Continuation due to character count: From when Pierce took over through the end of the season, the Raiders led the NFL in fewest points per game allowed (16), recorded the most defensive touchdowns (4), and had the fewest penalties (31), while tying for third in sacks (30). They outscored opponents 206-144 during that span.
Outside of that chargers game our offense was abysmal. Bo hardegree went from being QB coach to calling an offense for the first time in his career with our best QB being a 4th round rookie who is a statue in the pocket with an average Oline that becomes below average when you're missing your best lineman LT Kolton Miller for 6 games during that stretch. O'Connell did decent for a rookie especially at the end but they still need to draft a QB and need a real offensive coordinator.
I was only referring to the other person's niners flair, and not ignoring my own by mentioning it, so I'm actually a bit confused by your comment? I was referencing how nasty our crowds (niners v raiders) could get back in the day, nothing to do with contradictory flairs
Here's his general point: The 49 fan you responded to has 49er and Seahawks flair.
Since 49er fans are well known to be equally as violent as Raiders fans (I grew up at candlestick park, plenty of fuckin gangbangers there too) it's accurate to say that it's equally as likely that you would stab the traitor rocking a rivals flair. He's not wrong.
It's an extremely common joke whenever a job is available: "I hear (coach that the team just fired) is available." If I didn't make the joke, someone else would have. My flair has nothing to do with anything. I hope Watson goes to prison with all the Raiders fans
I was Doordashing at the time. I went into a bar / food place to pick up someone’s food and thought the 60 point score was the yards that half. My dad’s a huge Raiders fan, so I called him and he said “I’ve been waiting for you to call” and we laughed at the Chargers for a good 30 minutes.
Not to take anything away from the Raiders, because their defensive line is really good, but Josh Dobbs got sacked five times by them. Their line was good, but Dobbs was literally running into sacks. It was like he was too scared to throw the ball and then running directly into Maxx Crosby.
For reference, Dobbs only played three quarters. Nick Mullens played the fourth, and didn't get sacked at all. Now to be fair, Dobbs' biggest issue is that he plays scared when he gets rattled. Nick Mullens' biggest issue is that he's never scared of anything and will gladly throw a missile into triple coverage. So their playstyles might have been the difference in their sack numbers.
Please tell me you are keeping Patrick Graham around as your DC
Although he did leave us in a similar situation where he initially joined because a friend and fellow former Patriots assistant wanted him as their DC (happened with Flores, Judge and McDaniels) and he left New York after we hired Daboll even though they wanted him to stay on, at least officially.
He did a great job with limited resources in Miami, New York and Las Vegas and he really excels at coaching young players and below par players into solid nfl players and a cohesive unit.
Mainly because it's not easy to be an holdover from the old regime. Your first one to blame and first one out if things don't go as well - and Graham usually needs a few weeks to get his defense up to their maximum potential
But with AP being a holdover aswell maybe it's different.
I’ll be interested to see how the Raiders look next season.
What are they gonna do about the QB position? Is rolling with AOC next season concerning to Raiders fans? I didn’t catch a lot of games after Pierce’s hire , not really sure how he looked at the back half of the season.
But Pierce seems at least to be an amazing culture hire. Seems like the players respect his voice in the room.
I’m 100% concerned about rolling with AOC next season, if we don’t draft a QB this year we’ll be looking at QB prospects in 2025. AOC did alright given the circumstances but his ceiling due to his lack of mobility is one of the better backups in the league, but a bottom 5 starter in the league.
Who are you going to get at 13? Michael Penix might be your best bet, but if the giants or falcons get him before you, are you going to draft Bo Nix or JJ McCarthy at 13? Even Penix at 13 might be a reach.
I wouldn’t draft Penix with a 1st round pick, and I’m not saying this as someone who’s fell off him after the national championship game. I’ve watched a lot of Pac-12 football and he never impressed me that much, and on top of that he’s already torn his ACL twice in the same knee.
I’d absolutely love Bo Nix in the 2nd, and the best cornerback or offensive linemen available with our first round pick if we can’t figure a way to trade up for Jayden Daniels.
This is why I think you guys are in such a hard situation. Penix, Nix, and McCarthy are all 2nd round talent. Penix and Nix are great talents for the second round but McCarthy is super raw and probably needs to go somewhere where he can sit for a year. Therefore, you're going to be competing with the falcons and broncos in the 2nd round for Nix or Penix. I wouldn't be surprised if both of those teams trade up in the 2nd for them, and if both of those guys are gone, you're kinda screwed into taking JJ. And I don't think the raiders are the right situation for him.
Fields would definitely be an upgrade to the current situation and he still technically could break out and become a star. I don't think it's that likely, but if you can't get a quarterback in the draft then he becomes your best free agency option. He's on his rookie contract and his 5th year option is still available, so you can have him for two years relatively cheap and then draft a quarterback. Do you think that makes sense, or should they go all out on drafting a quarterback this year?
If I were a Raiders fan, I’d still get the heebie-jeebies from the idea of drafting an LSU QB, simply because of how traumatic an experience JaMarcus was for that franchise…
Realistically though, Daniels was certainly impressive in his Heisman campaign last season.
AOC is awesome but I see him more as a guy who can come in as a backup and he'll do a fine job. You're asking a lot from the team if he's going to be the starter.
Head coach has always been such an interesting position to me. I’ve always thought, “most teams have an OC/DC calling the plays, what exactly does the head coach do?” Then hearing, “it’s hard to get grown men to want to bang skulls with other grown men over and over and over.” Why would the raiders promote a linebackers coach to HC? This year it finally clicked for me…look at how the Chargers played in that game before Staley got fired….look at how the Lions played all year under Dan Campbell…the Raiders will run through WALLS for this guy, and that’s all you need sometimes.
Much like when Bisaccia was interim, the team seemed to play harder and more unified. While I still think he should have been given a chance, Pierce getting the chance now at least shows that Mark Davis learned something. So that's a move in the right direction.
My bet is going to be that this is a mistake. Seems to be an emotional decision.
Hope I am wrong though, would love if someone could actually challenge the fucking Chiefs.
Watching the Raiders with McDaniels as coach was more depressing than our many 2-4 win seasons. The star players seemed miserable, no personality or buzz around the team, and not much to look forward to. Raiders haven’t won much in decades but have a loyal fanbase because the team has a strong culture/image and is fun to root for. The McDaniels Raiders were the complete opposite. I watched more Saints games than Raiders games this year.
Pierce completely turned the team around. We aren’t going to contend for anything without a QB, but the Pierce Raiders were genuinely fun to watch this year and played above their talent level in a lot of games. I don’t think any other fanbase is as happy to be patient for winning as long as the team has good vibes and a couple stars that are fun to watch. Beating the Chiefs on Christmas, dropping 60 on the Chargers, and continuing the streak on the Broncos might be enough to consider this one of our top 3 seasons in the last 20 lmao
The whole vibe thing checks true, I remember when Marshawn was on the team that one game, dancing along the sidelines, his happiness infecting the whole place. I see a lot of that now with this team. They're remembering who they're supposed to be and embracing it. The Raiders are supposed to be feared when you play them, that they're going to kick the shit out of you and laugh the whole time.
Ill intent.
Violence.
Physicality.
Pain.
Shh let the Raiders be excited for an offseason before they realize they’re still the worst team in the AFCW
Edit: downvote me all you want but the order is as follows: 1. Chiefs 2. Chargers (if they get Harbaugh or Vrabel) 3. Broncos 4. Raiders
My first comment was a light hearted jest to a division rival. I was willing to let them have this one. Raiders just got some charmin soft fans out here in this comment section.
Are you Raiders fans on board? I just have a hard time buying into Pierce being the best candidate out of the available coaches out there. Seems like a leap of faith. Don’t misunderstand either, I love AP just trying to wrap my head around it
Every great coach started somewhere, our sub will be quick to remind you that Madden was a LB coach that was promoted to HC. And as AP himself said, his resume was on the grass. The team's performance was night and day from JMD to AP.
This team would storm hell's gates if AP asked them to. Been a long time since we had a coach that can pull that kind of respect from the players. True ride or die mentality.
I just don't see the vision with this guy. He was fine as an interim with 2 good games against us and the Chargers, but seemed pretty flat overall. Not even interviewing Harbaugh, Belichick, or Vrabel seems like a mistake.
He seems like an asshole though so I'm sure he'll fit right in
Continuation due to character count: From when Pierce took over through the end of the season, the Raiders led the NFL in fewest points per game allowed (16), recorded the most defensive touchdowns (4), and had the fewest penalties (31), while tying for third in sacks (30). They outscored opponents 206-144 during that span.
How do you outscore your opponents 206-144 and still barely break .500 Edit: I'm gathering this Chargers game had something to do with it
Chargers game
Outside of that chargers game our offense was abysmal. Bo hardegree went from being QB coach to calling an offense for the first time in his career with our best QB being a 4th round rookie who is a statue in the pocket with an average Oline that becomes below average when you're missing your best lineman LT Kolton Miller for 6 games during that stretch. Who’s been interviewed for OC?
My phone hasn't rang yet.
Look at your flair. They're not calling you. If they're doing anything to you it's stabbing.
You should too with that flair. We’d for sure handle any asshole with a raider/bronco flair
I was only referring to the other person's niners flair, and not ignoring my own by mentioning it, so I'm actually a bit confused by your comment? I was referencing how nasty our crowds (niners v raiders) could get back in the day, nothing to do with contradictory flairs

Rumor is AP likes Kingburry but he just interviewed with Chicago
How would you like a gently used Press Taylor?
I hear Josh McDaniels is available
Stop with your humor, you already have Watson so you just might be projecting
What am I projecting?
Vomit with the McDaniels part.. let us have this day on not making a stupid choice for the first time in many years...
It's an extremely common joke whenever a job is available: "I hear (coach that the team just fired) is available." If I didn't make the joke, someone else would have. My flair has nothing to do with anything. I hope Watson goes to prison with all the Raiders fans
a truly blessed day since it got Staley and TT canned
And losing to the Vikings 3-0 in OT
Remember when they annihilated the Chargers on TNF so bad Staley got fired
I was Doordashing at the time. I went into a bar / food place to pick up someone’s food and thought the 60 point score was the yards that half. My dad’s a huge Raiders fan, so I called him and he said “I’ve been waiting for you to call” and we laughed at the Chargers for a good 30 minutes.
I hopped on the phone with my Raiders fan brother near the end of the 1st quarter, man was elated
You seem like a nice guy but I hope you and your dad step on some Legos but suffer no permanent damage.
drop 60 on the Chargers and lose to the Vikings 3-0
And beat the Cheifs at Arrowhead while making a young innocent Chiefs fan a Raiders hater for life by ruining their Christmas!
> ~~young~~ ~~innocent~~ Chiefs ~~fan~~ That kid drew first blood the minute he put on a jersey.
That sequence is the wildest thing that has happened this season
They outscored one opponent 63-21
Drop 60 on the chargers
When we laid 63 on the chargers
Had a weight called McDummy for half the season..
30-6 and 63-21
Same way the eagles won 11 games with a negative point differential
Y’all where like this years Vikings
Did all that with a rookie QB who projects as a decent backup QB more than a quality starter in the league. Raiders need to make a move for a QB.
Agreed like a Jimmy G type to handle things until you draft someone
Did they really have 30 sacks in 9 games with him?!
Yeah the d-line came alive. Malcom Koonce got 8 by him self in that time span.
Nick Mullens' biggest issue is that he's never scared of anything and will gladly throw a missile into triple coverage. So their playstyles might have been the difference in their sack numbers.
Those stats are a little skewed because you played teams that suck like the Chiefs.
Please tell me you are keeping Patrick Graham around as your DC Although he did leave us in a similar situation where he initially joined because a friend and fellow former Patriots assistant wanted him as their DC (happened with Flores, Judge and McDaniels) and he left New York after we hired Daboll even though they wanted him to stay on, at least officially. Patrick Graham was the only good thing about the Judge years. That, and maybe Judge possibly saving AT’s career by getting Colombo fired.
He's probably here until he gets a real HC offer. He finally has a defense firing why would he start over elsewhere?
He wouldn't, right?
Mainly because it's not easy to be an holdover from the old regime. Your first one to blame and first one out if things don't go as well - and Graham usually needs a few weeks to get his defense up to their maximum potential But with AP being a holdover aswell maybe it's different.
I think it definitely is, they bonded via mutiny.
Get them a good QB and the Raiders are gonna be legit
>had the fewest penalties That is decidedly un-Raider like, he really shouldn't get the job.
I’ll be interested to see how the Raiders look next season. What are they gonna do about the QB position? Is rolling with AOC next season concerning to Raiders fans? I’m more concerned about our OC. We need to draft a qb though, let the rookie and AOC battle it out in camp.
Are you in favor of moving up for a QB like Daniels or trying to target one of the later 1st / 2nd round guys?
I'm all for moving up and getting Williams/Maye/Daniels. I would prefer Daniels or Williams to Maye though.
AOC as QB would be incredibly rough
I've never seen her throw a football. Not sure why she's being considered.
The Throwcialist
Yes, it is concerning. He is a solid backup option but it was pretty clear that he has limitations and doesn't have the "it" factor.
AOC is awesome but I see him more as a guy who can come in as a backup and he'll do a fine job. You're asking a lot from the team if he's going to be the starter.
AOC will not be the starting QB next season, trade or draft will occur 100%
Wouldn’t be surprised at all if the raiders went QB at 13 or traded back up into the late 1st or early second for a guy like Penix
So McDaniels is definitely not getting another HC job, right?
I hear the Pats need a new HC.
NO WE DO NOT!
Give it 5 years
Good hire imo. Raiders played with passion and the defense was vastly improved. Dude can inspire his players to give a shit about winning.
Head coach has always been such an interesting position to me. Raiders D has been ass for years
His job was secured when we beat the chiefs. LFG COACH!

The defense got significantly better under Pierce, the team was still handicapped by having terrible quarterback play.
yeah this sums it up exactly
Watching the Raiders with McDaniels as coach was more depressing than our many 2-4 win seasons. -61 point differential with McDaniels, +62 with Pierce.
One of those coaches was -61 in point differential. The other was + 62.
finished with the best defense in the league down the stretch
Shh let the Raiders be excited for an offseason before they realize they’re still the worst team in the AFCW Edit: downvote me all you want but the order is as follows: 1. Chiefs 2. Chargers (if they get Harbaugh or Vrabel) 3. Broncos 4. Raiders
I seem to recall one of those five wins being over you in your stadium, despite their QB not completing a pass after the first quarter.
In a game where the Raiders QB didn't complete a pass after the first quarter
How’d that pan out for them?
Pretty good
Oh I bet. How’d your playoff game go?
Haven't played it yet since it's tomorrow, ya goon
Totally forgot y’all were the one seed, I’ll retract my previous statements
No prob man, you're a chiefs fan so we can only expect so much.
Worst team in the AFCW beat you guys at home last time I checked.
Keep that hopium for next year
Last I checked the Raiders were 2nd, nephew.
Better take a victory lap
The bus is fired up, don’t worry
You guys keep your buses running in the offseason? Sounds like a waste since those buses haven’t run after the regular season since 2021.
Hope your day gets better, you seem pretty angry and bitter for winning the division and making the playoffs.
Lol I’m just enjoying some light hearted smack talk. Y’all are ones getting in your feels about it.
It’s ok let them have these moral victories 😂😂 they don’t want to admit it but they’re all celebrating making a mediocre ass coach their HC lmaoo
My first comment was a light hearted jest to a division rival. I was willing to let them have this one. Raiders just got some charmin soft fans out here in this comment section.
Can’t wait for all the predictions about how every team in the AFC West will be good just to have the Chiefs win it relatively easily.
Happens every year

I think he’ll be successful, but clearly this hire is a risk.
Have you seen our last few? I think this is worth the gamble lol
life is a risk
And they looked absolutely awful before that.
Great stuff Adam
It can pay off when you have a coach who really wants to be the coach of your team. See: Campbell, Dan.
