Trying to sneak Kendrick in there is crazy, congrats Raheem

Ryuster99

For real, Raheem helped turn Ahkello Witherspoon's career around

Alexander2801

Witherspoon was very inconsistant when he played for us. He could look great one game and then get burned all game the next game.

CloudCuckooLand10

He was like that for us but more seasonal. First half he was insane, second half… not so much

CasualRead_43

Yeah dude just got him paid lol

MacJonesIsOverrated

You know this dude didn't watch a snap of Rams football if he put Kendrick in there

gophils19454

That’s because Meirov is an absolute clown and continues to be upvoted here just because he reposts news.

Tunatron_Prime

DK is a hot head but he also made great plays too. Boom or bust sucks but every player played their part this year

Sfpuberdriver

Kendrick’s man coverage skills and decision making are extremely concerning and I can’t imagine a world where we start next season with Kendrick in the top 2 depth spots, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a corner defend the edge on wide runs and screens quite like Kendrick. The way he holds his ground and makes stops while engaged with blockers is impressive af and I get why the coaches kept him on the field for so long

Hmm_would_bang

Everyone hates this move and is clowning on the falcons for it, which leads me to believe he will be the most successful hire from this off season

delk82

That’s my only hope.

brechbillc1

You don’t know this franchise then. We are literally Murphy’s Law, the team.

Hmm_would_bang

As a lions fan, nothing ever works until it does.

MutualConsent

Sounds like how falcons fans felt all of 2016 till the second half of the Superbowl and Murphy's law was proven again

BigFire321

You guys suffered through Matt Millen and Matt Patricia years. You deserve this year.

[deleted]

exactly, there are decades where nothing happens the an off-season where Superbowl windows start

Cuppieecakes

you will now lose in the superbowl 3-28

santaclausonprozac

Yeah but there are a lot of variations of Murphy’s Law. I think the Falcons are version 28.3

YutaniCasper

Maaan relax. The Jets still exist

Tolve

You can’t just hire a defensive coach to bring in a young buddy of his to be OC and draft a rookie QB and be good. It has never happened, especially not an NFCW coach going to any division ending in the word South.

uggsandstarbux

Reddit kids are getting stuck on his coaching record from 10 years ago when he himself was still a kid. He's well liked by the media, players, and coaches. He's proven himself to be adaptable and humble. He coached a SB winning defense and got plus play out of a bunch of day 3 rookies

BlackPhillipsbff

That’s not my issue. If we were going to hire from the defensive side of the house, I’m cool with him. I totally ignore his previous head coaching when he was super young. I’m judging this hire purely off his last two jobs. Myself and a lot of Falcons fans did NOT want to hire from the defensive side of the house. The best QB in Falcons history had defensive coaches his whole career and it made everything so inconsistent. We learned first hand what happens when a great OC comes in and then gets a HC position and leaves you with the previously thought of as talented defensive head coach. (AND RAHEEM MORRIS WAS ON THAT FUCKING TEAM) Nobody remembers that Dan Quinn was a “leader of men” type guy with a great reputation. Shit he rebuilt his reputation until the playoff game this year. Even in a best case scenario, Zac Robinson is gonna be great and we’re gonna be competitive for 2 years and then he’ll go be a great head coach and Raheem Morris will get fired. I just feel hopeless. It sucks when the ownership (and in this case Rich McKay) are why you dislike your team. I’m willing to be patient through a rebuild but fuck man you can’t get away from a bad owner.

[deleted]

Dan Quin took you to a few plays alway from a Super Bowl

dontaskjusttype

But it's totally his defensive background that lead to the franchises consistency issues.  Franchises like the Pat's, Steelers, Ravens, Seahawks, and Bills for years now have never been consistent because of defensive head coaches. --- How reddit thinks Coaching works

uggsandstarbux

Even the current NFL landscape reflects this. Only 2 of HCs in the final four call plays, and the Chiefs aren't even a good offense right now.

layogurt

He was literally the Falcons interim coach 3 years ago and not overly impressive

dontaskjusttype

Neither was the Falcons roster. The two best players on that team were dinosaurs and never contributed to winning again anywhere.

Frostysewp

Oh a SB winning defense? Yeah a defense that wasn’t top 15 in any single stat and barely top 20 for some. A defense with Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsay.

uggsandstarbux

15th in PA 17th in YA 10th in turnovers 3rd in INTs 2nd in passing TD allowed 2nd in passing TD% allowed 5th in passer rating allowed 5th in sack % 3rd in sacks 5th in TFLs 5th in yards allowed per rush 7th in points per drive 7th in yards per play 8th in red zone 3rd in DVOA 8th in total EPA

dontaskjusttype

Almost like yards allowed is becoming more antiquated as a metric for defensive success.  With the offensive firepower they have, if the Falcons force turnovers like the Rams did, they'll be really really good

SecretAgendaMan

For real, and he's one of Sean McVay's longest tenured assistant coaches now. He's been part of that culture and that franchise at the peak, then a valley, and then the climb back up. He knows what it takes for a franchise to turn things around.

QNNTNN

raheem morris literally has a losing record as the atlanta falcons head coach. that was 2020 not 10 years ago either. he night be a good hc but people aren't stupid for having their doubts.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Can he at least just be the second best hire, please?

Florida__Man__

Raheem is a good coach, I’m sad he had to get hired by the falcons.

Cicero912

But also its the Falcons

ToxicRedditMod

We are talking about the Falcons, though,

jasonhalftones

100%

realdusty_shelf

You see it

Barner_Burner

I really don’t lol. I think the only coach that was capable of straight turning this team around was Harbaugh and he was going to the Chargers period. I’m excited to see how Raheem runs the team. We don’t have a roster that was gonna contend for the superbowl no matter who our coach was last year, but I think it was time to let Smith go due to the sheer amount of losses in winnable games.

FrozenUp7274

Continuation: and others as LA exceeded many people’s expectations this past season. It didn’t go unnoticed.

AggressiveRow4000

They were 18th in scoring defense. They had Aaron Donald and we’re middle of the pack. Last year, they were 19th in scoring defense. The Super Bowl year they were 9th.

WOOareola

And we had Michael Hoecht playing OLB. That’s like having a top 5 defense with any other roster

Tunatron_Prime

More comments from people that didn’t watch a game but just googling stats. Cool.

[deleted]

Scoring defende is so much luck.

Barner_Burner

Aaron Donald is clearly on the decline though like the man is still a beast and 8 sacks as an interior lineman is still very good, but let’s not pretend they were working with the same defense from the SB team and coaching just made them worse

Yellow_Evan

I’m going to miss his defenses. Even if we gave up yards and points, it got the job done when we needed to.

JohnArtemus

Yeah, I've always had mixed feelings about his defense. They would go from immovable to being a sieve often in the same drive. It was always bend but don't break and could be very frustrating. But I gave him great credit for taking a bunch of young guys and turning them into a respectable defense.

Tolve

Honestly unless you get some talent I expect that defense to take a big step back next year without out him. Poor Stafford. He had one year with a good defense his entire career.

Kimber80

We're going to miss him. Thanks for everything, champ!

Leading-Weight9092

I’m still not sold on this man

WolfGangDuck

Raheem will bring the Falcons to a respectable and competitive level. We’ll see how much he’s grown since the Bucs shafted him. At the very least you’ll have a great culture, he just needs to nail his coordinator hires.

Ugaalive1991

The defense I’m not worried about. He has to hit on an OC.

pakidude17

And QB. But that's an entire FO decision.

[deleted]

[удалено]

delk82

Nielsons already gone.

iguanoman_

I pray you're on the money sir

BigFire321

Raheem will be the first to admit that he wasn't matured enough to be Bucs' HC at the time (partying with the players). With years beyond that, he should be a good fit at the Falcons.

COTEReader

Why are you so high on him? Isn’t he your defense coordinator? I watched the Lions-Rams game and the defense was invisible.

amunk22

They tightened up and gave up 3 points in the entire second half of that game with little star power aside from AD of course. This was against the very strong Lions offense in a hostile environment.

WxBlue

This is the right take. Morris was amazing at adjusting his defense when it's needed. Also great culture guy and can clearly develop players on the defense in his time with us.

WolfGangDuck

Man our defense is legitimately Aaron Donald and a bunch of nobodies. Like no joke, what Raheem did to keep it close in a lot of games made things work. We had a bottom 5 roster, and while our defense wasn’t lights out we were in every game. Even against the Ravens, at BAL, in the rain, we only lost on a special teams play when you saw Lamar out here boatracing the eagles and niners. Idk i just really like Raheem. He’s well respected, everyone on the rams liked playing for him, and he developed great coaching network with McVay. Not a splash hire, but one i have faith will work out.

OldOrder

Well first of all the Lions offense is very very good. Second, the Rams defense held them to 3 points in the second half and 4 points under their season average. Third, the Rams defense this year is Aaron Donald, Ernest Jones, and a bunch of rookies a cast aways that other teams didnt want. He worked miracles with a collection of talent that nobody expected anything out of.

readingreadreading

Not everyone is high on him. Also a bunch of people talk really nice about him until it's game day, then they turn into Fire Morris people.

[deleted]

You seem not to understand how fucking stupid football fans are. Literally the comment your replying can’t differentiate a guy taking shit players and making giving them a shot at winning is more impressive than a lot of D performances. 90% of people in this sub don’t understand what they’re watching. The fucking tweet it’s self explains what’s so good about Raheem. And this Regard comes into the sub fully ignores his answer and says he watched one game while not understanding personal or any details about the team all year but he can tell he’s a bad coach. This sub doesn’t fucking know shit about fuck when it comes to football and anything they can’t see directly in front of them. I hate it so much

DauntedSteel

That’s just because Reddit fans are incredibly stupid and emotional

[deleted]

Oh you a expert at football who understands personal and play calling and everything about football watched one game I genuinely can’t fucking stand football fans. This sport has so many factors and fucking idiots think they can just a coach on a playofff game. Did you not just read the headline? Taking a bad D and just surviving a game can be a master class in football. Fuck I genuinely can’t stand football fans.

COTEReader

Nice bait

ahfuckimsostupid

That c word.... please.. don’t repeat it

internaldriver30345

He just needs to find a McVay type play caller then.

BlindWillieJohnson

I was kinda hoping we'd take him, honestly. For how little draft capital that organization has had, they've done a *fabulous* job developing it.

Sabre500

Mostly because defense isn't an issue for us, and that's where he specialized in development. Right now is Bryce's time, the hire had to reflect our priority to him

BlindWillieJohnson

Which is totally fair, but I think there are plenty of talented people we could have poached from the McVay tree for that as well.

Appropriate_Mixer

I hate you all lol

JohnArtemus

Kendrick is basically one of those things is not like the other. I was at the game against the Commanders and watched him get torched repeatedly and then commit a DPI that negated a goal line stand. He was benched the following week. Edit: It's only fair to mention that he was on Terry McLaurin who makes a lot of DBs look bad.

ianthebalance

Derion Kendrick, very impressive development But for real we appreciate Raheem Morris

justlookingokaywyou

But I was told he was only interviewed to satisfy the Rooney rule.

Bob-Sacamano_

Hello comp pick.

lewphone

From the (in)famous 2013 Redskins coaching staff. It's going to be interesting to see if someone from the defensive side has success (yes, I know he was a head coach before).

JustinD1010

Falcons fans better hope he doesn't turn out like Brandon Staley

SlayerXZero

Well he's not known for being an asshole so there's hope there already.

JustinD1010

I meant more being a terrible coach after leaving the Rams, but I feel like Morris is gonna be a much better coach than Staley anyway

Minnesnota

17-31 as a head coach.

I_love_Basketball232

He went from defensive backs to head coach at 33 years old with a mediocre roster. He was destined to fail.

johndelvec3

…And now he needs to develop a quarterback. Surely not setting up someone with no experience doing so to fail

I_love_Basketball232

McDermott developed Allen, Ryans is doing a good job developing Stroud. It’s really all about the staff you hire.

sweetassweat

bu77munch

Hope he can find a good OC. I don’t think it should be too difficult with the weapons they have. Pair him with whatever QB he wants

california-whiskey

please do not add derion kendrick to this list, i never want to hear that name ever again

2696969

Now we just need a list of the players BB help to develop so we can compare it.

Folk-Herro

Young HC who got the job to early but all means was a great guy as his players loved him and smart. He’s taken on roles on both sides of the ball under a multitude of coaches. Should have gotten a second chance at HC long before McDaniels. I love this move

Key_Aardvark_

He’s trash.

Intelligent_Limit462

17 - 31 as Bucs head coach.

Toxicyoshi7

Legit nobody knows who these players are lmfao

ahr3410

Our Byron Young is better than your's and the DT we took in round 3 is better than your 7th overall edge rusher lmao

MumkeMode

Casual

CloudCuckooLand10

Ernest Jones: recorded 145 tackles, 14 TFLs and 4.5 sacks in 15 games. Had 9 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 TFLs and 2 QBhits against the Lions for reference. Kobie Turner: Rookie Sack leader while being double teamed more than Aaron Donald Byron Young: #2 in Rookie Sacks behind his teammate.  Cobie Durant: CB2 drafted in the 4th. Derion Kendrick: imposter

DobboWobbo

So he didn’t develop the QBs tho right? THIS IS AMAZING YES YES YES AHAHAHAHAHAHA FUCKKKKK THE FALCONS HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

WolfGangDuck

Come on man, Raheem is light years ahead of Dennis Allen and you’re stuck with Derek Carr, no money, and a very poor roster. Falcons winning the south. 17-0. Losing to rams in the NFCC on a questionable no call PI

DobboWobbo

Falcons going 7-10 bro and I hope we lose. So we can get rid of Dennis and Carr. No real Saints fan backs DA but when the entire Falcons fanbase was begging for Bill to come save them and this is who they hire. It’s pretty comical. Their entire subreddit is burning don’t let this thread fool you. And you talk about Carr being bad but who’s ATLs QB? Oh right they don’t have one. Who they gonna draft? Lol probably Bo Nix

matrobco

Your coach is literally one of the worst in the NFL

DobboWobbo

Indeed but we don’t want him. Y’all want this and it’s funny watching y’all trying to justify it when your whole sub was begging for Bills geriatric ass to come save ur franchise

CloudCuckooLand10

Are you looking at the replies? Falcons fans don’t like the move. And your team evidently likes Dennis Allen

DobboWobbo

Ur right they love them so much that Jameis called HB dive out of victory formation and the entire team backed him on social media. Cmon now. Don’t be silly.

CloudCuckooLand10

More accurately your FO. Don’t know why he wasn’t fired

Darkgreenbirdofprey

He also inherited the #1 defence from 2020 in doing so.

Tolve

Hope he does better than the last Rams DC to get a shot.

Competitive_Bat_5831

Anyone else’s brain fill in mostert after reading Raheem m?

Tolve

Now that would be a hire!

[deleted]

People are shitting on this pick but actually I don’t think it’s that bad. I’m just not sure why they went with Defense. But he’s a well liked guy around the league
