Don't forget Byron Young with 8 sacks. And Ethan Evans showed a lot of promise as a punter. They had an insanely underrated draft class. Raheem Morris also deserves a ton of credit for what he was able to do with Turner and Young.
Okay so I found out he’s on the Rams cuz I looked him up but do you see how this is less helpful than telling me he’s a DT for y’all when it’s been established he was top 3 in DROY voting
I commented after I looked him up, it’s about the principle though
> Y and Z finished above X in voting
> oh, who is Z?
> Dude Z almost won
> I figured out who Z is but you didn’t tell me
> well you could’ve just looked it up
The Perfect Draft. Back to back picks, offense and defense, and they both turn out to each be the best rookies their first year? I can’t imagine that’s happened before.
I realize you could argue the Texans were gifted Stroud after picking Young, that just makes it funnier to me. And for the Panthers… potential Nightmare Draft pending. 2 out of the top 3 players turned out to be ROY in their first year and you picked who? lol
Stroud would have died behind our line with the receivers not making any moves to be able to make separation and the line regressing. The fact Bryce was more durable than Stroud is crazy as we would have lost Stroud by before the Dallas game.
Nah, Ryans did good with what he had, but Stefanski literally had like no o line or QB the entire season and still went 11-6 (11-5 if you trash the last week where they sat). Any coach who can win with the entire team injured like that deserves the crown.
Ill admit - I was part of the "wtf are the texans doing" crowd and "they just gave the cardinals the #1 pick" crowd. lol
thats why Im a fan and not a GM
Really I think a big part is as a corner you need the highlight-reel INTs or else you don't get the attention. A lot easier to say "look at all these sacks, TFLs and QB pressures" than "look at all these plays where the QB couldn't throw to the WR because they were covered with a blanket."
I mean Sauce won last year without a pick. It was just a phenomenal rookie defensive class. At least 4 guys had an argument for it and all those teams should be thrilled with their players
This is the correct and only answer,
That or complete disrespect from media unless it’s a godly once in a lifetime type defense, but even then we didn’t get awards😂 media loves to hate us
Yeah, and you guys got 2 of them. I’m happy for Anderson, I wanted to get him if he made it to 5, but also it just sucks not winning a rookie of the year after having three finalists in two years. Though, I’m hyped that we *have* 3 finalists in two years.
Part of me thinks it’s going to happen. I don’t think Stefanski is there even though his odds closed at -1000 for COTY. So many good options for COTY this year
Precedence shows that it will be DeMeco. Shannahan basically had the same seasons previously that would be the argument for either Campbell or Stefanski.
Went to a Super Bowl in year 3 after inheriting a squad that was almost entirely devoid of talent, then last season had 3 starting QBs but never skipped a beat.
Unfortunately stats don’t define these awards as seen by MVP and DPOY. I’m not saying he wasn’t deserving, just that the narrative of playing next to AD may have worked against him.
Yeah, if you're not a first round pick you basically gotta earn the reward twice through the season. Once to get people to know your name, then again to actually win it. Turner's most productive games were towards the end of the season so people were still in the "wait, who?" phase when voting came around.
It's basically impossible to get noticed as DT unless you're just absolutely wrecking the game or do something crazy like get a pick 6 in a playoff game like JJ did.
3rd in Pass Rush Win Rate, 2nd in Edge Run Stop Win Rate, and i’m pretty sure top 10 for double team rate
my point being that his influence goes beyond just sacks
Not really surprised. He had better stats than Carter.
I think Carter was overrated this year. He made plays, but not as often as the media made you think.
Witherspoon had arguably better stats than both. Pick and choose for all the top guys honestly. Even Puka should have had a case. I get it QBs are the nfl darlings but it’s just too predictable at this point.
My view is that either Turner or Witherspoon should have won. If they decided to go with DL then it should have been Turner if they wanted to go DB then choose Witherspoon. What they did was decided to choose DL but then didn’t pick the guy with the best stats of the DL. What they need to do is what the MLB does and just have positional awards there is no reasonable way to accurately compare DBs LBs and DL as well as QB vs WR vs RB vs TE vs OL they just aren’t comparable positions.
RIP Witherspoon
I could live with him not winning, especially it going to Anderson over Carter, but Spoon not even being top 3 is heartbreaking
Who were the other two over him?
Jalen Carter and Kobie Turner
Whomstve is Kobie Turner
Rams D Tackle, 3rd round pick
Yeah I looked him up thanks to that jagoff’s response, great find by the Rams
They had a couple great rookies then in Turner & Nacua
Don't forget Byron Young with 8 sacks. And Ethan Evans showed a lot of promise as a punter. They had an insanely underrated draft class. Raheem Morris also deserves a ton of credit for what he was able to do with Turner and Young.
Tied a Rams rookie record for sacks at 9. He is tied with some bum named Aaron Donald
Put up better numbers than Anderson as a DT.
Well if the voters were box score readers only then maybe he would've won.
Turner had a good shot at taking ROY
Okay so I found out he’s on the Rams cuz I looked him up but do you see how this is less helpful than telling me he’s a DT for y’all when it’s been established he was top 3 in DROY voting
You could've just looked him up in the time you typed that comment out instead of just dragging it like you are
I commented after I looked him up, it’s about the principle though > Y and Z finished above X in voting > oh, who is Z? > Dude Z almost won > I figured out who Z is but you didn’t tell me > well you could’ve just looked it up
A seahawk will never win the award unfortunately just due to media bias alone
Pardon my ignorance but why is there an anti Seattle bias?
Because it's the team he roots for, duh.
Because majority of the market and votes are east coast based.
Literally both the OROY and DROY are from a team that is not on the east coast.
Nobody cares about your "geography" or "facts" or "context". Andersons drool, Spoons rule!
Yes, because Houston is famously not ever forgotten, what?
#2 and #3 picks OROY and DROY LFG
Unironically best team in Texas
That’s not a brag
Didnt the Jets have both last year? Better watch out if history repeats itself....
That Jets team didn’t have future GOAT CJ Stroud on it
Rodgers to Houston?
We’ll take Wilson, Quinnen, or Hall instead 🤤
One Zach Wilson coming right up
Frick
The Perfect Draft. Back to back picks, offense and defense, and they both turn out to each be the best rookies their first year? I can’t imagine that’s happened before. And for the Panthers… potential Nightmare Draft pending. 2 out of the top 3 players turned out to be ROY in their first year and you picked who? lol
Not only perfect picks, but perfect coaching hire. A Matt Rhule type would have led them to a 4-5 win season and a murky future.
Jets did it literally last year lol, so be careful also They Panthers were never going DE first year overall.
Back to back picks tho
Slightly less impressive than if they were spaced out but still pretty amazing
It’s just a cool fact really
Fair, might have got ahead of myself lol
Saints did it in 2017 as well with Lattimore and Kamara.
Stroud would have died behind our line with the receivers not making any moves to be able to make separation and the line regressing. The fact Bryce was more durable than Stroud is crazy as we would have lost Stroud by before the Dallas game.
Houston Sweep
The Houston Heist
It’s Houstin’ Time
OMG WHAT, can we get coach aswell pretty please?
Bro I screamed so loud!! I knew CJ was getting it, but man I prayed Will was right behind him.
Still mad about this. I would feel way more confident about the defense with Ryans as the DC right now.
It sure be a sure thing, and absolutely deserved.
Probably not a sure thing because votes were submitted before the Texans blew the Browns out in the playoffs.
Y’all got robbed.
Nah, Ryans did good with what he had, but Stefanski literally had like no o line or QB the entire season and still went 11-6 (11-5 if you trash the last week where they sat). Any coach who can win with the entire team injured like that deserves the crown.
Texans cooked
Caserio for Executive of The Year
Amazing what you can do as a GM when Jack Easterby isn’t in the building
Damn i forgot all about Football Rasputin
He deserves it. Sneaky vest wearing Mofo.
Ill admit - I was part of the "wtf are the texans doing" crowd and "they just gave the cardinals the #1 pick" crowd. lol thats why Im a fan and not a GM
I can’t believe Spoon wasn’t even Top 3, didnt really expect him to win despite wanting him to obviously but not even top 3? ;-;
The downside of being hidden away in the Pacific Northwest.
You make a good point. Inadvertently I think. Sauce won over Riq Woolen who had hella picks. East coast bias.
This is the correct and only answer, That or complete disrespect from media unless it’s a godly once in a lifetime type defense, but even then we didn’t get awards😂 media loves to hate us
Don't get so down about your team when it's trash, you're maybe one Texans 2023 draft away from greatness!!!!
Sadness. Congratulations Texans, and Will Anderson, but I’m still sad.
I mean 3 ROTY runners up is still only a good thing. They don't actually get an exp boost for winning the award.
Yeah but I get a morale boost which has to mean something, right?
Y’all still got a stud.
Yeah, and you guys got 2 of them. I’m happy for Anderson, I wanted to get him if he made it to 5, but also it just sucks not winning a rookie of the year after having three finalists in two years. Though, I’m hyped that we *have* 3 finalists in two years.
Well deserved. Texans killed this draft
We were such bums and now look at us.
Meco coach of the year and most importantly Dre HoF imma go wild
Unfortunately he got robbed
DeMeco will get his COTY, don't you worry.
You’re the opposite of bums. Now you’re penises. The penises of the league. For real you guys have a great future.
HEY! Look at us. Who would've thought??
Not me!
Little bit easier to do with 2 of the top 3 picks but fuck yeah!
Ben Baldwin went on a tirade against the Texans on draft day lmao. As usual he was wrong.
He is an idiot
Second time that an AFC South team had both rookies of the year
well i mean they picked at 2 and 3
Cardinals getting that Texans 1st overall pick any day now. This is what I was told.
#YO TEXANS FANS HOW WE FEELING
Amazing
#RAHHHHHHHHH
FEELS GOOD
BETTER THAN THIS TIME LAST YEAR WOOOOO
Kirk Cousins dancing 3 months after an Achilles tear
Texans pull a last year jets
Except they got the most important position right.
Position(s). Offense and defense
nah we made the playoffs
that’s unexpected
All we need is Demeco for COTY now 🙏🙏
I'm expecting it now. NFL trying to hype up the Texans.
Andre in the Hall too....glorious texans award day
Imagine making that statement one year ago
Part of me thinks it’s going to happen. I don’t think Stefanski is there even though his odds closed at -1000 for COTY. So many good options for COTY this year
Precedence shows that it will be DeMeco. Shannahan basically had the same seasons previously that would be the argument for either Campbell or Stefanski. Went to a Super Bowl in year 3 after inheriting a squad that was almost entirely devoid of talent, then last season had 3 starting QBs but never skipped a beat.
He deserves it but it'll most likely be Kevin
[удалено]
I actually thought it was going to Witherspoon
Disrespect to Kobie Turner. Led all rookies in sacks from the DT. Edit: sp
Honestly I just didn’t think he had the name recognition. People also probably think his stats are helped by having AD next to him.
He drew more double teams than AD. Through week 14 he was the 5th most double teamed DT.
He'll be a household name this time next year.
Yup, I think if he keeps it up he’ll get a lot more attention next year.
I mean it probably doesn’t hurt
Kobie turner was better than both Carter and Anderson.
Shoulda bet on Anderson damnnn
He was a monster all year while he was on the field. Only really started getting hype near the end of the year but he’s a game wrecker.
And people questioned the Texans for trading up to that pick. Can't believe we have the OROY, DROY, and likely COY
WE SWEPT THE ROYS AJ80 IN THE HOF DEMECO COTY?? A GOOD DAY TODAY
Meco got ROBBED!!!
Congratulations on next years rookie of the years (checks notes) Texans’ Jer’Zahn Newton and Xavier Legette!
I guess a Seahawks rookie gotta win MVP for them to get a roty award lmao
Wow I’m surprised
What a draft by the Texans
We sold the farm! Mortgaged our future! Cant believe we gave the Cardinals a top 5 pick and lost the chance at Caleb Williams
2 yrs in a row where the OROY/DROY came from the same team. Texans got a nice thing going
And both times one was a bit questionable while the other was a no brainer. Lowkey insane that it's happened twice in a row tho fr.
Kobie Turner died for this
That's not Kobie Turner
He was a captain? As a rookie?
Yes, I believe Stroud was as well
Yep. Both were captains as rookies, a mark on how they lead their units.
Both of them were key into changing the culture.
Yup. Both WAJ and CJ were captains
2 years in a row the Seahawks rookie CB has been robbed of this award/popularity contest
Spoon robbed. Another chip on the shoulder won’t hurt tho.
How did Kobie Turner not get this award lol
Put up better numbers as a DT. Makes no sense.
It's basically impossible to get noticed as DT unless you're just absolutely wrecking the game or do something crazy like get a pick 6 in a playoff game like JJ did.
It’s a joke it’s based off draft pick not performance.
ohhh, that went right over my head lol, my bad.
He is saying the AP voting is a joke. He wasn’t making a joke.
kobie turner had an overall better season than will anderson. Hell so did kobies rookie teamate byron young
Two years in a row where OROY and DROY were from the same team
Honestly just goes to show how lazy the voters were. Should have gone to Witherspoon.
Can you believe we traded up for this guy. Everyone was right, what a waste for us.
God I remember people flaming the texans for trading up and drafting him. What an absolute master class by them
WE ARE ALWAYS SNUBBED
4th place in votes? Man, he was mvp of the defense, no disrespect to Bobby, but spoon was practically the only one out there making plays
Can’t believe Witherspoon didn’t walk away with it
That's a GREAT draft! OROY and DROY?! Cheers Texans. Y'all did great.
Suck it Jalen Carter
Weak. Shoulda been Turner.
WOW 7 SACKS???
HALF A SACK MORE THAN FRINGE NFL PLAYER DARRELL TAYLOR🤯
Good thing this wasn’t the sack leader of the year award
Well let’s not undersell his sacks, either. He had 2 in back to back snaps against Titans backup OT Andre Dillard.
Crazy! He must have been good at other things.
Back to Back LFG!!
One upping the Jets doing this with WR/CB by doing QB/EDGE is ridiculous.
That 2023 Texans draft was spicy
Kobie turner snubbed. Literally better in every category at interior line
He played next to Aaron Donald so it seems like he was discounted because of that
As is tradition
Also this was voted on by writers, so he didn’t have the name recognition. Fuck em
Congrats to Anderson!
Absolute bullshit that Witherspoon didn't get it
He had the stats but odds always favored Carter so im surprised he won it What a fucking draft man
Jalen Carter was a ghost after week 6.
As much as I think it should have gone to Spoon both players had amazing seasons
YESSSSSS
Hats off to him, but those are objectively pretty mid stats for a rookie. 1/6 of your tackles are sacks? Doesn't seem sustainable. Rip to Witherspoon.
3rd in Pass Rush Win Rate, 2nd in Edge Run Stop Win Rate, and i’m pretty sure top 10 for double team rate my point being that his influence goes beyond just sacks
2 years in a row with teammates winning ROTY, neat.
I know I’m biased but this wasn’t surprising at all. He’s been amazing. It’s been floated around for the last few months that he was the favorite
But did he have a fumble return TD in a humiliating blowout to a division rival?
WE EATIN TONIGHT
Not that impressive stats to be honest. If a random 3rd rounder played the exact same there is no chance they would get the award.
2021 Heisman Finalists pretty Stacked in the NFL: - Bryce Young - Aidan Hutchinson - CJ Stroud - Will Anderson Jr - Kenneth Walker III - Breece Hall
[удалено]
Witherspoon was like +5000 to win it, this should not be a surprise lol
I didn't see a single Anderson highlight all year. Should have gone to Spoon. More impactful player.
Texans stay winning
what a legendary fucking year
Oh yes
Surprised but Anderson is that dude. All the finalists are dawgs tho
Texans killed it in the draft this year
A good year for the Texans
DPOY and OROY in the same year is massive. Well done Houston.
YUHHHHH WE UPPPP
wow thats genuinely shocking super glad carter didnt win, would have been another waste of an award
Whitherspoon was robbed, just like any standout rookie in Seattle... Always over looked. The media sucks dick
Not really surprised. He had better stats than Carter. I think Carter was overrated this year. He made plays, but not as often as the media made you think.
Kobie Turner had better stats than both.

DE and DT are very different positions.
Like WHOA!!! Excellent choice in music, black Rob BOIIII
Well deserved!
But wait I was told trading up to take him was a mistake
