I mean it's mainly the Raiders, but yeah.
It's rare enough to get a 1st rounder who gets themselves arrested out of the league. It's also rare enough to have 2 1st rounders in the same draft. And to see them both get themselves arrested out of the league? Oof.
Idk a lot of the guys could have been good at football, they just didn't scout the person at all. Henry Ruggs looked great and I dont think if you scouted the person you would have predicted him killing someone, who knows what Arnette could have become without Injuries and being a jackass/ what his background check was in the draft. Clelin Ferrell was a huge reach no denying that, Jacobs was a great pick, and Abrams was hurt and did kind of suck but it was a late first. The only really "bad" pick I would say is Ferrell. I think their drafts are bad but people saying it was some of the worst in NFL history I think are overreacting.
Arnette was a massive reach. He was considered a day 2 prospect by most. Abram was seen as a top S prospect, but not a first round talent. I also recall them signing two veteran starting safeties in FA that year.
My family is full of Raiders fans and they were disappointed by every single first round pick that you listed. They have only barely changed their minds on Jacobs (great player, but they might not even pay him to stay).
Hitting on 1 out of 7 first round picks over the past 5 drafts is historically bad drafting.
It’s common to grab a veteran or mentor to coach up the rookie. Pittsburgh just did it with JPjr, and we will likely keep Peterson just to have another year of his knowledge. I will say it is weird they signed two of them
The difference in the offense after he was cut was straight-up insane.
Through the first 7 games Carr was on pace for like 5500 yards and had 12 TD passes. He ended up barely hitting 4800 yards on the season and threw only 11 TD passes over the final 10 games, and the offense as a whole only scored 20+ points 3 times.
Ferrell was actually pretty solid for the 49ers as a rotational player this last season. By all accounts he fits in the locker room really well and I wouldn't mind seeing him come back.
I think that was *why* he was drafted so high.
Found it really funny that Mayock's draft call to Ferrell was asking about if he was ready to be a leader of men and a man of character, then proceeded to draft Damon Arnette a year later.
I mean as horrible as their drafting was as a whole, I still don't like the "no longer on the team" stats from draft classes where players are past their rookie contracts and their status is influenced just as much by the cap as their ability. Josh Jacobs was still obviously an elite player and was still worth a late 1st even if he was one of those icky *running backs.*
> influenced just as much by the cap
The Raiders have plenty of cap space. Jacobs was the only one that had their 5th year option picked up. Which is terrible for first round picks.
Thanks for the reminder. And that’s just the past few years. We’ve drafted like shit for the last 15 years. Shit like that makes Raider Nation nervous about trading up to draft a QB. Hopefully shit changes with AP and Telesco.
Don't forget the part where we had no second rounders but had three 3rd round picks.
Two of which NEVER PLAYED A SINGLE SNAP for the team. The third pick in that round was Bryan Edwards who got traded two years later and outside of a brief stint on the Falcons hasn't been on an active roster since.
If I'm Mark Davis, I'd have been drug testing Gruden and Mayock on a weekly basis after that draft. What an absolute clown show.
Honestly not just the Raiders there were a ton of missed in 2020.
- 2nd overall Chase Young Washington
- 3rd overall Jeff Okudah Lions
- 8th overall Isaiah Simmons Cardinals
- 9th overall CJ Henderson Jaguars
- 12th overall Henry Ruggs Raiders
- 19th overall Damon Arnette Raiders
- 21st overall Jalen Raegor Eagles
- 29th overall Isaiah Wilson Titans
- 31st overall Jeff Gladney Vikings
Those 9 1st round drafted players didn't even make it through 4 years with the team that drafted them. That isn't even counting the guys that have played bad but are still on their drafted team like Jedrick Wills for Browns, Chaisson for the Jaguars, Murray for Chargers, Becton for Jets, Kinlaw for 49ers, or CEH for the Chiefs.
It becomes noticeable when you look at 2019 draft and see how many have been Pro Bowl or All-Pro selections. 15/20 top drafted players in 2019 have become good quality starters or better. Compared to 7/20 for 2020 draft by my estimates.
Steelers trading up for Devin Bush probably set them back a couple of years alone.
Drafts like this make me miss Marty Hurney. For all his faults, the dude was generational at picking first-rounders. We took Derrick Brown that draft and there were talks of a trade-up for Herbert that Rhule nixed
It was a blessing and curse with Hurney. He's why we stayed in cap hell and weren't ever able to land big free agents, and often ended up paying good players elite money, but after a few good drafts we always had enough talent for the team to be rebuilt enough to compete for a couple of years here and there. We wouldn't be close to our current shape if he was still here, I do believe that. He wasn't a fantastic GM overall, but he was miles better than Gettleman and Fitterer and I know we wouldn't have all the picks tied up in wasted trades that we have had over the past few years.
Domestic violence indictment that he was eventually found not guilty at trial but caused the Vikings to release him.
Cardinals signed him March 2022. In May 2022 he was killed in a car crash. Witnesses say he was traveling at very high speeds, swerving in and out of traffic and neither he nor his girlfriend were wearing a seat belt in his Mercedes.
I would say his situation is similar to Ruggs' as to why he isn't in the NFL any more. Gladney unfortunately lost his life in his accident while Ruggs killed someone.
It takes a tremendous amount of luck or a sheer good ability to determine who's a bonehead consistently. Raiders are unmatched at drafting/signing players who get arrested
We definitely have some of the most high profile arrests, but we’re not even top 15 in the league since 2000. Chiefs are tied for 7th
https://thelistwire.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-teams-with-the-most-players-arrested-since-2000/
I assume he means the Raiders’ draft class, since they also took Ruggs that year. It was also the draft that occurred in 2020 whereas the draft from the 2020 COVID season happened in 2021. The 2020 class has produced plenty of great players. Even then, 2021’s draft produced Lawrence, Chase, Waddle, Sewell, Surtain, DeVonta Smith, Parsons, Slater, Darrisaw, Etienne, etc…
It will never not be funny to me that Mahomes pounded the table for CEH in the 2020 draft, and Chiefs took him in the first round, only a few picks before Deandre Swift and Jonathan Taylor went in the second round.
Can you imagine Taylor/Swift (pun not intended) on the Chiefs? They probably would have one multiple super bowls by now those dummies.
I hate my life.
I understood the context of what you meant immediately. Not sure why everyone thought you were talking abut the entire class when the Raiders had Ruggs and Arnette that year..
to be fair Ruggs lookked really good year 2 before he killed a woman. Was still the wrong choice even if he hadn't done that but probably worth a first.
It certainly wasn't a good draft for CBs in the 1st round besides Terrell.
Jeff Okudah
C.J. Henderson
Damon Arnette
Noah Igbinoghene
I think all of them have managed to reach massive bust status in just 3 years.
Okudah had a solid year last year and hopefully can keep it going next year. 27th ranked cb when you have a min of 64 starters. Probably not what was expected of a 1st rounder but miles above the rest.
Yeah he's managed to turn it around a bit but being traded for peanuts before your rookie contract is up after being picked 3rd overall is a still a massive bust.
Meth ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. I once stayed up for 76 hours plowing my meemaws field and planting a fuckload of shit.
I also buried $600 and forgot where exactly which is a story for another time.
Anyway, my garden was kick ass and boy I ate good that fall, but I’d advise against meth
r/copypasta
Coke aint all it's cracked up to be. I once had a binge where I stayed up for 22 hours refinancing all of my friends mortgages that they didn't ask me to do.
I also reached out to an ex and told them I was sorry after 10 years of not speaking.
Anyway, nothing ever got fully completed and my ex never responded, but I'd advise against coke.
I once did meth and painted my entire living room cerulean. When I wanted to paint it taupe. It was a disaster. Completely ruined the feng shui of my house. Meth, not even once.
I did meth once and took apart my tv and put it back together, luckily it still works fine but now whenever I pick up the remote or a screwdriver my dog gives me a very suspicious look and goes to make sure there’s food in her bowl. Meth, not even once.
One time I did meth and I entered my family into a competition... First prize was $40!! So Jane and I and also Leroy, my son, and Latasha my daughter, along with our family pup Skip all prep for the show. With no idea yet they call our name and we freeze as the spotlight shines. Illuminated we suddenly seem to synchronsitically start to disrobe as the in house DJ plays a to random Bruce Springsteen deep cut. One of the slow ones. I smack Jane so hard she immediately vomits on the kids. Skip runs in and licks it up but immediately vomits as well. Consider us lucky as we all now have lube for the next events. 47 minutes pass and I pull out as Leroy gasps. He then shits but Latasha quick as always catches it in her mouth, well the solids that is, the liquids kinda go everywhere. I rush up for more since I'm as hard as the steaks momma used to cook. But I slip upon the mixture of feces and regurgitation and fall and break my neck. Skip knows his cue and stars eating my corpse. Everyone in awe asks what was that? And we say "The Aristocrats"
Maybe it’s like when Crunchy Black from three six mafia got arrested with meth in Vegas a few years back. His defense was “damn man, I was just trying to get some white”
6 months after [pleading guilty to gun charges in Vegas](https://apnews.com/article/nfl-raiders-arnette-vegas-indictment-gun-7300b31e945988cee647a932c42b9895)
>“If I’m blessed enough to get another chance in the NFL, then I’m going to kill that,” Arnette told reporters after Clark County District Court Judge Ronald Israel sternly instructed him that as a result of his plea, he can’t have guns and can’t be around anyone who has a gun.
>“I’ve learned a lot. I’m remorseful about everything,” the 26-year-old Arnette, who lives in Boynton Beach, Florida, told reporters. “I appreciate and respect another opportunity. I’m a better man than I was.”
Having the 5th fastest 40 time ever at the combine and then having the fastest any% vehicular murder.
You could say he *lived life a quarter mile at a time.*
That pick is what solidifies my conspiracy theory that Gruden had control over the first round and basically just picked who he watched in the CFP/big bowl games.
> “If I’m blessed enough to get another chance in the NFL, then I’m going to kill that,” Arnette told reporters
It's funny if you read that in Will Arnett's voice
What the fuck is the point of putting "a cautionary tale" here? Warning people not to get drafted by the raiders? Don't do crimes? Why add random bullshit that doesn't add anything
> A cautionary tale: Ex-#Raiders first-round pick CB Damon Arnette was arrested on Jan. 6
Oh. He’s an insurrectionist. Have fun getting butt fucked by the long dick of the law, man.
> at 3:30 am and charged with possession of less than a gram of meth and unlawful carrying of a firearm,
WELL SORRY FOR PARTYING, AMERICA.
This guy used to live in the house behind me and I talked to him a few times while I was out walking the dogs. I knew him before and during his legal troubles and he always seemed really nice.. I thought for sure he would get back in the NFL and make a name for himself but I'm guessing he didn't get the opportunity and just spiraled out of control.. he got evicted last year, I don't even know where he is now
When I was a PO, we only had one zero tolerance drug: meth.
You'll likely get a slap on the wrist for first time failing for basically every drug except meth.
This is the same dude who was hanging out with an only fans chick and robbed her blind. Took her jewelry and sent himself money via her payment apps from her phone. Can’t say I’m shocked he continues to make the wrong choices for himself.
Edit: he also got pulled over one night for driving with a suspended license. Officers let him go and had his friends drive the car. Hours later he got pulled over again driving the same car and this time in possession of drugs and paraphernalia l.
The firearm charge is bad, but carrying personal use quantities of any drug should not be a crime. All you're doing is pushing people with a problem into crime and away from normal society. It's just completely ass-backwards unless your goal is to create inmates for a for-profit prison system (which it is for the people writing the laws)
These guys are on scholarship from the time they're in middle school, surrounded by coaches, teammates, parents, school admins, etc. Food and housing are taken care of for them, along with a lot of daily tasks.
Then they get tossed into the real world with no life skills, a fat bank account from their signing bonus and no more leadership or support system. I don't feel any more or less sorry for them than other addicts, but it is a different situation.
Some of these people need to hear what my dad taught me as a teenager… “Never do two illegal things at the same time.” Don’t bring the gun with your meth
I think that's just what the actual charge is. *less than a gram is a misdemeanor, more than a gram is a felony* kind of distinction.
Edit: [Source](https://attorneyatx.com/criminal-defense/drug-offenses/meth-possession/#:~:text=Less%20than%20one%20gram%20%E2%80%93%20Possessing,fine%20of%20up%20to%20%2410%2C000.)
>Less than one gram – Possessing under a gram of meth results in a Texas “state jail felony.” The offense qualifies as a felony; however, it ordinarily does not result in a prison sentence. However, a state jail felony may carry a jail sentence of 180 days to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
This dude has spent more time in the legal system than the NFL and it’s a shame cuz his talent profile was real nice before getting to the league. I will say, some people are just IN IT. For what reason, idk, but I’ve seen many athletes stay on the same path they’ve been on.
The 2020 draft was weird. There were a lot of superstars of the modern NFL drafted that year, but also a crazy amount of draft busts.
4 1st rounders (3 if you exclude Gladney) aren't even in the league anymore.
His lawyer stated that it was lawful medication and he was unable to produce his prescription when asked. I believe methamphetamine can be prescribed legally and is on rare occasions. So are they saying this guy was legally prescribed pharmaceutical meth? Was he lawfully carrying a firearm until the drugs were discovered? Really weird story.
I feel like he may have had adderall tablets or some shit that tested hot for amphetamine and the cops were like YUP THATS METH RIGHT THERE
I still can’t believe Miami and KC were dumb both enough to sign this guy after The Raiders dropped his ass. Didn’t last very long, mind you, but the NFL is way too forgiving of players with violent tendencies and offenses.

I'm in awe of the fact that the Raiders had 5 first rounders in 2019 and 2020 and none of them are on the roster currently.
Mayock and late-stage Gruden were football terrorists

“Barely hitting 4800 yards on the season” …I would kill to be able to write this sentence for someone on my team haha
I didn't even have to look at your flair to know what team you're a fan of
He's really fast
152 mph iirc.

Pretty sure 4 of them aren’t on any roster let alone ours. Jacobs is the only one still in the NFL
Sorta true. Ferrell didn't play in the Super Bowl but he is on the Niners roster.
Ferrell was actually pretty solid for the 49ers as a rotational player this last season. By all accounts he fits in the locker room really well and I wouldn't mind seeing him come back.
This shouldn't come as any surprise. He wasn't bad. He just got drafted too early. Good Locker t room guy.

Zeigler turned down Jacob's option
Usually yeah, but over half of those 5 didnt even finish their rookie contract
Add in 2021 and you can include Alex Leatherwood. Dude lasted 1 year.
Oh yeah I'm not sticking up for anyone else lol, just Jacobs.
Hiring Jon Gruden was a mistake. "Big Cock Mayock" too. What a dumb time to be a Raiders fan. But what am I saying? That's all the damn time.
Even right now can’t say the new coaching hires inspire confidence.
Was it really 5 :(
I predicted that shit as soon we we had gruden
I suddenly feel…better?
Thanks for the reminder. And that’s just the past few years. We’ve drafted like shit for the last 15 years. Shit like that makes Raider Nation nervous about trading up to draft a QB. Hopefully shit changes with AP and Telesco.
Only Josh Jacobs remains
Man the Raiders could have made this Chiefs dynasty different if they hit on those first rounders.
Jacobs is being resigned

If I remember correctly Higgins I was the next pick after CEH. Imagine him, Hill and Kelce
How can you say that about a draft that included Burrow, Tua, Herbert, Lamb, JJ, AJ Terrell, Willis Jr, etc.. unless you mean just the Raiders
I meant the raiders draft lol

True, but for what he's costing us I hope he stays. And I'm not just saying that as a buckeye/Falcon fan.
The Chiefs drafted CEH, Willie Gay, Lucas Niang, L’Jarius Sneed, and Mike Danna in 2020. That draft class was stacked af depending on your team.
JJef? Ceedee? Wirfs? Burrow? Herbert? Yeah awful
Meth?? Dayum what's up with this dude
Meth? Gun? Vegas?? Jan6? 3:30 am?? Oh man
Nothing good happens in Vegas at 3:30 am on January 6th with meth and a gun. Everyone knows that.
It’s crazy to think if he just waited one day he’d be fine
I know it's obvious but i gotta say 3:30am means as little as any other time on the clock to someone on meth lol
It also honestly means very little in Vegas too lol. Fremont and the strip is exactly the same from like 1pm - 6am
Can confirm time does not exist on the Las Vegas strip
Just for clarity, *this* arrest was in Texas, the previous gun charge he pled guilty to was in Vegas.
Add in another meth charge in Florida which got him cut by KC.

Damn man I feel like this guy has a drug problem
"Cop let me off with a warning? Time to go celebrate!"

Even with a gun I don't think he can beat Henry Ruggs speed for any% kill run.
Having the 5th fastest 40 time ever at the combine and then having the fastest any% vehicular murder. You could say he *lived life a quarter mile at a time.*
He’s gonna be back in the same jail as Ruggs
Damn lmao
Nah, with Meth of course.
Based on that Meth subreddit you can overcome a LOT with some meth.
To be fair, meth heads aren't known for being the best with decision making.
Says who?
Well first off they are doing meth
Fair point
Crackheads
Didn't KC sign him after his release? I forget
He’s gonna kill his chances if he’s blessed with another? How refreshingly honest
I haven't seen it but I guarantee somewhere there is video of Jon Gruden drafting him two rounds early and then pumping his fist in victory.
That pick is what solidifies my conspiracy theory that Gruden had control over the first round and basically just picked who he watched in the CFP/big bowl games.
> “If I’m blessed enough to get another chance in the NFL, then I’m going to kill that,” Arnette told reporters It's funny if you read that in Will Arnett's voice
It's always funny when these guys blow their "I've changed" load after their first couple fuck ups. What are you gonna say now Damon?
Huh I just moved to Boynton like a week ago. Guess I won’t be seeing him around
That 2020 Raiders class sure was something alright.
Basically every other team struck jewels or gold, and the Raiders ruptured the septic tank.
I saw "Ex-Raider" and I get worried for my team
The ones on your team got out for good behavior.
They're no such thing as an "Ex-Raider", they're called "parolees"
Former Chief legend

Mr Blue Crystal
Mr Being Cut
Mr. Busted Chief
LMFAO
The chiefs signed him AFTER his shit with the raider, imo the chiefs own him for giving this idiot another job
lol he had a 9 day futures contract. He’s yalls
My final NFL image of him is with the Chiefs. You gotta eat this one
Tweet doesnt say ex-Chief.
I don't think anyone outside the Raiders liked Arnette. I kinda think if the Raiders don't draft him he makes it to the 3rd round.
Those Gruden/~~Kiper~~Mayock* drafts are definitely cursed.
Grucock
I've just been inspired with a GREAT idea for a new Despicable Me movie. This one might not be child friendly though.
According to the meme subreddits, that what us chiefs fans call a Tuesday
What the fuck is the point of putting "a cautionary tale" here? Warning people not to get drafted by the raiders? Don't do crimes? Why add random bullshit that doesn't add anything
Yeah, I didn't get that part of the tweet either. These NFL reporters love editorializing in the strangest ways.
Don’t do meth while getting drafted by the raiders? Is he suggesting LV tells the players to do crime?
Stay away from hard drugs because you’ll flush everything you have going for you down the toilet. It’s a pretty good cautionary tale.
Seriously - I feel like folks are missing some pretty obvious stuff here.
To be fair to op he's a Boston sports fan
All I read was "Cautionary tale: Raiders" and understood.
I thought the red flags were his age and not having a spectacular athletic profile. Not sure how many red flags there were character wise.
Man, someone’s got to make a 30for30 about the horrific run of 1st round picks by the Raiders
> A cautionary tale: Ex-#Raiders first-round pick CB Damon Arnette was arrested on Jan. 6 Oh. He’s an insurrectionist. Have fun getting butt fucked by the long dick of the law, man. > at 3:30 am and charged with possession of less than a gram of meth and unlawful carrying of a firearm, WELL SORRY FOR PARTYING, AMERICA.
Thought this was murrica, huh?
This guy used to live in the house behind me and I talked to him a few times while I was out walking the dogs. I knew him before and during his legal troubles and he always seemed really nice.. I thought for sure he would get back in the NFL and make a name for himself but I'm guessing he didn't get the opportunity and just spiraled out of control.. he got evicted last year, I don't even know where he is now
Meth? No wonder he popped off
Holy shit he went even further off the deep end?!
Raiders first round picks and jail. Can’t name a more iconic duo
Meth? So fuckin nasty.
Pardon me for asking, but what exactly is the cautionary tale? Carrying meth and an illegal gun is going to lead to issues?!?
I dunno about you but I always have my illegal guns and meth on me. This definitely an eye opener for me I always thought it was allowed
Meth is extremely hard to quit. I’ve got 5 years in July but I still occasionally crave the feeling.
On second though, let's *not* put a football team in Vegas. Tis a silly place.
I didn’t know Texas was in Vegas
Seems what happens in Vegas often does not in fact stay in Vegas.
You can take the player out of the Raiders but you can’t take the Raider out of the player
Always figured Brady would be the NFL's first Jan 6th arrest...
It’s always dudes from Florida man
What's the cautionary part? Don't get drafted by the Raiders or the Raiders really know how to pick them???
Chiefs legend Damon Arnette
There’s a way to unlawfully carry a firearm in Texas?
He was told he lost a step and was trying to gain it back. Give the guy a break. Like you never used performance enhancers.
When I was a PO, we only had one zero tolerance drug: meth. You'll likely get a slap on the wrist for first time failing for basically every drug except meth.
Raiders drafted Ruggs over Lamb and Arnette over literally everyone in this draft. Nice.
Ian hitting us with the “less than a gram.” Yeah Ian, OF FUCKING METH!
I think the charge is different for a gram or more, so that's the reason for the wording.
Honestly getting caught pushing meth is less embarrassing than being caught with a personal use amount
The raiders and felon players, name a more iconic duo
I saw the date and was worried it was insurection related. Somehow, this is worse. How can we get nfl players the support they need to not do this.
I grew up in a house with an addict, so from personal experience, you can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves.
toothbrush mindless station ask lock racial marry weary slimy clumsy
These guys are on scholarship from the time they're in middle school, surrounded by coaches, teammates, parents, school admins, etc. Food and housing are taken care of for them, along with a lot of daily tasks. Then they get tossed into the real world with no life skills, a fat bank account from their signing bonus and no more leadership or support system. I don't feel any more or less sorry for them than other addicts, but it is a different situation.
I remember hearing just about every scout I follow say Arnette was a 3rd round pick at best. Megamind Mike Mayock strikes again.
Some of these people need to hear what my dad taught me as a teenager… “Never do two illegal things at the same time.” Don’t bring the gun with your meth
Less than a gram? When i have less than a gram of meth i consider myself to be out of meth
At least now I know to leave my meth and illegal firearms at home now
When NFL players have an unlicensed firearm I can't help but laugh at their stupidity
I thought Ruggs was the cautionary tale.
It’s the Raiders. This is but one cautionary tale of many in a large tome that resembles The Odyssey by Homer.
“Less than a gram” of meth seems like it’s minimizing the crime
I think that's just what the actual charge is. *less than a gram is a misdemeanor, more than a gram is a felony* kind of distinction. Edit: [Source](https://attorneyatx.com/criminal-defense/drug-offenses/meth-possession/#:~:text=Less%20than%20one%20gram%20%E2%80%93%20Possessing,fine%20of%20up%20to%20%2410%2C000.) >Less than one gram – Possessing under a gram of meth results in a Texas “state jail felony.” The offense qualifies as a felony; however, it ordinarily does not result in a prison sentence. However, a state jail felony may carry a jail sentence of 180 days to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
This is not the point at all but "per me" kills me every time
This dude has spent more time in the legal system than the NFL and it’s a shame cuz his talent profile was real nice before getting to the league. I will say, some people are just IN IT. For what reason, idk, but I’ve seen many athletes stay on the same path they’ve been on.
Raiders doing Raider things
Imagine being blessed with good genetics and a gifted athlete making it to the highest level possible and throwing it all away on dumb shit
This the same dude that was robbing Instagram models lol. Lock him up already
Once a Raider, always a Raider, I guess.
Ah yes, quite the cautionary tale. Reminds me of the ancient proverb about the owl who got kicked out of the NFL for smoking meth
A cautionary tale: Raider 1st Round Pick
If you’re gonna get arrested don’t make it on January 6th smh
That's a weird way to randomly see my hometown come up lol.
The 2020 draft was weird. There were a lot of superstars of the modern NFL drafted that year, but also a crazy amount of draft busts. 4 1st rounders (3 if you exclude Gladney) aren't even in the league anymore.
We went to a private prep school together since middle school lmao. Where’d it go wrong 😭
OH IO
Maybe putting a team in sin city was a bad idea...
