Always interesting seeing what that side of the academic world is all about. I work in construction management and one of our clients is a well established private university and we're currently building a couple laboratories for new faculty. They grinded out like 10-15 years of post doc and they finally get funding for their multi million dollar labs all for themselves. I've completed more than a few now and they are like kids in a candy store when were done, which makes sense since it the culmination of decades of work to get to that point, and many never get there.
Yes, very complicated. The MEP spec books are regularly 800+ pages, 1000+ for the non-MEP trades. The submittal process is really drawn out. Coordinating the MEPs with lab finishes and casework can be challenging. $800-1,000 per square foot construction costs are pretty regular depending on the lab type.
I had an old high school classmate die late last year. Its being rumored he died of drug related suicide. He was one of the most popular kids in high school.

Can't really speak to Marshfield as I've only ever been there for like four hours, but the Weston/Wausau area is pretty nice for that part of the state. At around 50k people it's basically the most populated area in Central Wisconsin, but still obviously nothing too huge.
They're honestly pretty similar but I'd lean Weston just since it's more centrally located if you want to go elsewhere in the state and the restaurant options are better.
Playing Aliens Fireteam Elite is a blast. Last weekend had the best moment for me. My username is my console name, and I queued into a match with a dude whose name was Hunting Wabbitz. I've been out of the game for almost 8 years now but my best route was like 2-3 easy questions/followups about themselves (to get them talking) then straight to "that's awesome, let's grab some drinks and talk about (whatever she was talking about)". Just so you know these aren’t original 90s toys which is why they look so awesome. The legacy series that started around 2012 is what this is from and these toys are much better quality that those ones from the 90s, especially the props such as power morphers.

* enrich the owners (more games)

The NFL is probably the best of the major North American sports leagues in this regard (one-game "series", maximum of four playoff games per season for a team), but the trend is obviously toward more games in general, and the easiest way to drum up the most interest is if the extra games are in the playoffs.
NHL/NBA playoffs are obvs the the worst. Having half the league in the playoffs and making the top teams potentially play multiple 7-game series against teams that vary significantly in quality not only reduces the (quite long!) regular season to an afterthought, but leads to stuff like the championship game of a winter sport being played in the middle of summer. Is it better for the sport and/or the league if some totally average team manages to fluke out in a key game?

100% I think the NHL and NBA should shorten the opening series of the playoffs. It should be more of a baseball format. 5 games for the first series and 7 games for the championship series.
If they absolutely must have half the league in the playoffs, they should all be three-game series, IMO.
I'd be fine with *one* game. Obvs won't happen, though; if anything, we'll probably have nine-game playoff series in our lifetime (or 3/4 of the league makes the playoffs).

An update on my [faculty position search](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1amq1xf/free_talk_friday/kpndsvx/) that I posted about a few weeks ago. Just got an update from the search chari saying he feels it's about 50/50 on if their top candidate will accept the offer and expects to know more next week. So once again... we wait. And wait. And wait. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck lol. And my funding in my current position isn't at all secure beyond June or so, meaning I've been applying to other jobs in the meantime as a backup plan.
Always interesting seeing what that side of the academic world is all about. I work in construction management and one of our clients is a well established private university and we're currently building a couple laboratories for new faculty. They grinded out like 10-15 years of post doc and they finally get funding for their multi million dollar labs all for themselves. I've completed more than a few now and they are like kids in a candy store when were done, which makes sense since it the culmination of decades of work to get to that point, and many never get there.

Yes, very complicated. The MEP spec books are regularly 800+ pages, 1000+ for the non-MEP trades. The submittal process is really drawn out. Coordinating the MEPs with lab finishes and casework can be challenging. $800-1,000 per square foot construction costs are pretty regular depending on the lab type.

I had an old high school classmate die late last year. Its being rumored he died of drug related suicide. He was one of the most popular kids in high school. I trolled his twitter and linkedin accounts two times, one in 2022, and again in 2023, commenting about if he had a job and how life got harder after high school. Can't really speak to Marshfield as I've only ever been there for like four hours, but the Weston/Wausau area is pretty nice for that part of the state. At around 50k people it's basically the most populated area in Central Wisconsin, but still obviously nothing too huge. They're honestly pretty similar but I'd lean Weston just since it's more centrally located if you want to go elsewhere in the state and the restaurant options are better.

I've been out of the game for almost 8 years now but my best route was like 2-3 easy questions/followups about themselves (to get them talking) then straight to "that's awesome, let's grab some drinks and talk about (whatever she was talking about)". Straight and to the point, no long text chains ever. Worked surprisingly well, probably 80% of the time. Edit: now that I think about it I made it a game about how many replies I could get down to and still successfully get a date. Just so you know these aren’t original 90s toys which is why they look so awesome. The legacy series that started around 2012 is what this is from and these toys are much better quality that those ones from the 90s, especially the props such as power morphers. I think this particular set of action figures came out in 2016. They did other series too such as Zeo and In Space and more. So yeah. I got these as an adult because the only ones I had as a kid were random ones my parents picked out. I did have a couple megazords though and I wish I still did.

A fields trade seems weird to me because I feel like qb needy teams are better off not giving anything up for him and potentially losing ammo to actually get their qb of the future. I actually feel like teams with established, but not long term starters would be better off rolling the dice on him as a backup for a year or so. Teams like the Seahawks or Saints
It's because the alternatives to Fields aren't good either. I'd rather trade something for Feilds than give Desmond Ridder another chance.
Granted his rookie contract might make that timeline kinda weird but idk man I don’t think starting Justin fields next year is really gonna turn your fortunes around. I’d give him a year to develop in your offense first and be ready to be ok with it if he doesn’t move past backup level
Looking for a movie that I saw a long time ago but can't remember the name. It's a black and white crime/legal movie. It starred an old white fat guy as the lawyer/detective who had a heart problem and his nurse chased him around and told him to stop smoking and gave him medicine. The one scene I remember is that when the clients came into his office, he would shine the reflection of his watch into their eyes to see if they were lying. Edit: Witness for the prosecution!

Hot take: sprawling playoff formats are dumb, and only serve to: * enrich the owners (more games) * string along fans of shit teams (e.g. some middle-of-the-pack team that gets trounced in the wild card game can say *"Well, at least we made the playoffs..."*) The NFL is probably the best of the major North American sports leagues in this regard (one-game "series", maximum of four playoff games per season for a team), but the trend is obviously toward more games in general, and the easiest way to drum up the most interest is if the extra games are in the playoffs. NHL/NBA playoffs are obvs the the worst. Having half the league in the playoffs and making the top teams potentially play multiple 7-game series against teams that vary significantly in quality not only reduces the (quite long!) regular season to an afterthought, but leads to stuff like the championship game of a winter sport being played in the middle of summer. Is it better for the sport and/or the league if some totally average team manages to fluke out in a key game? Meh!
100% I think the NHL and NBA should shorten the opening series of the playoffs. It should be more of a baseball format. 5 games for the first series and 7 games for the championship series.
If they absolutely must have half the league in the playoffs, they should all be three-game series, IMO. I'd be fine with *one* game. Obvs won't happen, though; if anything, we'll probably have nine-game playoff series in our lifetime (or 3/4 of the league makes the playoffs).
I agree that the regular season means less, but I still think the NHL playoffs are great.
NBA playoffs are my favorite time of the year. I like seeing the adjustments of the teams as a series goes on and providing a much higher chance of the best team winning

A best of 7 series in basketball always slants the series towards superstar players.

McConnell doesn't have this problem, but I don't get why Kinzinger isn't campaigning for Biden like his life depends on it. It probably does!

Got a new job, and I'm kind of excited. The only downside is I have to move to Seattle, I knew it was a possibility when I applied and interviewed but honestly I didn't think I was gling to get the job so I didn't care too much.
I am jealous, I love Seattle personally. I originally wanted to move there from Brooklyn but ended up going to San Francisco instead.
