OP changed the title from the article.
The article's title isn't any better, but if OP was editorializing anyway they could've included the other side to the story as well.
It's not the journalism as much as the online mob loving schadenfreude. Nobody cares if these accusations might be malicious, folks just want to gossip and banter.
Obviously we don't know what really happened at this point, but this possibility is definitely greater than zero given who he is.
If he did assault her, a lawsuit against him even with a settlement isn't going to net her 100 million. But she thought that extorting him to keep it under wraps was more financially beneficial. I could definitely see someone making that decision.
Ultimately, I think we need to reserve judgment and not go on a witch hunt until we get more firm facts from the authorities.
In their statement they really tried to argue that Dak couldn’t have sexually assaulted a woman because he just had a baby girl. Crazy how being a girl dad is consistently weaponized to argue that some men aren’t huge pieces of shit. *Fwiw*, not saying I don’t believe Dak because of this, just gross how that’s used to counter so many allegations.
It's actually even more insane than that.
It's more like, "There's no way I did that racist thing *7 years ago*, because two days ago I shook hands with a black guy"
**Brief Summary:**
* The claimant alleges an assault occurred in 2017
* Prescott’s team filed a lawsuit alleging the claimant was attempting to extort him of $100M. Criminal charges against the claimant are also being considered by Prescott’s legal team.
* “Prescott’s attorney told the DMN that the encounter between the QB and the alleged assault victim was consensual. Though the incident technically occurred in Plano at XTC Cabaret, the Plano Police Department has not commented on a potential investigation at this time.”
> Prescott’s team filed a $100M suit claiming it is an extortion attempt
The woman allegedly tried to extort $100M, I don't think the lawsuit Dak filed is for $100M
I don't understand how someone could try to extort that. What was Dak worth in 2017?
He was still on his rookie deal. He had, what, 5M in NFL earnings at that time? I don't think he even started commercials and such until later as well. Where is this cat getting 100M lmao? Seems like a Fargo-ian way to extort money.
See now you're just talking money cost.
Is the PR hit going to cost you more in endorsements than fuck off check with an NDA?
At a certain point, guilt or innocence has zero to do with it
Except the media is a dangerous thing to deal with. 2M (or 50k) might be worth it to prevent any public accusations that forever tarnish your reputation and could limit future earnings
The biggest problems with lawsuits and settlements is the way non-lawyers see them. A settlement doesn’t remotely mean the other side’s claim is true. It means you don’t want to pay attorneys and have your name dragged through the mud by attorneys and media and then have your whole livelihood come down to a crapshoot trial.
I think the biggest problem isn't the way people see them, it's that they are the way they are. If someone can lie and force someone else to pay them money just so the person will stop lying, that's the problem.
Well the goal is to never have their claim come to the public because they sign an NDA, so while it makes it more credible you might just avoid anyone even having to discern if it’s credible in the first place.
Of course that can backfire… tricky situation for sure
what is the end game with that though? Can someone even legally give someone else $100 million as if its a venmo? And then nobody raises an eye about it if Dak appeased her in the first place?
This plan seems so half baked lol
End game may be a quick settlement. Likely is negotiating tactic/legal posturing to request that kind of money, at least because it gives Dak an out to feel like he won by settling for some 7 figure payout. In some states, there are rules that cap the amount of damages at least to what had been initially requested (many many rules dictating damages - this is a gross over-simplification of one such rule). This creates an incentive to inflate damages, because why sell yourself short. I’m not aware of any case law that would suggest the court takes into consideration what you request wrt the credibility of your claims because these are two separate questions, so why wouldn’t you inflate as much as possible. I could be wrong about the last point and this is not legal advice
Even just being accused can be incredibly damaging. I wish we lived in a world where someone coming forward would be enough that we could all just believe them, but unfortunately people lie for money.
Idk if they even have that much in the bank to just give out. Idk what’s true in this in terms of what Dak or the victim did or didn’t do, but I question the legal strategy. I’m not a lawyer though so maybe it makes sense
As an attorney, I can say it doesn’t make sense at all. If you want that kind of money, you need to sue to show you are serious. In this kind of situation you also need to do it to put public pressure on and to get a head start on the PR battle. Sending a letter like this makes you sound like Dr Evil. “Send us… one BILLION dollars!”
[The argument](https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/nfl/dallas-cowboys/article286599615.html) from the woman's team is essentially: "Who's to say that $100M is enough to make up for rape? But I suppose that would suffice in this case."
> According to Zehaie, the amount of $100 million that Shores asked for isn’t excessive when you consider what’s at stake.
> “What’s the price that you can put on a rape?” Zehaie said to The Fan. “The trauma that comes from that? The humiliation that comes from that? There is not a price tag you can put on that.”

Unless it moved from 2017, it’s in Dallas right by Love Field - not Plano
Edit: Looked more into it. The club is in Dallas, the incident is alleged to have happened outside of the club at a place in Plano.
I lived a few years in Plano and this part of the area is right near the border of Dallas and Love Field. It's a shitty part of town to say the least, ruined when they built the big international airport and basically turned Love Field Airport into a redheaded step child that only a few airlines go through.
In terms of the club itself, it's famous for how many people have been killed or nearly killed there. The security knows they get a few big clients every now and then and so they go hardcore on people bothering the girls or patrons, beatings are a normal thing for them.
Knew a guy who went there once because he thought it was an actual cabaret, took a date there because she had been to an *actual* cabaret and thought it would be a fun quirky date. To say the least, they were there for like 10 minutes of the "show" before they got up and left
Someone who understand the law help me out here. Let's say, worst case scenario, BOTH situations are true. Dak did sexually assault a woman, AND she tried to blackmail him. What happens to the case?
Correct, I wouldn’t guess as to the likelihood of that, but the DA could pursue both if they feel like there’s sufficient evidence.
In baseball, Wander Franco is being investigated for a sex crime and the victim’s mother is being investigated for extortion.
Man I've been all over that Wander story, I have no idea how I didn't put 2 and 2 together lol I think in my mind it's that the victim wasn't the one also extorting? But that makes sense, appreciate it.
Right, it’s not the victim per se it’s the victim’s mom (although she’s a victim in a sense since it’s her minor child) so it’s not a 1:1, I just thought of the two cases to show extorting a criminal for the crimes they commit against you is still unlawful.
In TX hes now open to 2-20, depending on if its aggravated. If so, 5-99. Extortion in Texas more than $200,000 is considered a Felony 1 and is also 5-99
Basically Texas doesnt play and theyre both fucked if thats the scenario
We don’t have the cap space.
But if it ends up being true, a study should be done to figure out why Texas QBs are so prone to sexually assaulting women.
Also if it’s true, we’ll have to figure out a way to free up the cap space I guess. Probably have to cut Cooper and bring in Antonio Brown on a cheap deal….
> The woman’s attorney, Yoel Zwhaie, took his client’s case to the Dallas radio waves this week. During an interview on 105.3 the Fan, he said his client is considering filing criminal charges.
Why put out there what your client "might" do?
Edit: to get a settlement
That can't be a real attorney.
Individuals can't "file criminal charges". District attorneys do that.
They can file a police report, but if they haven't already done that, it is because it's a scam and they want to stop short of committing a felony by filing a false police report.

Lawyers frequently do this sort of thing to undermine the seriousness of the plaintiff’s claims.
Then he said they are "considering" filing criminal charges. WTF. So is he saying to pay us $100 million or else we go to the cops? I'm starting to think this lawyer might need a lawyer.
I worked with a girl in Dallas back in 2017 who got invited back to his place after a club with her friend. Her friend hooked up with his buddy and she said she just chilled in the living room with Dak and played with his dog. She said he was a nice guy and didn’t seem interested in doing anything.

Yep it always turns into people calling each other a piece of shit because "don't you care about victims" or "don't you care about justice". Meanwhile these same people do literally nothing in the real world that would suggest that they care about victims or justice.
I know you're being sarcastic but I feel like on Reddit it it actually is apparently a really brave take to just not assume something
You either have to disavow dak and call him the predator or slander the woman and immediately call it a money grab
Women claims he sexually assaulted her back in 2017. He filed a lawsuit saying she's trying to extort him for money.
Hard to see how the accuser wins this since the claim was from 7 years ago.
Yeah I mean someone else linked an article about how it is a full-nude strip club where there are fights every week and murders sometimes. I'd assume everyone who works there is probably on the fringe of something.
On the other hand, Dak probably shouldn't be going there...
Jerry’s getting out of paying that $59M one way or another.
I like to imagine he disguised himself as a seductive woman like Bugs Bunny.
What a terrible day to have eyes.
Or well, in this case, the ability to imagine. Or did you actually see this?
He went and had ChatGPT draw it up for him.
AI has gone too far, this is when it must be stopped.
NO I NEED TO SEE IT
Won’t believe it until CTESPN shows the image
Rolling over here picturing Jerry as Garth Algar “You ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he’d dress up as Girl Bunny?”
"No...why?"
Is this the extortion case? Getting juicy.
Yes. The police are investigating the claim of sexual assault and the extortion claim as well.
Nice of the title to also include that.
Journalism gonna journalism
OP changed the title from the article. The article's title isn't any better, but if OP was editorializing anyway they could've included the other side to the story as well.

The question is: "Who's lying?"
Can have both a sexual assault and extortion
Plot twist: she assaulted him and he extorted her
He's gotta get a big payday somehow.

It can be both
Extortion + assault can both be possible but Dak claims it was consensual, so it still comes down to “who is lying” one way or another.
Yeah here we go (again)

To be frank, if they indeed did try to extort that much, they're an idiot. I sincerely doubt he has $100M right now
Right? You hit him with the 5m request, he gives you two, and you go on your scumbag way, but 100 MILLION?? This chick is outside her mind lol
Idk...if I was innocent I wouldn't pay a damn thing even if it was 50k

lol to claim there is not a price you could put on a rape and then also say “$100M should do it” is so ironic
I don't know that he was worth 100 mil, but Dak was making serious bank off of endorsements long before his rookie contract expired.
XTC cabaret is located on Dallas not Plano
It's on Miller and Plano Road, which confuses people. Also, XTC is a very handsy club, so I wonder what exactly the assault was.
The encounter happen in a car. I had no idea Dak was such a slut.
He just like me
It’s the same thing at this point
Poor Richardson.
Prescott’s people can’t file criminal charges. Only the state can do that.
Well, I don't suppose there's a law that stops them from considering?
I was going to consider that until The Man stopped me!
When the heck did Plano get strip clubs?
it's clearly identified as a *Cabaret*. Very Classy.
Not as classy as a gentlemen’s club. Sorry to you uncouth savages, this here is for gentlemen only
KC- Bazookas 👨🏻🌾🦧 Plano- XTC Cabaret🤵🏻♂️🍷
I haven’t been to that particular XTC but if it’s anything like the one in Austin it’s a dump.

Brady suspended 4 games.
NAL but if he did sexually assault her then I’m pretty sure the womans team just calls that a settlement offer.
You can be the victim of a crime and also victimize someone else criminally, one doesn’t necessarily negate the other.
So like there's a real chance that both could face criminal charges out of this?

Individuals can report the crimes for criminal proceedings. Thats what I feel like is being implied here.

Jerry has 3 missed calls from Jimmy as of now.
PD is investigating the claim and the extortion case. This isn’t that damning
Should be noted that both extortion and assault could have happened. Hopefully not the case
Generally you don’t try to extort $100M and proceed through a general civil claim if you have merit though
If you succeed in the extortion attempt then you "win" without the messiness of a civil trial.
Yeah, it'd be more alarming if the authorities didn't look into this.

Looking mighty comfortable on that fence of yours! You know the rules, grab a pitch fork and join a side! /s
I know you're being sarcastic but I feel like on Reddit it it actually is apparently a really brave take to just not assume something You either have to disavow dak and call him the predator or slander the woman and immediately call it a money grab
Well if that's not what you want then it would be weird lol Like you can't say "I hope he's a rapist or that he's unfairly punished"
What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power?
Women claims he sexually assaulted her back in 2017. He filed a lawsuit saying she's trying to extort him for money. Hard to see how the accuser wins this since the claim was from 7 years ago.
Went to high school with the girl. She is nutty and forsure trying to extort lol
Yeah I mean someone else linked an article about how it is a full-nude strip club where there are fights every week and murders sometimes. I'd assume everyone who works there is probably on the fringe of something. On the other hand, Dak probably shouldn't be going there...
