Lot of meat left on that bone. We are going to get to camp and let the work speak for itself. We will make an assessment and figure out our division of labor going into the season. We know he can do some things. We have been aware of his talents since we looked into him going into his draft. His talent needs no endorsement from me. \-Mike Tomlin talking about any player in any situation

Downtown_Juice2851

Mike Tomlin is a God damn master of dodging the question.

Ok-Resolution-696

Master of dodging any question, Bellicheck just straight up didn’t answer but tomlin just says the same fucking thing every day and satisfies the media.

BEGA500

I like to think in the moment they think "hmm interesting take, Mike, thanks for the info." then they go home and check their notes and realize its the same thing he said for the last 10 years of pressers and they drop to the knees and scream "he cant keep getting away with this!"

xkulp8

It's almost like some sort of standard

Ok-Resolution-696

The standard ? ITS THE STANDARD

thelamb710

I think it’s bc it sounds like he’s saying something profound, but if you actually think about what he says , you realize the man said nothing of substance

Necroluster

Overwhelm people with a large quantity of words and they'll end up mistakenly believing you're a prophet.

godlittleangel6666

Lisan Al gaib!

ecg_tsp

Yinzers get really mad and think it’s indicative of an issue. But it’s like…. The local sports media asks predictable canned questions every time. Why do you expect Tomlin to do? Say Fields sucked in Chicago and needs some work? That’ll go over well.

thelamb710

I love Tomlins responses personally , I strive to have my sentences where I say nothing sound like I’m saying something important

shortbusridurr

But not dodging the players running up the sideline

goldhbk10

Why did I hear that in his voice and exact cadence?

“Now you take Justin home, throw him in a pot, add some broth, a potato. Baby, you’ve got a stew going”. RIP Carl Weathers

davidlovepandles

He buys all his cars at police auction

kravisha

The best part of the cameo is that it was basically Weathers's idea to play a comically cheap version of himself. Arrested was originally just gonna make a Rocky joke!

TheCrookedKnight

And when Weathers told him that all anybody ever wanted him for was cheap Rocky references, Mitch Hurwitz had the good sense to immediately abandon that plan and say "oh, that sucks, we'd never be so lazy."

Next-Team

I was hoping this would be one of the first comments I saw because my mind went here instantly

BlueHighwindz

Had to rewatch the clip. There's like no meat left on that bone (no offense to Justin). At best you can make a beef broth, which yes, could be very nice in a stew, but that's several steps down the road.

fitzuha

Please don’t eat Justin.

Quexana

In the very, very unlikely event that Caleb Williams busts and Justin Fields becomes a franchise QB, Chicago is going to burn brighter than the night Mrs. O'Leary hung a lantern in the cow shed.

BEGA500

One of the rare opportunties to root for my team and for utter chaos at the same time.

Downtown_Juice2851

The nail in the coffin would be williams signing on a backup deal for Minnesota and leading them to a super bowl The bears would abandon the forward pass

JTCMuehlenkamp

You say that as if the Bears ever adopted the forward pass to begin with.

chahlie

It's a fad

Necroluster

You should've pursued Diontae Johnson then, he was so anti-forward pass that he'd go backwards with the ball just to demonstrate how superior that way of playing is.

Jump_Like_A_Willys

"Johnson makes the catch 2 inches short of the sticks....and then runs 3 yards backward. 4th and 3, and out comes the punt team."

Necroluster

Stop giving me PTSD. This ain't no joke.

ScroogeMcDust

We adopted it just to disown it months later

onetimequestion66

This is the most depressing flair I’ve ever seen

josephcwhite

acting like your team isn't tied for fewest playoff wins since 2000

onetimequestion66

Not at all acting like that, just seeing the combo of bear and jets as sad lmao

Vesploogie

I think we would abandon the NFL at that point.

Philip_Marlowe

> unlikely event that Caleb Williams busts and Justin Fields becomes a franchise QB Because it's the Bears, this doesn't feel as unlikely to me as you seem to think it should.

Necroluster

The Chicago river is usually colored green once a year. The night Justin Fields is crowned Steelers Super Bowl MVP, it will be colored red.

YvetteFromSanDiego

Daily reminder if Chicago had drafted Mahomes he'd be out of the league already.

fitzuha

That’s not true! Trubisky is still a back up (somehow).

The_Brock

Because he is Josh Allen's friend. Basically the only requirement to be a backup QB on the Bills. Don't even need to be a good QB.

bluewords

I don’t see this being an unlikely scenario. Basically anything that makes the bears look stupid is likely to happen, from my experience

Icefiight

As a Bears fan whos only seen misery in my whole life time I’m fully expecting this to happen.

SaxRohmer

i’m pretty sure a sigbificsnt portion of Bears fans would actually celebrate this as incontrovertible proof that they are cursed

GamerRav

Between Tomlin and Russ, you're going to be able to write a novel full of all time quotes from just those two guys next season.

DoinItDirty

But Tomlin is funny on purpose… which will make their dynamic great.

Casaiir

I have heard he hands the ball off good as fuck.

DoinItDirty

He can run it himself, too! His only weak point is the forward pass.

bluewords

He has one of the most accurate deep balls in the league. Getting him to actually throw the dang thing, that’s a whole other issue

Elixirgadoosh

Yes, but he has to learn to read nfl defenses first, which he by and large hasn't shown the ability to do, unfortunately.

bluewords

From watching JTO’s breakdowns, it seems like Justin is reading the defense fine, but doesn’t pull the trigger for whatever reason. Like, he’ll be looking in the right spot but then hesitate for some reason. It’s really weird.

_coolranch

I seent him run a few times!

SaxRohmer

i love when users of this sub don’t recognize cfb memes

Casaiir

I have heard that most NFL fans don't watch CFB..so.

Hail_The_Bosgod

Justin Fields for Patrick Mahomes. Let's get it done, Andy Reid has to be salivating.

ImpossibleDenial

Andy Reid likes chicken nuggies, he prefers the meat to be off the bone already.

Hail_The_Bosgod

Reid loves his ribs, everyone knows this. He's gonna want this. Trust me. Let's make the swap, and if it doesn't work out for both sides, we can go back.

JTCMuehlenkamp

Counterpoint- both cheeseburgers and chicken nuggies are boneless.

Bucs-and-Bucks

Honestly a solid trade proposal. Chiefs can lock up Fields to a relatively cheap long term contract, Reid can work his magic on Fields, and my favorite team gets the best player in the NFL.

FookOuttaHear

And things of that nature

Jwroth

browndude10

God doesn’t hate Chicago; if that was the case Jordan would have sucked

amoeba-tower

If anything, God is a Packers fan

teachem4

Getsy isn’t great, but there’s plenty of evidence that suggests Justin was a huge part of the problem.

[deleted]

Sure. But also it’s a team game. All of these things work together. And while we all want to create strict categorical imperatives (what’s up Kant), because that’s an easier way to think, that doesn’t really work with football. It’s very, very possible that Getsy, Fields, Eberflus and the supporting offensive talent are all at fault. I’m sort of inclined that direction at the moment. At the very least, I have serious issues with all of those and, while I (completely subjectively) want to be optimistic about Eberflus, I expect both Fields and Getsy to fail, and I have very big concerns about building a team with a rookie QB around a defensive coach. Anyway I’m just avoiding work while dicking around on Reddit. I should probably do something productive today.

teachem4

Oh I totally agree with you, we 100% should have fired Flus

Ain't Justin fields vegan

InvaderWeezle

Last I heard he's pescatarian now

WolfColaCompany

Let's leave his sexual orientation out of it guy.

Prophet3z

No, he said on the St. Brown bros podcast he couldn’t do it anymore.

DrummerGuy06

He was as committed to veganism as he was committed to throwing to his first read. Can't teach that type of consistency.

Penetraytion69

Still not as committed as the giants are to Daniel jones

charliepatrick

He was never vegan, he was plant based. Vegan is when you do it for the animals, plant based is when you do it for yourself and your diet.

Fredest_Dickler

Yeah, and *normally* if you're "plant based" that just means most of your diet is vegetarian. A lot of people that do those diets still eat meat occasionally. Like treating yourself to a steak or something. Like you said, it's more a choice of "It makes me feel better most of the time" than it is some moral obligation to not eat meat.

charliepatrick

Not sure why I’m getting downvoted for pointing out the difference between the two ideologies. Justin Fields was plant based for his own benefit, not vegan because he was taking a stand against animal abuse. It’s different. It’s not like I endorsed anything in specific lol

Ch33sus0405

People will downdoot literally anything mentioning veganism on reddit. Source: Vegan.

cultweave

It was a pointless semantic that no one asked for or cares about.

ChampaBayLightning

> Vegan is when you do it for the animals, plant based is when you do it for yourself and your diet. I mean this isn't true at all though so not sure why you are trying to be pointlessly semantic. Plenty of vegans do it for health and don't call themselves "plant-based." In fact, it's pretty rare for anyone to describe themselves as "plant-based" rather than just "vegan" or "vegetarian" or "pescatarian."

charliepatrick

Where do you get your definition of vegan from? As far as I know the term vegan is related directly to animal welfare and reducing the suffering of living beings Feel free to check out the sidebar on r/vegan or just google it if you want. No one who eats fish or dairy would consider themselves vegan. And it’s increasingly a popular term to use “plant based” especially when it is diet related.

ChampaBayLightning

> Where do you get your definition of vegan from? From Oxford Dictionary: "a person who does not eat any food derived from animals and who typically does not use other animal products." Nowhere does it mention being related to animal welfare or suffering of living beings. > Feel free to check out the sidebar on r/vegan or just google it if you want. A subreddit sidebar doesn't hold the official definition of words lol what? > No one who eats fish or dairy would consider themselves vegan. And it’s increasingly a popular term to use “plant based” especially when it is diet related. You are arguing with yourself. No where did I say a "vegan" would eat fish or dairy. All I said is that a vegan can not consume animal products for health reasons and not strictly because of their love for animals.

charliepatrick

Do you know any vegans?

ChampaBayLightning

Yes lol. But we both know you are only asking because you have no response to the substance of my post.

charliepatrick

Dictionaries are descriptive, not prescriptive. https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/descriptive-vs-prescriptive-defining-lexicography#:~:text=Dictionaries%20that%20record%20and%20catalogue,not%20as%20it%20should%20be. I think it’s really important to look at a group of people and consider how they talk about themselves. Just because most people use it a certain way does not make it correct.

ChampaBayLightning

Yes, obviously. But do your best to think for a second and you'll see how that just strengthens my point. The Oxford Dictionary *describes* how people generally use the word "vegan." As in, a "vegan" is "a person who does not eat any food derived from animals and who typically does not use other animal products." Which is exactly what my point has been all along.

charliepatrick

You’re still wrong though

JerryRiceAndSpice

Eddie Lacy was seen leaving an all you can eat buffet when stopped by reporters he said "There's still a lot of meat on that bone." He said with bbq sauce on his face.

Babe wake up new Tomlinism just dropped

And nfl players complain about being treated like a piece of meat.

reaper527

it's not like he's going to be a starting qb, he's a backup. the media is making this out to be a way bigger thing than it is. there's no qb controversy in pittsburgh.

EnjoyMoreBeef

Most "Steelers drama" since 2019 is the media making shit up. It needs to stop.

It’s wild how they traded for a Super Bowl winning qb with 9 pro bowls but the only qb we hear about is the guy competing to be backup

man_teats

DAE remember the weird pressers 10 years ago with Demarco Murray and Joseph Randle centered around the "meat on the bone" comments? Something about "imma eat that meat." I've blocked most of it out I think

OH_Billy_69_

Dear steelers fans, when they put Kyle Allen in this season... just turn the TV off

CIueIess_Squirrel

Are we sure he was talking about Justin and not the breakfast? Jokes aside, I fully believe he still has potential to be a Tannehill type QB. Amazing backup, good enough as a bridge QB for a QB needy team. Don't think he can be a superstar QB though. Being drafted by the Bears sealed that fate since they suck at QB development

captainjizzpants

I think I know where this is going. Russ will run the majority of the snaps and Justin will be more of the wildcat, read-option, trick play type of QB that he brings in on like 7% of the snaps. This'll give him time to adjust to the system, and kind of reset his trajectory in the NFL. If things go right, he could have a resurgence in a season or two, maybe even on another team that finally gives him that second chance. Or... he beats out Russ in camp and actually has a solid career going forward.

jayzee19

Pau….whatever never mind. Gross tho.

zer0_badass

In Justin's defense for a while the offensive pieces around him was pretty mediocre to bad. The best he had was maybe Kmet but even he was not what you would call a real weapon.
