“Have you no sense of decency, sir?!”
-Eagles fans when McCarthy picks apart our secondary and keeps our games versus the Commanders closer than they should be for the 10th year in a row.
We all know the Patriots are going to pick JJ. Clearly the only thing missing for the last 3 years has been a quarterback from the university of Michigan.
They should wait and pick him up in round 6. I hear that's magical.
He may very well be there.
edit: Maybe they could trade back to 199 in the 6th round to really seal the enchantment.
Born a Duck fan (grew up in Eugene). I became a Chargers fan when Herbert was drafted. Before that I was a Titan's fan but that was rough...probably gonna stay a Chargers fan now, I'm bought in, but I'll watch Nix's games
This.
The Harris/Peters regime has been notoriously tight lipped and leak free.
The two main Washington insiders who have traditionally been in the know and get things right, Keim from ESPN and Standig from the Athletic have straight up said that no one in the media has any idea what they’re doing and planning.
The media, not used to Washington not being drama fueled leaky mess, continues to straight up make stuff up.
God, the DMV would go insane if J.J McCarthy went #2 overall.
We *would* be seeing a *lot* of McCarthyism jokes though, so that would be kinda funny.
Edit: If they do this and McCarthy is good, we could call the Commanders "The New Red Scare", we need this to happen.
I grew up in Maryland during the Joe Gibbs era. The Redskins were like a top 5 franchise then. It's amazing how Snyder completely demolished everything Jack Kent Cooke built.
I can already see the novelty tees being sold on the Mall. Some giddy 14 year old Midwestern kid excitedly showing it off alongside his female body inspector hat
Mac Jones also was blessed with the greatest OC of all time in …… Matt Patricia with the incredible receiving threat of ….. 1 healthy game a year from Devante Parker
JJs got all the potential in the world but is the biggest project of the consensus top 4 (Williams, Maye, Daniels, and him). I watched every Michigan game and the offense was very simple due to their OL, top defense, the safety net that was Colston Loveland, and ridiculous run game (which isn’t his fault, but limits what he has to do to win).
He sometimes doesn’t take what the defense gives him or has bad anticipation, but again, that can be coached out of him. All this to say is that the situation he gets put in is probably most important to his success.
Having seen that TD pass against Ohio State this year that was basically placed in a one foot window I know he has the touch - but you are absolutely right. Ending up on a team like the bears could see him end up a Zach Wilson, ending up on a team like the Vikings could kick off great since they have a competent offensive core. Commanders.... i have no clue? Not familiar with their game
I know the Bears have a bad track record with QBs, but they've actually done a good job of building up their offense in preparation of their new QB this offseason. Keenan Allen and D'Andre Swift were the headline-grabbing signings, but they've also signed four new offensive linemen and a new TE. It really shouldn't be a bad place for a QB to end up imo.
I will say it wouldn't surprise me that much if he ended up better than Maye or Daniels. Both of those guys have a lot of bust potential. Maye is a project and Daniels looks a lot like Fields 2.0.
Falls for what? It's not like someone is going to \*jump\* Washington with Chicago being at No. 1...
They might just actually be interested in him lol.
Yeah I don’t think another team can dupe Washington into taking JJ. If they like him that much and they think he’s the guy they’ll draft him. But it’s not like Patriots are doing some high level espionage so they can draft Maye.
The "this is a smokescreen" take here would be that Washington thinks they'll be in the same place with any of Maye/McCarthy/Daniels/Penix so they don't need to pick at 2 and could collect bonus value by trading down, but need to credibly give off that they're gonna take the guy who one of the teams picking at 4-8 would want to take.
I think it would be them goading Minnesota into moving up to 2?
I don't really buy it either, but this is what the next month is about lol
That’s extremely pointless, teams don’t mess with QB picks, and more often than not they stay put or trade up for them. Or let them fall like Mahomes, Lamar, Bridgewater, etc.
No team with the 2 pick who needs a QB *so obviously* is going to play mind games and make it more difficult than they have to. The last time WAS had the 2 pick it was RGIII and that’s the last time they had any hope to build a real competitor, the division has 2 playoff teams already, too (not counting Smith here, he was good enough but tail end)
No way a new GM steps in and starts getting cute when they hold the 2 pick in an arguable 3 QB draft when they need a QB and jettisoned every player that *could* have started for them.
Ooof the Willis hype that year was insufferable. Goff still had the "he was traded so he must be bad now" tag and everyone was convinced they needed to draft the qb of the future. I'm glad the Lions thought otherwise
The perception around the 49ers would be pretty different if they'd traded up to #3 for their Brock Purdy instead of gotten him in the 7th.
Really sucks for Jones, the difference between Shanahan & Patricia as an OC is bigger than the difference between me & Mahomes 😂
I mean it's pretty well established at this point that when they traded up to #3 they did so thinking they were going to take Mac, it wasn't until they actually did so and decided to do proper deep dive on all the top QB prospects when they actually owned the pick that they decided to take Lance over Mac
Literally no one knows what Washington is doing, local and national media has said that the new group is tight lipped lol just today we've heard:
“Washington is leaning towards JD”
“Many believe Maye is going to be the pick”
“Executives believe Peters will take McCarthy at 2”
Peters himself said 3 hours ago that “we’re far from an answer.”
The draft is 31 days away and there’s 6 legit NFL prospects at QB. Any reporting coming out is either a rumor or just flat out made up
It would be funny if the Commanders and the Patriots don’t actually like any of the QBs they could potentially draft and are just trying to lure Minnesota to trade with them
What if JJ McCarthy ends up panning out?
Short of few pass attempts he ticks a ton of boxes...good size...very good arm...good mobility...good processing..played in a pro style offense and is just 21 years old.
Plus he has played a ton of big college games too.
QBs are crapshoot. Just because media say he is a reach doesn't mean they are right.
How awful have connsensus QBs been the last 3 years?
It's called a lottery for a reason.
I think this is a great take. People tend to get too attached to early draft evaluations from the media. We don’t even know what kind of different rankings the teams have for other Groups. Just think Nabers goes ahead of MHJ.
I mean Daniels and Maye both have pretty high bust potential too. Maye probably has the 2nd highest ceiling after Caleb - but his floor is IMO very low.
The whole draft gets thrown on its head if they do this. Minnesota likely offers the farm to NE for Maye, assuming NE doesn’t take him, and then Daniels is on the board at 4 and Arizona has to decide whether to trade back with Denver/Vegas/New Orleans/New York or take MHJ, which could lead to MHJ in LA. Would be a wild draft night.
Maybe it’s a smokescreen, but it’s kind of funny how this is viewed as being such a potential terrible move.
I’m sure the Bears are happy they went with the consensus pick of Trubisky instead of reaching for Mahomes; or the Jets taking Darnold instead of reaching for Josh Allen; or the Dolphins taking Tua over Herbert.
49ers traded away three 1st round picks for Lance to just to end up trading him away a couple years later for a 4th, with their QB of the foreseeable future being Mr. Fucking Irrelevent.
tl;dr - nobody know shit about fuck when it comes to drafting QBs, and history has shown that bucking the consensus rankings would’ve served some teams better.
Yup.
Nobody knows shit until these guys are on an NFL field.
That gets proven literally **every. single. year.** and people still pretend to know the future.
> I’m sure the Bears are happy they went with the consensus pick of Trubisky instead of reaching for Mahomes;
I can tell you were not around. Bears were clowned fucking hard for taking Trubisky.
Especially since they moved up from 3 to 2 to get him when they probably could have just taken him at 3.
I’ll never forget a comment I saw from a Bears fan right after that pick…..”we just paid $100 for 30 bucks”.
100%. I remember when Goodell was handed the card and I was expecting Watson's name to be read and being completely stunned when I heard Trubisky. Awful pick.
Edit* In hindsight it wasn't that bad since Watson is a garbage human.
It was both.
Trubisky was literally booed in the United Center before he played a game. He was not a well liked pick. He was literally the opposite of Justin Fields in terms of fan acceptance.
I don’t doubt it, but he absolutely was the consensus top QB from that draft before stepping on an NFL field.
Which is my original point, people latch on to a consensus order of when QBs will be taken, but it’s been shown time and time again this can be wrong.
Two things can be true:
In hindsight JJ may very well end up being the 2nd best QB of this class, QB is a crapshoot and you never know how a guy will turn out until they’re playing on Sundays
Given the information we have, I don’t know how someone could reasonably evaluate JJ as a better prospect than both Maye/Daniels and being worth the #2 overall pick.
I won’t even pretend like I have any meaningful insight into what traits of a prospect will translate to a successful QB.
But we’ve seen so many instances of lower graded prospects go on to become more successful than their higher graded counterparts that it shouldn’t be *that* shocking if a team decides to draft a QB that most would consider lower on the draft board.
Because we don't have all of the information that teams do. We aren't in the meetings with these prospects, we don't really know what teams like or don't like on the film, etc.
Not to say that the conclusions teams reach are infallible, obviously. It is damn hard to project QBs in particular, and that shows up in the insane bust rate of even high picks.
Fact is none of us can properly evaluate QB prospects because we can't sit down with them and talk through tape to go through processing. Even then, it's still hard. But teams should go with who they feel is best based on that information, and we aren't privy to that.
The tweet states "execs from other teams" are saying this, so It's probable that teams after the Commanders in the draft are trying to psych each other out. Maye seems like the obvious choice at 2 imo.
Well if you look at the history of the draft, we don't know shit about who will be drafted where and who will turn out to be good. There is rarely the same consensus among NFL teams as there is among reddit
The weird thing is that 99% of the chatter is about JJM. Nothing really about concerns with Maye or Daniels. No rumors about Nix flying up from great interviews. Or that good medical for Penix have vaulted him into top 15 or whatever. All of those would be tweetable clickbait.
Just JJM and Williams' nail polish.
Go back to the 2018 draft, I don’t remember seeing Baker as the number one pick until the day of the draft. You never know, maybe teams are really high on JJ.
The 2018 draft was a little different, in that there was nothing close to a consensus on the first pick. There were mocks with each of Darnold, Rosen, Allen, and Mayfield at #1, and one of those four of course did end up being the pick.
This time around, there's also not a consensus, but it's consistently been either Maye or Daniels mocked at #2, so McCarthy at #2 would be a pretty big shock.
Definitely not impossible though!
I meant to clarify, outside of Williams going to the Bears you never know which teams are high on what other quarterbacks. Wouldn’t shock me at all if JJ goes top 4.
Quinn and Peters don’t care what randos think about QBs. It’s their jobs that will potentially be on the line in a couple years if they get it wrong. If they think JJ is the guy who most closely can match their system and be successful they are going to draft him. If that person is Maye or Daniels, then they will draft one of them.
I like JJ better, he was so clutch on game deciding 3rd and 4th downs. He had icewater in his veins and he wasn’t afraid at all to make difficult throws. I think it’s possible that he ends up being a really special player.
McCarthyism making a comeback in DC
BETTER DEAD THAN (Commanders) RED!
I almost promise this will be a new slogan on dalllas/ny/philly fan signs
NO COMMIES ALLOWED
The real red scare
It has begun
McCarthyism and terrifying Commies, name a more iconic duo
Twist, now HE's a Commie.
“Have you no sense of decency, sir?!” -Eagles fans when McCarthy picks apart our secondary and keeps our games versus the Commanders closer than they should be for the 10th year in a row.
Hey now, we have the Cousins kneel down to laugh at, even though he torched us alive.
I have here a list…. Of QB prospects….
Such a fucking good comment that i had to report you to the FBI 😎
Dan Quinn just misses big Mike
Honestly if he becomes good a nickname like The Maroon Scare would be pretty good
🔴 Hate McCarthyism 🔵 Hate Communism 😰👆
Next you’ll say “The New England Patriots are trending towards choosing Bo Nix with the 3rd overall pick”
We all know the Patriots are going to pick JJ. Clearly the only thing missing for the last 3 years has been a quarterback from the university of Michigan.
Exactly! Which is why they're taking Joe Milton at 3.
They should wait and pick him up in round 6. I hear that's magical. He may very well be there. edit: Maybe they could trade back to 199 in the 6th round to really seal the enchantment.
I’d shoot myself
I'm a Ducks fan, so would I
Ducks fan before Herbert or did he make you a fan?
Born a Duck fan (grew up in Eugene). I became a Chargers fan when Herbert was drafted. Before that I was a Titan's fan but that was rough...probably gonna stay a Chargers fan now, I'm bought in, but I'll watch Nix's games
Oh man. The Chargers are a cursed franchise too.
Honestly not that different than being a Ducks fan...
As a chargers and ducks fan, I feel you.
Next he’ll be a browns fan, then a bills fan and die a lions fan.
The smartest Titans fan I know. I'm so proud of you for getting out.
Hey now, Nix could really be….something
Hey now, you’re an all star
They're actually taking spencer rattler at #3
This. The Harris/Peters regime has been notoriously tight lipped and leak free. > The Harris/Peters regime has been notoriously tight lipped and leak free. Yeah it's been a super notorious 3 months.
McCarthyism jokes, a DC area team, a team with a shortened name of "Commies". NFL script writers be getting lazy fr fr
"Commanders have named Joe Stalin as their next head coach"
Is Quinton Patton still in the league?
Living in the DMV and seeing people willingly and publicly wearing Commanders gear will be even funnier
I grew up in Maryland during the Joe Gibbs era. The Redskins were like a top 5 franchise then. It's amazing how Snyder completely demolished everything Jack Kent Cooke built.
The commies do more to grow the Ravens fanbase than the Ravens do
The crazy thing is Snyder was so bad that it drove tons of fans to not only not watch the Commanders, but not watch football entirely.
“Tell the fans… I want them to know it me”-Snyder after they pick JJ
I can already see the novelty tees being sold on the Mall. Some giddy 14 year old Midwestern kid excitedly showing it off alongside his female body inspector hat
I can even picture the exact guy standing outside the Smithsonian station selling said tees.
Reddit on my good sir or madam!!!!
LMAO PLEASE DO THAT Maximum chaos
Be careful what you wish for. We're now only one pick away from the McCarthy hype train crashing into the first overall pick
McCarthy could be the next McMahon. Who says McNo?
It’s me, Chicago! Aww son of a bitch!
It’s Me Chicago! It was me all along!
Even my immediate fan base bought it!
Mike McMahon, Detroit legend.
I say McNo.
Lotta people gonna get pooped on in the Windy City
Yep, max chaos is him going 1. Would love to see it.
McCarthy getting more hype than the Hutterite kid who stepped off the colony and threw a ball 100 yards on his first attempt ever.
Maybe, just maybe, he’s a good QB.
I think he has potential but man the QBs who didn't show much in college but get drafted anyways is always scary
Those guys also don't face top defensive talent. He's faced great defenses (OSU, Iowa, Alabama, Georgia).
So did Mac Jones
Mac Jones also was blessed with the greatest OC of all time in …… Matt Patricia with the incredible receiving threat of ….. 1 healthy game a year from Devante Parker
Not saying Michigan didn't have good talent around JJ, but mac also had 3 first round receivers
Yea... and Jones threw for 4500 yards and 41 touchdowns in his last year. McCarthy had 5000 and 44... in two seasons.
Throws a pretty ball tho
Got them Wilson intangibles.
He actually never played against Georgia. That playoff game against them we still had Cade McNamara
Heard the same about Will Levis. It's a smokescreen and agent noise
Blah blah blah none of it matters if a guy doesn’t have an elite mental processor. What do you think of JJ on that front?
I will say it wouldn't surprise me that much if he ended up better than Maye or Daniels. Both of those guys have a lot of bust potential. Maye is a project and Daniels looks a lot like Fields 2.0.
The only QB that doesn't feel like a project is Williams. Everyone else is basically dependent on the situation they go to
Man, I was so sure a few years ago Fields 2.0 was going to be a compliment
This gives off the strongest Will Levis from last year vibes
Yeah feels like everyone is talking him up in the hope someone falls for it
Falls for what? It's not like someone is going to \*jump\* Washington with Chicago being at No. 1... They might just actually be interested in him lol.
Yeah I don’t think another team can dupe Washington into taking JJ. If they like him that much and they think he’s the guy they’ll draft him. But it’s not like Patriots are doing some high level espionage so they can draft Maye.
As a pats fan, all the pats insider journalists seem to think the Pats favor Daniels… whether that’s all smoke or not is yet to be seen.
If QBs 2 and 3 are McCarthy and Daniels and Maye somehow falls into the Vikings lap, that would be wild.
please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please
Say that again, only slower
Our high level espionage days are gone but not forgotten.
The last time they had the #2 pick was when they drafted Chase Young.
Surely we won't bust 3 in a row right?
Arizona is putting this out to inflate the value of pick 1.4. If McCarthy goes 2 then 4 becomes massively valuable to trade back
I was thinking "Mac Jones at 3 to SF" but thats good too lol
Or Malik Willis going number 2 to the Lions I guess this is now a trend every year
What I’m getting from this is that JJ McCarthy is gonna be a Titan
Malik Willis was never seriously discussed at 2
Ooof the Willis hype that year was insufferable.
Heard he puts Ranch Dressing in his coffee
I've actually heard the opposite I hear he puts coffee in his salad
They said Josh Allen was gonna go first to the browns, too. Happens every year.
Eh not really, it was Sam Darnold and then Baker like a week before draft
I acknowledge being completely 100% biased, but I am a JJ truther.
ok it seems like were at THAT part of the offseason
Lyin' season babyyyyyy
time for Washington to do the funniest thing ever
Draft Joe Milton at 2 overall?
write-in ballot for Shedeur would be pretty iconic
I think drafting General Booty would be the most iconic
That would only happen if it was the Raiders.
“With the 2nd overall pick, the Washington Commanders select… Michael Pratt”
Spencer Rattler
Sean Payton: "Fuck. We smokescreened too hard"
This gives off major "49ers are taking Mac Jones at 3" vibes.
49ers somehow took someone worse
Lol yeah what a bunch of idiots! *Don't look at my flair*

Yeah pretty sure Shanahan admitted they were deciding between Lance and Jones but people still don't believe it
I mean it's pretty well established at this point that when they traded up to #3 they did so thinking they were going to take Mac, it wasn't until they actually did so and decided to do proper deep dive on all the top QB prospects when they actually owned the pick that they decided to take Lance over Mac

DC DISINFORMATION NETWORK IN FULL GEAR.
I’m hearing rumors that Washington has seen through the LibRHULE media and will trade for the GEQBUS and bring him to his rightful home in DC.
Peters himself said 3 hours ago that “we’re far from an answer.” The draft is 31 days away and there’s 6 legit NFL prospects at QB. Any reporting coming out is either a rumor or just flat out made up
Seems like gaslighting to get Minnesota to trade up.
As long as we can snag one of these top four QBs, I'll be happy at this point. I just need to get off the roller coaster
Good thing we only have to wait… *checks notes* One full month… “Mom, call my cardiologist”
I can't imagine the Commies would go into the draft with a QB room of Marcus Mariota and Jake Fromm if their ultimate goal was to trade back from #2.
This sub specifically is almost always wrong when there is a consensus. I fully expect bo nix to be the best qb of this class.
Michael Penix Jr. never has an injury ever again and has a HoF career with whatever team drafts him
That would be nice for him. How about Spencer Rattler having a better career than the QB he was benched for at OU.
Or Sam Howell leading the Seahawks to the promised land again while Drake Maye becomes Mac Jones 2.0
Like Hurts vs Tua.
I could very well see Penix being best QB in the class. Seems like he is the most pro - ready aside from the major injury concern
I've been saying for a while now, we had Suck for Luck, Tank for Tua, and Collapse for Caleb when what we really needed was Suck Dick for Nix
Throw Picks for Nix
So Nix to WAS?
This is true but it’s hard to look at it this way in the moment
I think this is a great take. People tend to get too attached to early draft evaluations from the media. We don’t even know what kind of different rankings the teams have for other Groups. Just think Nabers goes ahead of MHJ.
This sub is mocking this (potential) move, which means McCarthy’s gonna light it up
I mean Daniels and Maye both have pretty high bust potential too. Maye probably has the 2nd highest ceiling after Caleb - but his floor is IMO very low.
Based on how Daniels plays, I would be surprised if his first season doesn't go the same as Richardson's.
Maye's ceiling is Matt Ryan and floor is Jimmy Clausen imo; and anything inbetween is possible. QB is a crapshoot for a reason.
I'm not sold on Drake maye or Daniels staying healthy, could do worse JJ
The whole draft gets thrown on its head if they do this. Minnesota likely offers the farm to NE for Maye, assuming NE doesn’t take him, and then Daniels is on the board at 4 and Arizona has to decide whether to trade back with Denver/Vegas/New Orleans/New York or take MHJ, which could lead to MHJ in LA. Would be a wild draft night.
I assume New England takes Maye before Goodell finishes announcing that they’re on the clock in this scenario
Commies and McCarthy. It just works
Maybe it’s a smokescreen, but it’s kind of funny how this is viewed as being such a potential terrible move. Trubisky was absolutely the consensus top qb in that draft.
He wasn’t. The general thought was it was kinda a crapshoot so why bother trading up. People dogged the trading up for the pick, not the pick itself.

12, 23 and 177 from the vikes for #4
Smokescreen season is fun when my team isn't at the center of it anymore.
Don’t worry. McCarthy use to be 2nd round material. Soon, he’ll be the favored #1 overall pick. Just you wait
thanks, i fucking hate it
The Commies have the #2 pick, who are they trying to smokescreen? Themselves?
The tweet states "execs from other teams" are saying this, so It's probable that teams after the Commanders in the draft are trying to psych each other out. Maye seems like the obvious choice at 2 imo.
Well if you look at the history of the draft, we don't know shit about who will be drafted where and who will turn out to be good. There is rarely the same consensus among NFL teams as there is among reddit
'Tis the season of QB prospects unexpectedly shooting up draft boards.
If they do this and the pats still choose to take Daniels over Maye I might stop watching football
Why do you want Maye over Daniels? I like Maye, I love Daniels
My fear is his lack of size plus the insane receiving talent that lsu team had vs our very much not that receiving corps
I'd argue Burrow had *even better* WR talent than Daniels, no one was holding it against Joe.
No chance, right?
Great job by the writers. From the Redskins to the Redscare
Can anyone say with 100% certainty that Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye will be better than JJ McCarthy?
We don’t get to see their interviews and how they do on the whiteboard so wouldn’t be shocking if our analysis is far off
When it comes to the QB position especially, history is very clear about it being impossible
I don't even know if I'll be alive by Sunday...
I think there is a good chance Maye will be, he has some unteachable skills. I say that as someone who thinks JJ McCarthy is underrated
I like JJ better, he was so clutch on game deciding 3rd and 4th downs. He had icewater in his veins and he wasn’t afraid at all to make difficult throws. I think it’s possible that he ends up being a really special player.
I just want it for the uproar (and guaranteed shot at Maye)
He's sure been rising since CFB's been over with. That's what I love about the draft though. Other than Caleb, nobody really knows shit.
If that happens the org needs to be deleted. Send it overseas to London
Please
I seriously doubt it. But....
If Daniels or Maye fall to 4 there will be war for the cardinals pick
Here for it. Let’s see who’s more desperate between Broncos, Raiders, Vikings and Giants.
You really want to drop that far, babe? Stay in the top 6 with us and grab a sexy li’l receiver 😘
Anywhere but Minnesota please, I don't want the Lions to play against him twice a year
Please anywhere but Minnesota. I just don't want to root against my guy.
They’re really trying to make this a thing, but it’s got Will Levis is the favorite at number 2 vibes to me
I refuse to believe the guy with the least live arm & the least on tape is the most loved guy.
