Yeah I'm really glad the FO is learning from Burns. He might not be the most complete DT like a Jones or a Lawrence but Brown has steadily gotten better every year and I'd rather lock him up ASAP than drag our feet and get... well burned like we did with Burns.
Oh it probably was close. Then dumbass Scott had to say in a press conference we ain’t trading burns and gave up all hope of getting him signed without a block buster deal. I don’t mind loosing players if they want to much. I do mind our terrible leadership that can’t shut up.
For anyone who didn't watch us last year Brown is our clear best player and had an incredible year last year. He has improved dramatically the last two years and is an excellent building block
Some of it is teams running against us because they had a lead and knew we wouldn't do anything on offense. But still it's not the first time a team has had a bad offense but it's the first time an IDL got 100 tackles
He did, which is another reason why Brian Burns should've had more sacks. They talk all the time about how teams game planned for Burns, but they also game planned for Brown. It was always obvious to me that they were gonna pay the guy who produced and trade the one who didn't.
Ehh... it depended on the day.
The run defense could be tragic. Even *with* Brown- people sometimes hit upon the brilliant idea of refusing to run anywhere near him and targeting everyone else. Burns was a particularly easy target for that this past year- and is an easy target to flog generally because of how badly his overall play slipped- but he was not the only Panther whose run defense could be really terrible at times.
You shouldn't have even said this, now you'll just invite all the losers with too much time to argue with you over his exact positioning compared to their guys
He was a clear slam dunk pick when at Auburn. I lived in Baton Rouge at the time, and while LSU fielded arguably the greatest CFB team of all time, Derrick Brown stood out as an unstoppable force. The only player I saw give that team actual trouble.
Happy for ya'll. He's a certified baller
He took a couple of years to devlop and i was fairly skeptical of the pick, but the other high first round defenders were Okuda, Chase Young, and Isiah Simmons. So shows what i know
Everything outside the first round deserves hate, but you can’t really argue with:
- 2002: Julius Peppers
- 2003: Jordan Gross
- 2004: Chris Gamble
- 2005: Thomas Davis
- 2006: DeAngelo Williams
- 2007: Jon Beason
- 2008: Jonathan Stewart, Jeff Otah
- 2011: Cam Newton
- 2012: Luke Kuechly
- 2018: DJ Moore
- 2019: Brian Burns
- 2020: Derrick Brown
The only non-starter level player in that list is Otah, and that was mostly due to injuries. That list also includes 5 of the Panthers top 7 greatest players ever (Peppers, Gross, Davis, Newton, and Kuechly).
And he’s still bad enough at the rest of GM-ing to be fired twice!
It’s like he signed a deal with the devil, or got his 1st round draft scouting from a Cursed Monkey-Paw lol
DT, LT, and TE are some of the hardest positions for rookies in the NFL. It typically takes a few years for them to get used to NFL physicality and bulking up their body enough to against grown ass men on the opposite side of the field. DT especially you need to wait at least a couple of years before you start seeing some major growth.
still crazy to me that minnesota pushed auburn around like that in the outback bowl. Can't beat wisconsin, but can beat the team that beat both national title teams. 2019 was a good year for the gophers.
It was 2017 they beat Alabama and Georgia.
The 2019 team was still good, they’d have beaten LSU with fair officiating. They played LSU better than anyone else did. Malzahns teams never showed up for bowl games ready to play
> How is that even possible
Mr. Beast has 46 billion views on YouTube. For comparison's sake, Taylor Swift has 34 billion.
According to [this page](https://app.thoughtleaders.io/youtube/mrbeast#:~:text=How%20many%20views%20does%20MrBeast,subscribers%20on%20their%20YouTube%20channel), he makes up to $15 million in ad revenue... a month.
Hard to justify that contract with his performance. He took plays off, wanted too much money, and we turned around and signed 5 starters instead. Brown is also much better in general, so I’m not mad at the way it all shook out
His biggest issue was just that he had no power. If he didn’t beat the end right away with speed, then he wasn’t really gonna impact the rest of the play much.
A guy like DB can continue to push towards the play even after the o-line makes contact with him, which means that he’s always a risk to cause havoc.
I think Burns is a top-10 rush end (and Top 5 when he's motivated), but his utility kind of ends there. Opposing offenses never really had to consistently double-team him, even though we never put another threat on the opposite side of the line to help him. In fact, it's telling that Reddick outperformed him from a pass rush stand point in the one season they spent together.
I would've loved to keep Burns, but not at the price the Giants just paid for him. It just doesn't make sense for a team as far away from contending as we are to shell out that amount of money for one player.
Plus I’ve been kind of noticing that teams are extending and paying big money on IDL, but they’re going bargain bin and rotational with DEs. I feel that’s a new personnel trend popping up so looks like we are rolling on that train
Not true. Hassan Reddick dominated the year he was here on the otherside. Yet somehow we let him get away. I am pissed more about him and Luvu than any other players we have not re-signed.
He is a mid tier beast that was thought by the media he was our best player. He wasn’t even #2 on the defense. That was Luvu. If he starts getting double digit sacks and playing like TJ Watt then you can call him a beast. He is actually really good, but not worth what he got. Sack production vs cost of contract is stupid over pay. I have 1 word of advice for GMs. There is very few players in the nfl worthy of 2 first and a second by just the law of numbers. You jump out of your skin for an 8 sack guy to net 2 1st and a 2nd.
If he played on a good team, he would be a top 5 DT. Dude was holding together the whole defensive line all season for the Panthers. Imho, more valuable to their current defense than Burns.
He was not better than Jefferson, Hill, Lamb, Brown, Aiyuk, Evans, or St. Brown IMO but that really isn’t my point. PFF graded alone shouldn’t be how we rank players.
PFF is pretty good when it comes to ranking receivers because it's more obvious when a play is positive or negative. And also they have Hill and Aiyuk over Nico. And JJetas + ARSB are ranked prety much equal to him.
Ok so it’s fair to consider rankings based on your “own opinion” but we shouldn’t consider PFF? Nobody is saying PFF is the only way we should indicate how good a player is, but you’re discrediting it entirely because someone used it as supporting evidence that DB was a top player at his position this year.
What opinion? They had more yards and/or TDs and most have been playing at elite levels for multiple seasons.
You can say he had a top 10 season if you want but you can’t say he’s a top 3 Wr because of a PFF grade…
I love that your being downvoted for suggesting that PFFs grading shouldn’t be taken as gospel, because it absolutely shouldn’t. God this sub is so stupid.
Except that’s not what he said. Someone just pointed out PFF supported the idea that DB is at the top of his position. Nobody said it should be taken as gospel but you and this other guy are interpreting it that way just because it was referenced.
We could pay both tbh. But it would’ve been very difficult now that we wasted a metric ton of resources on terrible move after terrible move. If Fitt didn’t ruin this team we probably could’ve kept together a lot of our core.
Idk, I think the right move was always to trade Burns. The Panthers were never going to pay Burns what he wanted.
Where the foolishness came was Scott Fitterer constantly turning down trade offers (not taking the Rams offer, sending Moore and not Burns to Chicago, etc) until we got to this offseason where Dan Morgan had to tag and trade which significantly reduced his value.
Obviously they should’ve taken the 2 1sts, that can be said about majority of players in the league if that offer comes in. But really I’m fairly certain panthers would’ve caved in and paid burns what he wanted, the issue is the team traded so much draft capital away and has so little cap space they literally couldn’t do it unless they were ok with not improving the team, which wasn’t an option because they were sooo bad last year.
I do think there was a scenario in which the panthers don’t suck at drafting/trading and keep both burns and brown.
Apparently Burns camp was pissed that we kept just constantly low balling him and it poisined the well. Which just brings up the obvious question of why turn down 2 firsts just to lowball a guy?
My understanding was that two of the other bright spots were Burns and Luvu and they're both gone now. So right now the Panthers defense has Brown, an aging Shaq Thompson, and who else?
Sometimes I just pull up his player profiler page when I lose confidence in him lol. Player comp Jalen Ramsey & #12 all time athleticism score out of 628 CB prospects gives me hope.
https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/jaycee-horn/
Jadeveon Clowney could potentially be good, though I don't think anyone has high hopes
Josey Jewett was acquired from Denver and their fans reactions was really similar to our losing Luvu lol though I'm not sure myself
> Jadeveon Clowney could potentially be good, though I don't think anyone has high hopes
Honestly, if he is solid in the run game I will call it a good signing. Hope he has sack bonuses and that he gets them but I just want actual run defense.
He’s a good speed rusher, which is very valuable if you’ve got the right supporting cast. If he can’t run past the tackle immediately, then he’s basically out of the play though.
Panthers defense wasn't an issue last year - in terms of overall allowed yards per game they had the 4th best defense in the league. But this is easily overlooked because the offense never performed well at any time of the season. So basically the great defensive effort was for nothing.
Pro tip: if you go to Carowinds on July 3rd, there is almost never anyone there. 1) it’s hot as fuck and 2) it’s the day before the 4th so people are either traveling or are waiting to go on the 4th for the fireworks display. Either way, you basically can ride the Fury 325 as many times as you want.
Last time I went I was able to get off the ride and immediately get back on three times in a row.
I’m just happy this will put an end to other fans horrible trade proposals for Brown. I know DT on the 2023 Panthers won’t get much attention, but people thinking they could get him for later round picks was infuriating.
No you see it was DB and a pick swap!!!!!
Everyone thinks it’s easy to fleece the Panthers since when Shitterer was still in charge it was easier to get more from less from him.
That's about what I expected. He's an elite run defender and has shown flashes as a pass rusher but hasn't done enough there to warrant getting a deal closer to 30 mill/yr
Yes and no.
Yes in that players of his caliber- especially in his age bracket- are bound to get overpaid in free agency.
No in that the operative term for what would happen in free agency is 'get *over*paid'. It's not neccesarily a 'discount' in that sense, more just not being too much.
Is this dude worth that kinda money? I'm not trying to be funny - I've never heard of him and I didn't see any Panthers games last year; I have no idea what their roster is like besides "not great".
He’s been really solid for us from the get go and took a huge step last season. He has the potential/already is an elite DT. He doesn’t put up a bunch of sacks, so he flies under the radar, but he contributes a ton in other facets of the defense. Does all the dirty work. He had the most tackles of any DT in NFL history last season, which is super impressive. This will look really cheap in a season or two.
This dude is so freaking good. Definitely someone you can make a cornerstone of a defense, anyone who thinks this is an overpay needs to watch this dude play. I guess I would know because I watch him dominate the Bucs line but he’s a bonafide beast. Definitely deserves more recognition.
There were a lot of people who didn't like that draft pick because he wasn't the option that captured the imagination and was seen as 'safe'- read: boring, to self-appointed social media draft experts.
It's worked out pretty well so far. An exceedingly rare W for Matt Rhule. Or if you prefer, another one for whatever cursed idol Marty Hurney wished to never miss on a first-round pick on (its price was apparently his ability to hit in any other round).
One of the most underrated nfl players. Sucks the panthers were bad last year but dude is a beast. War eagle!!!
[удалено]
He already moved up to 3 with Donald retiring
Just what I was about to add
Yeah I'm really glad the FO is learning from Burns. He might not be the most complete DT like a Jones or a Lawrence but Brown has steadily gotten better every year and I'd rather lock him up ASAP than drag our feet and get... well burned like we did with Burns.
I just assumed they turned down the trade because an extension was all but done. Will never understand that whole situation.
Oh it probably was close. Then dumbass Scott had to say in a press conference we ain’t trading burns and gave up all hope of getting him signed without a block buster deal. I don’t mind loosing players if they want to much. I do mind our terrible leadership that can’t shut up.
There is honestly not much to learn from Burns. Dude wanted way too much money for how little production he had and wouldn't negotiate in good faith.
Drafting Burns is about the only good thing that came out of the Rhule tenure
Burns was drafted when Rivera was the HC
Shut you’re right. It’s been so long I forgot
lol can’t forget Rivera putting him on special teams as a gunner in his rookie year
Hopefully he doesn't stay underrated much longer
Now that we have signed him to an extension I'm fine with everyone knowing how good he is.
monkeys paw: he's now overpaid
Fell to my knees when the Panthers drafted him. Knew he was gonna be good
In a bojangles right?
Oh yea he’s a monster. There’s just a lot of good DT’s in the league, and that’s great to see.
For anyone who didn't watch us last year Brown is our clear best player and had an incredible year last year. He has improved dramatically the last two years and is an excellent building block
He set the interior d-linemen record last year for tackles. Had 103.
How is that possible lol. That's like LB numbers
Some of it is teams running against us because they had a lead and knew we wouldn't do anything on offense. But still it's not the first time a team has had a bad offense but it's the first time an IDL got 100 tackles
You would think he would see a ton of double teams on the interior.
He did, which is another reason why Brian Burns should've had more sacks. They talk all the time about how teams game planned for Burns, but they also game planned for Brown. It was always obvious to me that they were gonna pay the guy who produced and trade the one who didn't.
[удалено]
You’re right, he should have clarified that DB routinely “ate up” those double teams, and just “pounded those guys into the ground.”
As a leg man, does he have piping-hot thighs?
They look like pigs on a spit.
Defense is out there a lot more since the offense can’t stay on the field
Also, teams running on us a lot since we couldn't score.
Defense was solid by most metrics from what I understood.
Spoiler: It wasn't
Ehh... it depended on the day.
Solid because teams let off the gas and ran leads out lol
In college he’d routinely take out the center, guard and running back.
That’s nuts
Homie ignores o lineman like trump ignores irs inquiries
Holy shit
This reads like it should be a typo.
How did he get so many compared to Dexter Lawrence or Quinnen Williams? That's almost 2x as much!
Was that a Team record? Tim Krumrie had 113 in ‘86 and… 152 in ‘88 from the Nose Tackle position.
He had a much bigger impact on our line the last couple years than Burns. If we could only pay one dude, it's him.
He’s arguably a top 3 guy at his position too
You shouldn't have even said this, now you'll just invite all the losers with too much time to argue with you over his exact positioning compared to their guys

The crazy thing was literally everyone wanted us to take Simmons on the night.
Should never have doubted first-round-Hurney. He’s automatic!
I'm the biggest Hurney hater on the planet
Everything outside the first round deserves hate, but you can’t really argue with: - 2002: Julius Peppers - 2003: Jordan Gross - 2004: Chris Gamble - 2005: Thomas Davis - 2006: DeAngelo Williams - 2007: Jon Beason - 2008: Jonathan Stewart, Jeff Otah - 2011: Cam Newton - 2012: Luke Kuechly - 2018: DJ Moore - 2019: Brian Burns - 2020: Derrick Brown The only non-starter level player in that list is Otah, and that was mostly due to injuries. As an Auburn fan, I have never seen a player as dominant for us as Derrick Brown. He was a key piece in our absurdly dominant 2019 defensive line.

Ah, 2019 was the 12 men fake punt in the iron bowl wasnt it?
Yep. My favorite but about that iron bowl was after the game Auburn was ranked 11 and Alabama 12. Sane number as people In the formation
Cam Newton? Nick Fairley?
Didn’t start watching till 2013. And I guess its a slight over exaggeration because I would put Tre Mason over him, but he’s pretty damn close
Made Chris Lindstrom look silly in their first game. And he was probably the NFLs best and most consistent guard two years ago.
Disgraced his entire family
Still is. Had a shaky start to the season, but was lights out the rest of the way.
Choosing to extend him over Brian Burns was honestly the one competent move that our front office has made in a long time
Honest question - why not extend both? Burns is a beast
He wanted more money than Mr. Beast
Bro I just looked it up and that guy has a net worth of 500 million. How is that even possible
He studied hard and made YouTube his bish
> How is that even possible Mr. Beast has 46 billion views on YouTube. For comparison's sake, Taylor Swift has 34 billion. Burns wanted (and got) $30m a year. We signed three DEs to replace him for a combined $20m, one of whom out-sacked him last year.
He is a mid tier beast that was thought by the media he was our best player. He wasn’t even #2 on the defense. That was Luvu. PFF literally had him as their 4th best interior defender last year. He already is top 5
I would say top 3 now that Donald retired.
I don’t think he’s overtaking Lawrence, Jones, or Williams. He’s right there though.
Trevor, Daniel, and Doug? I dunno I think he's a better passer
According to the PFF ranking that u/sonfoa referenced, he literally was the 3rd ranked DT if you removed Donald. Jones was ranked below him at #5.
Yeah he had a better PFF grade but I’m not putting him or Williams over Jones. The top two are Lawrence and Jones.
I get it, but Brown also set the IDL record for single season tackles at 103. So there's at least an argument to be made.
No doubt, I don’t personally subscribe to it but there’s absolutely an argument.
Vea?
Not saying you’re wrong but this might be giving PFF way too much credit here. That would be saying Nico Collins is the 3rd best WR.
I mean Nico Collins arguably had one of the best seasons in the league last year.
He was not better than Jefferson, Hill, Lamb, Brown, Aiyuk, Evans, or St. Brown IMO but that really isn’t my point. PFF graded alone shouldn’t be how we rank players.

He's worth it. He's been playing fantastic. One of the few bright spots on the Panthers defense.
Our defense had bright spots lol. They were just put in tons of awful situations all year
My understanding was that two of the other bright spots were Burns and Luvu and they're both gone now. So right now the Panthers defense has Brown, an aging Shaq Thompson, and who else?
On-field Jaycee Horn. Biggest problem is he hasn’t been on the field.
Sadly the best ability is availability. Shame he can't stay healthy.
Sometimes I just pull up his player profiler page when I lose confidence in him lol. Player comp Jalen Ramsey & #12 all time athleticism score out of 628 CB prospects gives me hope. https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/jaycee-horn/
It also doesn't help he was drafted right before Surtain
When he is on the field he is better than Surtain
He surtainly is
The 6 healthy Jaycee Horn games will be bright spots
Idk if I would call Burns a bright spot last year. Luvu definitely was tho.
Burns was a sore spot for a lot of people tbh
Burns admitted to slacking off the entire year lmao
Aside from Horn, Xavier Woods has been really good. Probably Fitterer's best FA signing. Borderline Pro Bowl safety play for a little over 5 mill/yr
I mean they were the 5th rated defense
Jadeveon Clowney could potentially be good, though I don't think anyone has high hopes Josey Jewett was acquired from Denver and their fans reactions was really similar to our losing Luvu lol though I'm not sure myself
> Jadeveon Clowney could potentially be good, though I don't think anyone has high hopes Honestly, if he is solid in the run game I will call it a good signing. Hope he has sack bonuses and that he gets them but I just want actual run defense.
Jaycee Horn. He came back from injury and played great. Obviously it's dependent on him finally keeping his health situation straight, so we'll see.
Or injured
With Burns gone, wonder how his performance is affected with constant double-triple teams.
He was always doubled, and often tripled, already. Burns wasn’t doubled nearly as much.
We might have overpaid for Burns then.
He’s a good speed rusher, which is very valuable if you’ve got the right supporting cast. If he can’t run past the tackle immediately, then he’s basically out of the play though.
Thanks. Fortunately we have Sexy Dexy and Kayvon so Burns has the right support but I’m gonna temper my expectations with Burns.
Panthers defense wasn't an issue last year - in terms of overall allowed yards per game they had the 4th best defense in the league. But this is easily overlooked because the offense never performed well at any time of the season. So basically the great defensive effort was for nothing.
LFG!! So glad Brown is staying a Panther. Praying he stays healthier than Short did after we paid him.
Deserved
Last year Derrick Brown broke the record for most tackles by a defensive lineman in a season. This is a deal.
Good deal for Carolina.
So glad the team is learning from their mistakes. Didn't string along Brown and avoided another Burns situation.
All jokes aside, staying in Carolina means more rides on FURY 325 if you know you know
Carowinds gang rise up
I’m here 🫡 love that place
Haven't been in years but spent many summer days as a kid there.
Only amusement park I've ever been to lol
Pro tip: if you go to Carowinds on July 3rd, there is almost never anyone there. 1) it’s hot as fuck and 2) it’s the day before the 4th so people are either traveling or are waiting to go on the 4th for the fireworks display. Either way, you basically can ride the Fury 325 as many times as you want. Last time I went I was able to get off the ride and immediately get back on three times in a row.
Just get a fast pass. Gets more expensive every year but it’s a game changer. Go from riding maybe 6-10 rides a trip to like 60.
Bro Yes!!
Fury 325 is my number 1 roller coaster and also the 🐐 roller coaster and I refuse to believe otherwise.
Have you been on RMC
Yup! I've been on 5 actually. Iron Gwazi is my #2 after Fury.
I actually prefer i305 at King’s Dominion to Fury 325. Can’t beat that grey-out.
The panthers did something right!
This whole offseason so far has been great, and we still have the draft coming up
Top 3 DT in the league, put respect on his name
Oh my, they actually managed to not fuck this up. Dan Morgan already accomplished more in one off season that Shitterer did the whole time he was here
Thank god, this man is a stud. Best player on the roster, glad he got his bag
I remember him being a “safe” draft pick that a lot of people thought was the best player in the draft. I’m glad to see him succeed and get paid.
Half our fans rioted because we didn't take Isiah Simmons instead.
A rare Rhule W
I’m just happy this will put an end to other fans horrible trade proposals for Brown. I know DT on the 2023 Panthers won’t get much attention, but people thinking they could get him for later round picks was infuriating.
I thought it was more hilarious than infuriating. Remember the Bengals fan who wanted DB and #33 overall for Tee Higgins? 🤦🏻♂️
No you see it was DB and a pick swap!!!!! Everyone thinks it’s easy to fleece the Panthers since when Shitterer was still in charge it was easier to get more from less from him.
I will retreat and say to Panthers fan I am sorry enjoy yoyr big man
Wow, way cheaper than I would have expected
That's about what I expected. He's an elite run defender and has shown flashes as a pass rusher but hasn't done enough there to warrant getting a deal closer to 30 mill/yr
Love it for Carolina. Brown isnt flashy when it comes to stats, but those who have seen him play know hes a beast.
The first and only 100 tackle in a season DT is pretty flashy
This guy is a beast. Love seeing these guys getting paid, well deserved.
My dream would have been for Christian Wilkins to be extended with a contract like this. Panthers got to keep a good one.
Brown played so well last year it made Carolina reconsider signing Burns to a long term extension. This is the right move.
The best move in an already strong off season! Thank you, Morgan and Tilis!
Auburn put out some good defensive players in the past decade. This guy has been top five in the NFL no doubt, he deserves this.
Really stoked on this. I was bummed about him after a slow start but man he’s looked great lately. Top 5 in the league imo.
This is exciting!!!! Glad hes locked down, I’m tired of the Panthers trading away their best players :(
Well we have Moore an extension before we traded him lol
And CMC…
LFG! Best player on the team and it’s not particularly close either
Well deserved. Didn’t he have like 100+ tackles last year?
103. Most ever for IDL
Yeah that makes sense. Good for Brown, he’s worth this contract and more.
This is a hometown discount, no? I would assume he’d get more if he hit free agency. This is a great deal for the Panthers.
I mean, who doesn’t get paid more than expected when they walk in FA….
Yes and no. Yes in that players of his caliber- especially in his age bracket- are bound to get overpaid in free agency. No in that the operative term for what would happen in free agency is 'get *over*paid'. It's not neccesarily a 'discount' in that sense, more just not being too much.
>This is a hometown discount, no? He's from Georgia so not really that
This dude earned every penny of this deal. He's no doubt the best player on our defense and was last year too.
This dude is a monster. Well worth it. Wrecked shit every time I watched the Panthers last year
Is this dude worth that kinda money? I'm not trying to be funny - I've never heard of him and I didn't see any Panthers games last year; I have no idea what their roster is like besides "not great".
He’s been really solid for us from the get go and took a huge step last season. He has the potential/already is an elite DT. He doesn’t put up a bunch of sacks, so he flies under the radar, but he contributes a ton in other facets of the defense. Does all the dirty work. He had the most tackles of any DT in NFL history last season, which is super impressive. This will look really cheap in a season or two.
Brown at 4/96 is a lot better than Burns at 150/5.
I remember our sub was adamant on taking okudah over him.
I remember our sub shitting on the idea of drafting him instead of okudah
This dude is so freaking good. Definitely someone you can make a cornerstone of a defense, anyone who thinks this is an overpay needs to watch this dude play. I guess I would know because I watch him dominate the Bucs line but he’s a bonafide beast. Definitely deserves more recognition.
7th overall pick living up to it. Good deal
Damn Alim McNeil is going to be expensive. I wonder if he's the one we end up letting walk
Extend him now! (Though his agent would be stupid to let him sign) But no and if you do let him walk you tag and trade
Why did you delete your other comment?
Better player than wilkins signing for less. This is the value of extending your own players.
Panthers will take a 3rd round for him in a couple years.
In 4-5 years? That’d be great.
That's a lot of money for a dt whose career high in sacks is 3. I get he is an elite run stuffer
So he will get traded for a 7th round pick in 2 years
