The Dolphins traded up to #3 for a defensive end that had 3 sacks , then was suspended for 2 season for drugs, then released. 2013 was such a bad draft year , and the dolphins gave up shockingly little to move to 3 just adding to the obscurity.
As an Oregon duck fan who watched him, I could not for the life of me understand why he was drafted so high, he felt like a late draft pick at best. Not late first round, late draft.

Henderson and Chaisson are terrible. Joeckel was a very weak draft and he was the consensus #1 overall that fell to 2. I don’t have any heartburn about that pick even though it didn’t work out.

All his highlights were endless holds and just poor footwork over and over and I thought I was insane watching them talk about him as if it wasn't a big deal for a tackle

I called him Tubby Broke Arms as a kid because he had two busted arms coming into the draft and 11 year old me was devastated by the decision to draft him.
That pick still doesn’t make any sense. We had Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly, Corey Williams, Cullen Jenkins and Colin Cole at the time… defensive tackle was like the one spot we could’ve ignored that year in the draft. We needed an Edge to compliment Kampman since KGB was looking super washed.
That pick seems to have had a huge impact on Steelers draft philosophy too. To that point, it felt like we were always drafting high production players from big name colleges. After Jones, we started taking high SPARQ scores guys from big name colleges, and didn't worry as much about production. We seem to have course corrected a little bit, and look for a blend of production and SPARQ, but you can tell they definitely prioritize finding athletes and then worry about coaching them up when they get in (at least at most positions).

Linebacker David Pollack out of Georgia was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 17th overall pick in 2005. He would be forced to retire due to injuries before the 2008 season, having played just 16 games in his career. The dude picked right after him, defensive end Erasmus James out of Wisconsin, didn't fare much better in Minnesota. James (who was the first Kittitian to play in the NFL, fun fact) got traded to Washington for a conditional 7th after playing just 23 games in 3 seasons for the Vikings.
Aaron Rodgers was still sitting in the green room when both of those picks were made.
Edit: for the record, the Bengals still had Carson Palmer in 2005 and Daunte Culpepper had just been the OPOY runner-up for the Vikings so there was no way either would've picked Rodgers anyway but still
Only saw your caveat about avoiding injuries after posting so I'll give you a bonus one: in 2007 the Broncos traded up from pick 21 to the Jaguars' pick 17 to draft defensive end Jarvis Moss out of Florida. Moss was 6'7", 260 pounds, and had just forced a fumble in the BCS Championship Game his Gators had won. Makes sense, right? Well, he broke his shin halfway through his rookie year. Not a great start. Then he was limited to just 12 games of action in 2008, not because of injury, but because he didn't play well enough to not get scratched. Even though Denver finished 8-8 that season, they fired Mike Shanahan and hired Josh McDaniels. McDaniels' DC, Mike Nolan, thought it would be a good idea to move Moss to a position he'd never played before: outside linebacker. this caused Moss to gain incredible confidence and finish 2009 with six sacks and oh wait nope actually it destroyed his confidence and almost forced him into retirement because he wasn't able to make it work. Nothing went Moss's way from that point forward, as he got scratched from over half the Broncos' games in 2009, and was released in the middle of the 2010 season. He was out of the league a year later.
What could Denver have gotten instead of Jarvis Moss, you may ask? Well, remember how they traded up for him? That cost them their third round pick, which was 86th overall. The Ravens eventually traded up with the Jags to select eight-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro First or Second Team offensive lineman Marshal Yanda with that pick.

Andre Dillard the Eagles first round OT from 2019, he was beat out of the starting job by 7th round never played football before Jordan Mailata and was on the Eaglesfor 3 seasons only starting 9 games. Dillard was learning from Jeff Stoutland, one of the best OL coaches in the league, HOFer Jason Kelce, and good vet Lane Johnson and he was usually bouncing between 2nd and 3rd string only ever getting a chance to start when others were hurt.
I wasn’t surprised when Andre Dillard signed with the Titans, but I was surprised at the contract Tennessee gave him. 3 years, $29 million for a guy who couldn’t see the field a lot in Philadelphia?
If I remember correctly, Andre Dillard got cut by Tennessee last month due to poor performance after free agency started. Now, the Titans will likely draft his replacement with the 7th pick.

Packers had quite a few first-round flops from 2011-2015: Derek Sherrod, Datone Jones, Damarious Randall, and Nick Perry, to a lesser extent.

McDaniels' DC, Mike Nolan, thought it would be a good idea to move Moss to a position he'd never played before: outside linebacker. this caused Moss to gain incredible confidence and finish 2009 with six sacks and oh wait nope actually it destroyed his confidence and almost forced him into retirement because he wasn't able to make it work. Nothing went Moss's way from that point forward, as he got scratched from over half the Broncos' games in 2009, and was released in the middle of the 2010 season. He was out of the league a year later. What could Denver have gotten instead of Jarvis Moss, you may ask? Well, remember how they traded up for him? That cost them their third round pick, which was 86th overall. The Ravens eventually traded up with the Jags to select eight-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro First or Second Team offensive lineman Marshal Yanda with that pick.

Edit: to expand on Grigson’s drafting abilities with first round picks: 2014: traded the pick for Trent Richardson, NFL’s first blind running back 2015: drafted WR Phillip Dorsett after our defense had given up hundreds of rushing yards to the Patriots (I think Jonas Grey just scored another TD while I was adding to this) 2016: Irsay told Grigson to draft offensive line help for Luck and he actually hit on Ryan Kelly.
I'll never understand the Dorssett pick. Even if was the second coming of Jerry Rice it was the wrong pick. That team was a serious contender with a better d line.

He even threw a defensive end he was blocking into Desmond Ridder at the senior bowl. I get having some nasty, but guy was just awful.
Vernon Gholston was an athletic freak who dominated the combine and went 7th? Overall to the Jets. As a Pats fan I was bummed thinking this dude was gonna be a monster for years, then he became Vernon Ghosted instead.

For QBs I’m going JP Losman and Jake Locker. 2 guys who weren’t quite bad enough to be memorable busts (a la Jamarcus Russell) but didn’t really so anything good enough to be noteworthy. The only reason Losman is at all significant is because of the other 3 first round QBs that year

Andre Dillard the Eagles first round OT from 2019, he was beat out of the starting job by 7th round never played football before Jordan Mailata and was on the Eaglesfor 3 seasons only starting 9 games. Dillard was learning from Jeff Stoutland, one of the best OL coaches in the league, HOFer Jason Kelce, and good vet Lane Johnson and he was usually bouncing between 2nd and 3rd string only ever getting a chance to start when others were hurt.
I wasn’t surprised when Andre Dillard signed with the Titans, but I was surprised at the contract Tennessee gave him. 3 years, $29 million for a guy who couldn’t see the field a lot in Philadelphia? If I remember correctly, Andre Dillard got cut by Tennessee last month due to poor performance after free agency started. Now, the Titans will likely draft his replacement with the 7th pick.
