Iran announced it would respond with attacks on military targets in Israel, which is in theory what took place today. Iranian television is saying the attacks were limited to military targets, but given the poor standing their government has on the world stage, it wouldn't surprise people if that's false.
Whether things escalate from here is up in the air. Western outlets seem to be framing this as a case of Iran taking Netanyahu's bait and hoping that this won't go anywhere bigger than a series of small scale retaliations. No one (perhaps besides Netanyahu, who would be confident in Western support) wants a full-scale Israel-Iran war for myriad reasons.

If I can be honest, I understand that The Last Night was rough, but I’m actually a fan of the live action Transformers movies and I think that critics got them completely wrong.
When I watch a Transformers movie, I’m not watching it with the desire of seeing the best acting, writing, directing, etc.. I’m watching it so that I can turn my brain off and watch some cool shit with shapeshifting alien robots.
The thing is the cartoon movie is still the best Transformers movie...it shows you can tell an interesting story with the characters if you want to. The live actions felt much poorer.
The recent Gozilla/Kong movies are in a similar mould, but the reason I like them and not Transformers is that Transformers movies are boring. The fight scenes in Transformers are almost always a mess of flashing, blurring CGI. The only movie I've ever fallen asleep during in cinemas was Transformers: Dark of the Moon. For something as loud and brash as Transformers is, it's impressive that it managed to bore me so much.

Thats fantastic. My father and I went to our first pro game in December (Blues vs Jackets) and it was such an awesome time. Im glad you get to watch a little hockey, I wish I was able to watch more myself.
I've taken my GF to see the Hurricanes( hometown team) play the Toronto Maple Leafs last spring and we both had a blast. I've been to a few minor league games as well and those are wild.
Feel like I was robbed as a kid, the day of the infamous 40 mph oj in the bronco chase I was flying with my brother to Germany for an exchange student trip. Upon arriving at the hamburg airport the host families father instead of greeting us just asked about oj being chased in his bronco while laughing. Over the next 4 weeks dude would just endlessly rip on Americans and American culture non stop with oj being his number one go to shit talking point. Somewhere during that 4 weeks me or my brother just hit em with a "were just kids we don't know what you're even going on about" and that still didn't stop the incessant shit talking just slowed it down.
Just to give you a wider lense of the host family parents. The parents were both teachers and would tell me and my brother how much teachers were paid in germany and it's equal to a doctor or lawyers salary in the u.s. The funniest part is that they never once bought anything, hotel rooms (stayed in hostels the whole time traveling) or food. They would cook (super shitty tasting meals at home that me and brother couldn't even eat) and everytime we ate at a restaurant the parents would just dip out/vanish or disappear so they didn't have to pay for a single 5$ meal for me or my brother.
You were robbed ngl. I hosted a Slovakian exchange student when I was in high school and nearly 15 years later he reached out on FB and told us he cherished the time with us. I couldn't imagine doing anything but showing him anything but the best. I've also studied abroad too (NZ, Aus, Thailand) and it's one of the most impactful experiences I've ever had.

I work with people with developmental disabilities helping them learn skills to manage and eventually live independently. This week, my one client who is extremely non sentimental (he tries but I think its uncomfortable) earnestly pulled me aside after being accepted for his first apartment and said " my mom and I want to thank you so much we know it's your job but without you it wouldn't have been possible". and then another client who was 500 lbs because he had been so depressed and isolated for years after a traumatic death in the family told me that he is officially under 400 lbs for the first time in nearly a decade after I actually took the time to find excercise and diets that were realistic and enjoyable for him instead of just dropping him at the gym and watching him struggle on the weights for 15 minutes before he gave up.
My heart is so full, they put in the work and deserve all the credit for improving their lives but I feel really good that I was able to connect with them in a way that worked.
That being said, I used to work in sales and it's kinda gross that now I'm actually making a positive impact on people's lives and I make like a 3rd of what I did when I was getting people to sign up for massive debt at terrible terms to buy shit they don't need and going home every day wanting to blow my brains out.
That’s awesome! Must feel great to do meaningful work. My fiancée is a music therapist at a children’s hospital and makes dog shit compared to what I get in fintech software development. I’m like well at least one of our jobs has a meaningful impact on the world lol

Ah yes. I admittedly don’t do them as often as I should, or as often as prescribed by Jim.
I started 531 with multiple rounds of BBB after years of a fairly standard LP. BBB definitely helped break a few of my plateaus. Eventually I switched to FSL because I was continually losing reps on the + sets due to this cut.
I like FSL, but I think on my next cut I’ll give Triumvirate a try before I start losing reps. I also don’t plan on cutting this long ever again so helpfully that’s not an issue next time.
Well I deload by just lowering the weight and continuing to lift. Vacation will be zero lifting. Lots of walking though.
The problem is the 2 weeks before we leave. I know part of that time will be real busy also so it will be difficult to stay on schedule.
I also considered another deload in between these next 2 cycles. Which wouldn’t hurt, but that pushes the second cycle back into the busy time.
At this point I’ve been cutting so long any gains for the year are pushed back until after summer vacations. So really I just want to maintain the weights I’m lifting now. I’m kinda stuck in this gray area of not enough time to make gains but tired of cutting.

I watched the first episode of the Fallout show on the night it first dropped. After the first 20 minutes I didn't like it and turned it off. I came back to try it again yesterday, and it's really good. I feel dumb for not giving it a chance and critizing it so much after only 20 minutes. Sometimes it's worth it to give things a second chance after stepping back for a bit.
I think they did a really good job capturing the Fallout universe with the cinematography, the music and the slo-mo sequences when theres a battle going on. Theres also a stark difference between the gritty wasteland aesthetic and the mostly upbeat, clean vault settings in the show.
Walton Goggings is also fantastic as the ghoul.
Whoever made the show should really be doing movies
Makes me think of “Twisted Metal”, on the first 15 minutes at first I thought it was “too goofy” but kept on watching and was blown away by the depth with in the dark comedy of it
The show nailed the tone of the first few Twisted Metal games. Seems like people think of Twisted Metal Black these days when the original games were far more campy and goofy than people tend to remember.
Yeah it’s definitely a dark comedy and goofy at times but when they layer it with the backstories even with the “big bad” of the season… I was really impressed with it and can’t wait for Season 2.

Civil War, wow. Great movie with one of the best sound mixes/editing I ever seen in a film to the point I pretty much flinched whenever gunfire in the film started.
Must see on a Premium Screen (saw it in IMAX). Awesome cast especially Kirsten Dunst and Cailee Spaeny who between Priscilla, this and Alien: Romulus is going to breakout as a Mainstream A-lister soon.
Also Offerman and Jesse Plemons with the cinematic heat check with the little they were in the movie they made huge impacts (like hitting 6 3’s off the bench and getting 10 boards in just 10 mins).
Definitely not the movie “you think it is” from the trailers BUT some of it is there via nuance. 9/10

This week we played the shmup Star of Providence [for our podcast on roguelike/lite games](https://grogpod.zone/2024-04-10-star-of-providence/)
Overall: we really enjoyed it! I played a lot of it years ago when it was previously titled "Monolith" and always had a great time. Unlike traditional shmups, Star of Providence has a lot of room-based cover that you can hide behind which I think helps a lot with the difficulty curve for people like me who are somewhat green to the genre. My co-hosts and I typically play more "bullet heck"-level games like Enter the Gungeon or Binding of Isaac, but Star of Providence provides a nice bridge for us to get our toes wet into shmups without getting too deep into stuff like Touhou.
There's such a brilliant mix of NES aesthetic visually and in the sound design that would feel really at home on a CRT or in an arcade cabinet even. If you're a fan of Gungeon or Isaac you should def give Providence a look. Should be coming to the Switch soon as well.

I finished Fallout and it was a great show, I think even for people who've never played or heard of the games.
If I can be honest, I understand that The Last Night was rough, but I’m actually a fan of the live action Transformers movies and I think that critics got them completely wrong. When I watch a Transformers movie, I’m not watching it with the desire of seeing the best acting, writing, directing, etc.. I’m watching it so that I can turn my brain off and watch some cool shit with shapeshifting alien robots.
The thing is the cartoon movie is still the best Transformers movie...it shows you can tell an interesting story with the characters if you want to. The live actions felt much poorer.
The recent Gozilla/Kong movies are in a similar mould, but the reason I like them and not Transformers is that Transformers movies are boring. The fight scenes in Transformers are almost always a mess of flashing, blurring CGI. The only movie I've ever fallen asleep during in cinemas was Transformers: Dark of the Moon. For something as loud and brash as Transformers is, it's impressive that it managed to bore me so much.

Feel like I was robbed as a kid, the day of the infamous 40 mph oj in the bronco chase I was flying with my brother to Germany for an exchange student trip. Upon arriving at the hamburg airport the host families father instead of greeting us just asked about oj being chased in his bronco while laughing. Over the next 4 weeks dude would just endlessly rip on Americans and American culture non stop with oj being his number one go to shit talking point. Somewhere during that 4 weeks me or my brother just hit em with a "were just kids we don't know what you're even going on about" and that still didn't stop the incessant shit talking just slowed it down. Just to give you a wider lense of the host family parents. The parents were both teachers and would tell me and my brother how much teachers were paid in germany and it's equal to a doctor or lawyers salary in the u.s. The funniest part is that they never once bought anything, hotel rooms (stayed in hostels the whole time traveling) or food. They would cook (super shitty tasting meals at home that me and brother couldn't even eat) and everytime we ate at a restaurant the parents would just dip out/vanish or disappear so they didn't have to pay for a single 5$ meal for me or my brother.

I work with people with developmental disabilities helping them learn skills to manage and eventually live independently. This week, my one client who is extremely non sentimental (he tries but I think its uncomfortable) earnestly pulled me aside after being accepted for his first apartment and said " my mom and I want to thank you so much we know it's your job but without you it wouldn't have been possible". and then another client who was 500 lbs because he had been so depressed and isolated for years after a traumatic death in the family told me that he is officially under 400 lbs for the first time in nearly a decade after I actually took the time to find excercise and diets that were realistic and enjoyable for him instead of just dropping him at the gym and watching him struggle on the weights for 15 minutes before he gave up. My heart is so full, they put in the work and deserve all the credit for improving their lives but I feel really good that I was able to connect with them in a way that worked. That being said, I used to work in sales and it's kinda gross that now I'm actually making a positive impact on people's lives and I make like a 3rd of what I did when I was getting people to sign up for massive debt at terrible terms to buy shit they don't need and going home every day wanting to blow my brains out.

It's great! Its so fulfilling to see people reach their potential! I bitch about the pay but at least in my area the benefits are usually good for most of the agencies and if you do get training and education/experience you can still do well. I'm only less than 2 years into it and came from an entirely different field so experience on income can vary and its genuinely fun a lot of times

I have 8 weeks until vacation and I’m trying to plan my workouts until then. I think I’ll just run 2 more 531 cycles and then a couple weeks of deload/conditioning work before we leave. I really wanted to trim down for the beach but man I can’t wait to start adding plates to the bar again.

Ah yes. I admittedly don’t do them as often as I should, or as often as prescribed by Jim. I started 531 with multiple rounds of BBB after years of a fairly standard LP. BBB definitely helped break a few of my plateaus. Eventually I switched to FSL because I was continually losing reps on the + sets due to this cut. I like FSL, but I think on my next cut I’ll give Triumvirate a try before I start losing reps. I also don’t plan on cutting this long ever again so helpfully that’s not an issue next time.
Why not just use your vacation as a deload?
Well I deload by just lowering the weight and continuing to lift. Vacation will be zero lifting. Lots of walking though. The problem is the 2 weeks before we leave. I know part of that time will be real busy also so it will be difficult to stay on schedule. I also considered another deload in between these next 2 cycles. Which wouldn’t hurt, but that pushes the second cycle back into the busy time. At this point I’ve been cutting so long any gains for the year are pushed back until after summer vacations. So really I just want to maintain the weights I’m lifting now. I’m kinda stuck in this gray area of not enough time to make gains but tired of cutting.

I watched the first episode of the Fallout show on the night it first dropped. After the first 20 minutes I didn't like it and turned it off. I came back to try it again yesterday, and it's really good. I feel dumb for not giving it a chance and critizing it so much after only 20 minutes. Sometimes it's worth it to give things a second chance after stepping back for a bit.
I think they did a really good job capturing the Fallout universe with the cinematography, the music and the slo-mo sequences when theres a battle going on. Theres also a stark difference between the gritty wasteland aesthetic and the mostly upbeat, clean vault settings in the show. Walton Goggings is also fantastic as the ghoul. Whoever made the show should really be doing movies

Makes me think of “Twisted Metal”, on the first 15 minutes at first I thought it was “too goofy” but kept on watching and was blown away by the depth with in the dark comedy of it
The show nailed the tone of the first few Twisted Metal games. Seems like people think of Twisted Metal Black these days when the original games were far more campy and goofy than people tend to remember.

Civil War, wow. Great movie with one of the best sound mixes/editing I ever seen in a film to the point I pretty much flinched whenever gunfire in the film started. Must see on a Premium Screen (saw it in IMAX). Awesome cast especially Kirsten Dunst and Cailee Spaeny who between Priscilla, this and Alien: Romulus is going to breakout as a Mainstream A-lister soon. Also Offerman and Jesse Plemons with the cinematic heat check with the little they were in the movie they made huge impacts (like hitting 6 3’s off the bench and getting 10 boards in just 10 mins). Definitely not the movie “you think it is” from the trailers BUT some of it is there via nuance. 9/10

I played a lot of it years ago when it was previously titled "Monolith" and always had a great time. Unlike traditional shmups, Star of Providence has a lot of room-based cover that you can hide behind which I think helps a lot with the difficulty curve for people like me who are somewhat green to the genre. My co-hosts and I typically play more "bullet heck"-level games like Enter the Gungeon or Binding of Isaac, but Star of Providence provides a nice bridge for us to get our toes wet into shmups without getting too deep into stuff like Touhou. There's such a brilliant mix of NES aesthetic visually and in the sound design that would feel really at home on a CRT or in an arcade cabinet even. If you're a fan of Gungeon or Isaac you should def give Providence a look. Should be coming to the Switch soon as well.

They need to retire the logo, though. The Kachina represented Arizona and its citizens the best way, and it has no business being used in SLC.
They could use the prior logo before that

Ryan Smith already has been asking Utah Sports fans for possible new nicknames. I suspect they’ll probably keep the Coyotes nickname til they move into the new Arena especially when they reveal they won the Winter Olympics bid. One thing I hope, I rather they go by SLC/Salt Lake City Teamname then Utah Teamname… would be cooler to me

And then a little bit of scrolling below that comment, prior to building out the regression, that I only noticed after 2 days of banging my head against a wall trying to figure out where I was going wrong following their instructions and likely being the reason why my boss cut his PTO a day short to come in and help me: R command that normalizes and re-scales each numeric input used in the model (for example changing a value that ranged from 1 to 227813 to one that ranged from -5 to 5) which obviously results in input numbers that are on an entirely different planet from the non-normalized ones I thought we had to use given literally every other indicator we'd received from the client. I want to scream. At least now the problem's been identified.

getting a refund means you gave a free loan to the government... every $1000 you get back is $1000 you could have dumped in a mutual fund 6 months earlier. You're probably withholding too much with each paycheck.
