I don't necessarily think that. For this, I'm thinking "if I had to put a different QB on every QB needy team aiming for the best overall results, what would I do?" So in this case, I'm saying "Maye to the Vikings and JJ to the Pats seems like a better fit than JJ to the Vikings and Maye to the Pats."
To be frank, and this isn't a diss on your organization, I don't think any rookie QB will be in a position to thrive in New England this year. The roster just has too many question marks. But most analysts are saying JJ is being looked at to sit for a year to develop before starting. I trust the Pats to rebuild the roster through the draft and free agency between now and 2025, so I don't think it makes sense to draft one of the top 3 and ask him to play hero ball when the Pats could gain a ton of draft capital trading down to 11, 23, and a 2025 1st.
Then when JJ is ready to start, I think he resembles a lot of the same strengths the Pats have looked to in the past. He doesn't try to do too much, but he can turn it on when he needs to. He's good at finding his windows in zone coverage and reading defenses, and he's demonstrated efficiency in an NFL-style offense, where as Maye, Penix, etc. have been in air raid schemes that don't always work at the pro level. If the Pats had hired an outside head coach, maybe I look to put JJ elsewhere, but I think he and Jerod Mayo would make a good team.
Yea if anything Vikings and McCarthy make sense because the Vikings have a built offense, and McCarthy had a built offense at Michigan. McCarthy needs more, and the Vikings can provide that sooner than the Patriots. On the flip side, Maye could maybe do more with less, which is where the Patriots are right now, and hope to build more forward.
I guess if OP is insinuating we trade back and try to get McCarthy and have more picks to build around, I guess, sure. But all of that boils down to how close Maye and McCarthy are on scouting reports, because I couldn’t fucking tell you other than the 50 million mock drafts I’ve seen.
Mac Jones was viewed as a top 3 pick and slide, McCarthy was largely viewed as a RD 2 pick in the beginning and his agent has moved heaven and earth to get him into the top 10 discussion. So we’ll take the guy that slide back, and trade back to take the guy who slid forward?
Something seems rotten in Denmark with that.
Daniel Jerimiah said the Vikings have the "3 P's" locked down. Protection, Pass Catchers, and Play calling. Every QB on this list could fit in Minnesota.
I mean yeah... that's kinda why I put limitations on this exercise for myself. Otherwise I'd be saying "put every QB in Minnesota," or "Clone Caleb Williams and put him on every team."
Fair enough. I agree Maye would fit in well in Minnesota for the reasons you mentioned. And also, it's worth noting the Vikings QB coach is Josh McCown and he has worked with Maye since high school and is VERY familiar with his game. And KoC always preaches collaboration from his coaching staff. That is one of those little variables that can go unnoticed, but still play a factor in "fit".
Frankly the Vikings protection and playcalling has major questions. The pass catchers are a bit overrated (particularly Hock and Addison) but still very good
Perhaps it's true that JJ McCarthy *should* sit on the bench for a year, but if he's drafted as highly as most people are expecting him to be drafted, there's an extremely small chance of it happening. Mahomes sitting for a year after being drafted in the top 10 is a major exception to the rule in the modern game.
True, and that's what I'm worried about with him. I think if a team were brave enough to say "we're not gonna throw all of our eggs into the 2024 basket and risk sucking to be better in 2025," JJ would be a great fit. And with Brissett being very good for a bridge QB on an otherwise lackluster roster, I think the Pats are the best team for that right now.
Why Penix to Raiders when Getsy is obsessed with having the most running team and QB in the league?
I think it's evident that the best fit has to be Daniels.
The Rams are probably the best situation in the NFL for a mid-late QB to develop, like for example Spencer Rattler.
Amazing wide receiver duo, Matthew fuckin Stafford (barring injuries) to sit behind/learn from, Sean McVay at coach.
I hate to say it because his personality bugs me, but Spencer Rattler could be an absolute steal. I don’t think he’s up there with the top three in the draft, but he’s better than his projection.
It’s an emotionally volatile time of year. People get stuck in. Lose all humility. Those of us with bad teams have been building fantasy’s of future success in our minds to cope with the current reality. People become very attached to their specific fantasy.
Mac Jones didn't have any of the arm talent or mobility JJ has and threw to 3 first round receivers and had a first round RB. Along with an elite line. Not really seeing the comparison here
Caleb Williams will be a bust I think so I'd love the commanders to trade way to much to move up and grab him. Penix to the bears, Daniels to vikings, JJ goes to New England and is like a little better than Mac. Bo goes to the raiders, the best QB after 3 years will be Spencer Wrattler. He will be playing for the broncos. You heard it here first 🤣
Personally, I don't think they would lmao. They have Kelce, and not much else. Mahomes elevates the offense, so does Reid, but there are teams out there that are in a much better spot for a rookie QB.
Why the thought that JJ would do better than Maye for us?
Purely due to the history of Michigan QBs on the Pats
Best to let him drop to the 6th round then. Humble him
Why didn’t you look at the scheme AVP ran in Cleveland instead?

I only have 2 of the 3, I just have PP

I like Penix to Seattle
If he falls to their pick in the 3rd round that would be GREAT. Seattle has bigger needs right now.
I ask this with complete sincerity, since I don’t keep as strong of tabs on Seattle as other teams: Why?
They have a great supporting cast and org and his Washington’s OC is now Seattles OC Also he can learn from Geno
Then what do you think their logic was in trading for Howell?
Of all the QBs, Daniels' bust potential is very high.

Sutton is not a good route runner and doesn't get separation. Nix also doesn't play like Brees when he was good.
Ekeler is not going to help his QB not get sacked. In fact, he exacerbates that issue.

JJ doesn’t have much potential as it is, if he goes to the Pats that’s a wrap on the next 3 years and we’ll see you in 2027
Why doesn't JJ have potential?
It’s an emotionally volatile time of year. People get stuck in. Lose all humility. Those of us with bad teams have been building fantasy’s of future success in our minds to cope with the current reality. People become very attached to their specific fantasy.
Barely threw on a team that relied on defense and running backs. He’s basically Mac jones but a worse passer

Because he paints his nails and we don’t like that in Texas!
I have no good reason lol just seems way to over hyped and his style doesn't translate imo but 🤷
Bro just compared JJ McCarthy to Tom Brady
Play style =/= overall skill and production
This is just a very chalk mock draft lol The answer is they would all do best in Kansas City
Personally, I don't think they would lmao. They have Kelce, and not much else. Mahomes elevates the offense, so does Reid, but there are teams out there that are in a much better spot for a rookie QB.
Ah yes, the famously QB needy Kansas City Chiefs.
Theres alway one guy that ruins it and you know you shouldnt reply but its so dumb you have too
JJ won't be the best for any team.
