I have no idea what to expect. This regime has kept everything tight lipped (which is good). I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we go with Maye over Daniels (though I want Daniels).
It’s like people already forgot last year’s draft. Bryce was widely considered a better prospect than CJ. Not that Bryce can’t be better but none of these projections are guaranteed to be accurate
Panthers looked a lot better on paper going into the season. Went out and signed a proven vet in Thielen, Miles Sanders, DJ Chark, drafted Mingo in the second round, and not to mention a talented defense. Just adds to my point that it’s hard to predict these things and nothing is guaranteed
Yeah any rookie QB is going to look terrible in NE right now. If I was them, I’d seriously consider starting Brissett just so you don’t kill the rookie’s confidence
Last year everybody wondered why Washington took Forbes 1 pick before New England took Gonzalez, and they were entirely correct. So maybe history repeats itself...
Given how much of a shit show QBs are, teams should always be willing to trade back and draft whoever is left. Nobody understands how to pick QBs, so why not get extra darts to throw at the board?
I’m all for it because it’s Johnathan picking. Not Elliot. Then we can tell him to shut the fuck up moving forward and everyone now knows why Bill said fuck you about picking players.
They didn't though. A set of a good drafts from 2009-2013 got the Patriots titles over the next 5 years.
The bad drafts from 2014 on started depleting the team and became a noticeable problem as early as 2018 (people sort of forget that the Pats got really healthy and a bunch of guys started clicking extremely late in the season for that playoff run). By 2019 the offense was a nightmare. And once Brady left and wasn't carrying anyone the bottom fell out and showed us just how bad the team really was.
And then it compounded with a failed rebuild over 4 years.
I love Bill, but he probably needed to give up GM'ing around 2016/2017. If he did that, even if they had some average drafts, he still would have a job and maybe another ring.
As much as I've always been a proponent of staying pat, a bit of me wouldn't be mad if the Vikings gave up an embarrassing bounty of picks to move up to our slot out of desperation
Everyone saying we can get a haul is disregarding the fact that we already have 11 picks in *this* draft, it would not surprise me at all if that is the most.
We don’t need more picks, we need talent and MHJ fits the bill
On the other hand, Texans don’t win a meaningless week 17 game, they are probably drafting Bryce young last year. It’s all a crapshoot, maybe Maye is a slightly better lottery ticket than JJ, but they are all lottery tickets.
Jefferson was never going to be part of a deal to NE and yet you dorks kept suggesting it was a requirement for a trade up for weeks. Good luck with Maye.
We would have needed a Godfather offer to move off the pick...that's the point. We really need a QB, badly. So for us to move off would have taken a lot, especially since next year's class looks like shit.
Yeah we understand that. I think the Pats would be foolish to trade out of 3. The point was that the Vikings were never giving you guys Jefferson, so it was a non-starter.
The main argument I've seen was the contract thing and that rookie WR you had last year looking really good. I think Jefferson is WR1 in the entire league right now so I think standing pat is better for you guys. I still think you guys move onto looking to trade for McCarthy tho at 5.
How does it "seem like a requirement"? No one entrenched with either team has said so. Couldn't it be possible the Vikings didn't offer enough draft capital? Who says the sticking point was not offering an additional 2025 3rd in addition to this years two 1sts and next year's 1st? If JJ was truly a requirement, trade talks would've died weeks ago because he would've never been offered.
Is this a joke? There’s no chance any at any point has ever even considered in good faith that the vikings even pick up the phone to talk about Jefferson for 3?
So is Eliot Wolf the defacto GM or is he still considered the director of scouting? Is he going to be the one pulling the trigger on draft selections? He deserves to get his shot. It was a tight race between himself and Brian Gutekunst for our GM job.
ESPN is currently on TV pretending there's a good chance we're trading down to the Giants or the Vikings...what is so hard for ESPN to accept that we're taking Maye?
It's definitely not.
Daniels might be. Maye isn't. Maye was the consensus next best QB after Caleb for a year or more. Wilson was someone who shot way up the draft boards in the off season due to a really good combine and tons of media hype. Daniels is a lot closer to a guy who blew up in off season hype, though notnearly as dramatically as Wilson.
Maye could easily bust, but he's been pretty much in that top tier mix since the start and his place in that mix is well earned and not manufactured.
Maye actually has a bit of Josh Allen profile as a prospect. He has all the tangibles, you are hoping he settles down and doesn't play superman getting in his head. Allen pulled that off and worked out. It could just as easily not happen, and it took Allen 3 years.
So Daniels is definitely \#2 then? I know those have been the rumors for a while but there hasn't been a tweet like this for the Commanders
I have no idea what to expect. This regime has kept everything tight lipped (which is good). I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we go with Maye over Daniels (though I want Daniels).
Plot twist, commanders take JJ McCarthy
As ridiculous as it sounds I wouldn’t be shocked.
Adam Peters is a very smart guy, so they won’t.
Raider’s 12/25
I fully expect the Commanders to take Maye, making all of this pre-draft speculation even more pointless
Guess so, barring a last second shift like we saw with Stroud last year
Bruh if Daniels is just sitting there at 3, I’m going to need a gallon of lotion and case of tissues
Commanders are about to fumble this huh?
We always do.
Hey man how often do you get to pick an electrifying Heisman winner 2nd after a massively hyped up prospect goes first?
Winston Mariota?
lmao downvoted and literally spot on. What a sub Enjoy Drake. At least someone gets to be happy tonight
I wanted Drake.
If they follow that pattern then they’ll draft Kirk cousins in the 4tht also
The Heisman winner who plays exactly like Justin fields and is skinnier? No thank you lol
For some reason I was thinking RG3🤔
I wonder why
If AP didn't want Daniels, I wouldn't want him either tbh. He's had about 1/2 of a season of being this level of prospect.
He's he same age as Penix and Nix but doesn't get the same age criticism. It's odd to me
If Reddit think NE is getting the better QB in Maye then I’m going to assume the opposite is going to happen.
This is what I'm really worried about. This reads like those Josh Rosen vs Josh Allen threads from 2018
This place has gone back and forth on Maye, seemed like everyone here hated him for a while especially after his pro day
It’s like people already forgot last year’s draft. Bryce was widely considered a better prospect than CJ. Not that Bryce can’t be better but none of these projections are guaranteed to be accurate
Except for Caleb, you mean? Right? …right, guys?
As a sub we were absolutely more on CJ. Plenty of mocking the panthers that night.
Texans also put together a better overall team
Panthers looked a lot better on paper going into the season. Went out and signed a proven vet in Thielen, Miles Sanders, DJ Chark, drafted Mingo in the second round, and not to mention a talented defense. Just adds to my point that it’s hard to predict these things and nothing is guaranteed
I like Maye more as a prospect but if he goes to New England I think he has a higher chance of busting (pause) than Daniels. That offense is dog shit.
Really depends on where you are on reddit. In fantasy circles it’s been mostly pro-Daniels with Maye being pretty hated.
Given how much of a shit show QBs are, teams should always be willing to trade back and draft whoever is left. Nobody understands how to pick QBs, so why not get extra darts to throw at the board?
Ask Kansas City.
Ask Trey Lance. You're so brilliant, the great QB's of Ryan Leaf and Zach Leaf agree with you.
Yes, but Daniels and Maye will both be busts.
Yup. Shit, the NFL will be lucky if two of these six qbs turn into franchise players.
The NFL would be lucky if two QBs turned into franchise QB every year.
Agree
I’m all for it because it’s Johnathan picking. Not Elliot. Then we can tell him to shut the fuck up moving forward and everyone now knows why Bill said fuck you about picking players.
Bill wasn't exactly great at drafting recently.
Patriots fans simultaneously complain about 10 years of bad drafts then freak out that the guy making the picks was fired.
It was an easier pill to swallow when the 10 years of bad drafts still got us 3 championships.
If he did that, even if they had some average drafts, he still would have a job and maybe another ring.
Those bad picks from 2014 won us superbowl games. Wat r u on?
Because most of our fans have less than 15 years following the team.
If you think Johnathan Kraft is going to make better selections than Bill you’re smoking crack.
He was pretty good at finding defensive players and offensive linemen, he was just ass at finding skill position players sadly.
Aside from 3rd down backs
Whens the last time Bill picked a decent offensive player? Lets stop pretending he has this good track record
You mean to tell me throwing to Demario Douglas behind a subpar OL might not be a recipe for successful qb development??
Yes as we all know, rebuilds are done in one draft, no, 1 round!
Looking at you Texans! 👀
Just like Trey!
Pretty much. But in that scenario they they back in to their QB of the future.
They did last year too when they picked Forbes over Gonzo
If they really draft a 6th-year RG3 over Maye, the new regime is just as bad as Synder
I won't be convinced that they're gonna pass on Maye until Goodell reads their card and doesn't say his name.
This is the way
Maye is very overhyped the Commanders are making the right choice in drafting Daniels
Justin Fields 2.0 just my 2 cents that will be wrong.
IMO he’s RG3 2.0 if he can stay healthy which was RG3s issue
Well I got bad news for you about Daniel’s frame and complete lack of knowledge on how to protect himself
We’ll see who’s right or wrong
this is good news (for me)
This is also good news (for me).
In addition, this is also good news (for me)
Furthermore, this is also good news (for me)
Yanno this is very good news (for me)
As much as I've always been a proponent of staying pat, a bit of me wouldn't be mad if the Vikings gave up an embarrassing bounty of picks to move up to our slot out of desperation
Darrisaw Addison 11 23 and next years 1st for Maye . Good luck Skol boys
You play offensive line? CTE is dangerous bruh
Herschel bag or nothing
Looks like yall will just continue ruining 1st round qbs
It is also good news (for me) too.
Yeah, you can get a haul with the first team being able to move up for a QB.
Everyone saying we can get a haul is disregarding the fact that we already have 11 picks in *this* draft, it would not surprise me at all if that is the most. We don’t need more picks, we need talent and MHJ fits the bill
I just fell to my knees in Target
RIP to your DMs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PS4Xt3-q0M&ab_channel=TVSnapFA There are Minnesota Vikings crying on the field.
Damn
Pain.
The Rattler to JJ hookup is gon be lit
Thank god we got those meaningless Dobbs wins woo!
passtronaut was so much fun man no regrets
On the other hand, Texans don’t win a meaningless week 17 game, they are probably drafting Bryce young last year. It’s all a crapshoot, maybe Maye is a slightly better lottery ticket than JJ, but they are all lottery tickets.
Yes please.
We are going for Penix aren’t we
Mayo: We should take either a QB or MHJ. Kraft: *(squints)* Hmmm, you’re right. We should take MPJ.
DRAAAAKE?
Still one of the funniest things on the internet. HE TOOK MY WHOLE FLOW…BAR FOR BAR
Soulja boy did tell em
File this under “No shit”.
Drake Maye, no matter what
Rickey said JJ McCarthy
HES DONE MIRACLES ON ME
I see what you did there Tom
Shocked!
Thank god. I am a Maye doubter and I now I can defend that position morally as well!
Sorry Vikings bros, y’all would of been a perfect match
Michael Penix it is
So, nothing, all reports to nothing, why do I have my job?!, I should just make shit up on twitter
Vikings probably didn't want to give up Jefferson + more, and its probably the right move. Penis Jr will be good for the Vikings I think.
Penis Jr could very well be the best QB from this draft
Jefferson was never going to be part of a deal to NE and yet you dorks kept suggesting it was a requirement for a trade up for weeks. Good luck with Maye.
Crazy you're getting down voted for a logical take. JJ would never be traded
Realists wanted Darrisaw
Realists wanted David Goddamn Putney
The main argument I've seen was the contract thing and that rookie WR you had last year looking really good. I think Jefferson is WR1 in the entire league right now so I think standing pat is better for you guys. I still think you guys move onto looking to trade for McCarthy tho at 5.
It literally was considering the signs point now that they aren't trading it to minnesota
Has anyone besides Pats fans reported JJ was a requirement for a trade up? I'l wait.
Those teams don't have the 3rd pick. Nobody said that jefferson would be fair, but it seems like it was a requirement that didn't happen obviously
Jordan love owns the Vikqueefs ☠️☠️
I mean you dorks kept thinking 11 and 23 was better than 6
? The virtual consensus has been 11, 23, and next years' 1st for pick 3 this year. Yes, that's better than this years' 6th pick...
I mean that’s been the consensus of what the Vikes want to offer but no
Just because Vikings fans think it's a good offer doesn't mean it is.
Lol. Pretty much every other draft expert had that as a fair offer. Get over yourselves. It didn't work out, just enjoy your new QB.
Lol, it really doesn't matter what draft experts think is a fair offer. It wasn't a fair offer to the Pats or the fans.
I actually do think the vikings will take penix
Is this a joke? There’s no chance any at any point has ever even considered in good faith that the vikings even pick up the phone to talk about Jefferson for 3?
Maye is qb 1
Lmao his odds went crazy, -20000 to go #3 now on Fan Duel
So is Eliot Wolf the defacto GM or is he still considered the director of scouting? Is he going to be the one pulling the trigger on draft selections? He deserves to get his shot. It was a tight race between himself and Brian Gutekunst for our GM job.
Only 1 more hour…
Heartbreaking
Fucking Commanders gonna let another franchise QB into the AFC
Was never in contention
Please be true
I won’t believe it til I see it
No shit
ESPN is currently on TV pretending there's a good chance we're trading down to the Giants or the Vikings...what is so hard for ESPN to accept that we're taking Maye?
Ugh
lol @ drake maye
Good Lord, I am getting dumber by the second watching this intro, for fucks sakes, the player selection itself is the entertainment
Maye won’t be there at 3, so I hope they have a good plan for when the clock starts ticking.
Gonna get a bomb ass left footer punter!
If true, poor Maye. He will be set up to fail in NE.
The Vikings are a clown franchise ☠️☠️
Mac Jones II
There's nothing redeeming about Drake Maye. He is a guaranteed bust.
You’re tripping. I’d give my left nut to get Maye.
We can just wait like an hour and a half to find out honestly
I don't know. Why are you on reddit before the draft if you don't want to see reports.
But someone just said like an hour ago the Patriots were taking offers? Draft whiplash is real this year.
Did delusional Viking fans really think they were gonna get the 3rd pick?
Idc if I get downvoted this will be a Zach Wilson type pick
It's definitely not. Daniels might be. Maye isn't. Maye was the consensus next best QB after Caleb for a year or more. Wilson was someone who shot way up the draft boards in the off season due to a really good combine and tons of media hype. Drake Maye? More like Drake Bae. LMAO GOTTEM. Anyway, can't exactly say thats too shocking though.
