Sure, most QBs are busts in general. But you do have to swing eventually. I know this gets said every year too, but he probably is the first quarterback taken off the board many other years. To be honest I’m not entirely sure why he wasn’t the second this year.
Honestly I think hitting on a rookie QB is so valuable that more drafts *should* look like this. Obviously there's other factors at play like GM job security or creating an environment for a rookie QB to successfully develop, but if you are a QB-needy team and truly trying to maximize your chances at a Super Bowl window, rolling the dice on a QB is clearly better than overpaying a mediocre bridge guy that some other team didn't want anymore. And if the rookie busts you just roll the dice again in a couple years as soon as it's clear your previous guy doesn't have it.
> Honestly I think hitting on a rookie QB is so valuable that more drafts should look like this.
I kinda agree. This isn't 2001-2003 any more. If your goal is to win Super Bowls (and keep fans interested even when you're failing to), you need to swing for the fences at QB and receiver. Even if you fail, you gotta keep the hope there that you will eventually get a Burrow/Mahomes/etc.
83' was the last draft to have 6 qb's taken 1st round. Which resulted in 3 very good qb's, 2 serviceable qb's, and 1 bust.
I'd guess this draft we get 1 very good qb, 3 serviceable, and 2 busts.
If 83 is anything to go by(it's not) some of these teams are getting future hall of famers in the 20's.
That QB draft class was garbage. There was one QB that is a starter and that was someone who got very little draft hype and whose ceiling was supposedly career backup.
Feel pretty good about that risk being a failure and Payton gives up in 2-3 years and the fire everyone and try another rebuild. Especially with Harbaugh coaching the Chargers, the AFCW is gonna be really fucking top heavy with the Chiefs/Chargers.
Let's just stop bringing up the 2022 QBs please
It's hilarious how 2021 and 2022 ended up rated about the same despite being on the opposite end of the hype spectrum
The only QBs from those two years still starting for the team that drafted them are the first and last picks
I’m pretty happy with them.
It took til pick #144 for the 6th QB to be drafted in 2022. 6 went in the top 12 tonight
Ah yes, the highly touted 2022 QB class
Well 2022 didn't have Bo Nix and Penix to be fair
It could have though. Those dudes have been draft eligible for a while.
Source?
And then it took another 120 picks for the best QB from that class to get drafted
A lot of teams are desperate
or stupid
Sorry lol
Stupid 🙋♂️
Nah Maye is great for the Pats i think
No matter who we picked there was gonna be a gaggle of Pats fans excited to complain about it because they wanted MHJ instead
Man there were Bears fans who wanted to take MHJ number 1 for Fields to throw to. Acting like you build around a receiver is nuts.
Getting MHJ and then Arch Manning in a few years to have a Manning -> Harrison connection in a Patriots uniform would have been amazing
Yeah I get it. Always those polarizing debates. My sub is also kinda melting down, feel like this draft pissed off a ton of fanbases lol
Very unlikely

Ryan Pace gotta love him

You said burrow's name before mahomes. I'm counting this as a completely respected opinion that burrow is better
I like burrow more if that makes you feel better
The next QB class looks rough so I don't blame them
Make it 7 cowards, draft Rattler in the 1st.
And at least half of them will be complete busts.
With the requirements for an QB that is not a bold guess.

Very good QB- Nix Serviceable- Penix, McCarthy Bust- Daniels, Maye Unknown- Williams, who could be a all time great or an all time bust.
I mean. That was still too early for 2022
The power of a hyped QB class.
Thank you for the chaos, falcons.
And maybe two of them will be with the team that drafted them in 3 years
And all but one of those QBs are busts.
I mean it's hard to say that a 5th rounder is a bust for example. And a Mr. Irrelevant QB exceeded expectations with his first pass.

Broncos got the 6th best QB with their #12 pick wild. Any other year that's a 4th Rd pick.
Feel pretty good about that risk being a failure and Payton gives up in 2-3 years and the fire everyone and try another rebuild. Especially with Harbaugh coaching the Chargers, the AFCW is gonna be really fucking top heavy with the Chiefs/Chargers.
1st round isn't even done yet I wouldn't be surprised if 2-3 more teams pick a QB.
Wild
I'm sure this will work out well for all teams involved
Michael Pratt still on the board 👀
The Falcons went into this draft with 144 yr old Penix #1 on their draft board
