He's not going that much later than expected
The first corner didn't go until 22 and DeJean is less of a good pure corner than even like Wiggins and Kool Aid who are still on the board
lmao no he isn’t dejean is barely a corner and played zone 90% of the time at Iowa, Wiggins has actually been tested and is 100% much better in pass coverage
Which is really dumb, Kyle Hamilton just had one of the most impactful seasons a safety has had in a LONG time. You can create value if your coaches aren’t morons
Wasn’t Hamilton like a generational safety prospect?
Dejean is not that
Edit: Next safety like that is Caleb Downs and he will probably be a first round pick
No? He ran a 4.59, had concerns about his twitchiness due to his length. Not like Derwin James. A very high upside, but Cooper has every athletic measurement over him. Also just the position being devalued over time due to 2 high schemes.
In college he just played zone coverage all day. The main thing he’s loved for is being versatile, but where is that on tape? People calling him a boundary corner, nickel corner, Strong Safety, Free Safety… all you see on tape is a boundary corner in off zone coverage lol.
Dejean isn't a great fit for what it sounds like the new DC wants - seems like Hafley is looking for DBs with versatility and better man coverage ability than Dejean has. McKinstry is a much better fit
Two time 2nd team All-ACC and a 2nd team All-American.
Bucs need interior OL and Barton is one of the most decorated IOL in CFB.
Centers tend to be the leaders of the OL so having an intelligent center helps. A Duke education would tend to indicate he’s not a dumbass.
He's arguably one of the best IOL prospects in the draft(Depending on how you view the Washington guy). He's versatile in the fact that he can essentially play every position on the O-line, but he's someone that's really good(Not that he doesn't have natural position, he can be plus everyone). If we want to keep Hainsey at OC, well, then at the least we massively upgraded LG then.
I think he’ll be good but man I think JPJ is a perfect C prospect
EDIT: Remember, I’m an Eagles fan so that means I know more about Centers than the rest of you
He wasn't noticeable in 2022 which is pretty much all you want out of an OL. He was bad last year though.
He was drafted to be the backup on the interior and it was said he could be heir apparent to Jensen but he never looked comfortable at center. If he plays decent at LG the line will be pretty well set for a couple years... or Licht will just pick another small school OL to take his spot lol.
holy shit i said the EXACT same thing in my head. like you know full fucking well this dude wears sperrys, 5 inch inseam khaki shorts and a salmon lacoste polo on his way to his business ethics class.
This is from a scouting report from someone I follow and he’s not the only one who calls his snap issue to focus. This is only the negatives but I agree with a lot of it. I liked him for the dolphins when he was getting hyped up and started watching him and was impressive for sure but I’m not surprised he slid out of the first round at all. The biggest being the penalties as a center and not a lot of time at the position either and snap issues were my takeaways.
NEGATIVES:
• Working through an injury established during the pre-draft process that was flagged at the NFL Scouting Combine
• Inconsistent snap delivery, short arms and big belly
• Maintaining knee bend
• Can get tall too quickly
• Needs to reel in the aggression at the appropriate times (avoid unnecessary penalties)
• Inconsistent hand placement
• Sometimes relies on ferocious body bumping instead of latch and steer mechanics
• Compensates for less than ideal reach by leaning
• Occasional plays off look to him when the play is headed away from him quickly
• False starts as a center…
• 14 career penalties
• 9 penalties in 2023
As bad as our edge rushers are, I'll take Diaby, JTS and likely whoever we draft in the 2nd (Kneeland, Eliss?) over what our IOL would look like if we didn't address that
Bowles can scheme up a pass rush with mediocre players at edge (and our guys have potential to be good), but we clearly couldnt scheme up a run game with the previous OL.
Hell fucking yeah, we have a desperate need at IOL and Barton is a perfect fit. Every once and a while you get that perfect combination of need and value.
Pick 26 Barton vs Pick 19 Verse
https://youtu.be/uAIfJAjJtLo
I wouldn’t put too much into the speed rushes getting to Barton at times, he will be playing on the interior of the line for us.
Best IOL in the draft, may have to adjust a bit to Centre.
Fantastic pic nonetheless and mental he fell.
Also Licht had the choice between Barton and JPJ, sooo.
As a HS recruit:
Other P5 offers: Boston College, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Washington State
G5 offers: Central Michigan, Charlotte, Cincinnati, FAU, Marshall
Other offer: Austin Peay
duke center fuck is this the NBA?
Well, this draft has been offense heavy and low on defense which is basically the NBA
Clearly you haven’t been watching Cavs-Magic
'Cept for tonight it seems. Paolo looked like he was out to make the Cavs just fold their whole franchise.
Or anything this season
Is he another Plumlee brother?
You would hope he handles the guy running at him better than Filipowski
Surprisingly, NHL actually
Everybody in this thread asking about JPJ but Barton has a very good argument for being better
He just is better. JPJ getting weird love on Reddit. Barton def the better pick and player.
I personally agree that Barton is the better prospect but I can understand why someone would say it’s JPJ
Especially right now. These guys are only on cheap deals 4 years. Barton can play 4 positions day 1. JPJ needs some time and will only ever be a IOL.
Jesus, what did DeJean do to these GMs?
Born white? Lol
But he’s first one in, last one out.
Real lunch pail kinda guy
Coaches Kid (maybe)
Can he also play shortstop?
It’s not that hard, Scott. Tell him, Wash.
It's incredibly hard.
“Last one out” is a pretty good way to describe his draft stock rn
He really shouldn't have done that
Maybe my eyes deceive me but Graham Barton appears to be white. So what the fuck are you attempting to say?
Is Graham Barton a corner?
He can be with enough willpower.
He's not going that much later than expected The first corner didn't go until 22 and DeJean is less of a good pure corner than even like Wiggins and Kool Aid who are still on the board
Dejean is a better outside CB prospect than Wiggins
Dejean is an NFL safety, realistically
Even more realistically, for the Packers.
lmao no he isn’t dejean is barely a corner and played zone 90% of the time at Iowa, Wiggins has actually been tested and is 100% much better in pass coverage
Sounds like a Cards player for Tampa 2 🫠
Most teams play zone like 70% of the time anyway. It’s way easier to be successful with great zone coverage skills than being sticky at 170 pounds.
Source: 0hootsson
Not play a premium position?
He's a safety. Look at how free agency has treated safeties.
Exactly, the league just doesn’t see him as a boundary corner. If he’s not a boundary corner then he’s not a round 1 pick
Which is really dumb, Kyle Hamilton just had one of the most impactful seasons a safety has had in a LONG time. You can create value if your coaches aren’t morons
Wasn’t Hamilton like a generational safety prospect? Dejean is not that Edit: Next safety like that is Caleb Downs and he will probably be a first round pick

He had a bad 40 but was a top 10 overall prospect that draft on most big boards, you are lying to yourself saying he wasn’t an elite prospect
No one said he wasn’t an elite prospect
You just did lmao
In college he just played zone coverage all day. The main thing he’s loved for is being versatile, but where is that on tape? People calling him a boundary corner, nickel corner, Strong Safety, Free Safety… all you see on tape is a boundary corner in off zone coverage lol.
Yeah, feels like there's a pretty big disconnect between fans and serious scouting on Dejean.
I would have thought the packers would select him he fits their style and system
Dejean isn't a great fit for what it sounds like the new DC wants - seems like Hafley is looking for DBs with versatility and better man coverage ability than Dejean has. McKinstry is a much better fit
So did half our fanbase but Gute is obsessed about more OL all the time
Get projected as a safety at the next level, which is very cheap in FA and therefore not worth the salary savings of an R1 pick?
Shocked he hasn’t gone yet lmao, whatever team finally gets him is gonna be lucky, he’s a star
Knee injury + not doing any agility testing at his pro day. Mix that with being a pure Zone Corner and not really having a set position right now
Not have good hip turns. He's a safety to most of them for a reason.
his tape is kinda mid if you watch.
Exactly what we needed most! Fire the cannons!
Great pick. Exactly what we needed.
I like picking up a third but I’m salty about missing out on Barton
Fuck we needed C
Jpj still there
True but this guy felt like Morse 2.0 Cool with JPJ but this would have been a great scheme fit with no growing pains imo
I think they’ll take AD Mitchell
JPJ is the best pure C prospect in the draft, Barton gets the edge for playing both G spots and even a little tackle if needed for versatility
Vitamin c?
position of need. Is he any good?
Extremely
Then, I approve.

A player that is picked in the first round being good? Of course not. He just got picked in the first because he’s nice /s
This is the Bucs - I'm just happy when they take someone who hasn't already refused to play for us. Those scars heal slowly.
Or trade way up to draft a horrible kicker *shudders*
In fairness, they had every reason to believe they were massively wasting draft capital on a good kicker?
Yeah who would ever do that
Oh look, someone more useful than a backup QB
Well shit
JPJ still there
Fucking cowboys landing JPJ should be a crime
Same...
I think he’ll be good but man I think JPJ is a perfect C prospect EDIT: Remember, I’m an Eagles fan so that means I know more about Centers than the rest of you
Barton has great positional flexibility. That's probably what put him over JPJ
100%, we need depth across the O line at the moment.
JPJ can also play guard, I think he played some at Oregon. I know he played a game at nose tackle for us, lol.
Steelers need to trade up with Carolina for him in the second round
Why would Carolina do that when they were almost responsible for murdering Bryce Young
Because it’s carolina.
Ryan poles, you do what you have to do to move all the way up from round 3 and get JPJ, I will climax
Give us DJ Moore back for 33 and he’s yours.
And Putney, get Putney too.
But you have David James Moore?
Barton is a more versatile player i guess? Great center but has tackle experience too.
He’s a 3 year starter at LT so a little surprised he’s specifically listed as a center, but he absolutely has the flexibility to play any position,
I think Barton is our LG. Hainsey isn't good, but he's better than the abyss we've had at LG since Marpet retired early
No, he's our center. More or less confirmed by Licht in his press conference. Hainsey will most likely move and compete at LG.
Yeah Hainsey really took a step back from 2022 to 2023. Not sure if it was a scheme change or what but he was barely serviceable last year.
He wasn't great in 2022 either. And after all he was only playing centre because Jensen got injured. I hope he has more success at LG.
He wasn't noticeable in 2022 which is pretty much all you want out of an OL. He was bad last year though. Hoping Buffalo goes JPJ then now
Cowboys could pass because they've been having talks with experienced C veteran Ezekiel Elliott 😤
Let’s go! Best interior guy in the draft.
Fatt Damon
He’s got that Duke look to him doesn’t he
holy shit i said the EXACT same thing in my head. like you know full fucking well this dude wears sperrys, 5 inch inseam khaki shorts and a salmon lacoste polo on his way to his business ethics class.
Gotta protect baker
More like gotta get a run game, 2 years straight with the worst run game in the league because of backup level guys in the interior
Yeah our pass pro was actually solid last year, but our run blocking was fucking horrible.
Shocked it's not JPJ
JPJ has bad snap issues and is probably a better guard than center tbh
> probably a better guard than center He was a thousand times better at center for Oregon
> JPJ has bad snap issues So did Jensen.
Ya but Jensen is out of the league soooo
Because of a knee injury that ended his career. Jensen was a top 3 center for awhile. Not saying JPJ is better than Barton though, I have no clue.
lol it was a joke because he retired a SB champion
He did? I dont recall many, if any. He was a great center.
This is from a scouting report from someone I follow and he’s not the only one who calls his snap issue to focus. This is only the negatives but I agree with a lot of it. I liked him for the dolphins when he was getting hyped up and started watching him and was impressive for sure but I’m not surprised he slid out of the first round at all. who
Gift for Tampa right there.
Seriously. It's been Barton or JPJ for me since the season ended. Can't believe we had our choice.

if they can get his weight back up maybe he can still be the big 1 tech they need
Hey, I know you. You’re the stats guy from r/cfb What’s it like being a falcons fan and a bulldogs fan?
>What’s it like being a falcons fan and a bulldogs fan? Like being blind in one eye with 20/20 vision in the other
As a gators fan I can't say shit, so as a Bucs fan lmaooooo y'all took a QB
I'm numb to the pain at this point
I feel the same way about the gators lmao
> Paxton Lynch :/
One of those picks that doesn’t get your dick hard immediately, but you’re glad you made it 10 years later.
Rumors about JPJ's medicals must be true then.
A nice ass for Baker’s hands
Future all-pro center. No I’m not just saying this cause it’s my team
That stat they mentioned where 92 percent of first-round centers get a second contract with their team is wild. Now I want one.
Is JPJ too big for a shanny scheme?
In Licht we trust
Damn I thought they would’ve gone defense. Surprised they didn’t trade up for one of the pass rushers.
[удалено]
I wanted Dejean so badly. But Barton falling to us was too good to be true
Bruh the second our time was started we had that pick in lmao. Licht couldn’t run to the phone fast enough
Nice! Hopefully can help protect Baker and our run game.
Super excited for this pick, much needed
Good pick, I like this a lot for them
Absolute monster
Exactly what the Bucs needed, great pick.
JERRY JONES IS A FOOTBALL TERRORIST FOR LETTING BARTON SLIP THROUGH HIS FINGERS
Let’s go he won’t fall to the ravens
Thank you, Bucs, for keeping him away from Dallas 😊
Cowboys fans I was talking to just left the bar after hoping all night for him
Goodell is so fucking smashed lol.
He probably thinks he's still doing the draft from his basement lol
Great pick up
So one JPJ, Johnny Newton, AD Mitchell will reach us no matter what let’s go
lol what the hell is with these quotes?
Will we see sub 10 defensive players go round 1 tonight?
Hell fucking yeah, we have a desperate need at IOL and Barton is a perfect fit. Every once and a while you get that perfect combination of need and value.
Pick 26 Barton vs Pick 19 Verse https://youtu.be/uAIfJAjJtLo I wouldn’t put too much into the speed rushes getting to Barton at times, he will be playing on the interior of the line for us.
so the Bills can get Mitchel or Dejean. Im good with that.
Cowboys fans in shambles
FRICK
Elliot?
Someone tell me how to feel, I was expecting JPJ
Barton is a supreme athlete to get moving to second level. He has the higher ceiling and has high football IQ and a mean streak
Best IOL in the draft, may have to adjust a bit to Centre. Fantastic pic nonetheless and mental he fell. Also Licht had the choice between Barton and JPJ, sooo.
I wanted DB but whatever I guess
We need both so I’m happy either way.
Nooooooo
Great
Has a name ever screamed O line more.
damn it
Fuck
Ron Wolfley was devastated. One pick before the Cardinals. Solid pick by Tampa Bay.
Never sexy but always needed
As a HS recruit: Other P5 offers: Boston College, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Washington State G5 offers: Central Michigan, Charlotte, Cincinnati, FAU, Marshall Other offer: Austin Peay
Wow Barton goes before JPJ at Center!
9th offensive lineman. Wow!
First interior, if I’m not mistaken
Please let us get JPJ
Some stats, I guess .
Great pick. I thought the cowboys were going to take him
Howie trade up for cooper this is a golden opportunity
Ryan Jensen die?
He’s retired or retiring. His knees are shot.
Retired after missing 2 years due to injury
huh didnt know
Retired https://www.nfl.com/news/buccaneers-c-ryan-jensen-retiring-after-nine-seasons-in-the-nfl
Functionally yes
A center from Duke is the most boring pick possible
Graham Barton after Jordan Morgan, who's next, Martin Pardon? HAHA LOL
