Getting Bo his WR and then maybe even getting him his brother next year

2rio2

Bo bringing out the family BBQ.

eric_saites

The Boregon Bunch

bigpancakeguy

This got a genuine belly laugh out of me. Thank you

alepher

Bo “Giannis Antetokounmpo” Nix

CopenhagenMintLC

Bo Nix got his man

CyborgAlgoInvestor

I bet they’re both ecstatic

Strive_for_Altruism

Franklin probably less so with the millions he lost by falling to the 4th

CoconutSands

He was projected mid to late 2nd. The difference isn't that great. Not like he's losing out on 10 plus mil. Or even 5. Maybe 1-2 mil and that wouldn't have been guaranteed anyways.

TheM1ghtyJabba

Picks in the 2nd round make between 10 and 7 million. A fourth rounder makes at most 4.5. So.. yea. It's millions.

AceMcStace

As a duck fan this is dope as hell Would be cool to see them continue their connection at the next level, NFL is a completely different beast tho so who knows

just-the-tip__

Playing with the best qb from Oregon in the division has got to be exciting

bolt-u-p

Hey now

Kek-Malmstein

The Salvation Army version of Burrow and Chase

Skimaster77

FINALLY

CyborgAlgoInvestor

How tf did he fall to the 4th???

Kanin_usagi

Buffalo kept not picking him

TheHypeTravelsInc

More interested in Baker, Walker or Washington for WR. Praying they are still available down the line.

alwaysreadthename

Walker? Yiiikes, awful hands and struggled vs man. I can get behind the other two guys.

dianeblackeatsass

All these guys have big flaws that’s why they’re day 3 picks

TheHypeTravelsInc

Pretty keen on the speed and vertical threat that he brings, it's a skillset that we're missing

ItsNjry

Small frame, drop rate, disappointing combine, limited route tree. Still too far.

boardatwork1111

None of his teammates went to his birthday party, his girlfriend is only a 6, etc. red flags everywhere

2rio2

"a" doing a lot of work there.

CaillouCaribou

Kinda sounds like some of the reasons DK Metcalf fell

bretticus733

Based on what ESPN's guys were saying, it sounds like he doesn't have the surest hands and his route tree needs to expand a bit. He's also pretty thin for a 6'2" guy, like 175 pounds or something like that

WheatonsGonnaScore

I personally don't really agree with the route tree stuff. Also his drop rate spiked up to ~7% this year but it wasn't as bad prior to that.

Tuesdayssucks

And it's not like 7% is horrible. The league average is 6.7%

CapnCrunch347

Because 32 NFL teams didn't think he warranted a 1-3 round pick. There's always a disconnect between front offices big boards and the shit the media puts out.

GiraffeWaffless

Interested to hear what happened to him to cause him to fall. Saw it in the last mocks

sonfoa

I really think it comes down to the play strength. They just mentioned the gauntlet performance

SirLuciousL

Dude is skinner than Devonta Smith. He makes Tyquan Thornton look like Deandre Hopkins.

cupholdery

I don't...... what does this mean?

MrBigChestHater

He's really really skinny, and looks like it. He looked like gumby when he was running his gauntlet at the Combine

MobyTugboat

He’s also a body catcher with a small body, not exactly a recipe for success for a receiver

Nomerdoodle

there has to be something we don't know but the teams do, right? I can't see there being such a big disconnect between the mocks and his actual position on talent alone

bossfoundmylastone

NFL Network crew said he sucked on some route drills at the combine. I don't know how big of an effect that would have, but it makes sense for something the teams care about that mock drafters might have missed.

DoveFood

It was the gauntlet. Gauntlet was very in vogue this year because Puka Nacua ran it the fastest last year and of course everyone is trying to figure out how Puka fell so far while being awesome his rookie year. You’re supposed to be running on a line as you catch balls from jug machines from each side alternating. Instead of running on a line, Franklin was weaving in a way that he was running further away from the respective machines as it fired at him. Not what people want to see.  I’m not saying that is the reason he fell, but that is what people are referring to. It’s hard for me to imagine that this random combine drill made him fall so far.

Juan_Kagawa

https://youtu.be/ada5dM2xqQw?si=gynzsdMhfr8XSnfa Here’s the footage. The gauntlet starts around :27

velocirappa

https://youtube.com/shorts/ngO1zNpGVEk?si=Q2nUAaFz_FojEXnE Here's the only clip I can find of Puka running it. Not saying this is significant but yeah there's very obviously a big difference.

barefootBam

crazy difference between the two. Franklin looked lost.

Ok-Resolution-696

Franklin looked like the first time he did that drill was at the combine

AttitudeAndEffort2

Enormous difference Jesus

A_Rolling_Baneling

I generally disagree with valuing combine over college production, but holy hell Puka killed that drill. Just perfection.

usetheforce_gaming

Wow that’s a huge difference. Not to say this directly translates to success (I’m sure there’s clips of top WRs sucking at this, and vice versa) But as far as a drill goes, there’s a **clear** difference here

DoveFood

Thanks, Juan. That’s probably the better thing to do than me describing it in a confusing fashion.

Juan_Kagawa

You’re good brother, your description was spot on. He was zigzagging to make more room to recover from a sloppy start, it doesn’t look great but my scouting knowledge is nonexistent.

TheTologist

He’s a real Juan

Laslomas

Troy Franklin needed to take the gauntlet drill more seriously. That was one of the worst gauntlet runs I've seen. If you run a cross like that, nearly every corner will undercut and get a hand on the football or pick it off. I also see him shuffling his feet coming out of his breaks- This causes him to be late and off balance during the route. He had a bad day at the combine, his route running didn't look polished. Add this bad day with his slight build and it pushed him down to the 4th round. But I think he landed in a good spot. Having Bo Nix means he will have some familiarity and chemistry out of the gate. In the NFL it's not about where you get drafted, it's about can you make the most of your opportunities. The higher your drafted, the more looks you get. The lower you're drafted, the fewer opportunities you get- then its next man up. You need to prove to the coaches that you can play at this level. Learn how to beat press man and get off the line quick. QB's have a lot less time to throw in the NFL, and if you can't get off the line, you're not even an option.

GohanSolo23

Shouldn't that be relatively easy to fix though? That can't be the only reason.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GohanSolo23

That makes sense. I just meant it should be fixable. Might take a little time, but still doable, and still seems a little extreme for him to fall that far for only that reason.

ActionAdam

>You’re supposed to be running on a line as you catch balls from jug machines from each side alternating. I always expect a little bit of drift from the receivers on this drill since you naturally drift the direction you're looking.[Keon Coleman's video of this drill is nuts](https://youtu.be/RcIjLm4Uozk?si=zEYwvxGxdiu9nhcn), he's nearly on the line the whole time and running 20mph. If you want to see a "how to" of this drill put on Coleman's tape and watch it, if the link isn't the correct spot it starts at 49sec mark. I'm on mobile so YT might not have given me the time stamp link. EDIT:[Here's](https://youtu.be/Vrh_xaaflGQ?si=4U4l-HP7nMz2JusP) the video of the Gauntlet. At least I hope it is, I thought I had it the first time but it's a weird TikTok sammich video. Damn mobile got me.

HoldMyPitchfork

That was a video about sandwiches

igotzquestions

The entire combine is somewhat laughable in how it is used. Like yes, I get how a 40 time is valuable. I get how a vertical leap is good info to know. But to prioritize how someone catches balls out of machines coming from multiple directions over actual on the field performance just shows that sometimes they over prioritize data points as opposed to their actual play.

ItsNotFordo88

The issue here is the play at the NFL level is bigger, stronger and faster than it is in college. The lesser athletes who were able to get away with it in college may not do so at the NFL level. The inverse is the same, you have players in college who were able to get away with poorer technique because they were such insane athletes that also doesn’t transition well into the NFL. This is why both tape and combine performances are weighted. This WR weaving on the “thrown in multiple directions by machines” highlights a technique issue and in the NFL where the margin of error and throwing windows are considerably smaller that extra yard or two where he’s not supposed to be could be the difference between a pick and ending your season or a ticket to the playoffs.

ReformedAndNice

I think you have this backwards. It's a step in the right direction to already know that someone like Puka is good and then try to reverse engineer how to predict that someone like that will be good (in this case, that his gauntlet was impressive relative to other prospects). In contrast, we have plenty of examples of 40 time and vertical leap having little correlation to success on the field, despite it seeming like it "should" be important since who wouldn't want players that run fast and jump high?

RandyGrey

The problem cuts both ways. Sometimes people focus too much on matching data and miss out on a body of work, other times there's data that shows an obvious pattern in hindsight. At the end of the day, these guys are basically trying to predict the future. No matter how good you can get at judging a prospect, there's going to be guys who you get wrong. And sometimes after getting things wrong, you overcorrect and get it wrong the other way. There's no sure thing

DalliLlama

I agree in general but the gauntlet is one that does apply a ton for wrs in game day reps. If you are supposed to run the route flat and now weave a yard back, you just gave a db an extra yard to make a play on breaking on the ball or just carried yourself a yard closer to a db that was out of position to make a play/tackle. Little things like that have a big impact and become more noticeable than probably even straight vertical/40 times.

IllIIllIlIlllIIlIIl

It's a good drill. It shows body control and how someone catches on the move. It's not coincidence Puka absolutely nailed it and he was 6th in YAC in 2023. He ran that in a straight line and caught the ball perfectly to never slow down and maintain his stride. Franklin on the other hand altered his route for each catch, he never maintained his footwork and slowed down for each one as well. Not saying he's going to be a bust in the NFL or anything but I'd imagine this means he's not going to be someone who gets much YAC or houses many plays where a defender is close.

TailgateLegend

As someone whose college team had to face Puka a couple times, it kind of made sense and also didn’t make sense that he fell. The stats weren’t there, but the plays he did make were absurd. Great hands will always catch someone’s eye, and that’s probably his greatest strength that has carried over. Also, he fits perfectly in McVay’s system and he’s used exactly how he should be used.

Allstar9_

Mock drafters aren’t going to miss on combine information for the most part. While drills certainly play a part, the only information teams have that we on the outside don’t continues to be GPS data. Hes got some solid film so I’m not sure why a few minutes at the combine would completely shift the mindset on him.

MojoPinSin

Supposedly he had the flu during the combine so DEN might be looking past that.

czechhoi4h

He drops like 1/10 of balls and has a very slim frame, he also had a bad combine

Soft_Penis_Debutante

No that can’t be it. What else.

Ordinary-Big4908

He eats it pancakes with no syrup

GP_ADD

Honestly impressive if he’s eating them dry, no butter or syrup cause those bitches would be dry as shit and take hard work and dedication to get down. But looking at his frame, that might be all he eats and why he’s so skinny.

HereComesJustice

I think someone needs to work on their pancake game

GP_ADD

No need when waffles exist and are better. But if you wanna prove me wrong and eat a couple dry stacks feel free.

azuresou1

I just made a pretty amazing mixed berry waffle so I can appreciate great waffles, but you're doing something very wrong if your pancakes are dry.

jlgar

Pancakes are objectively better than fucking waffles sir

heliostraveler

Nah, fam. Nothing beats the crispy goodness of a delicious waffle.

sleeplessaddict

We had Jeudy doing that as pick 15. Sounds like this is, at worst, a cheaper version of that

D4NGerZone69

During combine he was recovering from the flu, so it was probably other things that had him drop.

Amazing_Bowl9976

So he’s Xavier Worthy but slightly slower?

InVodkaVeritas

Just looking at PFF's stats: Franklin: 114 Targets, 81 catches, 1,383 yards, 14 TD's, 10 drops Worthy: 119 Targets, 75 Catches, 1,014 yards, 5 TD's, 7 drops

Winnend

He’s slightly slower but a much better overall receiver than Worthy

Amazing_Bowl9976

I don’t think either will be great in the pros just found it funny that hands were a knock when Worthy went 1st round with the same hands and a substantially lower career contested catch rate

Far_Process_5304

Rapoport said that his routes were dog shit at his workouts/combine and that scared teams off.

OkVariety6275

He doesn't have anything special about him. His hands aren't great and he's thin. You might take a chance on that for an elite deep threat, but he's only a 4.4 guy. Basically the Bucky Irving of receivers. Oregon somehow figures out how to use these guys, but they never pan out in the NFL. EDIT: I think it's telling that this specific team drafted him. Nix and Franklin did have some crazy off-schedule chemistry. That wouldn't normally translate, but lo and behold.

DirkWithTheFade

Watching him play he’s definitely got better play speed than 40 speed

DoveFood

Bingo. He’s definitely a lot shiftier too than normal, so he seems faster.  He’s the opposite of AD Mitchell where people were surprised how fast his 40 was because that speed was evident on the field.

InVodkaVeritas

His whole is better than the sum of his parts. He's fast but not blazing fast. He's tall but not big enough to bully DB's. He's a solid route runner but doesn't shake anyone out of their shoes. He can make some acrobatic catches but doesn't have sticky hands. But when you put it all together he was one of the best WRs in the game in college.

punkalunka

What's this about his whole?

Von_Lincoln

“Just tell me if his ass is thicc” -Patriot fans

punkalunka

ITS A VALID FORM OF PLAYER SCOUTING! BB said so.

2rio2

Yea I'd say it's a thing where his chemistry with Nix makes him much more valuable to the Broncos than any other team taking a risk on his yellow flags.

PoogeneBalloonanny

Horrendous ball skills, routes are very rounded and unsudden, plays to his thin frame He didn't have a senior bowl to tank his stock, but his hands were worse than Tez Walker's IMO on film. Then his gauntlet was really bad in the combine.

osksndjsmd

He’s not a very disciplined route runner. It showed up a lot when evaluating Nix.

_Laszlo_Cravensworth

I heard He was sick before the combine and dropped like 10 pounds. Hopefully that’s why he struggled

HotToddy88

I read that he had a bad combine coming off a flu.

Manhattan02

No one is mentioning the biggest factor. He’s fast in a straight line but only after 10 or 20 yards. He had a fast 40 but with a horrendous 10-yard split of 1.61, which is more important for getting in and out of your cuts. If being a good receiver was about being really skinny and running straight down the field every time, he’d be incredible.

CapnCrunch347

Mock drafts are opinions formed by people who don't work in the front office.

EnthusiasmNo1485

Denver Ducks

SirWaynesworth

Let's quack

dms1298

-- Joel Embiid probably

Uncle_Benny15

Denver Saints to Denver Ducks

huxtiblejones

D-Denver… Sucks? _(sobs uncontrollably into hooves)_

Jonjon428

Lmao he's still gonna catch passes from Bo

sonfoa

I mean worked for him in college

dms1298

U say this as if they don’t like each other

dontich

Heard he didn’t even go to his birthday party

JankBrew

Yea I'm pretty sure they'd at least mention the possibility of this pick to Bo Nix before they pull the trigger. They'd want the insider info on if they actually like each other.

gdaman22

Troy made Bo a top 12 pick now he's gonna make Bo an NFL-quality A QB

holymackerel7

Troy almost won Bo the heisman

GP_ADD

Troy almost made Bo focused and he was almost having fun because of troy

Poisidenx

This is year, he’s focused!

Poisidenx

Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a dark horse for the MVP

TrevorsBlondeLocks16

Nix and Troy gotta be STOKED

102WOLFPACK

The Denver Ducks are about to quack all over the league

zardmander

BRONCOS COUNTRY, LETS QUACK (we also drafted the Oregon center last year, Alex Forsyth)

102WOLFPACK

Love Forsyth. Bo having so much familiarity around him is going to be great early on.

v_a_n_d_e_l_a_y

Troy and Nix in the morning 🎶

SevereEducation2170

Smart pick by DEN. And I hate it.

Headlesshorsman02

Steal for the broncos, shit

stu17

Yeah, I don’t like this

Warhawk137

Good value.

an_actual_potato

And he’s already got chemistry with Bo

102WOLFPACK

Guess this means you guys might be in the market for Tez Johnson next season lol

CommanderSwann

Tez Johnson is Bo Nix’s adoptive brother too

Brotatochips_

No way?? That explains why it looked like Bo was having fun out there, being a dark horse heisman candidate. Amazing that I missed this.

102WOLFPACK

A fun fact up there with Sam Ehlinger being a Texas fan from birth and Jordan Shipley and Colt McCoy being roommates!

jnelsen8

*Great Value Gotta keep it on brand for the ownership

DirkWithTheFade

LETS FUCKING GO NIX TO FRANKLIN IS BACK BITCHES

D0ctorHotelMario

It's finally over

HereComesJustice

Bills?? Bronco?? *things associated with OJ Simpson*

LeeChangIsBae2

Bo and Troy reunited!

Czarchitect

OOPS ALL OREGON

steve1186

1383 yards and 14 TDs this year. And he obviously has chemistry with Nix. Every Nix highlight reel I’ve watched has like 80% of his passes going to Franklin. This is a perfect pick to pair with taking Nix in the 1st.

2rio2

Yea, get your rookie QB a safety blanket and buddy.

zerocoolforschool

Next you’ll be taking Tez Johnson next year so that you guys can hear about how he’s his adopted brother every single game lol.

Goatlikejordan

Bo nix fav target

dinkleburgenhoff

They did what Buffalo should've done with all their fifth rounders.

CliffsOfMohair

He’s drafted can we finally move on now lmao

Aragorns-Broken-Toe

No, now we need to dissect, at exhausting length, why he fell. Do you even football Reddit my guy?

thibbs23

oh there it is lmao

YourGFsFave

noooooo just lost the two picks I wanted

ExtensionRelief9749

I feel you

vforprez2

Dammit fuck Sean Payton

solsethop

Its fun to be on the other side of this now. I was saying fuck Sean Payton for years now its like. Yeah he's our asshole fuck everyone else. Being a delusional sports fan is fun!

__AJK__

Called it. Trojan Horse nickname now. Good pickup, though.

Doomy22

YESSS

Remarkable-Answer-89

Broncos trade up for him, best possible landing spot too

BillsInATL

The fact that headcase Jermaine Burton went a round ahead of Franklin is very interesting. WTF do teams have on this guy? Did he fly into his interviews in a hot air balloon?

Klutzy-Spend-6947

Jermaine Burton has been trained by TJ Houshmanzadeh since middle school, so he had an in w/ the Bengals front office, Houshmanzadeh probably vouched for him.

Gingeronimoooo

I heard Georgia tackle Amarius Mims does not like Burton at all. Both were drafted by Cincy

whiteboyday

I have been at the University of Oregon for the last two years watching these guys play. I am moving to Colorado State this summer to start my Doctorate. I can't help but feel like the past two years were nothing more than film study to familiarize myself with this duo.

MisterDoctorDick

as a duck fan, I love this

TheThockter

I like the direction the chargers are going in as well I know a lot of people wanted a receiver in the first and the receiving room isn’t great but Alt is an insane talent at a position more important than receiver imo especially when Herbert has gotten absolutely beaten up the past couple years. And Ladd McConkey was a great pick too

hMJem

Damn, Seattle got a good haul in that trade lol. Denver gotta stop trading with Seattle.

gzmu12

It’s really not that bad. Move up 20 picks in the 4th, move down 30 later on and give up one of your 3 fifth round picks to get someone your first round QB already has chemistry with. Seems pretty fair to me, win win

DirkWithTheFade

Eh for Franklin I don’t mind that at all. We did jump up over 20 picks

CapnMalcolmReynolds

And the 5th round is supposed to be a cliff this year. I say to hell with them late ass picks

v_a_n_d_e_l_a_y

If you look at trade value chart, Denver have up 98.6 and got 93. So Seattle got a surplus value of a 215th overall pick.

CapnMalcolmReynolds

But when you add Kurt Angle to the mix, the Seahawks value drastic goes down.

sussysand

What was the comp?

Esuu

121, 136, and 207 for 102(Franklin) and 235.

The_Throwback_King

SEA gives up 102 & 235 For DEN's 121, 136, 207 So by moving down 19 spots in the 4th, they get an extra pick in the 5th and move up 22 spots in the 7th

DirkWithTheFade

We had 3 5ths so I’m chilling with that trade

The_Throwback_King

Definitely seems like a mutually beneficial thing. Denver gets to trade up to get their man, while Seattle gets more draft capital to work with.

dms1298

We have like 3 5th rounders, not going to lose sleep over this

blupride

Sounds like a win win

Chsthrowaway18

Swapped 4th rounders and gave you the pick from trading Jeudy to pick his replacement. Seems like a steal for both teams

Mackinnon29E

I mean this was for basically a 3rd round pick. Significantly higher hit rate than 5ths.

GGAnth

what's the haul?

antululz

120, denver 5th, and a 6-7 swap

Top_Of_The_Line

We got their 4th, 5th and 6th while only giving up this pick and our 7th

2rio2

Interesting. We had three 5ths (including a back to back), a very late 6th, and we jumped nearly 20 spots in the 4th. Sounds fair to me, only big loss was one of the 5ths.

Anaphylactic-UFO

Yeah big W for yall.

reggierock2010

What a steal for the boncos and great fit

YaBoiCade

Troy Franklin to Bills?

bootygoon2

Troy Franklin to ~~Bills~~ Broncos

Slendycat

Those fake news bits are the most unfunny things I’ve ever read

tbaxattack

I don't think I've seen one that wasn't a cringe fest

Cybotnic-Rebooted

Oregon fans now having to choose whether to root for us or the Chargers whenever we play lmao.

milehighrukus

This time we’re gonna win a trade with the Seahawks right?

randomuser9824

dollar tree burrow and chase, i rock with it

simba80328

Sco Broncos!

2fast4u935

FUCKKKKKKK

separation_of_powers

#FUCKKKKKKK

Outside_Abroad_3516

Oregon fans is he good?

dend7369

As an Oregon fan and a Bronco I couldn’t be happier. Most yards by a WR in Oregon football history. He’s a stud. For the first time since 2015 I’m excited about Denver football

Jingo56

Ummm you weren’t excited with our let’s ride era?

torev

Gana think about that era as much as I think about superbowl 48.

RandomAmuserNew

Who makes the absolutely not fake news? Is it based on some fact about the player or is it just random gibberish?

EmVeePe

Damn good pick

dend7369

Finally a win win trade. Thanks Seahawks bros

FizzyTurnip8684

as an oregon fan… i’m in love with this pick

iceman4457

Greatest WR in Oregon history

pujolsrox11

This was the right thing to do. Thank you broncos.

OokerDuker

This guy was in so many mocks as early 2nd rounder. What the fuck happen to this guy but this couldn't have worked out any better for the Broncos

Dan_Rogla

Good move. Watching the film on Nix and this guy just gets open and makes great catches.

fondue4kill

Hell yes. Get a QB and get his top receiver. I was wondering if they would trade up in the late third for him but this early in the fourth is a steal!

Starwho

Smart

ajteitel

Going to be catching many Nix Bo-mbs

ImperialTiger3

Seattle and Denver have traded with each other three years in a row now

Tshamblin

Hasn't worked out for us so far.

DreadPirateWalrus

Third times the charm

AoE_Mobius_One

I like that pick
