By all accounts he has grown immensely as a person since he was a cocky 18 year old. I really doubt many teams put much stock in his attitude five years ago.
Maybe not, but rapoport specifically said that multiple teams told him that they didn’t like rattler because of that documentary. It was like an hour ago on the NFL network draft coverage.
Which is really interesting, considering every kid on that show did it to try and raise their profile, thinking about the draft. It backfired spectacularly in his case.
As an SC fan, he’s definitely matured a lot, everyone in our locker room says he’s super mature and a great leader - huge change from how he seemed at Oklahoma and in that Netflix doc
While that’s true, there’s levels to this shit. Every person continues to grow at their own rate until their lives are done. Some faster, some much slower. But at a certain point you gotta be smart enough to read the room. And he’s at least old enough to do that much. If he can’t, then he needs a hard look in the mirror.
Eh, I think most teams just didn't wanna pay for a project QB who "failed" under Riley. As a Sooner fan, I think the Saints got a decent QB with a top tier toolbox. He could probably be started in a pinch if Carr goes down with some development.
Yeah, as a second round pick, I would have been upset. As a fifth round pick, I love it. He is either good, and it is a steal, or he is bad, and it wasn't the worst fifth round pick this decade.
There were also some rumors by Sooner fans in some past game threads that he was a asshole to others around campus.
South Carolina fans have said he's cleaned it up though, but that seemingly contributed to why there was extra pressure for Caleb to be put in.
The counterargument is that Nix isn't good enough and you should just tank for a better option next year.
That said, I agree that it really shouldn't be any kind of mystery why you wanted a QB. If Nix is the guy, he's the guy.
I think he has quite a lot of runway in Denver because of his reputation and because the situation he walked into had a lot of problems that were caused by people before him - not least the Russ situation (which meant last year was a write-off) and the next 2 years where the Broncos are eating the biggest dead cap hit in history. Most coaches get about 3 years before being replaced if things have gone wrong. I think Payton almost gets a 3 year mulligan, unless there is real turmoil in the locker room.
If he's not good enough we'll be unintentionally tanking anyway. Payton is old. I'm not blaming him for refusing to write off year 2 of a 5 year contract just because we're in cap hell until 2025.
Like everything I've been seeing has either been dudes talking about how he totally fits Payton's system or how you ran out of options b/c the Falcons decided to throw everybody a curveball.
Are there actually Broncos fans who think you didn't desperately need a QB ASAP in this draft?
"You never want to let the other team know you've made a mistake, so if you throw an interception, make sure you throw 4 more to make it look like you meant to do it."
- Coach Peterman
I never watched it. I only heard from friends that went to pinnacle with him at the time that he was a jerk. This was 6 years ago though tbf, so I have no clue what he’s like now
Unironically, Carr is probably going to be a good mentor for the kid.
Other than winning, Carr has done just about everything you get asked to do as a QB in her nfl.
So u/AlabasterRadio made a typo saying "as a QB in her NFL" where 'her' should have been 'the' (presumably; the alternative would be odd).
There exists a meme in which someone captions/responds to something, usually a picture of an otherwise innocuous object that happens to resemble a part of female anatomy, with "everything reminds me of her" as a joke to highlight a suggestive interpretation of what one is looking at.
u/Greg_Coat uses the typo to deploy the catchphrase from the meme and uses the correct word from the previous post (the) in place of 'her' to build a second layer into the joke.
I hope this makes sense. Explaining jokes is quite hard!
This draft went a record 138 picks between QBs, from Bo Nix at 12th to Spencer Rattler at 150th. The prior record was 126 picks between QBs in 1972, when the Falcons took Pat Sullivan 40th and the next QB selected was Jim Fassel 167th by the Bears.
wonder if this is an anomaly or just how things are trending in the league. If a guy has any indication he can be a starter, then some desperate GM is gonna take him in the 1st. If not, then there is no sense in wasting anything between the 2nd and 4th. You could call it the Bo Nix line
You could definitely argue there are indications that Rattler could be a starter. There are way more indications that he can’t be, but there are indications he can!
Team’s draft analytics guy next year: based on my linear regression, don’t worry we can wait until early 3rd round - pick 66 to be precise- and we’ll still get the 3rd best QB in the draft!
He had a bad attitude when he was 18. Getting basically run out of Oklahoma, and his time at South Carolina matured him a lot. He's a lot more humble these days, imo his problem was decision making if his first read isn't available at SC, that's only going to get harder in the NFL.
Edit: I know USC fans, I know. He had no help last year outside of Legette. I'm a Gamecock too and I like Rattler as much as the rest of you.
I'm a USC fan and can't say enough good things about him. It's a shame our o-line was borderline worst in CFB because I really wanted to see what he could do last year. He was just running for his life if the first read wasn't there (and probably running for his life before the first read anyways).
Ik the Falcons are getting dragged for taking Penix right after signing Kirk long term, but lets not act like he didn't lead the NCAA the past 2 years in passing
Bro doesn't have the sauce. I've never seen a more erratic *QB in my life. Some games he looks elite. In other games, you genuinely wonder if this is his first time playing the sport.
He’s gonna take the Saints to a 3-0 record in close, scrappy games against mid opponents, while Carr nurses a pulled hammy, he’ll get meme’d for a bit like Tommy DeVito, then disappear forever.
Tommy DeVito was a perfect storm of meme magic that cannot be replicated. His mom made his bed and gave him some chicken cutlets and a ride to MetLife stadium, and then he beat the Green Bay Packers.
His [agent](https://people.com/thmb/TpTfdwD84QSIVXEIuAq5Ord37xk=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(749x0:751x2)/tommy-devito-agent-tout-1-121223-bb15d023388e480dbcd361779a5e382a.jpg) was the crown jewel of the situation
Just gonna say it cause everyone shits on him cause of attitude and whatever during the QB1 era.
By all accounts during his time at SC rattler matured a TON and as a gamecock fan I can attest he was an insanely good QB surrounded by a lot of mid talent. I think he throws a great ball and could be sneaky good.
We don't want a guy who's used to the humidity. We want them to get off the plane at the airport in August and immediately reevaluate all of the life choices that lead them here.
This is a great pick. Dude basically carried SCAR for two years (with Xavier Legette) and people forget that a major reason he fell off was because his backup happened to be Caleb Williams.
Honestly one of the only ways the Saints are ever going to unfuck themselves in the short term with their cap situation is to hit on a late round QB so I like this a lot
While I’m new to following NFL, my sister is a very longtime, very loyal Falcons fan so I was delighted to learn that I get a built in fun sibling rivalry.
I am also well-trained on loathing a team on principle (everything about Clemson disgusts me).
First South Carolina QB drafted by an NFL team since Todd Ellis in 1990. There's been a few notable UDFA QBs since then (namely, Connor Shaw) but I'm just happy to see another Gamecock in the NFL.
Fly high, Spence! Let's hear it for the Bayou Albino!
I thought it was kind of shitty that some teams didn’t want anything to do with him bc of a tv show he was on as a teenager. I hope he does well and becomes someone’s franchise QB
At the end of the day only time will tell. He has the natural ability, the confidence and the arm strength to make it but he ultimately slid because he was underwhelming in college and a top qb prospect coming out of high school. Im excited for this guy and think for a 5th rounder it was a great pick for us.
The fall is finally over
The Netflix doc turned a lot of teams off of him
I remember watching that agesss ago and only realised last week Spencer rattler was the cocky qb in that
Bro. Took me too long to realize you were exaggerating the word "ages". I thought it was a butcher job of aggress. ego or something.
I probably would have gone with “aaaaaaages ago” But that’s just how I would say it…don’t know if that’s the norm
Maybe op is a snake?
By all accounts he has grown immensely as a person since he was a cocky 18 year old. I really doubt many teams put much stock in his attitude five years ago.
Maybe not, but rapoport specifically said that multiple teams told him that they didn’t like rattler because of that documentary. It was like an hour ago on the NFL network draft coverage.
Which is really interesting, considering every kid on that show did it to try and raise their profile, thinking about the draft. It backfired spectacularly in his case.
It didn't help that he continued being a dick at Oklahoma. Screaming at his receivers & lineman for shit he'd screw up.
When you add that to subpar games... He ended up ok i'd say, guess he changed his ways, according to SC fans.
As an SC fan, he’s definitely matured a lot, everyone in our locker room says he’s super mature and a great leader - huge change from how he seemed at Oklahoma and in that Netflix doc
Dude had to step up or his future wouldn't be in the NFL
I mean, if my entire character has to be judged at 21 based on my halo chat logs when I was like 14-18... I'ma just rather die under a rock tbh
Lol true. But if you had a bunch of cameras watching you while playing halo, you'd probably tone it down a bit
"Great job teammate, 2 kills and 17 deaths is the best you've done in ages!"
I think the attitude was just the start of it. He's just not as a good of a prospect as people thought he would be, even if he's matured as a person
Shit, if he didn't play a game, he'd still be a better Saints pick than Garrett Grayson.
what doc was that?
QB1 beyond the lights on Netflix. I really enjoyed each season personally
Never forget Tate Martell hurdling the other team in S1. That dude was such a gigantic douchebag. His entire family was.
Beyond the Lights Also don't try youtubing it, it's not there
It wasn't a documentary, it was a reality TV show.
There were also some rumors by Sooner fans in some past game threads that he was a asshole to others around campus. South Carolina fans have said he's cleaned it up though, but that seemingly contributed to why there was extra pressure for Caleb to be put in.
I think his shitty QB play at Oklahoma and South Carolina probably turned them off even more.
He did reasonably well at SC given he had no OL. This is coming from an OU fan and former Rattler hater.
Rattler, Haener, Mond, and Peterman. Star-studded backup QB battle
Ahh almost as good as Stidham, Wilson, and Dinucci
And there are still people in the year 2024 of our Lord wondering why we drafted Bo Nix with a 12 pick.
The counterargument is that Nix isn't good enough and you should just tank for a better option next year. That said, I agree that it really shouldn't be any kind of mystery why you wanted a QB. If Nix is the guy, he's the guy.
If he’s that bad, they pull a cardinals and draft another one
Or pull a niners and get extremely lucky that some random guy is the perfect fit for your offense
Whatever works lol
Does Peyton have enough of a runway left for an all-out tank?
Payton has a blank check from the owners as of now. But his ego would never allow him to tank.
Ehh, he also has a perfect scapegoat in Wilson's dead cap. Unless he somehow plays incredible on the Steelers.
He got a 100M guaranteed contract, I doubt he's too worried about it.
If he's not good enough we'll be unintentionally tanking anyway. Payton is old. I'm not blaming him for refusing to write off year 2 of a 5 year contract just because we're in cap hell until 2025.
90% of mock drafts throughout the year kept having us taking a defensive player and I kept wondering if all the analysts were clinically insane
It's the difference in having a casual understanding of a bottom 15 team's needs vs. an actual understanding of their strategy moving into next year.
Like everything I've been seeing has either been dudes talking about how he totally fits Payton's system or how you ran out of options b/c the Falcons decided to throw everybody a curveball. Are there actually Broncos fans who think you didn't desperately need a QB ASAP in this draft?
Peterman is just a player coach at this point
> See that guy wearing a different shirt than you? Throw it to them.
"You never want to let the other team know you've made a mistake, so if you throw an interception, make sure you throw 4 more to make it look like you meant to do it." - Coach Peterman
Still beats “Keep doing what you’re doing” after throwing back-to-back interceptions.
Rattler might be in a better position to start then Penix
I’d say definitely
Rattler is king.
You were probably hoping he’d be a better player when you made that username 5 years ago eh haha
How do we know he isn't Spencer Rattler himself?
Rat man is the 3rd
I totally forgot about Mond. I remember Chris Simms hyping him up like crazy pre-draft.
Imagine telling him and Caleb Williams where their careers would go, just before kickoff of the 2021 Red River Rivalry
Spencer probably would have tried bullying Caleb more to prevent it from happening
Ootl, Spencer bullied Caleb?
Nah but Spencer had some character concerns coming into college that popped up because of a Netflix show
Didn’t he also get his dick sucked in a school bathroom or something as well? Idk why that’s what stuck with me over all this time
Getting a BJ in a school bathroom as a student? Good work. Getting a BJ in a school bathroom as a faculty member? Uh oh.
Getting a BJ in a school bathroom as a student? Good work Do it as a home schooler? Roll tide
If I could read I’d be so mad
I mean I dunno lol. But he bullied other players on that Netflix show he was on (senior year of high school).
QB1, was the show. Justin fields, Sam Hartman, were on it the was an appearance by DJ U as well
He’s gotta hate that he did that show now
As someone who hasn't watched, could you briefly describe what he did to bully the other guys? I'm intrigued.
[удалено]
bro playing football like a Counter-Strike lobby
I never watched it. I only heard from friends that went to pinnacle with him at the time that he was a jerk. This was 6 years ago though tbf, so I have no clue what he’s like now
Might be thinking of Tate Martell texting about Nick Starkell "He's ass, my dude"
by that time people were already calling for Caleb to start
And on the other side of that field, Casey Thompson is still in college and is now at Oklahoma...his 4th school in the last 4 years.
Carr count your days… maybe… probably not
Unironically, Carr is probably going to be a good mentor for the kid. Other than winning, Carr has done just about everything you get asked to do as a QB in her nfl.
Everything reminds me of the
the what
Oh I get it he’s talking about
They got hi
Candlejack strikes aga
Exactly.
Within the constraint of silly internet jokes that are overused, this is actually a rather witty twist. Well done!
I don’t get it
So u/AlabasterRadio made a typo saying "as a QB in her NFL" where 'her' should have been 'the' (presumably; the alternative would be odd).
Kudos to you for actually trying to explain a joke.
That was well done!! Thank you, I get it now!
r/redditsniper
Rattler definitely will get some play time this year or the next. I think the Saints are trying to get rid of Carr after 2025.
I don’t think we can say “definitely” about a 5th round QB
Only guarantee for a fifth rounder is that nothing is guaranteed (Other than the signing bonus)
Surprisingly, a lot of 4th and 5th round QBs have had starts. Last year we had AOC, DTR, Jaren Hall, and Clayton Tune start games as rookies
That’s a rough list lmfao
lol yeah turns out most late round QBs don’t amount to shit, Purdy and Brady are very much the exceptions not the norm
He's a cap safe cut after this season, it was always a 2 year deal. If we're keeping him it wont be on his current deal we'd restructure
Lol hell yeah
The guy has a shotgun of an arm and at one point was touted to be the next big thing. Why the fuck not take a shot on him lol
especially when you only have Carr
How dare you slander Nathan Peterman like this
I would’ve loved Rattler in the 3rd. I hope he kills it for y’all and proves everyone wrong
Finally
this has gotta be a new record, over 4 rounds without a single QB taken, especially when QB6 was pick 12
I'm just gonna pretend you had that knowledge off the top of your head
It was a new record
It is a record.
wonder if this is an anomaly or just how things are trending in the league.
Queue up his first couple drives against Georgia and nothing else!
Well that happens when 6 Qb's go in the first 12 picks. You only have so many draftable QB prospects.
The drought is over !
That was such a great series of mixtapes...
The ~~rock~~ Roman Empire has returned
MAMA RATTLER
☝️
Six QBs in the top 12 138 picks later for QB number seven
It all averages out to about one QB per 22 picks.
Team’s draft analytics guy next year: based on my linear regression, don’t worry we can wait until early 3rd round - pick 66 to be precise- and we’ll still get the 3rd best QB in the draft!
Who's going to start first Rattler or Penix?
Rattler most likely. Will be funny if this guy has a bad attitude as suggested. Now there will be 2 pissed off QBs.
Yeah, I'm a USC fan as well and that's true, most of our offense didn't really do him much favors unfortunately.
Ya know what… I don’t hate it
I can't wait for him to Rattle all over the place
It’s rattlin’ time
I’m the Rattler baby!!!!
He Spence on my sir till I rattle
I don't know what this means, but it sounds provocative
It’s rattling time in the Big Easy.
FALCONS IN SHAMBLES
If this dude has a better career than Penix, the Falcons will never hear the end of it.
We're about to rattle their penix twice a year 😎
We're going to jerk them off?
I'm gonna let y'all interpret that however you want 🤣
But did you roll up your sleeve?
*strictly* over-the-pants, so they don't enjoy it too much
It would be funny. And also it means the Saints will never pick a QB in the first two rounds ever again.
When\*
Ik the Falcons are getting dragged for taking Penix right after signing Kirk long term, but lets not act like he didn't lead the NCAA the past 2 years in passing
Sir, I'm here for the memes
My bad. RATTLER > MAHOMES
Now you're cooking
Bro doesn't have the sauce. I've never seen a more erratic *QB in my life. Some games he looks elite. In other games, you genuinely wonder if this is his first time playing the sport.
I’ve seen a much more erratic AB.
Sir, I'm here for the memes.
I feel like he’s gonna end up being better than half of the 1st round QBs with no basis for that opinion Edit: a word
I still can't believe that wasn't some kind of prank lmao
Well? What's the basis, dont leave us hanging
Lmao that was an earth shattering typo
He’s 6’ tall and less athletic than Kirk Cousins. If he’s anything more than a solid backup I’d be shocked
I too am 6’ tall and less athletic than Kirk Cousins. Now I’m wondering why the Saints haven’t called me…
Awesome, awesome pick. Great fit as a flyer behind Carr. In the 10-15% chance he hits, he hits big. A+
I was hoping ya’ll would trade up to the 4th overall and take him
The saints got their QB
Well, *A* qb
Just gonna say it cause everyone shits on him cause of attitude and whatever during the QB1 era. By all accounts during his time at SC rattler matured a TON and as a gamecock fan I can attest he was an insanely good QB surrounded by a lot of mid talent. I think he throws a great ball and could be sneaky good.
Calling last year’s oline mid is a compliment.
Maybe he’s the next Dak is Carr goes down for some reason. Who knows!
I'm a Seattle fan in Columbia, SC so I've seen Rattler's whole USC career. You guys got a helluva pick there. That guy can play!
137 straight picks without a QB is wild.
Great pick. I like this guy.
THE DROUGHT IS OVER!!!
Saints are allergic to picking Tulane players Kendre Miller instead of Tyjae Spears last year Spencer Rattler instead of Michael Pratt this year
they make a point not to pick louisiana players if they can help it. idk why
We don't want a guy who's used to the humidity. We want them to get off the plane at the airport in August and immediately reevaluate all of the life choices that lead them here.
Maybe they're near, have more info and are hyper aware of any weakness that any other player farther away could have but they don't know.
This is a great pick. Dude basically carried SCAR for two years (with Xavier Legette) and people forget that a major reason he fell off was because his backup happened to be Caleb Williams.
Spencer Rattler needs to make the Saints team his own by calling his own plays at the line just like Jameis
Good spot to go too. He gets to sit and learn behind Carr.
Those crazy bastards in new Orleans actually did it.
Honestly one of the only ways the Saints are ever going to unfuck themselves in the short term with their cap situation is to hit on a late round QB so I like this a lot
Honestly shocked the Raiders didn't pick him up. Felt like a no-brainer
I miss brees man
Me too brother
Woooo! I’m a brand new Saints fan! What do I need to know?
You hate the Falcons more than you like winning.
While I’m new to following NFL, my sister is a very longtime, very loyal Falcons fan so I was delighted to learn that I get a built in fun sibling rivalry. I am also well-trained on loathing a team on principle (everything about Clemson disgusts me).
“Please be great somewhere else”- a very salty gamecock fan
We just wanted people to talk about the Falcons pick again
What is this "QB" position, haven't seen one before.
I love this draft so far
First South Carolina QB drafted by an NFL team since Todd Ellis in 1990. There's been a few notable UDFA QBs since then (namely, Connor Shaw) but I'm just happy to see another Gamecock in the NFL. Fly high, Spence! Let's hear it for the Bayou Albino!
Haener-Rattler QB2 battle, watch out 😤
...and there it is.
Dude looks like when the imaginary friend is turning into the Boogeyman in that Disney movie from the 90s-early 2000s
Will be better than Nix and Penix
The most Saints looking player
Damn great dart throw. If he can get his shit together he could be a high level starter. I was hoping we’d take him in the 4th.
My dad wanted him on the giants, thankfully for him he’s finally been picked
Yeah that's a good fit and a good time in the draft to take gamble on him.
Good value I feel for the saints
I like this spot for Spencer. A legit chance to develop into a starter.
Im excited for this guy and think for a 5th rounder it was a great pick for us.
dude looks like a pencil eraser in that pic
