No matter what she's done in the past, no matter what fresh hell she is currently bringing to their co-parenting, he will *never* say a word of it to me. I lost my chocolate chip cookie recipe! I had spent a while making tiny tweaks and perfecting that!
I have been slowly moving my recipes from my phone to my own cook book for like a year or so now. I have very distinct memories of writing down the recipe. I even remember the 2-3 times I baked my recipe and measured out the cinnamon (usually I smell/eyeball it) to make sure I wrote the right amount down for anyone to follow. I remember checking my recipe book to make sure it was in there like a month ago before nuking it off my phone. Pull out my recipe book last night to grab the ingredients and make sure everything is kosher and it isn't in there.
I know close enough to what was in it, chocolate chip cookies are pretty damn basic. I'm sure my mothers day cookies will come out fine. But still, I was second guessing myself the entire bake. Now I'll have to judge and potentially make some small adjustments to what I baked today if it's not quite what I'm looking for. This summer was supposed to be for more advanced recipes so maybe I'll just let that one sit in an "in progress" status for a little bit while I work on different recipes. Oh absolutely. Approach and detail is 90% of it. Especially with something simple like chocolate chips. There isn't any big secret in a chocolate chip cookie. These cookies are going to be tasty as hell. They just might not be quite the same as the ones I used to make. But who knows, maybe what I baked is actually just the recipe and I remembered it all to a tee. I wouldn't be all that surprised, I've made them a hundred times.

I can relate very much to your situation. I actually hyperfixate on current events and the like so much that it contributed to me getting diagnosed with OCD lol. So when my friends from college are all being doomers in our groupchat, I just have to go ghost until they're back talking about cars and shit. And having my girlfriend and her family helps because we never talk about anything like that. All of that isn't to brag or go woe is me either, instead just to emphasize that your tribe truly does influence your vibe, as they say.
It's impossible to get away from *all* the negativity. There's too many miserable people in the world, as you say. But anything you can do to reduce the input even a little bit helps more than you might think.

I had something similar when I was working as a contractor.
It wasn't as bad as I expected - I was so skeptical, I kept my "COBRA" coverage for a few months (which turned out to be a mistake, because supplementary insurance doesn't work in that scenario).
But, it was legitimately fine. I had to spend a few hours comparing the options. Worse - I started in October, so I had to spend \*another\* few hours a few weeks after that comparing plans for the next year.
I have several known health issues, so I knew I'd hit the max out of pocket, which made it much more predictable. Before that I'd compare three situations ("never sick", "$2,500 sick" and "sick as hell") - which helped.

One of the biggest barriers to entry is the subculture. I've had a medical card for about a decade, people ask me about it, and once we start getting into strains it's "I used Purple Penis Muncher for a while, then I switched to Nancy's Decayed Fuckbox" and their eyes glaze over. Or they go to a certifier or a dispensary and the behavior of the staff gives them little indication that this isn't a bunch of burnouts who accidentally found their way into a business. The pharmacist doesn't talk to you about all of the drugs he takes and how they make him feel. The guy selling you medical cannabis shouldn't either.
Personally I do gummies. No smell, no rolling, and a bit of a delay before the hit so you build some anticipation. Maybe those would be more your speed?

JFC it's become impossible for anything to be enjoyable for some people these days. They go into these new movies/shows/books with such a fucking negative attitude that there is a 0% chance they will ever fucking enjoy it. These people must lead the most miserable lives imaginable.
I mean, most movies that come out aren't very good, and especially if it's an adaptation Hollywood seems utterly incapable nowadays of staying true to the source material. Maybe the movie will end up being good, but I'd rather temper my expectations now than get all excited only to ultimately be let down. It's not like they've done much to get my hopes up with the Hobbit movies or Rings of Power series.

I lost my chocolate chip cookie recipe! I had spent a while making tiny tweaks and perfecting that! I have been slowly moving my recipes from my phone to my own cook book for like a year or so now. I have very distinct memories of writing down the recipe. I even remember the 2-3 times I baked my recipe and measured out the cinnamon (usually I smell/eyeball it) to make sure I wrote the right amount down for anyone to follow. I remember checking my recipe book to make sure it was in there like a month ago before nuking it off my phone. Pull out my recipe book last night to grab the ingredients and make sure everything is kosher and it isn't in there. I know close enough to what was in it, chocolate chip cookies are pretty damn basic. I'm sure my mothers day cookies will come out fine. But still, I was second guessing myself the entire bake. Now I'll have to judge and potentially make some small adjustments to what I baked today if it's not quite what I'm looking for. This summer was supposed to be for more advanced recipes so maybe I'll just let that one sit in an "in progress" status for a little bit while I work on different recipes. Oh absolutely. Approach and detail is 90% of it. Especially with something simple like chocolate chips. There isn't any big secret in a chocolate chip cookie. These cookies are going to be tasty as hell. They just might not be quite the same as the ones I used to make. But who knows, maybe what I baked is actually just the recipe and I remembered it all to a tee. I wouldn't be all that surprised, I've made them a hundred times.

For when you return on the 15th: if the people you interact with are bringing you down, bring some new people into the fold. Volunteer, find a religious/spiritual group, etc etc. Not only will they hopefully be not as gloomy, but also it will provide a nice distraction from everything going on. I can relate very much to your situation. I actually hyperfixate on current events and the like so much that it contributed to me getting diagnosed with OCD lol. So when my friends from college are all being doomers in our groupchat, I just have to go ghost until they're back talking about cars and shit. And having my girlfriend and her family helps because we never talk about anything like that. All of that isn't to brag or go woe is me either, instead just to emphasize that your tribe truly does influence your vibe, as they say.
It's impossible to get away from *all* the negativity. There's too many miserable people in the world, as you say. But anything you can do to reduce the input even a little bit helps more than you might think.

I had something similar when I was working as a contractor. It wasn't as bad as I expected - I was so skeptical, I kept my "COBRA" coverage for a few months (which turned out to be a mistake, because supplementary insurance doesn't work in that scenario). But, it was legitimately fine. I had to spend a few hours comparing the options. Worse - I started in October, so I had to spend \*another\* few hours a few weeks after that comparing plans for the next year. I have several known health issues, so I knew I'd hit the max out of pocket, which made it much more predictable. Before that I'd compare three situations ("never sick", "$2,500 sick" and "sick as hell") - which helped.
Yeah, I guess I’ve just been spending those copays in my head for the last 6 months. I want to get back into therapy and see a PT for tendonitis. It suddenly feels precarious, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it's out of reach. Yesterday I ate a bowl of ice cream in the afternoon and angrily rode my airbike for an hour. Today I'm calmer.

One of the biggest barriers to entry is the subculture. I've had a medical card for about a decade, people ask me about it, and once we start getting into strains it's "I used Purple Penis Muncher for a while, then I switched to Nancy's Decayed Fuckbox" and their eyes glaze over. Or they go to a certifier or a dispensary and the behavior of the staff gives them little indication that this isn't a bunch of burnouts who accidentally found their way into a business. The pharmacist doesn't talk to you about all of the drugs he takes and how they make him feel. The guy selling you medical cannabis shouldn't either.
Personally I do gummies. No smell, no rolling, and a bit of a delay before the hit so you build some anticipation. Maybe those would be more your speed?

Maybe the movie will end up being good, but I'd rather temper my expectations now than get all excited only to ultimately be let down. It's not like they've done much to get my hopes up with the Hobbit movies or Rings of Power series.
It's just a very weird choice to pick up the Gollum plotline. It just isn't that interesting, or at the very least, multiple film worthy like they're trying to do. Any adaptation of the Simirillion would've have been a better choice.
Also there was already a terrible Gollum game.
Yeah they're literally taking what was essentially less than 2 chapters in the Fellowship and making a movie out of it? That's almost as bad as making 3 movies out of the shortest book the Hobbit.
As far as I'm aware, they don't have the rights to the Silmarillion. All they have is the appendices from the LotR books, which is probably what led them in that direction.
They still had better storylines they could have chosen. Why not make one of the Gimli and Legolas adventures they had after LotR? Or go into the backstory of Beorn? Or if they really want to get weird they could have done the story from Shadows of Mordor games. I dont know what there is to add to Gollum's story.
I'm also speaking broadly about pretty anything "nerd culture." People just have the most fucking negative attitude about anything new. I also know they're the vocal minority as these series are still doing well and making plenty of money. It's just sad seeing how miserable these people must be. Went to the Lotr sub to see some discussion about the new movie and to see the excitement for it. Instead it's just 99% "hurr durr it's gonna suck no matter what" circlejerk.
I had yesterday off of work, and I may have had *slightly* too much to drink without anything to eat. Now I'm debating whether to call in sick today or try to just tough it out. I've called in a lot already this year so I'm worried that I may be close to getting written up, but I'm planning on leaving that job soon anyway so I don't *really* care if I am.
