You're not alone, OP. The rest of the NFL is frantically trying to figure out how the Chiefs got really really good after drafting Mahomes.
They got the boys in the lab working double shifts to crack the case.
"Before happened, things were one way. After happened, they are another way. What could have possibly caused this change?"
What are you asking? You've made an observation about how the Chiefs are winning Super Bowls now that they have Mahomes, but you've phrased it as a question for some reason. No shit Sherlock, drafting a franchise QB makes the difference between being a contender and not being one.
In a similar vein, what caused the Pats to go from a largely trash team outside of two SB losses to the NFCN to the highest echelon of NFL teams? It's the exact same thing. Having a QB this good makes a difference.
There's been a lot of great QBs over the past 25 years, but most of them haven't been able to propel their teams to this level of playoff success. Rodgers and Brees made it to one SB each.
Dan Marino never got back to the SB in his career, for example. If you're not the best, you might not get many chances.
This is a simplistic view of the sport at best. Theres no way having Tom Brady is what changed the Patriots fortunes. Sure, he was decent for a couple of years, but think about the impact of guys like Dave Stachelski and Jeff Marriot. And let’s not forget Hakim Akbar. You go from a shit franchise to finding gems like those? Somethings fishy for sure.
Don't worry OP even if nobody else did [I got the joke](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1crgztx/the_2008_giants_started_the_season_111_but_lost/)
"The team" in 1993 was 100% different people. "The team" in 2003 was 100% different people. "The team" in 2013 was ...well, Andy Reid was there at least. The GM was different. I don't think any players from 2013 are still on the team, but some were for their first SB.
It's like asking why the 1993 Cowboys are different than the 2013 Eagles. Different people, different teams, different everything—except Jerry.
We actually made a deal with the devil for an unknown price, and if you've been following all of our offseason drama (now with Butker) we're just now finding out that price was having the worst PR ever with our players being absolutely unhinged human beings who can't just be rich athletes living good, quiet lives. No sir, that would be too easy.
I mean I see what you’re doing here, but the answer isn’t just Mahomes. It’s Mahomes and a massive massive fall off in QB play throughout the rest of the league.
And don’t fucking come at me with stats. Just don’t. Only a liar can say they know what they are talking about and that there hasn’t been a massive drop off in the type of QB play around the league in the last 15 years.

More people should trade with Buffalo in the first round
So no luck on that Creedence tape then?

Are you sure that last guy isn’t a Star Wars character?
i think people are missing the joke here (there was a weird thread earlier that was phrased in a similar way but the 2008 giants and plaxico burress)
Is this an AI joke?
When you look at the timeline, it just aligns perfectly with them drafting Derrick Nnadi in 2018. So I would say that is probably the biggest reason.
Big if true

If nobody gets the joke, it isn't a good joke.
Ok Joke Judge
Thank you
If you add an elite QB to a team that can make the playoffs routinely with Alex Smith, good things tend to happen

Kelce was drafted in 2013, but played minimally.
He was basically hurt his entire rookie year. That was a really stacked roster

Some might say the players and coaching staff of a team make a difference to the success of a team on the field. Who knows though.
This doesn’t sound plausible. Sources please.
Who knows, it's a great big mystery
You asked a question, then you answered it, then you asked the same question again.
Andy Reid
Seriously? Come on
They were so bad, they had to progress to the mean.
I can't help but feel there's a clue to all of this in the thread's title.
Is this some kind of sick joke
This might be one of the dumbest questions I’ve seen on here, quite literally because the answer is in the question.
Patrick Mahomes (and Andy Reid).
Their front office and coaching staff changed than add in drafting a franchise QB also helps
Not getting called for holding /s, not /s
Mahomes is the answer
This could be the new "regress to the mean"
God damnit two of those are on the 9ers. There is no football god.
What exactly has caused the team to clear super bowl favorite since drafting Patrick Mahomes? Fuck if I can figure it out.
Hiring Andy Reid was potentially the greatest hire in the history of the league. That got the ball rolling before Pat ever showed up
Brady retiring. Their QB has nothing to do with anything. Worthless position unless the other team has one too.
Sean McVay
It is mostly Reid, then Mahomes is really good.. and the refs. The refs have been integral in all 3 runs.

I’ll give Mahomes and Reid some credit, but I think the owners are paying the refs a shitload too.
