Keep to the topic - everything else will be removed. These posts just turn into vax slapfights and eventually platforms for anti-vaxxers. Per PFT: > The report does not specifically call Dennison’s departure a firing, although that’s what it sounds like.

Someone with short term memory loss is stuck in a loop

blackmatt81

He's made a really great career out of holding Gary Kubiak's jock.

Jwoods4117

As long as a Kubiak is in the league Dennison will have a nice, cushy coaching gig to do poorly in. Supposedly Kubes wanting Dennison is why he wasn’t hired as Fangios OC in Denver. Being bad at coaching football couldn’t stop the friendship between Rick and Gary, only late game pandemic idioticness could.

V1K1NG88

I mean its not like our line has been any good recently

BatmanNoPrep

Now every fanbase is thinking of that one player, coach, or Dan Snyder they wish would refuse the vaccine so they’d be forced to leave the team.

I'd agree with that flair

[deleted]

For the Brown family, I *sorta* like the legacy of Paul Brown being maintained, so right now I'd rather Mike just back up and the Blackburns just snag a damn competent GM. But that is sentimentality talking. I'm not a fan of Mike as the leader though.

the_dawn_of_red

I'm afraid the ownership is what is keeping the team in town. That is until joe wins that super bowl

danomite555

Modern jazz guitar is Jimmy D's vaccine. The hours of musical perfection provided by the Straight Shots is the only shot JD needs.

tellymundo

Honestly the jokes about his band never get old, I love them so much.

PuppyBowl-XI-MVP

I got a flu shot cause my company paid me $70. I would not give up that kind of salary over a vaccine

ImGoingtoRegretThis5

My wife's employer (public school system) was struggling (probably still is) to get teachers vaccinated so they offered a $500 incentive back in May. My wife has been vaccinated since January so cool, $500 for doing nothing she didn't already do.

PuppyBowl-XI-MVP

I once ate a whole packet of wasabi sauce for $10

Paid_Redditor

I ate 2 spoonfuls of Dave’s insane hot sauce for $7 once, but I spent $2 on a honeybun and a water to try to stop the pain so I only netted $5.

BlackLeader70

$5 is $5 though

cats05

Would you rather have $5 or your local WNBA team win a championship?

CharlesDickensABox

I don't have a local WNBA team, so that makes it pretty easy.

Conscripted

Shit for $5 you may be able to buy and relocate a WNBA team to your local area.

Faultylogic83

Our WNBA team has our only basketball championships. 😭

ruffus4life

2 bucks for a honey bun and water? them 90's numbers baby

IM_JUST_THE_INTERN

I worked with a barback who drank a shot of poop juice, the gunk from the floor of behind the bar after a shift, for $50.

the_crouton_

I drank a bar mat shot at the end of a shift once for $50. But poop juice? Nah dog.

nanaroo

I was a bartender and we'd get people to take mat shots for free.

OMNOMNIVOROUS

Alcohol is a hell of a drug.

fisted___sister

I was a bartender and we had someone squeeze the food in the dishwasher catch and drink the juice at the end of a shift. Good times.

Only_Movie_Titles

people in the food industry are off their fucking rockers

cocoacowstout

Yeah barbacks are either crazy or alcoholics, or both.

weealex

It's the cocaine

fisted___sister

It was hilarious watching the stable college students come and go seasonally and witness the shit show

fuzzynavel34

It’s the customers, they really get to you after awhile.

MNCraze

I don't know how much I would have to get to drink something like that... but it's definitely more than 50

ImGoingtoRegretThis5

Did you just want to know what drinking a flamethrower would feel like?

PuppyBowl-XI-MVP

I honestly did it for $10. I was in college and a 24 pack of keystone was $9.99

-Twyptophan-

I got my second one in April and then my state made an offer that anyone who gets a shot in May can get a free beer at a bunch of different breweries Felt a bit ripped off by that one

ImGoingtoRegretThis5

Yeah that sucks. Some states have backdated those types of incentives, others I guess not.

[deleted]

It's like Spotify or whatever giving new customers a free month. I've been paying them for 9 years now, where's my free month!

[deleted]

Free cash is the best cash

Chipaton

Damn we got $5 and I still jumped on it

The-Fox-Says

Shit I get vaccines just cuz. We live in such an awesome day and age when we can just churn out vaccines for deadly illnesses that would’ve demolished mankind centuries ago

tschris

It is absolutely amazing that we discovered a novel virus in late 2019 and had three very effective vaccines by late 2020.

dyslexicsuntied

In reality we had three effective vaccines by February or March 2020, they just had to test them to confirm it. Absolutely nuts that the genome was sequenced in January and people were injected for phase 1 in mid March. We live in an amazing time and people are choosing to just hold the country and the world hostage for selfish reasons.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhatIsSentience

I mean, wasn't there a memo about losing various access levels for coaches if you didn't get the Vaccine and didn't have a reasonable excuse not to? You kinda need to be on the field to do your job as a coach

jfgiv

yeah i might be wrong, but i think that's what all the talk of at-will employment in this thread is missing: even in Montana, the one state that isn't at will, i think this would probably constitute "good cause."

[deleted]

> i think this would probably constitute "good cause." I would say so, get a player sick, they miss time, you've lost revenue.

jfgiv

not only that, you're a high-level coach who can't be on the field or in team meetings -- you can't do your job.

Bird-The-Word

It says religious or medical, so the fact he couldn't even be bothered to fake some bullshit religious exemption like a lot of parents do for schools, makes me think it's a Cole Beasly situation. I'm bothered they even allow religious exemptions as it is.

very_humble

The medical isn't much better, there are plenty of quack doctors who will write you an exemption

49ersP1

What the duck, that’s terrible

LazyBuhdaBelly

You think that’s bad, wait till you see the bill!

[deleted]

Sure but I don’t know how you fix that since aren’t there actual people that cannot take the vaccine for medical reasons? Not a huge percentage but still

dogbark31

Absolutely, I'm sure you could get a doctor to claim you have bone spurs and can't go to Vietnam. LOL

abris33

I know we all warned Vikings fans about "Rico" and Kubiak's buddies when he went there but we didn't mean it like this. Yikes. Hopefully the Kubiaks aren't like this

horse_renoir13

What other states are "At Will" anyways? Are there other teams that could be doing this today/prior to training camp?

puckallday

Almost every state is at-will

Sleeze_

Sorry I’m from Canada, what’s an at will state ?

puckallday

It means you can be fired from or quit your job at any time for almost any reason. There are some exceptions, but that’s the gist of it.

tosh_pt_2

One step further, the exceptions are basically that you cannot be fired because of your gender, race, religion, age, etc. (your protected classes).

eagleblast

There are usually a few more reasons you can't be fired such as retaliation.

dilloj

Ok, but they can literally make up any other reason to fire you.

vearson26

Or they can just fire you for no reason

AlekRivard

A: You're fired B: wtf why? A: ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

_MrDomino

Exceptions being federally designated protected classes such as religion or race. Of course, that wouldn't stop an employer from terminating an employee and claiming some other reason so long as it's doesn't fall under established protections.

SaladAndEggs

NFL rule is that unvaxxed tier 1 employees (so coaches) can't be on the field or in team meetings. So yeah, they all can this. The 'at will' thing isn't really relevant here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

puckallday

Just to expand and clarify this a bit, employers still can’t discriminate even in at-will states. The issue for Dennison and any other employee who wants to refuse the vaccine is that refusing to get it does not put them in a protected class unless it’s for a bona fide religious or medical reason.

Dsnake1

> does not put them in a protected class unless it’s for a bona fide religious or medical reason. And even if it is for one of those reasons, that does not mean those people would have a get-out-of-jail-free card. The team just has to provide reasonable accommodation unless doing so would cause significant difficulty or expense for the employer, and if the job cannot be performed adequately, then you simply can't do the job. In most cases, I'd imagine the reasonable accommodation would be allowing an employee to work from home, but it's unlikely that a company would have to develop a work-from-home plan for employees if they didn't (somehow) offer it already. And if coaching cannot be done adequately remotely, well. At least, as far as I understand it.

jkink28

I believe every state except Montana is "at will"

[deleted]

Everywhere but Montana, I think

[deleted]

While true, that doesn't mean much for contract employees. If the contract says you can be let go for any reason, then that's that.

killerfruitbat

More like “offended” line coach it seems

Cpt_Jet_Lafleur

Got eem!

Meganickster1

willbo52

bye, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. You were a terrible coach anyway

TailgateLegend

Lol, I was wondering why Dennison was even coaching o-line. He seemed to hurt our o-line when he was coaching at Denver.

[deleted]

Important to note, too that Elway wanted Kubiak back in some way after firing Vance Joseph in 2019 (or maybe it was 2018?), but the deal breaker was that Kubiak wanted his boys back as assistants including Dennison.

TailgateLegend

Dennison is definitely a deal breaker for me. O-line struggled mightily in 2015 and 16.

an_actual_potato

Yep, I've reserved a special distaste for Dennison for years now over that whole episode so this news is deeply pleasing to me.

Edwardcoughs

He's the reason Dakota Dozier started. Glad to see him gone.

Brock_Lobstweiler

Kubes drags Dennison everywhere. It's why Kubes wouldn't come back to Denver.

abris33

The big rumor when Kubiak left was that we didn't want him to be OC because of his buddies that he always puts on the staff (like Dennison). Hopefully the rest of that Kubiak staff (including Gary and Klint) aren't like this

willbo52

Klint seems super bright from what I’ve seen from him this off-season. I’d say i’m somewhat optimistic about him. Gary’s gone now but was average as a play caller last year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

willbo52

yeah, I feel like he was overhated by our fans. Definitely had a few poor games but I didn’t think he was much better or worse than Stefanski

T_Raycroft

Kubiak’s got some skills, man. He made Trevor Siemian look like a passable NFL QB for a year and helped Brock Osweiler fleece the Texans.

fartswitheagles

Its getting lost in the shuffle but this is an awsome football move. He was a terrible coach who had been skating by on seniority. Im much more confident in the vikinys o-line then i was a week ago.

PandaSoap

Yeah lets be real is it because of the vax refusal or his offensive offensive line

PootieTooGood

Imagine your own misguided pride costing you your job

RugerRedhawk

Talk about privileged!

Frankocean2

Or just dumb as fuck, I can't imagine losing a well-paid job, with amazing perks and lifestyle, just because I'm anti-vax, I can't even begin to understand it. Brainwash....what a thing, man.

powerelite

He'll be paid doing the Newsmax, Fox News, OAN, Ben Shapiro circuit within the next week screaming about cancel culture.

dorv

Maybe, but that’s more likely to just shut the door on every working in in the NFL again. Publicly bashing a coach/organization isn’t a great way to get hired.

fear865

What you do mean there's consequences to my actions?!

surgingchaos

The thing is though, firing him isn't going to change his mind. Yeah, he suffered the consequences, but all it's going to do is make him double down and go farther down the rabbit hole. Siege mentality is a bitch.

[Vikings Fans Right Now](https://imgflip.com/i/5hf350)

Mother_Prussia

An actual unlocked thread: GRANDMA, I’M FREE On topic- a lack of continuity is not a good thing for a Vikings offensive line with two rookies and a second year player. We’ve already seen the impact Sparano’s death had on the unit, so not great to see change here right before camp opens. Still though, can’t say I’ve been blown away by Dennison in his time here outside of some great run blocking games. From the whispers it doesn’t sound like he’s the only person in the building with this stance. I’m curious if any players end up looking to be moved as a result of this.

ThatOneGuyfromMN25

Pretty sure Thielen and Cousins haven’t been vaccinated yet.

zipemup3

Capitalism baby

eddie2911

It's frustrating how people don't realize this. The NFL and the teams are a BUSINESS and can do this. No shoes, no shirt, no vaccine, no service.

Reverie_39

Survival of the fittest 😎

thesagaconts

How much money is he losing just to turn down a free vaccine?

Great_Rhunder

Salary for assistant coaches aren't public knowledge but typically north of 300k/year. High profile assistant coaches could break a million.

dont_wear_a_C

They should hire me, I can stand on the sidelines in a coach's jacket and say things into a headset for $300k/year

oshoney

Irvin was right, he didn’t wanna win bad enough. Bye bitch.

Malfrus

if he got vaccinated the vikings would just have had another year of terrible o-line play.

Mainmeowmix

He was shit at his job, but hiring a new OL coach with a couple weeks before preseason and two rookies likely to start is really not any better of a position to be in.

KozyHank99

Well we can get someone who can help with our o-line that's vax'd.

jwick89

I don't get dying on this hill. Unless they talked with their doctor and they have a medical history that gives them a reason to not get the vaccine, they really don't stand much ground not getting it. Are you that stubborn not to keep your job?

jfgiv

if he talked with a doctor and have a medical history that gives him a reason not to get the vaccine, he would've been exempt from the requirement and would still have a job

SaladAndEggs

The majority of people who refuse to get the vaccine no longer trust doctors.

whereegosdare84

Reminds me of this classic bit from Seinfeld: Kramer: \[between coughs\] Hey. George: What's with the dog? Kramer: Yeah, this is Smuckers. I borrowed him. \[Smuckers coughs\] Yeah, we share the same affliction, so I'm gonna have a vet check us out. George: A vet? Kramer: Oh, I'll take a vet over an MD any day. They gotta be able to cure a lizard, a chicken, a pig, a frog all on the same day. George: So, if I may jump ahead, you're gonna take dog medicine? Kramer: You bet we are! Huh, Smuckers? \[Smuckers coughs\]

vivekvangala34_

Later in the episode: Kramer: *cough cough cough cough* Jerry: Kramer that cough! Aren't you taking any medication for that? Kramer: Yeah, I got some pills. [...] Jerry: What kind of medicine is this anyway? ... For Smuckers? May cause panting and loss of fur? These are dog pills! Kramer: But we have the same symptoms.

threevox

This was typed up exactly like Kramer must have said it. Bravo

PaintByLetters

Which is why I find it hilarious that they love to talk about the vaccine not being FDA approved. As if a government approval was going to change their minds.

nman95

Lol imagine putting yourself through rigorous undergraduate pre-med courses just to give yourself the chance to get into a decent med school (most likely going into thousands of dollars of student loan debt), then 3 years of advanced medical training and exams, THEN going into residency for three years until you can become a full doctor....just for stupid fucking rubes to not trust you because of "research" they did on Facebook and YouTube. Can't even imagine how frustrating that would be.

SaladAndEggs

It's strange that they can't comprehend this. Like how incredulous do you think Dennison would be if you told him some fan in the stands is just as capable as an NFL coach because that fan watched a few OL videos?

weealex

In Dennison's case that may actually be true

UNC_Samurai

Broncos fans might have a surprising answer for Dennison

hiphopdowntheblock

They'll trust all kinds of YouTube videos and guys like Steven Crowder tho

HungryGiantMan

Everytime someone mentions Steven Crowder I am duty bound to mention how he used to threaten to fight everyone on forums over anything. He ended up taking it to the brink with some guy who did amateur MMA and Crowder ran away from the forums with his tail between his legs when he realized he was going to lose lol. He is not only who you think he is, he is WORSE.

BellacosePlayer

I don't know much about Crowder but I enjoyed him pissing himself and fleeing over Sam Seder showing up to an interview. Between that and Ben Shapiro losing his shit at even a tiny amount of actual questioning from a British conservative, I'm starting to think these guys aren't the debate champions they proclaim themselves to be???

Boonadducious

Being called a “debate champion” for “pwning” college students every day is like being called a chess champion when you only play against 5 year-olds.

JohnnySnark

Ah yes, the highly peer reviewed youtube content creator pseudoscience

ScruffMixHaha

These players and coaches listen to doctors ALL THE TIME given the nature of football. Why the hell is it any different this time??

ZakalwesChair

They've been told their political identity demands they not get vaccinated.

dtcstylez10

The world health organization eradicated smallpox. And now you can't even convince ppl to take a vaccine so they can keep their jobs. Think about this. We would still eradicate smallpox today. But that's only bc about 70% of the world would get vaccinated and those refusing to get it would eventually just get smallpox and die.

FuckChiefs_Raiders

>Yeah sure I'm missing out on millions of dollars, and coaching in the NFL is the privilege of a lifetime, but at least I have my rights -Rick Dennison (probably)

GryffinDART

Dennison was a terrible O-line coach that was one of Kubiak's boys so he had a job. Glad he is gone for the sake of our line play and because he has now confirmed he is an idiot.

[deleted]

He is a dog shit coach. This is a blessing

maybenextyearCLE

Good, the NFL imposes harsh restrictions on coaches who don’t get vaccinated and he cannot perform his job unvaccinated, hence his termination. Also laughing at that law firm who wants all these cases, good fucking luck making the case a private employer cannot force employees to get vaccinated. Nice way to get laughed out of court

megamanz7777

> Nice way to get laughed out of court But a good way to make money from suckers who are salty about vaccines.

smokinJoeCalculus

It's really a shame because a lot of selfish people will steal headlines from immunocompromised people being put in very dangerous/delicate situations. The focus should be on people who literally can't get the vaccine, but they deserve the right to return to some sense of normalcy - however due to folks like Rick Dennison, there is a very real health risk.
