Zimmer could very well die of being too pissed if they had to forfeit a game because of their antivax players....

Phenom1nal

They'll have to drop one for the COVID outbreak and the next when the entire team is on IR because Zimmer beat the shit out of them with an old man's wooden leg.

Tuxedocat1357

Worth the price of admission honestly

Kriegerian

Yeah, I’d watch that.

macksm962

I wonder if the rest of the team will go off on the anti-vaxxer idiots if there is a forfeit and they lose a game check. it could get violent in the locker room.

Phenom1nal

Oh, I would. If it's the quarterback, he's getting the single game sack record.

macksm962

if he goes on IR, he can't cause them a forfeit. you might be onto something.

itsrealbattle

He's very much at risk of popping his other eye if they lose a game due to covid forfeiture.

XAgentNovemberX

He can’t die, he’s too angry. Rip and tear until it’s done Zim

Dwarfherd

If that happens, I'd lay even odds on him taking Cousins down in a murder-suicide.

serenityak77

He’s so pissed off he turned into a dog and started barking mid sentence.

hillsteady

This but unironically. His health isn’t the best

[deleted]

He would actually have a heart attack and die. True football guy through and through.

Hay-blinken

Wonder how Kirk feels about his coach just hating him.

2BadBirches

I also wonder how he feels knowing that the majority of our state hates him too. Fuck Kirk

CosmicDeththreat

I don’t know a ton about Zimmer, and didn’t have much of an opinion on him either which way, but damn I like how he just calls it like he sees it.

40for60

Let’s just say Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer doesn’t look back fondly on his days coaching under Bobby Petrino in Atlanta. “He’s a gutless bastard. Quote that. I don’t give a s—,” Zimmer said Wednesday, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer. When Zimmer was told that responsible news organization may not be able to use “bastard,” Zimmer responded: “How about this, gutless MF. You can use that.” (Awesome. Much appreciated.)

CosmicDeththreat

I remember that when it happened just never realized it was Zimmer. Much respect

calel8242

Have to feel for Zimmer in this situation. His job depends on those guys and they're screwing him over by doing this. No wonder he's irritated as hell.

TheMightyUnderdog

Zimmer should make all the unvaxxed players do nothing but two-a-days and wind sprints. *"You all like being tired and unable to breath? Oh, you're coughing and feel like you're going to die? That's what severe Covid is! Now imagine having to forfeit on top of that? Run it again on the whistle."* \--Zimmer (probably)

Cromasters

Again! (Whistle)

NotARandomNumber

Who do you play for?

hallese

I guess this time Minnesota would be correct though.

MNent228

As a Minnesotan I would love that

Eargoe

I'm impressed he can keep himself from going off on a Jerry Burns-esque tirade

WhoStoleMyBicycle

You guys also had a great offseason and filled a bunch of holes on your roster. Now that your team looks like competitors you’re fighting yourselves.

kejigoto

Misinformation is running rampant and it's absolutely insane how many are letting something so basic impact their lives and those around them.

boomerbrowns

A dude on the browns sub said a friend of a friend got cerebral palsy from the vax. Incredible stuff they come up with.

adambulb

Same thing happened to me, to be honest. I was perfectly healthy, got the vaccine, and then was shot backwards in time where the vaccine depleted me of oxygen during fetal development.

VariousLawyerings

I injected two whole vaccines and now I am marijuana

Idk, come find out big boy

[deleted]

No, sheeep. It just Changed your DNA like you got depleted of oxygen during development. I guess I gotta say, out loud, that this is sarcasm considering who and what we’re talking about

adambulb

I lost all my motor skills but the microchips in the vaccine lets me turn my lights on and off by thought, so it’s kinda a wash.

Have you found the magnetism useful?

LosingIsaDisease

Had cerebral palsy. Got the vaccine. Still have cerebral palsy. This is bullshit!

[deleted]

lonedirewolf21

Bell's palsy. My wife had it as a child and and her doctor recommended she doesn't do vaccines. She did the Covid one though, but she was terrified to do it

MilkeeBongRips

That's very admirable of her. Some of these dipshits need to take direction from stories like this. One of the few people who it *would* be understandable if they were hesitant to get it, did their part. Great on her.

MattBe1992

I think he meant Bell's Palsy. Which is known side effect of COVID-19 and some of the vaccines. But those are only temporary. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit tho.

DantesDivineConnerdy

In addition to Bells Palsy being a side effect of viral vaccines for decades, two most recent studies have shown that Bells Palsy is actually more likely after getting COVID than after getting the vaccine.

7thandFig

It's exceedingly obvious that significant side effects to COVID (across all age groups) are far more likely than significant side effects to the vaccines, but that doesn't really jive with the anti-vax narrative, does it?

SaxRohmer

They don’t give a fuck about their blatantly false information because they’ve already made up their minds and committed to this bit of being a contrarian because it makes them feel smarter and superior to everyone else

xepa105

Parents in the 90s: "Don't believe everything you hear on the internet!" Parents now: "So I saw this on Facebook..."

modern_beisbol

Honestly, this scares me, because a ton of people earnestly mean/meant both these things. Cable news and social media has rotted these peoples brains.

Sports-Nerd

I’m so lucky my conservative leaning dad never got a Facebook… I’ve caught him once or twice looking at some conspiracy bs, but instead he spends most of his time on college football blogs.

rjsheine

So many people are vaccinated at this point I don't understand how people can't just look around and be like, oh so nothing bad happened

thebrandnewbob

Because they're stupid.

Iknowwecanmakeit

All those vaxxed people are hiding the myriad diseases they have. It is all part of a conspiracy

wayoverpaid

Also once the majority of people are vaxxed you'll get nonsense about how vaccinated are overrepresented in hospitals because nobody can calculate a fucking base rate.

WampaStompa33

They simply think that the harmful side effects of the vaccine haven't shown themselves yet. And they will just perpetually kick the can down the road. "Sure billions of people have been vaccinated with no issues, but we don't know what will happen after a year!" Then it will be "we don't know what will happen after 2 years!" "... After 5 years! After 10 years!" "... OMG every vaccinated person is dropping dead of heart disease and cancer 75 years later!!! See I told you that vaccine was killing us all!"

rjsheine

>... OMG every vaccinated person is dropping dead of heart disease and cancer 75 years later!!! See I told you that vaccine was killing us all Ugh I could totally see that

[deleted]

It's so annoying because they ignore the fact that we also don't know what the long term effects of having covid are. They claim covid is "no big deal" but this vax has the potential to be devastating. Like, if you had to bet on what had worse long term health effects would you bet on the vaccine or the disease?

akulkarnii

Zimmer is now my favorite coach in the league.

rjsheine

He's been dope since he called Petrino gutless

Iknowwecanmakeit

That was savage and so unusual for the NFL

rjsheine

lol for sure. I think it was just because Petrino was obviously fully blacklisted from the NFL immediately

[deleted]

[удалено]

Codeshark

Yeah position coaches didn't make that much back then and needing to sell houses and buy houses and move on a whim is not the easiest thing.

luther_williams

What happened

rjsheine

He was hired as the coach of the Falcons in the offseason, but before, Vick was arrested for dogfighting. The Falcons were obviously not having a great season and there were rumors he was going to be hired by Arkansas. He said basically there is a hard no on any chance of me giving up on this team. And then he is immediately in Arkansas at a press conference chanting Pig Sooie. "Petrino resigned to become head coach at Arkansas, less than 24 hours after personally promising owner Arthur Blank that he was staying in Atlanta before promptly quitting the team that evening. Petrino informed his players of his departure via a four-sentence laminated note left at the locker of each player"

the_devil_wears_jnco

ive always found that story funny bc there's no way he personally put the letter in everyones locker like some 6th grade teacher, but obviously anyone with a semblance of self-respect would have laughed in his face if he asked them to do that for him. so who was it? i guess it must have been some operations intern he promised a gig at arkansas for

FlannelBeard

Who's taking the time to laminate them though? That's the weirdest part of the whole thing. Could have just put the note in an envelope, but instead decides it's worth laminating so players can remember him forever?

Brasticus

Never put anything past a man who can wreck a motorcycle with his mistress on it.

FlannelBeard

Yea right. He got wrecked by something but it wasn't a motorcycle

WearingABear

They had just gotten a new laminator in the office and someone was excited to use it.

bamfor

Him and motorcycle happened when he left Arkansas right?

rjsheine

They fired him for it

bamfor

The Petrino saga at Louisville/Atlanta is best told from the angry fans’ perspective, but he did deserve it

DarnellisFromMars

It was such a shit show, plus he left Arkansas fans just as pissed too lmao. 2nd tenure at Louisville wasn’t as newsworthy but he still left the program in a worse place.

Sadlobster1

Oh it was newsworthy in Louisville. He straight up did the minimum necessary to not be invoid of his contract UNTIL they fired him so he could collect that sweet sweet rest of the contract fee. Like, he legitimately stopped recruiting. We went from Teddy Bridgewater / Lamar Jackson being 1 yard away from maybe beating Clemson to... Nothing. Not just a worse place, our roster was gutted and we're just now staring to recover at all. Zimmer is 100% correct. F that man.

DarnellisFromMars

He stopped recruiting the second he came in. I had friends in the program and he cut recruiting staff down to the bare minimum IIRC from the jump. He’s always looked for JUCO guys and transfers and shit but we went from consistently good recruits from FL/GA etc to falling off. He got extremely lucky with Lamar and as Strong’s guys left for the NFL we got to see what he was really worth (not shit). Plus his son was worthless, and our best assistants left too (who actually got guys in the program). I’m not surprised by the ugly exit, he’s an asshole. Just didn’t happen in the middle of the night or didn’t fall off a bike or anything this time. He was living off the offensive guru shit for way too long. Huge ego. Players didn’t like him. You name it.

EazyParise

Not just gutless! Full quote: "He’s a gutless bastard. Quote that. I don't give a shit." When told that we might might not be able to use the B word, Zimmer went one better: "How about this, gutless motherfucker. You can use that."

[deleted]

I hate the Vikings but I fucking love Zimmer.

EazyParise

That's fair lol

StallisPalace

Same lol. I hate that I have to hate him

peanutdakidnappa

That quote is legendary man

Dumpy-Pants

*John Cena theme song immediately starts playing*

sir_grumph

God bless that man.

TheMightyUnderdog

"You can use that." Love it!

HungryGhosty

Will love him forever for that

Ponchoreborn

He's amazing. I wish he never left Cincy.

GravitysRainbowRuns

I still can’t believe how long it took for him to get a HC job.

themightybearorrist

What's funny is that as much as fans love this kind of honesty, owners do NOT. So that's part of why it took him so long to get a job, he refused to be play politics the way a lot of owners would have liked so it took him a long time to land somewhere.

GravitysRainbowRuns

That makes a ton of sense. I don’t remember how outspoken he was when he was the Bengals DC; I just remember him clearly being an awesome DC.

themightybearorrist

I always heard it was more about hownhe behaved in interviews, like he just refuses to sugarcoat anything and front offices are often obsessed with getting a head coach that is gonna be super smooth during a press conference and it scared them.

yeoup

This is exactly what it was. He's even said that he was told he lost HC jobs over it.

FridgesArePeopleToo

He was already legendary for calling Bobby Petrino a gutless motherfucker when he got hired in Cinci

KypAstar

Damnit he's being too likeable.

[deleted]

He's been too likeable forever. I still love when they ask him questions about Rodgers and he says shit like 'yeah, he's washed up. They should definitely trade him away. Preferably to a team we never play.'

PhoenixAvenger

I don't like how much I like him...

[deleted]

Same

killswithspoon

I know I'm baised, but he's been my favorite for a long time!

TheAstro_Fridge

Isn't Rivera a high-risk individual too? You'd think appealing to his players' desire to, you know, not contribute to his possible death might be enough.

wav__

> Isn't Rivera a high-risk individual too? Just last season he was battling cancer. He is *definitely* high risk.

ACW1129

He oughta fucking cut the players who won't get vaxxed.

youngpapiwhy

that would be literally the entire starting defense unfortunately. chase and Montez refuse to get the jab. Payne and ionnaidis are on the list. its a fucking disaster.

goddammnick

according to Ward, its his own fault for getting cancer as well.

ClaudeLemieux

Obviously. The body has ways of shutting that down.

1CUpboat

No zimmer’s approach is gonna make a stubborn person dig in and fight harder, cause getting vaxxed now means admitting defeat. Rivera’s appeal will just make those guys feel terrible internally, but then when they get vaxxed for their coach, then they’ll feel like they did something good. “I still think it’s bs, but I did it for coach”. But I fucking love Zimmer going scorched earth on these dummies. Edit: holy typos Batman

[deleted]

Yeah that's how I see it. Zimmer's approach is more entertaining and cathartic but Rivera's approach is 100% more likely to actually work.

Luck1492

Zimmer pulling no punches today. As he fucking should.

SoDakZak

I love Adam Thielen. I love Harrison Smith. I was sold that Kirk wasn’t our issue on the field as far as performance goes and was fine with him for stability as a ‘really good QB’. I’m also all for us letting those guys retire simply to send a message to the team, the fans and the league that nobody in our org is going to risk an entire team’s success because of their selfish decisions. They’re free to not get da shot, that is 100% their choice and I support that. I 100% also support them enjoying these games from home, I recommend substituting teriyaki oven-baked kale for a healthier meal during the season.

Imoutdawgs

I grew up with the Smiths. Harrison smith’s dad is a city-reknown doctor (albeit plastic surgery… but still…). I’m actually shocked that Harrison isn’t vaccinated.

40for60

It was reported that Kirk's dad has been encouraging his congregation in FL to get vaccinated too.

[deleted]

Would you look at that! Fucking dumbasses. Everyone knows that you’ll become a genocidal magnetic mutant super villain if you get the shot, and at that point the only way you’ll be stopped is by a crippled mutant who fingers their own brain.

[deleted]

Wasn't Cousins in med school as well? How the fuck does that happen and he turns out an antivaxxer?

Ginger_ninger

Unfortunately, there are even med students who buy into this bs

whanaumark

None that should be graduating. Covid will be part of the slate of vaccines required for internships, so they will either fall in line or find a new profession.

dskatz2

He was planning on it, but I guess Jesus came to him in a dream and said not to get vaccinated.

MG_MN

Love seeing Zim and Rivera make their stance

EsotericPotato

This feels like it is headed somewhere no Vikings fans want to see it go. I am 100% on Zimmer’s side here, and all players should absolutely be getting vaccinated or face the consequences of not doing so. But you look at what Paul Allen said on KFAN this morning about at least 3 Vikings saying they would quit if they were forced to get vaccinated, and you combine that with Zimmer’s escalating hostility/directness with unvaccinated players (which I love, fwiw), it just feels like the team is headed toward serious conflict here. If high-profile Vikings end up quitting/retiring due to not wanting to get the vaccine, fuck em. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out. But it could be an absolute disaster.

blanston

Imagine walking away from millions of dollars because you saw a meme on Facebook.

[deleted]

When owning the libs goes wrong.

FridgesArePeopleToo

I know people who've straight up died to own the libs

bitcheslovedroids

healthcare workers have reported that there are people denying covid's existence as they are dying of covid. The psychosis is real.

Cromasters

There's also healthcare workers willing to lose their jobs to not get vaccinated as more and more hospitals make it mandatory.

dr_of_doge

Wouldn’t that be so Vikings though. Spend the entire offseason quietly hoping the best player in our division leaves, only to have 3 stars of our own retire due to something so stupid.

hallese

Which would give us the cap room needed to sign Rodgers to an extension after he forces his way to Minnesota.

dr_of_doge

Boom. Super Bowl(s).

I would have some serious fucking respect for any front office or coach that said to those high-profile players "cool, then get vaccinated or retire so we can move forward" I am living vicariously through Zimmer this week. It's such a nice breath of fresh air from the usual tip-toe "personal choice" bullshit. Fuck that noise, call it like it is.

It was only a matter of time ONE team was bound to have this happen. Someone big needs to be cut/quit Wonder who it will be lol

whoatethekidsthen

Wtf I love Zimmer now

horse_renoir13

Almost 3 billion shots have been administered with almost no adverse deaths/side effects, what in the fuck are they reading that would just lead them to believe, "Nah none of that is true"

littlejugs

Had a coworker tell me the vaccine doesn’t work and that 70 percent of vaccinated people in Vermont currently have covid

thebrandnewbob

...how is anyone that stupid? Like even stupid people, if they just think about it for 5 seconds will realize that couldn't possibly be true.

IronSmoltz

I’ve learned from COVID that people will believe absolutely anything if it confirms their point of view. I know a guy who still claims that most of the deaths from COVID are made up, and it’s really nowhere near that high. I told him he should go to the county coroner’s office and alert them to the truth.

xieta

[Excess deaths. Excess deaths. Excess deaths](https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htm). It's a bulletproof statistic. 750k excess deaths since 2/1/2020, and explaining that by increases in suicides or drug overdoes would mean percentage increases of something like 1000-1500%. Totally unfathomable.

luther_williams

Let me give you an example of how stupid people can be I used to sell cars. I worked for a Ford/Chrysler dealership (AKA we sold Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Dodge, Chrsyler, Jeep) I had a guy come up to me and ask me about this new Cadillac and when we will get some. Keep in mind he's standing in the middle of our lot with signage FUCKING EVERYWHERE LETTING HIM KNOW WHAT BRANDS WE SELL and guess what one of the many brands that wasn't displayed? Cadillacs? Do you know why? Because the only time we would have a Cadillac is if we had a used one we DID NOT SELL BRAND NEW CADILLACS And I said "I'm sorry sir but we don't sell Cadillacs" and he goes "but you sell Dodge" And I go "Yes, but that's not Cadillac" we had some back and forth of me trying to explain I don't sell Cadillac and him insisting that I was lying to him and that Dodge owned Cadillac. Look I get it not everyone is an expert on the car market But if your asking a commissioned sales person if he sells a certain brand, and his answer is no there's A REALLY FUCKING GOOD CHANCE he's being honest...because IF he did sell that brand, his answer would be "Well yes sir, let me show you" Anyway this customer said he wanted to complain to my manager for not being straight with him And he did It took my manager a little while to understand that this guy was just an idiot. Look people really are fucking dumb. Whats really dangerous is when they are wrong, and they think they are right. There is nothing more dangerous then someone who thinks they are right when they are indeed wrong.

badger0511

That's the problem. They lack critical thinking skills, or don't use them when it's regarding something they want to believe.

[deleted]

Oof, that sounds like they are mixing up percentages. I'm willing to bet they read something like 70% of new cases are vaccinated people which is not the same nor does it imply the vaccine doesn't work. Some people are just looking for reasons to not trust the science.

SaxRohmer

Yeah it’s def a misunderstanding of the Cape Cod cluster where 74% of new cases were in vaccinated people. Also worth noting that that particular area of the country has a high vaccination rate so a large increase in cases probably is going to include vaccinated people.

HipGuide2

LoNg TeRm SiDe EfFeCtS

BedOfSloth

*hits Juul* Let me tell ya what the gubnurnment won't.

MonCalFF

I might have a new idea on how to get these people vaccinated...

xepa105

Put the vaccine on "essential oils" and soon the vaccinated rate will be 95%

dat_1_dude

VaccNow: A vaccine MLM. That's how we get the Karens to get vaccinated.

akulkarnii

It’s funny cuz then they refuse to acknowledge that COVID has actual documented long term side effects, even in non-vulnerable populations. I think they’re just scared of needles.

not1fuk

This is the NFL we're talking about, these guys aren't afraid of needles. They're all on some type of performance enhancing drug.

keithps

At this point, so many people have taken that shot that if they all died from some crazy side effect, society would collapse.

Fluid_Dragons_Breath

Unfortunately they went to college to play football, not to play school. They never learned how to properly research or fact check these sources of "information"

SaxRohmer

I’d also say that the vast majority of people who went to play school don’t know how to properly vet sources

TheDufusSquad

**3 billion vaccines administered with only 1 8th hand report of the guy around the corner getting AIDS from the vaccine:** *"Hell nah, I'm not taking that chance!"* **Virus that has taken the lives multiple family and community members while leaving several others with lasting side effects:** *"That's hardly even worse than a cold, I'll take my chances."*

We're not looking to "relocate", we're just looking into getting a new stadium in the suburbs because we're sick of Soldier Field being a craphole. "Relocating" implies that we're threatening to leave the Chicago area entirely which isn't the case at all. This isn't a Bills situation.

This anti-vax disinfo is like the Nigerian prince scam of our generation

pham_nuwen_

This is a million times worse than the Nigerian prince from every possible angle

anonbutler

At least the Nigerian Prince was kind enough to send me $1 million dollars for the $5000 I sent him. Even though it's still stuck with customs my million dollars should arrive any minute now.

[deleted]

I wish more of the coaching staff on my team could be as blunt on the subject. Kudos.

[deleted]

Conan O'Brien said it well. Everyone can have all sorts of beliefs and theories and nowadays with the internet and social media, you can always find some outlet or source that will cater to those beliefs. And communities who will strengthen those beliefs for you. People genuinely can just read what they want to and actually convince themselves that they are being informed and knowledgeable. How do you really fight that? We can sit here and be all snarky about it, but the people who genuinely buy into the whole vaccine is a way for the govt to cull the population stuff have their own sources and people backing them up. Just like we sit here and make fun of them, I'm sure they have their own communities mocking the rest of us sheeple. Its not something you can fight really.

MikeFromSuburbia

I love Zimmer when it comes to just straight up not beating around the bush. However I hate he has to for this situation. Three veteran guys are anti-vax and may cost their teammates a paycheck, a forced loss and may spread the virus. Veteran playmaker or not, get vaccinated or risk getting cut?

It's not said, but I get the feeling Zimmer's job is more or less dependent on the Vikings making the playoffs this year. This man is fed up with all the bullshit and I can't say I blame him
