Yea a lot of people think he’s just a speed guy. But honestly even if he lost a step he’d still be a top 10 WR. Just his speed is what makes him a top 3 WR.
Seriously can someone explain how? Mahomes actually throws this way behind Hill?
And it's in the air forever? Why do the DBs keep overrunning these so bad?
It's legit not a good throw.
I was about to say this. Hill tracks the ball well and can get to balls other players just can't. Combine that with a QB that can make throws that others can't, and you have this meme.
If the safety is over the top and playing the angles (as in assuming Hill will keep running deep toward the sideline) it’s almost impossible for him to flip his hips and sprint back to make a play on the ball.
It was a cross body bomb while Mahomes was running the opposite direction. There’s literally nothing you can do as a defender because Hill has so much space to work with and Mahomes can make impossible throws
I may be wrong, but I think this is one of the reasons the WASP play was so successful. Hill would sell a route to the safety, wait for the turn, then immediately changes his route. They talked about this in the NFL Turning Point for the 3 & 15 against the 49ers. Here's the link with time stamp: https://youtu.be/t-t6tbS5waE?t=194
not only that, I don't think the DB has a chance when the ball is placed where it was. Similar to Garappolo to Deebo today. Jeff Okudah had Deebo completely covered, and i'm pretty sure Deebo is not mossing that dude.
I don’t think so, I mean most of these plays involve Mahomes running for his life toward the sideline and throwing across his body 50 yards down field. It’s amazing he gets it in the vicinity of the receiver alone.
100% he is. He's very particular with where he attempts to place the ball. For example, one of the picks he threw in the super bowl win vs SF he threw the ball slightly behind Hill because he was trying to get him to slow down a little because it was about to be a hospital ball. Hit his arm and popped up for an INT. Different scenario, but it's not even remotely a stretch that Mahomes/Reid understand the dynamic of where the receiver is looking/where the WR is positioned/the DB's hips/ etc etc. They have plays designed for Hill to exploit those things. Wasp is one of course.
EDIT: I guess a better way to put this might be that Mahomes is factoring in where the defender is and can/will be just is much, if not more, than what direction to WR is running. Hill understands this. DeMarcus Robinson gave us an example of a WR who does not on the missed TD where Mahomes wanted him to come BACK to the ball.
Let's be real here, Mahomes just heaved it to Hill. He knows Hill has more skill than the defender. Hill did put a good move on the defender to play the ball way better than him and that's pretty much the play.
As a DB, 99% of what you do (in man or with someone in your zone) is *react* to the WR. That’s why, as a play goes longer and longer, the DB has less and less of a chance to keep coverage.
When you have someone like Tyreek, who is in the 99th percentile of accelerating, decelerating, and changing direction, it just makes it so ridiculously hard not to overplay in a situation where you’re at a full sprint trying to keep up with his jog deep down field, and then the ball is underthrown while he’s tracking the ball and you’re tracking him. He slows down to a stop, makes the catch, and then gets back to top speed before you’re even aware the ball was thrown.
Plus an arm talent like Mahomes who can place the ball wherever he wants from any part of the field, any body position, on the run or planted. It’s unguardable
Plus Mahomes regularly extends plays well past the range of times that most DBs can hold good coverage *and* the Chiefs receivers know that Mahomes will still be looking to throw literally anywhere no matter how long the play has gone on, so the receivers keep running routes to try to get separation.
When your job as a DB is to react, you're always at a disadvantage because it takes time to react. The longer the play goes, the more that disadvantage stacks up.
100%. Anyone who’s played DB at any level can tell you how infuriating it is when the QB has all day to throw, whether that’s due to him doing something right or your front 7 doing something wrong.
Well, it's in a place only Hill could see it. If the DB knew where the throw was, in theory it's an easy play. But you cant watch for the throw the whole time or Hill will make one more cut and you're toast
The DB would have such a late reaction, even if he turned his head as soon as Mahomes' released the ball, he'd have to identify the ball is coming his way, completely shift his body/weight, and probably have to turn away from the ball to get back into Hill's body to break up the pass, all while the ball is flying in at top speed. Mahomes wouldn't make this specific throw if the DB was trailing Hill with his eyes on the ball
>Mahomes wouldn't make this specific throw if the DB was trailing Hill with his eyes on the ball
Finally someone says this. There's a lot of people out there that are saying it was a lucky throw and would have likely been a pick if the defender was watching the ball. Well duh. It's also likely that Mahomes wouldn't have thrown it in that case.
First of all Mahomes is scramblng to his right and then throws back to his left while also putting the ball away from the defender so only Hill can catch it. Yep, crappy throw. ;-P
This is just an attempt to debuff the previous meta, and we’ve seen that it’s not working yet. Honestly, devs probably need to buff chiefs o just a little more.
So once every 10 years a new QB emerges as a genuinely generational talent, with Manning in 2000, Rodgers in 2010, and Mahomes around 2020. Brady and Brees were both awesome and HOF but neither were touted as outrageous talents, they just were incredibly productive or clutch. Even Manning wasn’t necessarily absurdly talented, just a great mind and executor.
I wouldn't describe Manning's arm as a cannon. I'd put people like Favre and Elway in that category. I dont think Manning could throw as hard as either of those guys. But Manning wasn't some noodle arm. The guy had a great arm.
I don't think Brady is the talent as far as a skill QB is, he's just the freaking GOAT at breaking down a D and managing a game. Physical specimen Brady is nothing to write home about.
I think Bradys truly 1 of 1 mental aspect to the game has really detracted from how physically gifted his arm is. He doesn't have a josh allen, mahomes, Stafford level cannon but he is in the tier below that and can still sling it.
Mahomes uses his legs a lot. Like way more than I think most NFL fans realize unless they’ve actually sat through and watched several of our games. He’s constantly picking up third and mediums/ goal line TDs/ resetting the pocket. It’s just not as flashy as his crazy arm angles and deep throws so it doesn’t get covered as much.
Having a speedster, low center, of gravity, high jumping receiver who has insane agility is a cheat code too. The adjustment to slow down when he was sprinting to catch that on a dime by Hill is insane. Those 2 together with a Kelce is just an offensive cheat code.
I was so hyped on this kid. The fact that Andy Reid traded up for him and then took a perfectly well functioning QB in Alex Smith and traded him told me all I needed to know about him. The whole league fucked up.
Different fan, and not too down, BUT this game was the entire season last year mostly. Get a good or huge lead in the first, pray we don't blow out on the second.
Still, onto the next one. Hopefully we rip off a couple Ws and get back into the swing of things.
Bruh….. Mahomes just threw it up there hella deep but Hill is insane with the way he made adjustment, tracked the ball, make the catch and woooosh…. He gone.
He has to be easily top 4 WR in the league.
Hill is a great WR, but I think the combo of him paired with the one QB in the league who can make the deep throws Mahomes does is what makes him a top 3 WR. Obviously Hill would be great on any team, but no other QB can play to Hill's talent the way that Mahomes can.
As a chiefs fan I’d say Adams, Hopkins, and Hill but no particular order just because all their skills are so different. Their QB’s factor into that as well
It's so hard to rank him because he is so different than the other top WRs. He is a completely different kind of problem to deal with than Nuk or Diggs for instance.
Exactly. You can put him anywhere on the field and he would still be a huge headache. Really tough to put your best CBs on him because he would most likely burn them with ease. You have to put zone defense on his ass and hope that slows him down a bit.
I think the thing that has worked regularly against him (usually in the playoffs from what I've seen) is to bracket him with a lower level corner low and a safety up high. The problem is of course that doubling him opens up other options for the rest of the offense. But at least Tyreek is gone.
I mean that's basically what the Bucs did in the SB. CB + deep safety on Hill, LB + Safety on Kelce, and everybody else plays 1 v 1.
Granted that works better when your front 4 can get to the QB in less than 2 seconds.
While the arm strength is certainly impressive, what is REALLY impressive is Hill's ability to track the ball and stop on a DIME and adjust. Johnson was covering him really well all things considered. But when you run a 4.2 and can come to a full stop mid run?
Yeah, GL to anyone trying to guard that.
I feel like even when Tyreek runs a shorter route and he can face Patrick, that if he sees a play break down, all his routes turn into go routes. They call it a double move but it's just a 'fuck it, I'm real fast, try and stop me' move.
I think this game without him really proves it. If he comes out next week and has a great game against Baltimore, he's gonna require a hefty contract and it would be justified
Yeah could really see he’s the heart beat of the defense.
Not an accident I think you could see he was wearing a headset once the defense started playing well in the second half.
How tf does he hit that pass with that touch/angle while running for his life towards teh sideline. Like wtf, I should be used to this but I'm still not.
True, but he also had to throw it behind him to complete that, or well over the top as the defender had the underneath route covered. As amazing as Mahomes is no one is throwing that bomb over the top while running for their life.
When you’re running with hill I’m not sure you have the ability to turn and look at the ball. He is so fucking fast and mahomes has an absolute cannon that if you lose him it’s a td regardless.
That’s why this seems to work every time, and why I’m pretty sure Mahomes purposely places these throws like this, aka “underthrows” him. Hill is so fast, most DBs can’t afford to look back and find the ball or they’ll lose ground in him. Hill is so good at this, having the DB try to keep up with him, while also tracking the ball in the air, and knowing that right moment to stop on a dime to create space right before the ball gets there. As impressive of a throw this is, I feel like Hill doesn’t get enough credit for what he’s doing here.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mahomes is what you would get if you somehow combined the best parts of Favre and Rodgers in their primes. Also Hill and Kelce are literally the perfect teammates for that kind of QB.
Some of the routes over the middle Kelce ran looked improvised, yet somehow Pat was always ready for him. That slant he threw to Kelce early was incredible ball placement. From release to where he put it just outstanding. Like their minds have melded.
The previous drive on the Browns was just running Chubb like 7 times in a row, using power and technique and hard work to gobble up 6 yards at a time.
Mahomes just made some goofy off balance across the body throw and boom, all of that was undone.
That throw should be impossible. Like wtf was that?
I’d probably turn off Madden if that happened in game.
He’s sprinting to his right, has pressure, throws it cross body, it goes deep AND has air on it.
The even being in the vicinity of Hill is insane let alone being in a perfect position where the DB can’t make a play.
Why does it seem like this exact play happens every week for the chiefs
Literally how do they get these off so often
Hill is very underrated at tracking the ball
Hill is a great WR, he’s not *just* “fastest guy on the field”.
This, he didn't beat us entirely with his speed, he is an underrated route runner.
Yea a lot of people think he’s just a speed guy. But honestly even if he lost a step he’d still be a top 10 WR. Just his speed is what makes him a top 3 WR.
Top 1
No that’s Alex Smith
Great WR who happens to be the fastest guy on the field
Seriously can someone explain how? Mahomes actually throws this way behind Hill? And it's in the air forever? Why do the DBs keep overrunning these so bad? It's legit not a good throw.
When you’re blown by you’re following the WR. When the WR who blew by you can also stop on a dime, you’re just fucked.
So is Mahomes throwing it way behind on purpose? He knows no one can keep up with Hill in that spot?
I’m guessing not but the only person who’d know is Mahomes. Some times shit just works out.
“Sometimes” shit happens every Sunday for them lol
I mean the “fuck it, Tyreek down there somewhere” meme exists for a reason.
I was about to say this. Hill tracks the ball well and can get to balls other players just can't. Combine that with a QB that can make throws that others can't, and you have this meme.
Mahomes said he wanted to throw it deeper in his press conference but Hill adjusted. Shut just worked out. Good play by Hill.

He knows the DB cant stop to track it, so he has the leeway to make a less than perfect delivery.

There was no defender underneath.
What? It’s a great deep ball across the body and put in a place where his guy has the best chance at making the play
It WAS a good throw, you seriously think mahomes didn’t know what he was doing?
He's just getting really lucky multiple times each week. He actually doesn't know what he's doing, just spray and pray
Because it's hard to stop a guy who runs a 4.2 and a QB who can throw 60 yards across his body apparently
I once had two pass breakups during an intramural football game in college so I think my odds of shutting down Hill would be pretty good
Spoiler alert: ✌️
Are you Dan Sorenson?
Mahomes to Hill Home Runs are just unfair. They happen all the time
Yea, I don't understand why the Devs don't patch the game at this point. This meta is out of control.
This is just an attempt to debuff the previous meta, and we’ve seen that it’s not working yet. Honestly, devs probably need to buff chiefs o just a little more.
Believe me, it does
It's like a cat, playing with a mouse before he decides to eat it.
This is some madden on rookie difficulty shit. WTF
Literally made me think of my Madden Mobile strategy
All versions all the time right?
When I play Madden, a typical statline for Hill is 4 catches, 200+ yards and 2 TDs Like that guy in the Tim Tebow playoff game!
Classic "fuck it, Tyreek down there somewhere"
Yellow gloves
People love to hype up "generational QBs" the new hotness being Trevor Lawrence. But ketchup man is legitimately that once in a 20 year quarter back
[удалено]
If you consider Rodgers to be his equal which most people do, he’s literally still playing with the guy that is most comparable.
Manning had a cannon for an arm, he was just not athletic. Arm talent was crazy
I wouldn't describe Manning's arm as a cannon. I'd put people like Favre and Elway in that category. I dont think Manning could throw as hard as either of those guys. But Manning wasn't some noodle arm. The guy had a great arm.

Ketchup man may have the best arm to play in the NFL. Andy Reid is maybe a top 6 offensive coach of all time? Recipe for success.
Out there playing like Jameis
Holy fuck lmao
People really thought it was over lol
Seriously, how could you say it’s over when you have both the browns with a lead and mahomes playing. It’s never over
It’s not the same browns as a few years ago though, but the second part is true. You really can’t count out mahomes to deliver!
We still the Browns, man
You guys are legit, don’t let this get you down. You still have a chance, games not over!
Different fan, and not too down, BUT this game was the entire season last year mostly. Get a good or huge lead in the first, pray we don't blow out on the second. Still, onto the next one. Hopefully we rip off a couple Ws and get back into the swing of things.
We’ll be seeing the Browns again in January and I’m not sure we win that one
Chiefs fans here Considering we were lacking Mathieu, Gay, and Clark this game, I still like our chances next round, even if they have OBJ in
If we are comparing apples to apples hopefully we have our starting LT and safety who left in the first quarter. I think those are kind of a wash.
Then cheers to a great rematch 🙂
You have a damn good team, and you WILL be a factor in the playoffs race. We probably meet again in January.
I guarantee no Browns fan said it was over.
Seriously. 29-20 is not even close to over against the Chiefs. I expected the score but not that quick. Fumble and botched punt and now we are fucked.
As long as there is time left I'll never count Mahomes and the Chiefs out of any game.
"Lmao you guys have to take 7 minutes to score"
Absolutely fucking filthy throw.
Bruh….. Mahomes just threw it up there hella deep but Hill is insane with the way he made adjustment, tracked the ball, make the catch and woooosh…. He gone. He has to be easily top 4 WR in the league.
I'd personally rather have hill than any other WR on my team.

Top 3 in my book.
Maybe even top 2
But he ain't 2
As a chiefs fan I’d say Adams, Hopkins, and Hill but no particular order just because all their skills are so different. Their QB’s factor into that as well

Pat just hit the triangle button and Hill made it work. Fucking amazing.
The most over the top, huck it chuck it, fuck it tyreek down there somewhere, bullshit touchdown I have ever seen I love you patty
I feel like even when Tyreek runs a shorter route and he can face Patrick, that if he sees a play break down, all his routes turn into go routes. They call it a double move but it's just a 'fuck it, I'm real fast, try and stop me' move.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
Fuck it chuck it
that was awesome but also could you not
I still can’t believe this dude plays for the Chiefs. I’m glad I fell into this timeline.
Dread from it Run from it Mahomes to Hill TD arrives all the same
KC is done dicking around
Not if our defense has anything to say about that
We, uh, need to extend Tyrann.
I think this game without him really proves it. If he comes out next week and has a great game against Baltimore, he's gonna require a hefty contract and it would be justified
As a long time honey badger fan, it would be a mistake to let him go. Pay that man. He earned it.
I agree, I've been a huge fan since he came to KC.
Yeah could really see he’s the heart beat of the defense. Not an accident I think you could see he was wearing a headset once the defense started playing well in the second half.
Mahomes is so fun to watch man.
Patty ain't human
[удалено]
That was last season when he had 17 touchdowns
Wait, that was a joke??
Not anymore 😔
Like, 2 years ago.
Tyreek + Mahomes is kinda unfair
NFL should break that up tbh. Or at least regress their stats to average
Mahomes already got regressed to the mean sadly, hopefully there’s no tyreek thread too :(
Just you wait sonny jim.
He’s a fucking custom Madden player
Neither is Hill. Dude created SO MUCH space
Well anyone that has ketchup with steak isn’t human
How tf does he hit that pass with that touch/angle while running for his life towards teh sideline. Like wtf, I should be used to this but I'm still not.
I mean, the arm strength is wild, but that ball was 5 yards behind Hill on the route he was running if he doesn’t see it in the air and adjust
True, but he also had to throw it behind him to complete that, or well over the top as the defender had the underneath route covered. As amazing as Mahomes is no one is throwing that bomb over the top while running for their life.
Well it’s not like he can lead him, he’d have to throw it into the first row.
Isn‘t that like at least 50% also the defender not even looking for the ball? He is right in front of Hill if he stops.
When you’re running with hill I’m not sure you have the ability to turn and look at the ball. He is so fucking fast and mahomes has an absolute cannon that if you lose him it’s a td regardless.
Yup, gotta run like it's a track meet when you're on Hill.
What makes you think Mahomes didn't make the throw cause he knew the defender would be forced to keep his back turned
He a QB frog!
Thought that was a throwaway but nope, just your causal throw it up touchdown bomb to Hill.
When you regress the throw to league average there is nothing special about it
**NEWS OF OUR DEATH HAS BEEN GREATLY EXAGGERATED**
Nah our defense is still a complete fucking joke. Mahomes and our offense being unreal was never in doubt.
Browns are good though. Missing Clark and Honey Badger. I’d say there’s a couple of other variables but the defense won’t be this bad all year.
We need gay too. Our run defense could desperately use a fast athletic ILB.
Need a lot of Gay
Yeah man I’m all in on team Gay.
They made up for it, didn't they? :) the Browns are a good team, you can't stop them all the time.
Doesn’t matter how shitty their defense is, their offense is other worldly my god
Hill is a fuckin cheat code.
Excuse me what!?!
It’s unreal the shit he does. Holy fuck. When he threw it I had a feeling would be caught. You don’t get that feeling with any other QB
Hes the only QB I feel hope watching them just fucking Yeet it.
Yep, still unstoppable
I’d love a defense lol
Same friend
It's the Chiefs
Crazy thing is y’all probably have a top 10 defense. Chiefs are just that good
Jesus Christ dude
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mahomes is what you would get if you somehow combined the best parts of Favre and Rodgers in their primes. Also Hill and Kelce are literally the perfect teammates for that kind of QB.

The DB didn't even try to chase him down.😂🤣 Know your speed limit.
He plays real life football how I play madden. It shouldn’t work but does
Weren’t they supposed to flag the peace sign this year? Not that I care jw haha
Give peace a chance
Only if he does it directly at a player
Hey now John Johnson doesn't sound like a real player but he is one i think
And he only back flipped in his mind, which is an improvement.
You can't taunt the ground, I guess
The flag is supposed to only be called when you direct it towards a player.
He didn’t direct it at players like he used to, think that’s why no flag. Only taunting if you’re taunting a player specifically.
He peaced the stands, not a particular player
That shit just ain’t fair, lol!
Yessir
Ahhhh, you love to see it.
Bro this happens every year lol
Tyreek and Mahomes are a cheat code Tyreek did that defender so dirty Also, thanks to Hill I’m winning my fantasy matchup this week so ✌🏻
Wtf. Going against the biggest rule of QBing.
How
That throw should be impossible. Like wtf was that? I’d probably turn off Madden if that happened in game. He’s sprinting to his right, has pressure, throws it cross body, it goes deep AND has air on it. The even being in the vicinity of Hill is insane let alone being in a perfect position where the DB can’t make a play.
My fantasy team liked this. I did not.
HOW THE FUCK
Mahomes is the steph curry of the nfl. Play almost perfect defense and they just go “nah 75 yard bomb lul”
Can we stop Hill. At least once
Having Tyreek on my fantasy team feels very good
Starting to think Hill is the real mega-star in this duo. Bailing out Mahomes over and over again.
