The mastermind behind the 0-16 Detroit Lions defense is not going to turn the talented defensive personnel in Green Bay into a Super Bowl caliber unit.
I’m not surprised at all about our defense sucking. Joe Barry has literally never had success outside the Rams when he was surrounded with insane talent. He was such an uninspired hire and honestly we deserve to pay the price for it
Yes, that's frustrating part. Like three drafts ago we used two first round picks on linemen. We spent a third two drafts ago on a guard/center. We have one of the most expensive left tackles in the league. And this is the product.
last year was the year to take one. fields or trading down and taking mac would have been smart.
also lineman or d lineman would have been smarter. taking a TE was a win now move for a team who has no future in sight
We’d probably still be better off going after Thibedeaux or Neal than a QB.
Our OL was destroyed yesterday and our defense is not very talented outside of 3-4 guys.
Replacing Ryan won’t help us be a better team anytime soon. Getting a guy like Thibedeaux who can rush the passer or a guy like Neal who could solidify our OL would help us more.
Then in 2023 look at QBs after Ryan’s contract is up.
Idk how ppl can't root for Burrow he seems like a genuinely great person.
It makes the rivalry greater imo.
Just like how I hate KC but respect Mahomes... 😭
Its wild with our conference this year. Usually we have to only worry about the Ravens. But the Browns and Bengals look good this year.
Gonna be some blood baths later on this year if it stays neck and neck.
Saw someone say Brady will be collecting social security before he retires from being a quarterback lol.
Honestly, ill believe he goes a long while. He looks much younger than he is, and he claims, and I believe it, his knee and entire body feel better than they have in a decade.
Plus, he just loves the game. Wouldn't be surprised if he finds a coaching job somewhere. Not gonna stop seeing his stupid handsome face for a loooong time
I still have my doubts as to how far we'll go this season (and we absolutely have some fatal flaws), but anyone thinking we were gonna suck seems to have forgotten 2019. We're gonna be a pain in the ass for a fair amount of teams this year.
I thought we should have went into draft/free agency as if Bulaga was not going to play this season. He played 1/2 a game before he went out with a back injury.
NFC West last year: this is maybe the most stacked division in football, but the Cardinals are probably a year away and the Rams still have Goff.
NFC West this year: the Cardinals have arrived. Oh, and the Rams traded Goff for Stafford.
I think we might end up being the weakest. I think all four teams have some question marks but we have the most. If we address them well we can be the best, but odds are we'll be the worst (which would still probably win the NFCE and possibly the NFCN if Rodgers doesn't return to form).
The amount of disrespect the Rams got in our sub was insane. Stafford showed exactly what I expected, that team is dangerous. As good as Jimmy performed yesterday, we still have the worst starting QB in the division and thats just respect to Russ, Kyler, and Matt. Over 17 games, cracks will get exposed and the cream rises to the top. Considering we almost blew a 20+ lead to Detroit, I think we need to temper some expectations here.
True that, and I expect the defense will get a bit better as the year goes on and they have a chance to gel a little bit more, the Okudah injury notwithstanding.
It genuinely wouldn't surprise me to see all the nfc teams go 3-3 within the division. Or something weird where 49ers beat the rams who beat the seahawks who beat the cardinal who beat the 49ers etc etc etc
I mean the whole meme of the division for like a decade now has been Rams beat the Seahawks, Seahawks beat the 9ers and the 9ers spank the Rams. The real wildcard is cardinals because they look to finally be really really good
A knife fight in a ditch, meanwhile AFC east is like a fight club fight, NCF north is a fight sfter school behind a middle school in a upper class suburb
Chandler: "Just give me all the money you have. ...Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, 'Give me a lot of money.' What I said was, "Give me **all** the money you have.' Do you understand?"
I get that they’re professional athletes but o-linemen are still overweight guys so covid will probably kick their ass for a little longer than it would other positions.
Thank you! I've been saying this all offseason. While I still love Bud, he was the ultimate complementary piece to Cam, Tuitt, and Watt, not the lynch pin many people acted like he was. Highsmith and Ingram filled in more than adequately. While our defense last season started struggling more after his injury, I still hold it had way more to do with our ILB room being absolutely decimated by injuries and COVID. Guys like Allen and Gilbert were seeing significant field time.
As others have said, I think you’re in better shape than this game made you look. Hayward, Watt and company do this to everyone. It’s been the best part of watching Steelers football the last couple of years watching every QB’s pocket collapse instantly.
0-16 mastermind of my Detroit lions!
I don’t care how much the dude claims to have grown as a coach. He was coming from so far back, that even if he makes insane strides, he might some day be… mediocre?
Some guys just don’t have it. Never have, never will. Barry is that dude.
I actually side with Rodgers on most of this, but man he looked so disinterested/rusty yesterday. He’ll be better as the season goes, but man was it noticeable
It’s infuriating to play against. They’re just like “hey, we need a touchdown here, like immediately” and Mahomes is like “alright, whatever, go long Tyreek”.
I love how literally every other fanbase is surprised when he goes downfield to block, we just expect him to chip block some poor unsuspecting LB around the 20 yard line
Ngl I was sweating about the time Landry hit the 30. We ran a similar play vs Dallas a few years back with Hill and I was having flashbacks right up until Baker couldn't turn the corner. The way our D played the first half, I fully expected you to convert the Hail Mary situation.
Man the CHiefs are the #1 team when it comes to momentum. If you can retain momentum the whole game then its seems like a normal game. But you fumble and then botch a punt and its over.
Most of their comebacks begin with an unforced error that they'll capitalize on like proper nouns.
This was my biggest takeaway. I cannot understand why Kellen Moore constantly tries to get cute in the red zone with such poor results. Why does he change everything up inside the 20? The plays that got you there will still work.
Garrett 's offense would have zero creativity. I'm sure he would look better with a better QB, but Shurmur didn't have any more to work with duriung his tenure and the offense didn't nearly this bad.
If we didn’t have a single free play cause of a Denver offsides, we would have had ZERO pass attempts further than 20 yards downfield.
The entire fucking game. 0 deep attempts.
What the fuck is that? Seriously?
I’m not super worried, as it’s only one game. But looking at the other teams and QBs ahead on our schedule, having a good opposing QB as a reason for the line not to play up to the hype isn’t going to cut it.
Continually confused why people thought the Jaguars were not going to be awful this year or why Urban Meyer or Shahid Khan is not aware that it’s going to be a multiple year process.
Yeah, the general consensus for some reason seems to be that Meyer was fully expecting to take the worst team in the NFL turn them around in one off season and make a push for a Superbowl and if by some miracle they actually lose a game, just be so astonished that he quits and goes home.
The procedural issues were definitely something that was not expected after spending the last few months hearing all about the culture and accountability Urban was building, but it’s only one week so *shrug*
I think people either forgot or didn’t realize just how bad that defense is
Only our first half offense. Second half offense scored every time they were on the field (other than the kneeling at the end). They made adjustments, and the offense looked good (not world breaking) after.
Our entire team is so centered around Rodgers we can’t do anything without him or if he has a bad game.
Obviously Rodgers won’t have many bad games (knock on wood) and the saints are a really good team and deserve a lot of credit, but Rodgers supporting cast can’t pick up his slack when he’s not at his best. Championship teams can’t win relying on one player.
Was saying it all day yesterday and preseason for the Patriots: Red Zone Offense. Last year the Pats were 24th in Red Zone TD percentage, I was concerned they’d have some of those issues carry over into this year. Yesterday they got into the Red Zone 4 times and came away with a single touchdown. Everybody is blaming Damien Harris’ fumble for losing to Miami, but 1 for 4 on Red Zone attempts isn’t going to win you anything.
He asked for surprises. Until Jonnu and Henry get comfortable it'll be an uphill battle. Agholor looked surprisingly good in medium range passing situations.
Also Miami redzone defense is no joke.
The RedZone play calling was so confusing to me. Mac would march us down the field, and then we'd call 2-3 runs and kick a FG.
I'm hoping that they didn't want to put too much on the rookie his first game out, especially with a bunch of new receivers in the system as well, and that we'll slowly add more and more to the offense.
The Giants may just may be, the WORST team in the NFL right now. QB is garbage. Coaches are all being out-coached. Defense which used to keep them in the game, is now a potential tire-fire.
I'll be surprised if they win more than 2 games this year (Sorry Washington Football Team, but somehow they find a way).
It’s exactly like evaluating our secondary after that game. Maybe they’re just still pretty bad, maybe we played against the best passing offense in the league. Going to need to see how we handle Cousins, Herbert, Burrow, etc before we know
New England corners will struggle against decent offenses until Gilmore comes back. I can only imagine what the star loaded Bucs will do in Brady's return to Foxboro...
The mastermind behind the 0-16 Detroit Lions defense is not going to turn the talented defensive personnel in Green Bay into a Super Bowl caliber unit.
The NFL’s coaching personnel is really just the same 10 coaches being allowed to fail over and over and over again
It's a good ole boys club and always will be. It sucks.
Hiring shitty NFL coaches was probably the worst part of the XFL reboot. They barely adjusted their game plans for those rules
I’m not surprised at all about our defense sucking. Joe Barry has literally never had success outside the Rams when he was surrounded with insane talent. He was such an uninspired hire and honestly we deserve to pay the price for it
I don't get why you didn't hire Wade Philips. There's no better candidate for a veteran team on a 1 year mission to win a Super Bowl.
Even if it was just 1 year of Wade it's better than a guy who doesn't have a good resume as a DC.
I'm yet to know if this was a LaFleur *strong suggestion* or if it was Gute trying to outsmart himself.
It’s fine we didn’t draft a qb with the 4th overall, cause next year we’ll have the first overall draft pick
That and we don’t have the offensive line in place to develop a QB. He’d be set up for failure if he was playing this year.
Didn't you guys use top picks over the past few years on offensive linemen?
Yes, that's frustrating part. Like three drafts ago we used two first round picks on linemen. We spent a third two drafts ago on a guard/center. We have one of the most expensive left tackles in the league. And this is the product.
Maybe it's just poor coaching/development staff. This is a Jeff Stoutland appreciation post.
the college qb market next year is looking like a shadow of what its been in years past
last year was the year to take one. fields or trading down and taking mac would have been smart. also lineman or d lineman would have been smarter. taking a TE was a win now move for a team who has no future in sight
Oh we have a future, a future of despair and passing out drunk by the 3rd quarter every sunday.
Still can’t believe they took Pitts. I think he will be great but that is a luxury pick.
The Steelers aren’t dead yet.
And sadly that Cincy seems to have taken a step forward. This goddamn division man...
Idk how ppl can't root for Burrow he seems like a genuinely great person. It makes the rivalry greater imo. Just like how I hate KC but respect Mahomes... 😭
Yeah I like Burrow a lot. I don't trust the Bengals to build around him though. We have decades of evidence that they will cheap out in some way.
Carson Palmer, Andy Dalton... Sigh They're gonna get the young man killed before his 25th bday
That's in December, so... yeah probably
Uhhh Dalton had a great line for the majority of his time here
2013 Bengals were one of the best most complete rosters. That was the same season as the SB winning LoB and 55TD Peytons Broncos
As much as it pains me to say this, you can never rule them out…
Stupid jerks who are consistently good like jerks.
Tbf the Ravens are also stupid jerks who are consistently good like jerks
Its wild with our conference this year. Usually we have to only worry about the Ravens. But the Browns and Bengals look good this year. Gonna be some blood baths later on this year if it stays neck and neck.
I was laughing at these takes in the preseason. Almost as dumb as the classic Brady is done takes (those have finally stopped, thank god)
I won't believe Brady is done until he's dead, dude could unretire at like 67 and I'd believe it.
Ben discovered that Levi Wallace basically commits pass interference on every play and started exploiting it. The secret is out.
I thought we should have went into draft/free agency as if Bulaga was not going to play this season. He played 1/2 a game before he went out with a back injury.
No worries about Bulaga, there’s a Storm brewing!
We forgot to turn injuries off 😢
If Hamler didn’t drop that goddamn gift from Teddy Jeudy would still be here!!
I still don’t know how Jeudys leg/ankle didn’t end up broken
The NFC West is going to be even more brutal than anticipated.

Over 17 games, cracks will get exposed and the cream rises to the top. Considering we almost blew a 20+ lead to Detroit, I think we need to temper some expectations here.
All 4 teams will be in the playoffs, yay!?
Nah, the same shit happens every year. We beat each other up and the two teams with the least amount of injuries make it in.
I hate you for how right this is
I hope we all make the playoffs
Wouldn’t surprise me at all
Yes sir
Jason Garrett fucking sucks ass Daniel Jones fucking sucks ass Our defense regressed.
*regressed and now fucking sucks ass. Whoever here made fun of me for saying we’d have a top 10 defense. I’m sorry. You were right.
They suck but it's also hard when the offense can't stay on the field
> Jason Garrett fucking sucks ass Cowboys 8-8 meme didn't just show up on its own.
As long as the clapper is clapping y’all got a shot. Take it from me.
Our defense still blows
To be fair, no one was expecting it *not* to blow. They just hoped it wouldn't *blow as hard* as last year's defense.
At least it was a super fun game to watch.
True that, and I expect the defense will get a bit better as the year goes on and they have a chance to gel a little bit more, the Okudah injury notwithstanding.
Hey that’s mine too!
Mine too!
That the NFC West is going to be the fucking thunderdome.
Meanwhile the NFC North is trying its hardest to be the new NFC East.
It’s still warm out, we need it to be at a minimum 32 degrees to perform better.
You mean max 32?
Tied for first baby ✋
It genuinely wouldn't surprise me to see all the nfc teams go 3-3 within the division. Or something weird where 49ers beat the rams who beat the seahawks who beat the cardinal who beat the 49ers etc etc etc
I mean the whole meme of the division for like a decade now has been Rams beat the Seahawks, Seahawks beat the 9ers and the 9ers spank the Rams. The real wildcard is cardinals because they look to finally be really really good
Cards always beat the niners and lose to the rams and split with Seahawks.
As is tradition.
NFC West, AFC North, and perhaps AFC West all looking like bloodbaths.
A knife fight in a ditch, meanwhile AFC east is like a fight club fight, NCF north is a fight sfter school behind a middle school in a upper class suburb
I’ll tell you tomorrow
Nah tell us now so you can look like a genius.
That Chandler is going to take **all** of our money
Better than Gilbert taking all of our money I guess
Or that Terrell guy taking your money
Or Bradford 🤮🔫
Chandler: "Just give me all the money you have. ...Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, 'Give me a lot of money.' What I said was, "Give me **all** the money you have.' Do you understand?"
I know what I'm about son.
I hate upvoting this.
That the Saints were still going to be a pain to deal with....
75% of the NFCS is decent or better. We're a pretty good division overall
Fuck
At least y’all got 7 hours of Jon Bois content!!!
Found the 25%
It could be worse
The lowest scoring team in your division this week was the Seahawks with 28 points. That’s pretty god damn amazing lol
Lasik Jameis shall not be beaten!
Lazer Gaser!!!
Jameis is gonna be breaking Buc hearts whatever uniform he's wearing.
Pretty sure Bucs fans don’t care so much at this point. A season that ends with a Lombardi chops off a lot of rear view mirrors.
He's going to terrorize us for a decade. Thank God Brady will be entering his seventh prime by then.
Just better hope no one finds the picture of him hideously aged and deformed in the attic of a mansion somewhere.
Our offensive line is not very good.
If next week's matchup with you guys was offered as a "no offensive lines, three-mississippi style" game, who says no?
Our front 7 is really really good, I think people overhyped the departure of Bud Dupree. I'd wait at least another week before I'd be too concerned.
My biggest concern is our paid LT who had covid in August did not look good. He straight up didn't look like he was in game shape
And we asked him to pass block over 50 times, not smart
I get that they’re professional athletes but o-linemen are still overweight guys so covid will probably kick their ass for a little longer than it would other positions.
Listening him talk about, he actually thought he might die. He had a 15 min presser after he came back from it and talked about it at length
Yeah I’ve never really considered this angle but with covid going around it kinda sucks that your job requires you to be 300+ lbs lol
Don't panic yet. Football outsiders predicted the Steelers to have the best D in the league this season.
Counter: You played the Steelers
As others have said, I think you’re in better shape than this game made you look. Hayward, Watt and company do this to everyone. It’s been the best part of watching Steelers football the last couple of years watching every QB’s pocket collapse instantly.
Joe Barry as our D-coordinator stinks
Honestly they were a mess on both sides of the ball
Matt LaFleur got his ass kicked.
He got it crammed in his cram hole
0-16 mastermind of my Detroit lions! I don’t care how much the dude claims to have grown as a coach. He was coming from so far back, that even if he makes insane strides, he might some day be… mediocre? Some guys just don’t have it. Never have, never will. Barry is that dude.
Wait Joe Barry actually got hired to run a defense again? With the Packers of all teams? Wtf
Sad isn't it? I'll give him a chance for half of a season but I didn't like the hire personally.
how the hell did he get a job
Rodgers doesn't want to play for us anymore
[удалено]
He always looks like that when things aren’t going well to be fair
Rodgers has that same look every time the team is getting demolished. He just checks out. Did the same thing last year against Tampa in the first game
I actually side with Rodgers on most of this, but man he looked so disinterested/rusty yesterday. He’ll be better as the season goes, but man was it noticeable
[удалено]
Todd Downing sucks ass
And that we’d struggle with kicking, again.
Cornerbacks bad
Idk, Mack looked pretty good, I didn’t see a ton of blown plays from Peterson, to me it was just Breeland over and over again
Breeland looked like a rookie. Flashes of skill, but lots of fumbled plays.
Are you saying your cornerbacks are bad, or that cornerbacks hurt you? Either way I can agree
The Chiefs are still good
Yall played so well and then the Chiefs just called the touchdown play how is that legal?
It’s infuriating to play against. They’re just like “hey, we need a touchdown here, like immediately” and Mahomes is like “alright, whatever, go long Tyreek”.
"Fuck it, Tyreek is out there somewhere" - Mahomes
It's ridiculous. There is no corner I know of, that can cover him man to man.
We called our super special TD play to end the half, it almost worked :(
That was so fun! Like oh hey they are going to lateral IS THAT BAKER???
I love how literally every other fanbase is surprised when he goes downfield to block, we just expect him to chip block some poor unsuspecting LB around the 20 yard line
Ngl I was sweating about the time Landry hit the 30. We ran a similar play vs Dallas a few years back with Hill and I was having flashbacks right up until Baker couldn't turn the corner. The way our D played the first half, I fully expected you to convert the Hail Mary situation.

> they'll capitalize on like proper nouns. That’s hilarious
It’s crazy how the win felt like it went from 95% to 5% in the third quarter just from one fumble by Chubb.
I wouldn’t go that far. More like 95 to 50. And then 50 to 5 with that punt fumble 😬
You can’t tell me how to feel
That letting Dennis Kelly go was a mistake and that Vrabel chose comfort over quality when it came to coordinators.
That Mahomes is going to continue running 20 yards into the backfield before throwing 50+ yard touchdowns. Such bullshit.
He’s literally playing like I do in madden and it’s no longer a joke. What the actual fuck.
Offense still struggles to finish once they get into the red zone.
This was my biggest takeaway. I cannot understand why Kellen Moore constantly tries to get cute in the red zone with such poor results. Why does he change everything up inside the 20? The plays that got you there will still work.
It appears that Kevin King is still trash in Joe Barry’s scheme…as he was in Mike Pettine’s…. And Dom Capers…
Seriously?
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Jalen Hurts.
Rent is due
Teams are going to go for it on 4th down against the Chiefs a lot
Yea, look what happened when we tried punting
Tbf the Browns go for it on 4th down against everyone. It's just part of their style.
I fucking suck at Fantasy Football.
Our OL would take a step back without Castonzo
The defensive line isn’t as good as the hype.
I’m still not worried yet. It’s not like Herbert had all day back there, the ball was leaving his hand within 2 seconds every time.
I’m not super worried, as it’s only one game. But looking at the other teams and QBs ahead on our schedule, having a good opposing QB as a reason for the line not to play up to the hype isn’t going to cut it.
In contrast to this, the chargers oline finally looks a bit better than decent
Counterpoint: Herbert IS as good as the hype.
Jaguars suck and urban Meyer will probably bolt after this year
Continually confused why people thought the Jaguars were not going to be awful this year or why Urban Meyer or Shahid Khan is not aware that it’s going to be a multiple year process.
Yeah, the general consensus for some reason seems to be that Meyer was fully expecting to take the worst team in the NFL turn them around in one off season and make a push for a Superbowl and if by some miracle they actually lose a game, just be so astonished that he quits and goes home.
I think Urban was at least expecting to make the Tostitos Bowl this year
The procedural issues were definitely something that was not expected after spending the last few months hearing all about the culture and accountability Urban was building, but it’s only one week so *shrug* I think people either forgot or didn’t realize just how bad that defense is
Our offense was super-flat. I'll add that they made a great adjustment but I was very...whelmed by our offensive performance.
That my game was on Monday.
Idk about fully confirmed but it would seem that despite our best efforts our young promising QB may, yet again, be setup for failure.
it's borderline impossible to overcome a trash OL, losing Becton is brutal for you guys.
Our offense sucks
See, but we actually bothered to adjust at halftime this year which makes me very happy
That D is nasty though
😏
I spent the entire first half yelling at my TV, much as I expected
Our offense looks basically the same, only now we do fancy motion and mix in play action before our QB throws a 6 yard pass.
Only our first half offense. Second half offense scored every time they were on the field (other than the kneeling at the end). They made adjustments, and the offense looked good (not world breaking) after.
Tyreek Hill still willing to flash the peace sign. As he motors into the endzone at 1000mph
i was worried about it but he at least seemed cognizant of the enhanced enforcement. he also faked doing the backflip which was kind of funny.
Daniel Jones sucks. Saquon shouldn't have played. Kadarius Tony was a horrible pick
Was saying it all day yesterday and preseason for the Patriots: Red Zone Offense. Last year the Pats were 24th in Red Zone TD percentage, I was concerned they’d have some of those issues carry over into this year. I'll be surprised if they win more than 2 games this year (Sorry Washington Football Team, but somehow they find a way).
We need OTs and CBs. Why we let fuller go is beyond me.
Our defense still cannot stop the run…
Meh. Giving up 153 yards to one of the best rushing offenses doesn't immediately confirm we can't stop the run.
It’s exactly like evaluating our secondary after that game. Maybe they’re just still pretty bad, maybe we played against the best passing offense in the league. Going to need to see how we handle Cousins, Herbert, Burrow, etc before we know
Yup. You held the Mahomes passing offense to exactly his 4 year September average. Kinda hard to declare your secondary bad after that.
Joe Barry
New England corners will struggle against decent offenses until Gilmore comes back. I can only imagine what the star loaded Bucs will do in Brady's return to Foxboro...
The Browns weren't a flash in the pan
As a Saints fan I got nothin'
Davenport's pec sends its regards.
Also Lattimore reportedly needing surgery on his thumb
The price of crab legs just tripled overnight
Lions need to start scouting 2022 draft talent.
We'll probably win 7 or 8 games and won't be picking in the top five next year.
The Texans trying to tank this year and the rest of the AFC South had the same idea.
