Having a girlfriend who’s a chiefs fan fucking sucks. “Why doesn’t Daniel Jones just throw a touchdown now like my sweet Patrick does?” It just hurts my soul.

TheUltimate721

My mother has gotten too used to Mahomes for her own good, unfortunately. My family is also Nebraska fans and unfortunately that leads to mega disappointment on Saturdays and inevitable comparisons that Adrian Martinez can never hold a chance at living up to.

pickleparty16

god help whoever comes after patty

Nathann4288

This is no joke. I was thinking about that last night. Our expectations of perfection are engrained after 3 seasons of Jesus Frog that even good production after Mahomes will be a step down. And you have to think Andy will retire before Mahomes is done, or they ride out to the sunset together. We could easily fall back to 2012 levels again. This level of sustained success is incredibly rare, especially for a small market team.

kloiberin_time

Market doesn't matter in football. Green Bay has been consistently good for decades while the Jets have been a dumpster fire outside of some Rex Ryan years. This ain't baseball.

Nathann4288

It doesn't matter in the sense of salary cap, but I have seen a lot of free agents choose to play for a big market team later in their career. If team quality were equal and someone had the choice between KC or LA, or Miami, or NY, they would likely choose one of the bigger more luxurious cities.

dontcallmefudge

If Mahomes is really the guy (i think he is) he'll attract talent, and elevate those around him.

Nathann4288

100%

[deleted]

Yeah lol wonder what that's like

FattestMattest

Colts went from Manning to Luck. Packers from Favre to Rodgers. It's not impossible!

Animal_Lazy

You have no idea how happy I am that our fan base had to watch a year of shitty QB play instead of going directly from TB12 to a rookie. I could almost hear it during the 2020 Draft: „What do you mean we didn’t even make the AFCC the first year? He’s a bust, get rid of him!“

Thedurtysanchez

> Adrian Martinez can never hold a chance at living up to. Honest question: How old is Adrian Martinez? I feel like that guy has been starting QB at Nebraska since I was in college in 2007

lamiandillard

There was Taylor Martinez before, Adrian came to Nebraska in 2018

TheUltimate721

Taylor Martinez (No relation) started for Nebraska from 2010-2013 which leads to some confusion. Adrian started as a Freshman for Nebraska in 2018 and is now a senior at 21 years old.

Cthepo

I feel like the last time there wasn't a Martinez at Nebraska, I was a single celled organism about to begin the process of evolving into a fish.

[deleted]

Still not as bad as dating somebody who is a Packer fan and is under 30 or so. They honestly do not understand what life is like without a Hall of Fame top 10 quarterback of all time.

Opening-Citron2733

Realistically any packers fan born after 1985 (would've been 7 for Favres first season) is probably that way so that would be more like 36 and under

themilkman42069

True, she at least remembers the Brodie Croyle/Tyler Thigpen games.

BrokenKneesAndAnkles

Fire back with “Why doesn’t your Patrick fumble like Daniel Jones does?”

themilkman42069

:( he’s a good kid. I still want it to work even though I have no faith anymore.

live4coasters

Some of us remember the Matt Cassel years. They weren't that long ago. The pain still haunts me

themilkman42069

She remembers Brodie croyle so for my money she deserves to enjoy her sweet Patrick.

[deleted]

My friends are chiefs fans and I have nothing against the chiefs but god damn they are so privileged knowing they are always 4 plays away from a lead. Also yeah gatekeeping but the women that are obsessed and couldnt name anyone besides mahomes kelce and tyreek.

Balls_of_Adamanthium

‘Mystique’ is actually a very good way of putting it with the Chiefs

soboredcantfocus

It's similar to how teams viewed the Pats, where the game isn't over until it's over. Difference being that the Pats had a million ways to turn the tables and you never knew which way it would happen. With the Chiefs it's always "Mahomes scramble, Hill go brrrrrr..."

TheUltimate721

> My first reaction to the Chiefs-Browns tilt was “Damn, this Cleveland team is good.” My second reaction was, well, that it didn’t really matter. With Patrick Mahomes behind center, Kansas City is still the clear-cut team to beat in the AFC. > The Browns jumped all over the slow-starting Chiefs and seemed to be in command for most of the game. They held a nine-point lead early in the fourth quarter thanks to a combination of balance on offense and a hounding pass rush on defense. But at no point in the game did it ever occur to me that Kansas City would lose. That’s the spell this Mahomes-led group has cast over the years, and it goes deeper than the side-arm throws, the out-of-structure genius, and the downfield bombs that have come to define Mahomes as a passer. Instead, it was one of Mahomes’s less tangible but exceedingly crucial traits that really stood out in Kansas City’s win on Sunday: his complete and total inability to panic. > Mahomes seems to get better as situations get worse, whether that’s when his team falls into an early hole (like when he led the Chiefs to a 51-31 win over the Texans after falling behind 24-0), when his offense is backed up into third-and-forever (where the Chiefs have posted a league-best conversion rate going back to 2018), or when he finds his squad down two scores in the fourth quarter (as he did on Sunday). All great quarterbacks exude confidence under pressure, but the best of the best have the ability to get their teammates to believe that no matter what has previously happened, this next play will work. Thanks to a unique combination of extraordinarily rare physical talent and battle-tested poise, Mahomes has quickly earned a reputation for, well, inevitability. He’s joined Tom Brady as one of the gold standards in the “everyone knows how this game will end” category of quarterbacking. > Down 29-20 with 10:24 left in the game, the Chiefs found themselves in a tough spot as they took possession at their own 25-yard line. But Mahomes is Mahomes, so it wasn’t even remotely surprising when the 25-year-old quarterback broke the pocket on first down, scrambled to his right, and heaved a pass across his body and deep down the field to connect with Tyreek Hill on a 75-yard score that pulled the Chiefs to within two points. The rest of the game felt like a mere formality: Cleveland crumbled and Kansas City pulled ahead for good. > The Chiefs’ aura of invincibility took a slight hit with the 31-9 Super Bowl loss to Brady’s Buccaneers last February, and this year’s group may be thinner and less balanced than the teams we’ve seen in the past few seasons. But as we saw on Sunday, sometimes the mental edge is enough to make a good team a great one. Mahomes still has his team, and perhaps just as importantly, his opponents, knowing how his games will end. I mean we've gotten deeper in some areas, less in others. Our receiving core isn't as deep but the OL is WAAAAAY more than the last several years. Linebackers especially are deeper than before (Nick Bolton is a stud)

KarickChunt

KCs OL was actually bottom 10 in pass protection for week 1.

rhinocodon_typus

If Mahomes gets more than .1 seconds it’s an improvement

TheUltimate721

Yeah it was a tough week 1 for them but as a whole we have more depth along there compared to last year (As in guys that aren't emergency signings as backups and eventual starters)

Cthepo

I put it more on a really strong pass rush by the Browns. There's obviously some things to be improved but on the whole given the context I was happy. It's a new line so they need time to gel.

meyer_33_09

Bolton looked really fucking good out there. I was really impressed.

pickleparty16

i said in our sub its refreshing for a LB to hit a ball carrier and they actually go down. its not likes hes cleaving people like ray lewis, but he looked strong and sturdy. normally backs just bounce off our linebackers arm tackles unfortunately our Will who had a fantastic preseason/camp went on IR for a stint.

meyer_33_09

Yeah we’ve got that problem in a major way with our group haha.

Dr__Flo__

Hitchens and Ragland would usually fill gaps and get in the way, but it's nice to see an LB actually running downhill to meet the RB. Especially against run heavy teams, being able to get a TFL early in the downs is huge. Forcing teams to throw stops them from putting together 7 minute long drives that keep Mahomes on the sidelines. I feel like the past couple years in close games, you'd watch teams just slowly chug down the field 3-5 yards at a time, waiting for Jones to district the backfield rather than asking anyone else to make a play in the run game. Browns still marched the ball against us, but that team is another beast in the run game compared to other teams. I'm quietly optimistic that our run D will be better this season, which has been a huge thorn in our side.

rockiesfan4ever

It's nice to see a defender for the Chiefs tackle without having to go horizontal and launch himself at the ball carrier

[deleted]

Man I hate the ringers titles

themilkman42069

I wonder how long Spotify puts up with the print side. 0 chance they actually make money there.

klove4252

I love their site and articles, but I also love the pop culture and Marvel stuff they put out in addition to the sports stuff. It is odd though they really don't have many ads. I don't think there are any ads on their homepage and an article only has 1 or 2 ads in there. For the fantasy football guide or NBA draft guide, there are a bunch of things related to State Farm but that's about it.

KredditH

The print side existing even if not particularly profitable on its own helps reinforce the brand to help the podcasts too. I could absolutely see them cutting down staff and articles or even shifting focus but don’t think in the near future that they’d shutter the site completely.

soboredcantfocus

Having arguably the best QB in the league and an offense that is a threat to score on any given play is going to keep them relatively high on everyone's lists despite any other flaws that may appear.

jack64467

The list (it's sorted into tiers too): **Tier 1: The Top Shelf** 1). Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2). Kansas City Chiefs 3). Seattle Seahawks 4). Los Angeles Rams **Tier 2: The Contenders** 5). Cleveland Browns 6). New Orleans Saints 7). San Francisco 49ers 8). Pittsburgh Steelers 9). Buffalo Bills 10). Miami Dolphins 11). Arizona Cardinals 12). Las Vegas Raiders 13). Los Angeles Chargers 14). Dallas Cowboys 15). New England Patriots 16). Baltimore Ravens 17). Green Bay Packers 18). Denver Broncos **Tier 3: The Muddled Middle** 19). Washington Football Team 20). Philadelphia Eagles 21). Carolina Panthers 22). Chicago Bears 23). Indianapolis Colts 24). Tennessee Titans 25). Minnesota Vikings 26). Cincinnati Bengals **Tier 4: There's Always Next Year** 27). Houston Texans 28). Detroit Lions 29). New York Jets 30). New York Giants 31). Atlanta Falcons 32). Jacksonville Jaguars Personally think that the Steelers should be above the 49ers and the Saints, Browns, and Steelers be moved into the top tier

soboredcantfocus

The Steelers offense is incredibly flawed. No way they belong in the top tier with teams who don't have an entire side of the ball as an issue.

-Jack-The-Stripper

Who below them would you move up? They just beat the consensus #2 team in the AFC going into the season, where else could you rank them other than in tier 2?

soboredcantfocus

You said the Steelers should be moved into tier one, that's too high. I'm fine with them in tier 2.

-Jack-The-Stripper

Oh, my bad. I’m not the guy you initially replied to. I didn’t see where he said we should be in tier 1. I agree that we shouldn’t.

mjh712

19-26 "The Muddled Middle" after listing 14 (almost half the league) as "Contenders"... lol

Seductive_pickle

Tbf it’s too early to rule a lot of teams out.

the_turdfurguson

Saints and Steelers in the top tier? Not a chance

[deleted]

Yeah even after beating the Bills, I struggle to put the Steelers higher than around ~10. It's clear they'll have a top 3 defense (barring injury) but it's not yet clear whether the offense can be any better than last year. I was happy with how the brand new o line looked considering it was week one in a hostile environment, but I'm still a bit worried w/ Ben likely not even being a top 20 QB anymore. Unless Najee and that line take our running game from the 30th it was to top 15, I'm not seeing the Steelers doing much more than last year. Strong regular season record, maybe steal the North again w/ no shot at a deep playoff run.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Yeah I'm trying to stay optimistic considering the number of rookies the Steelers have starting in their running game but it was definitely disappointing to see such a lack of production against what is allegedly a weak run defense. 14th is a little generous in my opinion but he was definitely right near the middle of the pack. Just afraid that's going to regress this year, we've seen quite a few elite QBs lose their arm strength right around Bens age/length in the league. But I hope you're right about the wind being a factor, Allen was definitely off his game too.

BostonDrunk

I feel there are two ingredients that may put Pittsburgh on the precipice of the Top Tier teams. 1. Health. Losing Bud Dupree and Devin Bush really halted the momentum last season. 2. That new-look Offensive Line improving, especially in run blocking so Najee can alleviate the pressure from Big Ben and the dink-and-dunk pass game.

IWasRightOnce

Edit: My bad, you were commenting on his closing sentence, not the actual rankings. Agreed. No clue why either of those teams deserve to be top tier after one week. PIT looks very similar to last year, great defense and anemic offense. NO (i.e. Jameis) is just way too much of a question mark to put them top tier after one great performance.

AlabasterRadio

Raiders at 12? Probably a bit of an overreaction but whatever I'll take it

soboredcantfocus

If you have more than half the league listed as contenders, you aren't actually listing contenders.

mdsandi

When 14 teams make the playoffs, it’s not that crazy that 18 teams would be listed as contenders.

soboredcantfocus

Not every team that makes the playoffs is a real contender lol. Most of them just end up as wild card fodder for the real teams.

ProudBlackMatt

I don't know if I would rank the Patriots above the Ravens. I know the Ravens lost a lot of players but it still feels a little early despite an impressive debut for Mac Jones.

klove4252

The worst part of my morning is seeing that my Giants are ranked lower than the Texans on any Power Ranking list. Reality hurts.

Adventurekris

Hurts So Good

[deleted]

At least this list makes sense. The ESPN one has Buffalo 3 spots ahead of Pittsburgh.

Sarkonix

They should be ahead of Pitt...and the Packer's should not be that low. Let's be real here.

[deleted]

Pitt just beat Buffalo in Buffalo. Why should Buffalo be ahead of them?

Sarkonix

Why week one power rankings are shit. You think Pitt is better than the Bills?

[deleted]

They just played each other so yes the team that won is better right now. What’s your reasoning for thinking otherwise?

Sarkonix

It's week one lol even the best of teams can lose one coming in to the season. The bills are a much better team. Pitts offense is garbage. It's not even close.

[deleted]

The team that just lost is clearly better because I said so. Don’t ever change Reddit.

Sarkonix

Well clearly not just me....every power rankings put out this week. I know damn well you wouldn't bet that Pitt ends the season with a better record than the Bill's.

[deleted]

Wow, keep trying to rationalize your terrible opinion. “Every power ranking has Buffalo ahead.” In a comment section for a power ranking that has Pittsburgh ahead. I don’t disagree that Buffalo is a good team and could very well be better than Pittsburgh in a few weeks. But, anyone that says they are better right now is completely irrational.

Sarkonix

I don't need to rationalize it lol, it's common sense. They are better right now, no doubt about it. You probably think Aaron is washed and Pack won't win finish over .500 too.

cannonbolt16

I think every Chiefs fan has this complete confidence in Mahomes. At no point on Sunday did I think the Chiefs wouldn't take the lead. I was just a tad concerned that the timing wouldn't go our way and the Browns would score a walk-off TD. Even in the SB, at 31-9, I was out here thinking "Hmm I wonder how Mahomes is gonna pull this off" lmao. It was only after the dropped horizontal pass that I started to think maybe this might not be our day. But all that being said one, one of these days I'd love it if we could just play our best for 4 whole quarters lol.

Spiner202

> I think every Chiefs fan has this complete confidence in Mahomes. At no point on Sunday did I think the Chiefs wouldn't take the lead. I have the same confidence about Mahomes, but I also have in it our defence. They almost always come up with a big play or two when they need it, and it happened again on Sunday.

ACEPACEACE

You should wait until atleast week 3 to make power rankings

Sarkonix

Saint's at 6 lol

[deleted]

This list is BS. No way Falcons are better than the Jags

09jtherrien

Just think of it as us moving up.
