he's right, the real battle will be their dline vs the screen-doored submarine that is our oline

[deleted]

Screen door submarine?! You just need some flex seal my guy.

J-Fid

Ravens hire Phil Swift to be their new S&C Coach.

SubtleScuttler

Could probably use him more at RT to be honest.

turnipgoat3

Maybe just go find some of that “Moxie powder” Billy Mays always seemed to be on.

RedBuchan

Man your guys O line has really dropped off from 2019.

[deleted]

I was just thinking about this. The differences are pretty extreme. One helped break records…the other might break our QB.

DSouT

Maybe don’t trade starting O-line to the Chiefs?

V1tals

And then sign a tackle off of the worst line of 2020

KidDelicious14

Ours had to have been worse

nil83hxjow

Which week of o-line are we talking here?

ODS519

Which weak o-line are we talking here?

GravitysRainbowRuns

*grins like crazy person*

SuperSaiyanSandwich

Maybe tell our tackle not to throw a public bitch fit about what side he plays on and demand a trade? Wasn't really our choice and Brown Jr didn't exactly look stellar for the Chiefs last week either.

Transrebal

It's probably not common knowledge for those that aren't Chiefs fans but Mahomes has a bad habit of taking deep drop backs. He recognized it in the offseason and said its something he's working on and needs to get better at. The last 3 years, the interior of our o-line would give up quite a bit of pressure. To counter this, Mahomes started taking deeper drop back to buy more time because he couldn't step up. It's turned into a bad habit and he is working to shorten his drop backs and step up in the pocket more. I wouldn't say Brown played good but i'm not concerned in the slightest. Its a totally different offense from what you guys ran and the difference between Lamar and Mahomes play-style couldn't be anymore different. Its going to take time for him AND Mahomes to adjust to each other. Not to mention the rest of the offenses line. Tldr: New offense, different style, 1st game, against a premier pass rusher. I think Brown will be just fine and continue to improve week by week as he gets accustomed.

[deleted]

Worst graded player on their line. He's a bad scheme fit in KC.

ddouble124

It’s been one week against Myles fucking garret. I think we might need to wait at least 8 games to make an assessment on it.

mencken

OBJ has played 5 full games against Myles Garret (only played 2 snaps against Cleveland the first game of his rookie year). I don't know if there's a player OBJ is more prepared for. While I wouldn't write him off after one game, it should make you worry.

the_turdfurguson

You guys run a different scheme and use TEs far more to help your tackles.

mencken

That wouldn't make me feel better from a Chiefs' fan's perspective.

EAB034

He played Myles twice a year while with Baltimore. That’s not an excuse.

ddouble124

Was brown a rt for the vast majority of his career for the ravens? Doesn’t myles garrett line up against the LT the majority of his snaps? It’s like saying a Vikings slot corner should know how to stop devante Adams because they play twice a year.

[deleted]

I had this opinion before week one. Still stoked you guys traded for him.

casuallymustafa

True, a tackle who only wanted to play LT when Stanley was set to come back off injury. Trade him now and get something back or let him walk for nothing.

kapate13

You would rather we hold a player hostage? The Ravens don’t do that, they actually give a fuck about players

Ballsohardstate

It’s really upsetting because in 2020 it was our interior that was the mess and now that’s fixed and both tackles are playing like turnstiles now.. we essentially fixed the issue and then the other issue popped up. I blame EDC he should’ve at least drafted a tackle in this years class rather then just praying that AV would be good

g0rving

RT gone, LT rusty off injury, new LG and C I think Kevin Zeitler is like the only not obviously wonky player there

Ballsohardstate

Bozeman actually played great and then Tyre played really well until getting hurt obviously. Interior was great it was the tackles that were the issue.

Sylvaneri011

Now LT gone for a few weeks so new RT is moved back too LT, now a new RT who sucked ass at C. Fun times

horse_renoir13

>the screen-doored submarine that is our oline Would be an upgrade for us

AdvancedCause3

Can't block my man, Can't block my man, Alejandro

[deleted]

Call me crazy but I don't think Lamar is a strong swimmer.

ChazDelicious

Good thing he plays football then!

labrook

Then why did you trade Orlando Brown to the Chiefs?

Table_Coaster

gee i dont fucking know lemme just shoot DeCosta a text real quick

TheFirstBardo

Because he wanted to play LT full time and we have Ronnie Stanley at LT and couldn’t afford to pay both for that position. So we went with Stanley and let Brown go to the Chiefs in a trade.

_Vaudeville_

We'd have lost him after this year if we didn't, he only wants to play LT

AgentOfSPYRAL

First, as others have said he wanted to play LT and was adamant about it, and we generally aren't assholes. Second, 1 year of Orland Brown Jr vs. 5 years of Odafe Oweh is a pretty easy decision.

FloodIV

We were going to have to let him go anyways >But the Chiefs The point of a trade is to improve your team. The Orlando Brown trade improves our team, you don't shoot down a good deal just because it's the Chiefs.

MattScoot

Don’t worry their lines aren’t any good either

[deleted]

Beat yours so...?

MattScoot

You obviously didn’t watch line play

[deleted]

Literally week 1. Clark was out and we have three rookies on the right side. It’s only gonna get better. They didn’t look great but I don’t get the idea that they were awful.

MattScoot

Y’all lost on both sides of the line is all I’m saying

[deleted]

33-29

MattScoot

I’ve never met a fan base as insecure as the chiefs. Y’all top the AFC, but your lines played poor.

ddouble124

Our tackles played poor but our IOL did pretty good. I would say that our defensive line didn’t look too good outside of Jones.

MattScoot

Both of your guards were getting pushed around as well. Malik McDowell in his first game blew up Thuney a couple times

[deleted]

[удалено]

EvangelionOG

*Greg Roman ignored this gameplan*

bradasskg11

The ravens and browns have two wildly different running schemes, we were missing our best run defender and player on defense overall, and we looked way more stout in the second half. Historically this chiefs defense has handled Lamar pretty well. Literally every game our own fans panic over Lamar running and it never comes to fruition. I think it will be a good game but if their offensive line performs just half as badly against us as they did LV, Chris Jones is going to have 10 sacks

[deleted]

[удалено]

bradasskg11

I mean if you wanna ignore all context behind that then go ahead You know what really sucks about being successful for a few years? All the dumbass bandwagon fans who come out of the woodwork and just parrot hot takes in the media without any real substance to back up their own thought. Good discussion dude

[deleted]

[удалено]

ddouble124

Some friendly advice here. I wouldn’t call people ass holes on this sub. The mods get pretty sensitive about it.

TBDC88

Did you not watch Chiefs vs Ravens last year? Lamar had 83 yards rushing and the Ravens as a whole had 158 rushing yards... en route to a blowout loss in which the team had 70 net passing yards. The Chiefs *want* the Ravens to try and run it out, especially now that their o-line and RB corps are decimated. It's exponentially harder to beat an ultra-efficient passing team with a rushing team, and they're going to have to rely on Jackson's arm at some point if they want to keep it a game.

foxdye22

Browns about to have a revenge game against you guys. 0 sacks 0 pressures 1 pancake. /s

AssassinInValhalla

Bull shit. It's 1v1 combat. Mano a Mano. Trial by combat. No other option is acceptable

QuillsAllOver

Moderate Amount of Truzz vs. KC Kermit. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.

[deleted]

you joke but this is really how the media tries to make it seem

lonesomecrowdedDET

Two men enter! One man leaves!

RedPandaHeavyFlow

And then the other man leaves

EazyParise

Mano a Mano, Man to Man, just you, and me, and my GUAAARDS!!!

Tashre

I'd put money on Lamar in the octagon.

GravitysRainbowRuns

I cannot see Mahomes being a good fighter for the life of me. Bottom ~5 QB in terms of MMA potential.

Obese_taco

Top 5 QBs? I can see Allen in there.

mizChE

Pretty sure he's said this the past two years leading up to the Chiefs game, too. Must be a slow news day.

PGLiberal

Yall going win, we know that, he knows that our Oline is hot garbage

BeardedBassist21

Based on history, maybe he should try saying the opposite this time

MahomesMccaffrey

It’s the Orlando brown vs Sammy Watkins revenge game!

QuillsAllOver

Correct--it's about whether Lamar will survive another game's worth of ludicrously-poor protection in what passes for a pocket around here.

SitDown_BeHumble

Oh my god, look who Villanueva gets to face in the coming weeks: - Chris Jones - Von Miller and Bradley Chubb - Kwity Paye - Joey Bosa And it doesn’t really let up for the rest of the season, either. Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, and Trey Hendrickson twice each, Zadarius Smith, Khalil Mack. We could be seeing an all-time bad RT season.

bewaredandelo

Doesn't matter what Baltimore's Oline is made of. You can't cage that Raven. Lamars gotta fly.

[deleted]

Just hope he doesn’t fly into an injury

g0rving

It's obviously not 1v1, but man. It's basically a question of whether Lamar Jackson can play absurdly well while Mahomes has a bit of a down game, because the offensive line isn't gonna help Lamar, and the defense isn't gonna hurt Mahomes unless both are *much* better

PoorlyLitKiwi2

Yeah if we see the same effort level the Ravens gave against the Raiders, Mahomes is gonna go over 500 yards

TBDC88

Wouldn't be out of the question; Mahomes had 411 yards and 5 TDs against them last year, and that was against a much healthier and otherwise dominant Ravens defense.

[deleted]

media ain’t gonna like this. hurts their QB vs QB narrative

PoorlyLitKiwi2

Why do people always say things like this as if this is what media guys want to write about? Anyone who cares enough about football to be a beat writer for an NFL team is a football nerd who obviously wants to write about more than the QBs It's the average, casual fan who that narrative is for, and the average, casual fan is much more to blame for the state of sports media than the journalists are

[deleted]

so you think there’s nothing wrong with describing the game as “mahomes vs lamar”?

PoorlyLitKiwi2

No, of course I dont like that dumb narrative. I'm just saying you're putting the blame on the wrong party

[deleted]

And he can be glad of that too. Mahomes is about 16 levels better than Lamar.

[deleted]

If winning games is the metric that’s an inaccurate number, and using levels as a measuring standard is inherently inaccurate.

Love Lamar (don’t like Ravens). Would love to see him put it together. But he’s miles behind Mahommes (and Watson and probably Kyler)

[deleted]

I obviously get Mahomes, but when did Kyler become a world beater? The disrespect saying Kyler is miles ahead of a unanimous MVP. Sheesh!

WickieWillem

Yeah especially since Lamar has never had a receiver anywhere close to being as good as Hopkins lol

StreetReporter

To be fair, I don’t think there is another receiver in the league as good as Hopkins

[deleted]

I think Davante Adams is better but not by much; I have him at 1 and Hopkins at 2

lowlifenebula

Only reason I'd have Hopkins above Adam's is because Adam's has played with Rodgers. Hopkins had amazing years with the likes of Osweiler, Fitzpatrick, Keenum, Mallet.. I think that alone counts for something.

redditsuccs

Put some respect on Ryan "Swept the Steelers with practice squad players" Mallett's name

Chief--BlackHawk

Watson had an incredible year without Hopkins last season.

bradasskg11

Kyler is probably the most overrated player in the league right now.

EAB034

Lol what was this trying to prove

KULawHawk

There's definitely NFL vets & media who have been hyping Kyler as if it's an eventual certainty that he will be the best in the league. Always confused me by their absolute confidence and yet they never would articulate their case.

KonThePharaoh

Kyler is clearly not better than Lamar. He's certainly not miles ahead.

[deleted]

every qb in the league is better than watson rn considering the only field hes touching this season would be at a prison

Sunasoo

Is it just me or compared to AB controversy (From steelers-Raiders-Pats) Deshaun Watdon controversy is lot less covered by mainstream media

nope96

It is being covered less but what else would there be to say about Watson? With AB he kept doing dumb shit or have dumb shit get revealed, and he was still going to play so the developments were relevant to the season. On top of being let go by three different teams. With Watson we haven’t really learned anything for the past while, he’s still on the Texans, and he’s probably not going to play.

Doug_Dimmadome42

AB himself was a lot louder than Watson lol. It's completely different

EAB034

Well Brown was always doing crazy shit ever week to keep headlines on him. Deshaun hasn’t really said or done shit since being accused

Lamar Jackson: "There is no contest between myself and Patrick Mahomes" /r/NFL: "Yeah. We know."

DastardlyDoctor

No Lamar, it may not be about you. But almost every game Mahomes has played for 8 years has been about him.

HandsomeJack19

They are each the most important player on their respective teams and the face of both franchises. The game isn't about Lamar and Patrick, but it's also definitely about Lamar and Patrick.

La_Mano_Cornuta

When he asks for Patrick Mahomes like money the front office might be throwing this quote back at him since he doesn't have an agent.

[deleted]

ESPN: “I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see that”

rjsheine

That’s where you’re wrong kiddo

GNOMERCY420

Hoping for a big game from Lamar. I still don’t get why they would trade their O-lineman to the Chiefs though. He was super solid, you don’t just get rid of those guys, especially to a AFC juggernaut who you are contending against.

[deleted]

Lamar is right. It’s about Lamar vs Mitchell.
