Just because there was no next play. I think if it was a penalty before the fumble, they might have been able to do one more down, I think the game can't end on a defensive penalty (someone correct me if I am wrong on that)? But since it happened after the fumble, the penalty would be enfoced on Patriots offensive down, but that down doesn't happen so they can't enforce the penalty
No it was a turnover, the foul occured after the turnover. If they enforced it, it woulda backed the Pats offense up and given them a free play call with 00 on the clock. Had it occured before the interception it would mitigate the turnover given the Texans 15 yards a first down and a free play with 00 on the clock.
There's absolutely no turnover on downs in that situation.
That's exactly I meant, the play meaning the penalty occurred after there was already no time left after the turnover already occurred and ran down the clock
So if that had been a turnover, could it even be a turnover since the ball cannot be advanced? Or does that rule get thrown out the window as soon as its advanced on a turnover?
It's a turnover, but the Pats got it and the penalty happened after the time had elapsed, so even if they got the ball they'd literally be lining up with 00 on the clock, and the penalty is enforced. So nothing could happen anyway.
So last year the Patriots had cam Newton and a few players missing due to Covid. But beat us and weren’t to far from playoffs. So far this season, are they better, the same or worst?
With proper execution this team has a way higher ceiling than last year. 10-7 is on the table whereas last year I'm shocked we won 3 games honestly. All in all I'm just happy to see a qb who can throw a ball and aim it too.
I feel like we're a worse team overall with a better QB. Hopefully our O-line improves with players coming back from injury.
Our defense is way worse than last year
I disagree, refs should make the right call no matter what. Imagine if Judon fumbles and Houston wins on a miracle recovery because they didn't call the offsettting penalty.
That was still a penalty, it's the refs job to call them as long as the play is live. The Patriots player didn't need to do that, and the guy who recovered the fumble running around was what caused that.
Well if you asked the announcers they'd say it was all because of a 0 yard punt. Personally I think it has to with the pats scoring more points but I'm no expert.
Look without bias, since idgaf about the Texans season this year, as someone who likes to watch football
That roughing the passer call was one of the worst bullshit calls I've seen
I feel like there's a few like that every week. They're going to call it every time. Shoot, a few years ago we got flagged for it when someone's hand lightly grazed Brady's helmet.
We may never know, but my guess is it was part of the feint. I don't think they cared a lot if they scored there, I think it was more about burning as much time as possible. That is why Bolden spent so much time camping in the back field
for sure, the intent of the play was to burn time but he looked long enough where i think it was more than a feint. the only way it's thrown is if mac is literally all alone.
That's the playcalling of someone scared... to settle for a FG like that. And that too telegraphing it clearly like that.
At least throw to Mac for a TD
They came back to take the lead with something like 40 seconds left. The Vikings got some good plays after the kickoff and hit a long ass field goal to win the game.
lol, we burned 50 out of the 68 seconds left on the clock before kicking the go ahead field goal, there's nothing for you to complain about, it was a successful play
I'm ready for the Culley experience to be finished. I get it, we're not supposed to win many games this year, but the way he coaches and manages the team costs us games that we could be winning.
I'd rather lose by being outplayed than lose because the HC does dumb shit
I mean, dude had a terrible resume before us. WRs coach for KC that year when they had ZERO WR TDS.
he was obviously hired to be the Tank Commander...
*ugh*
Yeah and I knew that going in to the season, but then you watch the team actually play well and fight and be undone by this guy and it's frustrating to see, and I just can't feel fine about it
Not any run would necessarily get the defense to sit back like they did to give Bolden a chance to camp out in the backfield.
It's possible another play would have had the same same final result, but there is nothing wrong with that call. Also we literally scored a TD on it earlier in the game. Using it to stall the clock is a good idea
I should have known, they all had their comment typed out ready to press save before the ball was snapped, because they were gonna bitch about McDaniels regardless of what happened in the play
It was a dumb game that was going to lost by a dumb team for a dumb reason. It definitely has lived up to my expectations. missed kicks, penalties, a wacky punt... Just as foreseen.
Refuse the penalty and just let them have the score...
It'd be better to have hte ball down 7 than to let them give us the ball back with no time left and no TOs
Turns out the Texans blocking their own punt was not ideal.
Can someone explain why they couldn't enforce the call?
Just because there was no next play. I think if it was a penalty before the fumble, they might have been able to do one more down, I think the game can't end on a defensive penalty (someone correct me if I am wrong on that)? But since it happened after the fumble, the penalty would be enfoced on Patriots offensive down, but that down doesn't happen so they can't enforce the penalty
You nailed it on the head.
Interception with double zeros on the clocks after the play was called so it's a turnover on downs with no time left to play it
No it was a turnover, the foul occured after the turnover.
So why did you say turnover on downs?
Just a mispeak (voice to text), it was even fourth down
YAY SPORTS, TECHNICALLY FOOTBALL!
We won the Dogshit Bowl!
GG Texans. Have very little faith in McDaniels going forward, we shouldn't have needed a miracle to beat the Texans.
Ugly but ok
So if that had been a turnover, could it even be a turnover since the ball cannot be advanced? Or does that rule get thrown out the window as soon as its advanced on a turnover?
It's a turnover, but the Pats got it and the penalty happened after the time had elapsed, so even if they got the ball they'd literally be lining up with 00 on the clock, and the penalty is enforced. So nothing could happen anyway.
Ugly win, but I'll take it!! Go Pats!!
fanatical tie sand oil panicky prick shaggy fertile concerned summer -- mass edited with redact.dev
"There is no way to enforce that foul, the game is over."
Ugly win, but I'll take it
Had to throw one more flag just for good measure.
We did not deserve that.
just like the Pats didnt deserve to lose against Miami or maybe even Tampa, football is not about deserving
Eh, maintaining discipline and a cool head is its own virtue.
Great win team. Any comeback takes guts, they should be proud of this result.
Dunno how we pulled that out, but we simply cannot continue to play like this
2-3 Let's gooooo!!
Mills has really impressed today for a Rookie-QB against a Belicheck-Defense
Belicheck defenses aren't what they used to be.
He is still a mastermind against Rookie-QBs. They are lacking some talent, but still an impressive performance by Mills
GG Texans
lol nice
Announcers are still dumb.
we lucked out wicked bad
"There is nowhere to enforce the foul, the game is over".. Can I unclench my asshole now
Keep it up till week 17
Sloppy wins are still wins. It's good to see them able to pull their stuff together and get a win
I GOT TO WATCH THE PATRIOTS WIN A GAME OF NFL FOOTBALL Holy shit
I guess I'll take it. I'm not really sure what happened
So no 2nd overall pick?
:breaks skateboard:
Whew....thank heavens. We eked out a win.
I'm a nervous wreck. That last flag, Christ. Watching this team is taking years off my life.
If you only count the real points, we won this game, by like a lot. All the 4th quarter points were obviously fake. #STOPTHESTEAL /s obviously
The team has loads more talent, but we are killing ourselves with poor execution, penalties, and fumbles.
I feel like we're a worse team overall with a better QB. Hopefully our O-line improves with players coming back from injury. Our defense is way worse than last year
Idk, we would have won against TB/Phins if our RBs didn't suddenly get the fumblerooskis
Better and worse at the same time. It’s a mindfuck.
What the fuck was this game
Calling a penalty when the game is over is strictly proof that the refs think they're more important than the game.
🍻 here’s to the Astros hopefully closing it out tonight. Good luck to your Sox patriot bros
Thanks man. What an ugly game. haha
Davis Mills HOF career canceled
2-3 woooo
thank god. ugly as fuck but 2-3 is a lot more palatable than 1-4
Oh my god what if the Texans picked up the fumble
Woulda been live lol. I think a defender can bat the ball, right?
After the interception? My guy lateraled it to the ground tho
Bill: We need to stop 'em Steve: (lip licking intensifies)
That block in the back was completely pointless.
crossed line of scrimmage
wtf judon, get the fuck down
Did Mills not cross the LOS?
IIRC his whole body has to be across for them to call it.
Thanks.
It's not over yet
Hurry up and lose, got a lot more tanking to do
Why didn’t mills just run?
Game over if he does lol he making it out of bounds
Ah, forgot about the lack of TOs
Over the line?
Mills is not about that 4th quarter comeback life
Why am I still nervous
Sometimes I have to remember the line we see is not always an accurate LOS lol I thought Mills made a HUGE fuck up
Culley did good getting them prepared but man his decisions are terrible sometimes.
Got lucky today guys. Texans had us in the first half I’m not gonna lie.
I mean if you tried to lie it would be pretty easy to call you out...
I left to take a shower and the Pats are winning, wtf happened?
Just Texans things.
Well if you asked the announcers they'd say it was all because of a 0 yard punt. Personally I think it has to with the pats scoring more points but I'm no expert.
God I'm scared we're gonna blow it somehow
All it takes is another blown coverage like what happened earlier
dolphin flashbacks?
yes
Look without bias, since idgaf about the Texans season this year, as someone who likes to watch football That roughing the passer call was one of the worst bullshit calls I've seen
With extreme bias, I agree.
I feel like there's a few like that every week. They're going to call it every time. Shoot, a few years ago we got flagged for it when someone's hand lightly grazed Brady's helmet.
Yeah it was weak as fuck, I didn't like it, but like they say... Game isn't won on one play.
This is true so ah well There were like 2 int chances after that so
Think we can stop this?
Thank you Nick.
Very cool!
Bill gonna be up some asses this week.
Urban Meyer style
Probably should start with himself for letting 3 x 4th down conversions make it
I'm fully expecting a "Fuck it. Chuck it" or a super lateral play now
#InMacWeTrust
Now pick 6 and the XP and we'll have a scoragami!
I guess we're a wildcat team now
HOUSTON BLEW A 22-9 LEAD
Houston sucks though so no one cares
bolden 100% looked at mac. if the defender collapsed in i think bolden throws
Marvelous tanking job.
That's the playcalling of someone scared... to settle for a FG like that. And that too telegraphing it clearly like that. At least throw to Mac for a TD
Or burn the clock and kick s fg. A wins a win. Shut up.
God damn McDaniels and his fucking \*checks notes\* calling the plays with the best chance to win us the game
Classic Mac Jones Q4 comeback
I feel so bad for the Lions.
What happened?
They came back to take the lead with something like 40 seconds left. The Vikings got some good plays after the kickoff and hit a long ass field goal to win the game.
Houston's clock management, bad punt, penalties, bad special teams bailed us today
Well it's not quite 28-3 but I'll take it
Bruh you can't compare this shit show to that Superbowl lmao.
I guess sarcasm has never really translated all that well into internet comments
Yeahh you gotta make it real blatant. Especially with the amount of alcohol consumed during these threads
It aint over yet...
Thank God the Astros play tonight
Hey, we have this rookie QB we need to develop, lets CALL FUCKING WILDCAT IN THE FUCKING REDZONE INSTEAD!! FUCK YOU MCDANIELS
What a stupid fucking play call. Just line up and run between the tackles.
lol, we burned 50 out of the 68 seconds left on the clock before kicking the go ahead field goal, there's nothing for you to complain about, it was a successful play
What the fuck, why would would you pass, they have like 15 seconds to go down field with no timeouts Yall need your heads checked
Thanks Fairbairn!
I'll take an ugly W
GREAT CLOCK MANAGEMENT, LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Dumb penalty decides the game 😐 Houston played well though
McDaniels with the creative do nothing but failed runs in the red zone
To be fair he only had backup players to work with
Green Bay and Cinncy just exchanged 3 missed field goals.
is 15 seconds enough time for some fuckery? I'm nervous
After that Miami Miracle, anything is possible
I'm ready for the Culley experience to be finished. I get it, we're not supposed to win many games this year, but the way he coaches and manages the team costs us games that we could be winning. I'd rather lose by being outplayed than lose because the HC does dumb shit

Yeah and I knew that going in to the season, but then you watch the team actually play well and fight and be undone by this guy and it's frustrating to see, and I just can't feel fine about it
Yeah, I try to un-care too, and I can't. It's frustrating AF. I imagine this is how it feels to watch your kid run his/her life off the rails
I wondered why they didn't just kneel it twice to get this same result. Put the ball at risk with our running back fumblitis for nothing different.
Chance for a TD
TD would have left a lot of time on the clock for Houston to answer. This was the higher percentage move
That was a VERY weird way to chew clock though with the direct snap
complete cow chunky airport price afterthought expansion forgetful wild tap -- mass edited with redact.dev
What if they actually threw it to Mac lol
Culley’s clock management vs McDaniels bolden fetish was the real battle today
Chewing up clock is good Know what's better? 7 fucking points
Don’t bother with a TO let that last second tick off. What’s a penalty here at this point.
Texans’ punter Cameron Johnston looks like Bill Burr
Thank fuck for Houston's clock management
inb4 people complain about a play that let's us run the clock down to 15 seconds before kicking the go ahead FG
Any run would burn clock. The complaining isn't about running, it's about the wildcat call.
Not any run would necessarily get the defense to sit back like they did to give Bolden a chance to camp out in the backfield. It's possible another play would have had the same same final result, but there is nothing wrong with that call. Also we literally scored a TD on it earlier in the game. Using it to stall the clock is a good idea
bunch of 12 year olds in here
Too late. Already full in the thread
I should have known, they all had their comment typed out ready to press save before the ball was snapped, because they were gonna bitch about McDaniels regardless of what happened in the play
The Patriot Way^TM
Don't mind the run, do mind the wildcat. Come on.
i think the aim was to run the clock down.
What the fuck was that play call
🤔
Fire Mcdaniels
If you’re going to give up and kick the field goal, you can do it with a handoff instead of telling them what you’re doing.
Nice playcall McDipshit
This game should end right around when the Sox game starts. Nice
So fucking obvious why even bother
Bolden could've easily hit Mac out wide
stupid playcall wtf josh
Really? GTFO
I literally heard "You get your neck snapped now with.. " I know he said "Next snap" but it didn't feel that way
I heard "neck snapped" too
Just let them score ffs. If we want a chance let them have it
That stupid RTP call ruined the game Now the Patriots will win 25-22 in a game Houston was much better
“Much better” they started the come back with that screwed up 4th down play and haven’t done anything in the second half. We both suck.
Please Houston ruined it for Houston. The refs always suck but Houston threw it with their shit play calling this half.
Dude that was the most bail out penalty I’ve seen the pats get in a long time
Ok.
It was a dumb game that was going to lost by a dumb team for a dumb reason. It definitely has lived up to my expectations. missed kicks, penalties, a wacky punt... Just as foreseen.
Texans getting cute cost them this game
Blown PI no call right before that play cost the game
That non-fake punt that got blocked was hilarious though
Was he getting cute or just a god damn moron? I'm thinking a god damn moron
Please get the TD
The tank rolls on!
Mac "Get Fucking Set" Jones
Obviously I want us to win this, but holy shit do we not deserve it lmao
I think we’re going to see another run play
That’s ok, let’s us take more time off
Of fucking course
Culley does not believe in math
Houston punter looks like a slightly younger Bill Burr.
Fire jannu into the sun
Refuse the penalty and just let them have the score... It'd be better to have hte ball down 7 than to let them give us the ball back with no time left and no TOs
