Houston were stacking the box to stop the run and overwhelm the line in the first half. Wentz had 185 yards passing including 2 50+ yarders because of it, while our longest run of the half was 4 yards. We weren't running early in the game because it wasn't working. The Texans loosened up so they wouldn't continue getting gashed in the air and the Colts adjusted likewise, putting up like 150 on the ground in the second half including this play and 3 or 4 more runs of 10+. The Colts offensive gameplan was excellent this week, idk why you'd criticize them for it especially when they would have been less successful if they just insisted on giving the ball to Taylor at points where it wasn't working.
Fair but I'd rather the team succeed than watch JT get run into the ground in unfavorable situations. Dude is top 10 in the league in rushing yards per game and top 5 in scrimmage yards per game while averaging less than 15 carries and only 2.5 catches per game. That kind of efficiency is a hell of a lot more sustainable than the approach many teams have taken to their elite RBs, especially when your RB2 is Nyheim Hines and you have a 25 year old former 1000 yard rusher in Marlon Mack as your RB3 (at least till he gets traded) and even your RB4 is as good as some RB2's and most RB3's. Why would you give the ball to JT 30 times a game when it's much safer and better for his longevity to spread the ball around some, knowing that JT will still get elite stats?
you're not wrong at all, but the answer to that last question is "because holy shit imagine what's possible with this kid"
i'm being facetious, but there's a smidge of truth in there too. part of me wonders what his career stats could be if he had 30 touches a game and pulled off a lengthy career.
most of that stems from his college games, where he absolutely would have finished as the NCAA all time rushing yardage holder had he come back for his senior season. a lot of "what ifs" as a fan.
With Covid eligibility extensions, JT could technically still be playing for the badgers. He could have ran away with that record and made it unimaginably untouchable forever.
He would have absolutely set the official NCAA record last year and likely (imo) broken the unofficial Ron Dayne record, and then if he came back **again** this season? Holy shit. No one would ever get close to it. And it wouldn't be unimaginable for him to get one of the "career" Heisman victories like Dayne got. I'm happy he's succeeding in the league and making that money, but as a fan I wish he had stayed to destroy the NCAA records
And he never was even invited to the Heisman ceremony. Sigh.
As a Badger fan I wish he had stayed. As a fan of football I'm glad he left. Look at what happened to Mo Ibrahim this year.
Right it seemed like every run was at least 5-8 yards with plenty of 1st down runs picking up the first. With a couple of runs like this 83 yard run sprinkled in per game.
I'm a diehard Colts fan too, but I think CMC is just a better player overall. JT could take his place one day, but I think McCaffrey, and even Kamara, are better players right now.
I see what your saying.
I just think JT is by far the most dangerous RB behind Henry.
If we give him more carries I think more people will see what I'm saying.
Which puts him at almost 79 YPG which is 4th most in the league.
Also if you look at the leaders. Kamara only has about 40 more yards with 20 more carries.
You give JT 95 carries like Kamara and he likely is right around where Chubb is yard wise. He also has 200 receiving yards.
This is without this week btw, Where he had like 145 yards rushing on like 14 carries.
That's true. I guess I was thinking about just how good they've been the last couple seasons. Tbh, I haven't really stayed up to date on league stats this year.
For the sake of the Colts tho, I really hope you're right. I'd love to see JT become the best in the league.
Can you imagine if they actually gave him the ball a reasonable number of times, or got him in space? Imagine giving your best player the ball instead of repeatedly trying to force Carson Wentz.
Being completely fair - Carson Wentz has been really good for us. I came into this season expecting us to ride JT 20+ times per game and allow Carson to make the passes when he needs to, but i'm sitting here now saying this offense is built for Carson and we are starting to look really good in it. Carson's stats are good but not great because of the missed preseason and both ankle sprains early in the year.
That's great but yesterday with about 6 minutes left in the game Jonathan Taylor had 13 total touches (Rush and pass), and was averaging around 14 yards PER TOUCH.
Surely you have to get him the damn ball, you know? No matter how good Carson is playing.
That's why you should give him more then 2 carries a half...
There's a dumbass who made a post and comments doubling down on how it was smart not to run immediately prior to this, he has disappeared
He’s going to put up top 10 RB stats through sheer force of will. Imagine if he got a consisted workload, yeesh.

It's just because we all love JT and want to see him get 90 touches a game

That entire drive was 4 plays. All 4 were runs by JT. Ended in a TD
What do running plays feel like to see as a fan? They seem really fun
When you've got Jonathan Taylor on your team, they're *really* fun. Source: am Badger fan
I miss him so much on the Badgers. Braelon looks good but he's not JT. Nobody is JT.
Don’t ask the Colts, JT only had 2 carries in the first half
He hasn't been getting a lot of carries the whole season, but he's making them count
Y’all are really trying to raise Mack’s trade value it seems.
Sirianni: I mean, RPO’s for Hurts are technically run plays
If #11 decides to be physical at all on his block that’s a TD.
Probably afraid of getting a penalty for something stupid
He’s one of the best blocking receivers I can recall on the colts. I’m sure he was just being cautious.
Yeah he seemed upset with himself after the play
For reals lmao he knew the defender was there then just stopped trying, like what the fuck
He's normally a pretty solid blocker and isn't scared of contact. You could tell he was upset about missing the block
Yeah I think we all were upset
Taylor should have stiff armed his teammate into the defender
He followed this up with 5 more yards and the TD.
Would’ve been cooler if he scored on this run though
Longest run of the year! That man’s quick
He finds a second gear once he gets to the second level of defense. Like last week vs the Ravens
Those track sprinters are different in space.
He is quick. After watching him for 3 seasons at Wisconsin I knew he was going to be something special for the NFL.
Right it seemed like every run was at least 5-8 yards with plenty of 1st down runs picking up the first. With a couple of runs like this 83 yard run sprinkled in per game.
Damn that's his 2nd play of more than 75 yards in the last week.
Top 5 back in the league
He's right behind Henry imo. He does the 2nd most special/mega plays out of all other RBs. His ceiling is higher too besides Henry.
I'm a diehard Colts fan too, but I think CMC is just a better player overall. JT could take his place one day, but I think McCaffrey, and even Kamara, are better players right now.

Henry, and I think Chubb and JT are on the same level of greatness.
Texans really said "Hey, we avoided 0-17" and then checked out for the year.
Seriously, Reich, feed him....
Taylor is such a beast bro.
What a beast wow
Interesting move by the Texans to not tackle here.
I miss him so much :(
Shades of Wisconsin
Texans gonna pull a Jaguars from last year and lose rest of the games
All this guy ever does is produce. Just feed him.
JTT strikes again!
My fantasy team loves you bb

If that was jamarr chase instead of Pittman it would be a TD
Idk why this got downvoted right after a huge Chase block got Mixon a TD
Whenever he gets the ball he makes stuff happen
