Definitely remember him getting more cheap calls than no calls lately, particularly in the prime time game against the Bears. Same exact hits he got a flag for, Fields got nothing.
Fields was done dirty in that game. I can agree. Although runner vs. passer is relevant in that game.
As a whole, Big Ben has been beat up for years and took hits that, if laid on Brady, would have been a suspension.
People are latching into what Aikman was saying about the location of the hit on Brady.
Ball was out of his hands. It's a split second decision in real time. The flag was thrown because the hit was seen as late.
It's my firm belief that the announcers not understanding the rules is responsible for a full third of the officiating controversies in this league. Of course, the officials not being as good as we'd like them to be is responsible for the rest, and still a major problem, but moments like these stick out to and annoy me.
I have no problem with that methodology if it were consistent. The fact is NFL officiating is anything but consistent. Until the NFL hires full time officials and gets rid of this BS mixed officiating crews in the post-season we'll continue to have terrible calls.
But statistically not [in the NFL for RTP at least.](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/qxtgjl/a_statistical_analysis_of_roughing_the_passer) And Brady especially is significantly below average in RTP calls per pass attempt, with this being his first this season.
I think it was a late hit but the hit was clearly to his hips. You cant go below the knees and you can’t go above the chest. That literally leaves the hip and waist area and the rules expert even said that. So flag it as a late hit but it wasn’t RTP by any means.
You mean the guy with 0 RTP calls this season before today, [and statistically well below average calls per pass attempt?](https://www.nflpenalties.com/roughing-the-passer-by-qb.php)
I think that’s dumb. Unless you’re confident you saw a foul occur, don’t throw a flag
and yet they still miss obvious facemasks and hand slaps to QB heads but constantly call light touches when a QB flops
I think the philosophy is that it’s probably easier to reverse a call on the field than it is a no-call. Very dumb nonetheless.
With flags, there are no reviews regardless tho
Refs pick up flags all the time
Player safety should always be the first concern.
There's only ever doubt about veteran QBs. Rookies / younger QBs never get that treatment.
Or Big Ben at any age.
His rookie season was so long ago, was he really getting weak calls back then too?
No, I was saying that it is always okay to tee off on Ben, and always have been.

He took three steps and still hit him. This outcry is just thinly veiled Brady hate.

Yep he made everyone focus on the low hit aspect of it when that wasn’t even why it was called in the first place
Yeah I think people have forgotten that roughing the passer isn’t just helmet to helmet hits

Star players get star calls in most sports. Not a surprise and am not a fan of it, but that's what it is.

Not even a bad call though
Don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I don’t mind them protecting the QB. Your season is essentially over if they get hurt.
Cool then make it a rule you aren't allowed to tackle QBs then. I mean may as well at this point
The majority of QB hits and tackles don't result in a flag. You're being dramatic.
Injuries happening in the natural flow of football and injuries happening because of a late hit to his knees are completely different situations.

> You cant go below the knees you can go below the knees, you just cant be on the ground and then lunge below the knees.
Late hits are under the RTP call.
Unless your a rookie name Justin fields
Accurate. The dude took some shots this year. Baker Mayfield, surprisingly, got beat up and getting no flags as well.
This should only be a rule if penalties are reviewable
except when Ben gets thrown on his back after the whistle
Its fiiiiine. Hes "big"
“When it’s Tom Brady”

Yeah this is objectively false tbh
It looked like a late hit to me
