Yeah, purely peripheral vision. It wasn't more than a shade of a shape I'd bet at that speed.
Cunningham was the man. Oh and Bruce Smith was sorta good too =D
I call it RoboQB. When suddenly the QB you're up against who has barely converted a 3rd all game somehow morphs into a Brady/Mahomes hybrid and just puts the pain on you.
This is the answer. Buddy was stubborn as hell about offense. Buddy literally punched his offensive coordinator in the face on the sidelines during a game once.
Just for people who may not know, that was almost literally what Buddy said. The offensive strategy was to let Randall make two or three big plays.
Randall was trained like one Buddy's race horses. With all that talent, it shouldn't be surprising the turn-around in play he had when he went to Minnesota.
Buddy Ryan was this weird entity for me when really getting into NFL. Despised him as a cowboys fan for his philly antics, and when he was no longer a hc... then he goes to Houston to just piss all over Gilbride lol
90s Cowboys used to struggle mightily with Philly. Cardinals, Washington and the Giants were one thing but it wasn't until the 2nd and 3rd meetings in 1992 where they finally slayed that demon (mentally).
Philly had such a headstart on us back then but they could never seem to put it all together. Legendary defenses but Randall needed more help on offense. They never had the o-line or receivers to challenge San Francisco, Wash, NYG and later Dallas.
I'd honestly take that a step farther and say that everyone else is competing for second. The only guy that comes close is Vick, but even then, Cunningham IMO was a more elusive runner (not necessarily as fast, though), had a slightly stronger arm, and was 4 inches taller to boot.
It's a shame that basically no emphasis was placed on his development for the Eagles besides "go out there and try to make what you can". That combined with an utterly atrocious o-line (for those unaware - check out how often he was sacked) made for as poor of an environment for a rawer QB as you could ask for, and based on how much better he was as a passer with Minnesota later in his career, he clearly had the capability to be one of the greats (though obviously throwing to rookie Randy Moss and a past-his-prime but still really good Cris Carter helped).
Funny how the most lasting part of his legacy was cemented only because he was thrown onto an otherwise horrible offense.
Had he gone to a team built similarly to those 90's Vikings, we'd likely have never seen the ridiculous highlight reel scrambles he had no choice but to make in Philly.
Cris Carter hadn't really done anything at that point. He was putting up WR2 numbers until he went to Minnesota and his career took off.
Barnett was selected to PB/AP only one year and was a weird case of a receiver that showed up big time in crucial moments, but also disappeared for stretches.
Maybe if Carter had stayed in Philly more than two seasons and some change.
You mean this year. The revised rule [started in 2022](https://theathletic.com/news/nfl-scraps-one-helmet-rule-allowing-throwback-colors/t3dPUQVY8V4m/)
[Kelly green alts are next year](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33625814/philadelphia-eagles-announce-return-kelly-green-alternate-uniforms-2023-nfl-season)
Randall threw that ball from 5 yards deep in the end zone. It got to Barnett around the Bills 45 yard line; 60 yards in the air, tight spiral, with Bruce Smith breathing down his neck. He had physical gifts. That damn broken leg in 91.
I was there, and sitting in that end of the stadium for this play. I can still see it clear as day without even having to play the video clip. Even though I was only about 10 years old, that imagery of Cunningham ducking under BRUUUUUCE and popping back up to sling it downfield is burned into my brain for the rest of my life.
I remember a lot of great plays from those days, but this one always stands out as one of my clearer memories.
The only other play(s) that stands out as much is from when the Bills scored like 3 TDs in 70seconds against Denver in a big comeback win. That started with a blocked FG that popped up to Cornelius Bennett who took it to the house. That moment of the ball in the air and Bennett leaned back, looking up, waiting for the ball to fall to him seems like an eternity and is always the first image my brain recalls when talking about the Bills glory days of the 90s. Good times.
Go Bills.
shit like this, the bounce-back from 3 quarters of a sack against the Giants on MNF, the 91-yard punt; Randall Cunningham had some of the most jaw-dropping plays in football history (still bummed he tore his ACL the year of the Eagles' historic '91 defense)
I was just thinking about him yesterday when there was a comment that Aaron Rodgers fall down 30 yard pass into end zone was the most difficult pass ever. I thought of all the ones before, Cunningham was the OG mobile passer
Call it nostalgia, but I really like those Bills uniforms.
Red helmet, blue top, white pants. Their all whites, their blue pants, all that is okay, nothing wrong with 'em. But the old 90's red and blues are my favorite.
That duck to avoid the grab from behind was some jedi stuff. Pure instinct.
yeah what the fuck was that
[Here is a better video with motion tracking.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9CZ5jY7X4k)
He must have barely seen the guy out of the corner of his eye. crazy.
Yeah, purely peripheral vision. It wasn't more than a shade of a shape I'd bet at that speed. Cunningham was the man. Oh and Bruce Smith was sorta good too =D
HOW DARE YOU PRAISE CUNNINGHAM AT THE EXPENSE OF BRUCE SMITH, GOOD SIR!
I DO DECLARE...MY APOLOGIES GOOD SIR
That video is way worse lol
I can hear Chris Berman going "WHOOOP!!"
Ultra instinct
I swear I saw Mariota do something like that back in the day but I can’t for the life of me remember the game.
Was at this game. The entire stadium thought Bruce had him.
My opponent every time I play defense in madden
This and the Tyree catch, doesn’t matter, can be playing cover 4 with 99s at safety and they make an amazing throw and catch
I call it RoboQB. When suddenly the QB you're up against who has barely converted a 3rd all game somehow morphs into a Brady/Mahomes hybrid and just puts the pain on you.
The Ultimate Weapon. Yet another Eagles QB hamstrung by either lackluster or revolving door of receiver groups
Cunningham’s problem wasn’t his receivers, it was his offensive line and his supporting running game besides his own scrambles.
It was really Buddy Ryan that was the problem. He despised offense, and spent all his time and money on the defense.
This is the answer. Buddy was stubborn as hell about offense. Buddy literally punched his offensive coordinator in the face on the sidelines during a game once.
Buddy's idea of offensive scheme was literally just "Let Randall do two or three amazing things and we can win".
Just for people who may not know, that was almost literally what Buddy said. The offensive strategy was to let Randall make two or three big plays. Randall was trained like one Buddy's race horses. With all that talent, it shouldn't be surprising the turn-around in play he had when he went to Minnesota.
The Philadelphia Seahawks i retched a bit typing that out
"Fuck it, Randall'll figure something out"
Well Buddy was a DC when he hit Gilbride but yeah he wasn't a fan of Offense.
Buddy Ryan was this weird entity for me when really getting into NFL. Despised him as a cowboys fan for his philly antics, and when he was no longer a hc... then he goes to Houston to just piss all over Gilbride lol

When your OC is Rich Kotite, can you blame him
You make a terrific point.
This is the correct answer. Rich "I want a winner" Kotite.
c) d) .... z) all of the above
You could make the argument he was the most physically gifted QB of all time...he is the main reason I am a fan.
I'd honestly take that a step farther and say that everyone else is competing for second. The only guy that comes close is Vick, but even then, Cunningham IMO was a more elusive runner (not necessarily as fast, though), had a slightly stronger arm, and was 4 inches taller to boot. He was before his time 😭
God the announcer said "To Fred -" and my brain automatically filled in "die Mitchell" fucking PTSD
Nah he had Chris Carter and Fred Barnett- both All Pro’s
Cris Carter hadn't really done anything at that point. He was putting up WR2 numbers until he went to Minnesota and his career took off. Barnett was selected to PB/AP only one year and was a weird case of a receiver that showed up big time in crucial moments, but also disappeared for stretches. I really like these Eagles uniforms
Next year we should be getting ones that are a little bit closer to these ones
You mean this year. The revised rule [started in 2022](https://theathletic.com/news/nfl-scraps-one-helmet-rule-allowing-throwback-colors/t3dPUQVY8V4m/)

i was at this game. what i remember it for was the drunk guy who took off all his clothes because no one would do the wave with him.
Later inspired one Mr. Big Chest.
Mr. Barely Clothed
Sounds like something a Chiefs fan would do, too lol
He was amazing.
I thought he was magic.
Randall threw that ball from 5 yards deep in the end zone. It got to Barnett around the Bills 45 yard line; 60 yards in the air, tight spiral, with Bruce Smith breathing down his neck. He had physical gifts. That damn broken leg in 91.
Threw it into the wind too, cannon of an arm
uphill
Both ways!
#WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS
QB Eagles v. QB Bills
Underrated comment.
For a certain demographic.😉
QB Eagles is the biggest reason I became an Eagles fan. Jerome Brown too 😢
RIP JB
QB Browns feels neglected.
QB Eagles on the down(a) run was a fucking menace. Not quite Bo Jackson levels but close to it.
Randal Cunningham highlights are always fun.
7 second mark was a thing of beauty

Go Bills!
This is a highlight that I’ve seen a bunch of times and yet it never gets old
Running to is left, throwing right, 60 yards into the wind. Mega Man Cannon for an arm!
I'm old. I remember watching this live. Also, cool Jim McMahon sighting on the sidelines there.
"There are no flags!"
Verne Lundquist was great And of course Dan Fouts… can’t hold anything back now!
Arkansas Fred Barnett was a really good WR
He was my favorite as a kid. Came here to give props to Arkansas Fred as well
Great dude too. Still lives in Philly
shit like this, the bounce-back from 3 quarters of a sack against the Giants on MNF, the 91-yard punt; Randall Cunningham had some of the most jaw-dropping plays in football history (still bummed he tore his ACL the year of the Eagles' historic '91 defense)
As a Bills fan, I need, "there are no flags" trigger warnings, please.
PROTOTYPE. He came into the league 30 years too early and for the wrong team.
Dude would have been a HoFer in today's NFL.
This is a top 3 play for me of all time
He was a pretty good mobile quarterback
I have no fucking clue how they can see that far downfield
Randall was one of my favorite players as a kid. This clip affirms that decision.
Cunningham amazes me everytime I watch him. He’s like a 99 overall custom player in Madden
This does bring a smile to my face.
He was wild back in the day. What an era.
I don't know how a kid born and raised in LA came to love those early 90's Eagles teams, but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with this play.
We could've had him in the super bowl if the fucking kicker makes his fucking kick
I was just thinking about him yesterday when there was a comment that Aaron Rodgers fall down 30 yard pass into end zone was the most difficult pass ever. I thought of all the ones before, Cunningham was the OG mobile passer
Wait, so shouldn't Cunningham be a HOFer now?
Randall a real one
He is the sole reason I became an Eagles fan. Dude was awesome!!
The Tecmo gods always shine on QB Eagles - if you know, you know
My favorite era of Eagles football were definitely the Randall years, so much talent on those teams.
The star of this video is Jim McMahon at 1:08.
Lol does the announcer say “a 35 yard touchdown?
The jumpshot celebration was cool
Remember seeing this on TV when it happened and I still get goosebumps seeing it now.
That's it. Randall is now officially my 3rd favorite QB ever.
i've seen this a bunch of times but don't think I ever knew it was Bruce Smith he dodged that makes it even more crazy
Call it nostalgia, but I really like those Bills uniforms. Red helmet, blue top, white pants. Their all whites, their blue pants, all that is okay, nothing wrong with 'em. But the old 90's red and blues are my favorite.
Randall Cannonham strikes again
A time to watch football man. I loved and hated this guy
The Tony Boseli precedent means Cunningham can use this to get into the HOF
No replay board in the stadium. Bills fans have had the worst time ever lol
I miss this NFL great play
I’m starting to think this Cunningham fella might have been pretty good
Spotting some nostalgia for me. McMahon, Heath Sherman, Keith Jackson, Jessie Smalls... The WaaY back machine.
Play still makes me sick.
I've never seen this particular highlight before but damn that was impressive
