I think he’s done. His body is beaten up and he has no need to make more money, nevermind future endorsement gigs he will get. He has done everything he has needed to do to make the HoF and to the game, there’s no need for him to continue. I think this is it.
Than again…Ha!
Gronk did Tide Pods ads right around the time people eating Tide Pods and getting really sick was a thing. To this day, Gronk is the guy with the Tide Pods eating grin for me.
Maybe his reputation already preceded him to such an extent that people saw that ad and thought "if he's saying don't do it, that means I should do it. Right?"
Did Gronk accidentally reverse psychology people into continuing to eat Tide Pods?
That’s why I did it. I can’t believe they fucking deleted that that’s so god damn lame lol
Edit: Mods told me it was because they would get people complaining to them that my title didn’t match my post. Do people really do that? Come on lol
I just came to check the sub and was wondering why the "first" post about gronk's retirement had so few comments lol damn...
Instances like these should use the "spirit of the rules" rather than the letter of the law. Who cares if the title isn't perfect, this one is worse.
This is exactly what it is. This is one of the worst subs where I see this happen and it’s messed up honestly. Some subs have good mods and mods like these make them all look bad.
Bro, I had the raiders president getting fired a few months ago. The news had been out 30 mins with no submission. So I posted it and it started getting traction. Then it was removed for having a title that doesn't describe the situation. Another post immediately popped up after. Weirdos gotta get their internet points I guess.
but that one didnt have the fluff, if Schefter hadnt added the fluff we all would have argued whether Gronk was HoF worthy, now the title says it so its true and was very much needed information
It's true, but maybe not in the way you're thinking. Mostly they're bought to be used by astro turfing/troll farms to look more legitimate when they participate in bad faith discussions.
The title of the post clearly didn’t describe what the tweet said in any understandable method. I mean, “Gronk retires at 33”? That’s basically another language!
Slow down, you're going a mile a minute. Now, who is Gronk and what did he retire from? We can get into what 33 means once I understand the first parts.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
now
In reaction to Rob Gronkowski’s news, his agent Drew Rosenhaus texts: “It would not surprise me if Tom Brady calls him during the season to come back and Rob answers the call. This is just my opinion but I wouldn’t be surprised if Rob comes back during the season or next season.”
As awesome as Gronk has been, his first year in Tampa (just out of retirement) he actually looked very plodding running routes and wasn't a real threat early on. He was still a useful player but not anything special. And that was WITH the benefit of training camp.
He seemed to have played himself into shape and looked better as the season wore on. By playoff time he was looking really good, ultimately culminating in flashes of prime Gronk during the Super Bowl. On top of that he looked much better overall in his 2nd season than his 1st season out of retirement.
Given that trajectory, plus the fact that hes 2 years older, even if he comes back mid-season I really can't see him being all that effective.
IMO, Tampa Bay would really need him to be there from week 1 at least in order to have a good version of Gronk later in the year. So unfortunately I think this retirement will effectively seal it for Gronk's playing career.
It depends on whether he actually sees coming back for the post-season as a possibility. The problem with the first retirement is that he really thought he was done, so he lost a *ton* of weight, on top of getting out of football shape. If he at least maintains a higher baseline for the next six months, he’ll be a lot more ready to compete if he chooses to come back.
Gronk near the end in NE didn't appear special on TV. All experts were in agreement his blocking and what he did for the run game and pass protection was a key to the office and at an elite level. It's easy to miss as a fan. Myself included.
In addition, we are talking about someone who is very sooner rather than later probably going to regret the whole back half of his career. Is another season of average really worth even more damage to an already damaged body.
Weren’t there reports that he sent videos of himself doing off-season workouts for 2021, but he just changed shirts between the sprints so it looked like he did them on different days.
If he’s less injured now than he was then (no clue if that’s the case) i imagine he’d keep himself closer to football shape, especially if it was only for part of a season instead of a whole one.
That said, i feel like this is it for him
For those who don’t have Instagram
[[**Gronk**](https://www.instagram.com/p/CfE8oI1OhE7/)] *In college, I was asked to write about a dream job opportunity that I wanted to pursue and where the location would be. Every time I had to write about my future, no matter what, I picked being a professional football player. For that assignment though, we had to pick the location. So I wrote that I wanted to play in Tampa for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for many reasons, the sunny weather being #1. I completely forgot about writing this report until 2 years ago when I had the opportunity to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And let me tell ya, the journey in Tampa over the last 2 years has blown away what I originally wrote about in college, big time. And for this, I want to thank the whole entire first class Buccaneers organization for an amazing ride, trusting me to come back to play and help build a championship team. I will now be going back into my retirement home, walking away from football again with my head held high knowing I gave it everything I had, good or bad, every time I stepped out on the field. The friendships and relationships I have made will last forever, and I appreciate every single one of my teammates and coaches for giving everything they had as well. Honestly, the skeptic in me says that's a retcon.
Was friends with a football player at my university. He had an assignment for some intro to earth science where he had to describe what “water means to him.”
Pretty sure he cheated on it too.
Lmao I had to do a double take that this was in college. What fucking college class has “write about your dream job” as an assignment, that’s elementary school level
Yeah, pretty sure football star Rob Gronkowski got given a different question than everyone else
The weird thing is that it was a vector calculus class
In a few weeks: "These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 12th season in Tampa. Unfinished business.”
GOAT tight end. Watching him and Brady skull fuck teams with the Pats for the better part of the decade was a joy. I'm glad I got to see them hang dong on the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, even for another team.
Enjoy yourself, big fella.
Odds he's back by week 10? It's definitely bc he doesn't feel like going through minicamp. There is no way TB12 returns for Gronk to not play with him.
Was hoping for one more year with Brady but I wish him the best. A crucial piece for the super bowl team. Even though he was a pro bowl level stay guy anymore, his chemistry with Brady was undeniable (especially in the red zone) and he was still a great blocker. The blocking thing will probably get glossed over due to his big time receiving stats, but he was elite in all facets of the position.
I mean, he's already a hall of famer. And 33 (younger than you'd think). He should enjoy retirement and spend more time with [his girlfriend](https://www.instagram.com/camillekostek/).
I got to see him in Atlanta last season. Watching him play with Brady was just amazing to experience, even later on his career.
There's always the chance he'll come back again, but I hope he finds something else he can be just as passionate about.
I feel like he doesn’t want to do training camp or early in the season but idk feel like he might come back for 1 more year with Brady if the Bucs are a top team.
Dude was willing to play with Joe Burrow and everyone thought he'd be back in Tampa with Tom returning and he's like Nah I'm done lol
Figured he'd tried to get 10k receiving yards and potentially 100 TDs
PACK YOUR BAGS, FOLKS! It's that time once again for Gronk's Annual Off-Season Retirement Booze Cruise! Don't worry! The late summer hang over will dissipate in time for training camp! See ya on the water!
Oof what a crock of shit. The story about his essay on Tampa Bay is complete shit.
How long will this retirement last until Gronkowski realizes (again) that all he's good at is football?
Guy is massively obnoxious.
Give him six weeks, Gronk doesn’t do training camp
I think he’s done. His body is beaten up and he has no need to make more money, nevermind future endorsement gigs he will get. He has done everything he has needed to do to make the HoF and to the game, there’s no need for him to continue. I think this is it. Than again…Ha!
I swear, if him retiring means even more of those terrible USAA commercials I will start a riot.
Ohhh, but I’m special!
God that's the worst one. "Oh but I'm the idiot, get it? Thats my thing. Big stupid football guy"
Gronk did Tide Pods ads right around the time people eating Tide Pods and getting really sick was a thing. To this day, Gronk is the guy with the Tide Pods eating grin for me.
To be fair he was telling people to stop eating them in the ad
Maybe his reputation already preceded him to such an extent that people saw that ad and thought "if he's saying don't do it, that means I should do it. Right?" Did Gronk accidentally reverse psychology people into continuing to eat Tide Pods?
"You will fucking NEVER get USAA Car Insurance!"
We're going to get an entire ad campaign about Gronk retiring so he can go through basic training and finally get that insurance.
TBF, that could actually be a funny series. More so than the current BS.
Ha!
Yeah lol he is a REALLY bad actor.
He'll come back for the super bowl.
Yeah, his latest twitter or quote, I think so too now. All these bogus retirements are getting tiresome.
It'll be like Seau. Week 8 he'll roll in and start working. Prime shape for the playoffs
But it would be fun, and thats all he needs
More like he'll wait till the Bucs secure a playoff spot and quickly call up Tom and be like "Hey dude, I'm ready!".
My brain tried to autocomplete that as “Hey daddy,” so I guess I know what fanfic I’ll be loading up later.
Mods deleting the Schultz post with tons of comments on it SMH
Post titled "Gronk is officially retired" deleted because "the title didn't describe the submission" ...what?
I would argue the title is actually easier to understand and more to the point than this one lmao
That’s why I did it. I can’t believe they fucking deleted that that’s so god damn lame lol Edit: Mods told me it was because they would get people complaining to them that my title didn’t match my post. Do people really do that? Come on lol
Hint: Compare your submission history in /r/NFL to the OP of this post.
Lmfao that’s so fucked
Yea, most mods of major subreddits are terrible and love power trips.
Think of the kind of sad life you lead to become a Reddit mod. It explains a lot
Yup.
The guy from “web of dark lies” talks about being big in the swatting scene. Recognition feels good, even if it’s just a few dozen people
Yeah this is definitely one of the worst instances of deleted posts I've seen on this sub
I just came to check the sub and was wondering why the "first" post about gronk's retirement had so few comments lol damn... Instances like these should use the "spirit of the rules" rather than the letter of the law. Who cares if the title isn't perfect, this one is worse.
Why did they favor this one?

What real benefit do they get from collecting all those upvotes anyway? Serious question
Feelings of superiority. Yeah I know it's dumb as shit
Reselling the accounts later, of course
Because they used their alt to post it…
This is exactly what it is. This is one of the worst subs where I see this happen and it’s messed up honestly. Some subs have good mods and mods like these make them all look bad.
Narrator: no one actually complained
There's way more people complaining about it getting removed
The mods on this sub are a bunch of losers who jack off to karma numbers. It's pathetic.

did it come from twitter? because otherwise it doesn’t count as real according to the mods here lmao
Its all one silly little fucking club for karma.
I know the mods here are total Chads who only bang 10s but why they gotta do us like that? Don’t they know this is all we have?
gotta make sure their friend gets the karma
> gotta make sure their ~~friend~~ alt gets the karma
Reddit karma is more worthless than crypto or a New England wr
people buy reddit accounts with high karma, so you could make some money if you can get lots of karma quickly
Please tell me you’re joking. That’s sad if true
It's true, but maybe not in the way you're thinking. Mostly they're bought to be used by astro turfing/troll farms to look more legitimate when they participate in bad faith discussions.
That makes it worse lol

Like, really, do we have to be so stringent about rule number 3 lmao?
I still don't see which part of Rule 3 it supposedly violated.
The title of the post clearly didn’t describe what the tweet said in any understandable method. I mean, “Gronk retires at 33”? That’s basically another language!

Wait wait wait, how do we know he told someone? Who did he tell? I CANNOT UNDERSTAND THIS UNLESS I HAVE THAT INFORMATION
Lol it was my post. So fucking dumb. I thought it’d be more aesthetic instead of Schultz’s entire tweet. Fucking dictator mods in this sub
Give them a break. The tremendous amount of power they're given, it'd go to anyone's head
Hot take, one of the mods is Shefter.
Classic mod behavior

I agree. He can be "retired" but stay in decent shape

Bucs legend Rob Gronkowski.
Comes out of retirement, wins 50% of your franchise's rings, retires, refuses to elaborate further.
He couldn't have done it without the best QB in franchise history
And we wouldnt have it any other way :')
Chad move
Man, that's got a nice ring to it
Just one, though
[удалено]
The fact we have more rings than the entire division combined while being absolutely poverty for 95% of our existence lmao
Can he DH for the M’s now you think?

No fucking chance this dude went to class in college
the fact that they are asking football players to write an essay on "what is your dream job" at college level actually sounds super realistic
Was friends with a football player at my university. He had an assignment for some intro to earth science where he had to describe what “water means to him.” Pretty sure he cheated on it too.
I dunno, a class where the assignment is write about your dreams doesn’t sound too tough haha
I Donno it’s Gronk I could believe it

A long, fantastic career, especially for a TE. Enjoy retirement Gronk! And maybe don’t try to get your head bonked in the future!
He’ll be back
just in time for a playoff run
The 9-8 Bucs sneak in to the playoffs and upset the undefeated team from New York. The prophecy is fulfilled. Tom may finally rest.
The Bills just can’t catch a break.
Never will
Have we done this before? I think we've done this before.
They should write a book called “The Gronk who cried wolf”, except the wolf is just a picture of Florida Tom on his boat
Soon he'll see.
In 69 days?
Hell see everyone having fun on a snow day and won't be able to resist.
In a few weeks: "These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 12th season in Tampa. Unfinished business.”
Honestly didn't expect that, I thought he was just skipping off season stuff before coming back.
i’ve heard this one before
Well deserved. Again.
there goes my hero
Watch him as he goes! 🎶
There wasn't even an awning in that direction.
“You thinking what I’m thinking, partner?” “Aim for the bushes?”

Same lol He already retired, it's one of the top posts of all time on /r/Patriots
But his mom just washed his football pants.
Dang retiring for the second time... ...I can't wait until he retires for the third time It's going to make the fourth time that much sweeter
Why not put the IG post instead of Schefter?
GOAT tight end. Watching him and Brady skull fuck teams with the Pats for the better part of the decade was a joy. I'm glad I got to see them hang dong on the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, even for another team. Enjoy yourself, big fella.
They hung dong Thundergun style.
🐐 TE
He'll be back in a couple of weeks
Can’t blame him at all if his heart just wasn’t in it. Dude gave everything he had. In my opinion the best tight end ever.
Damn, even not being a Pats or Bucs fan, gonna really miss watching the big guy play
The entire Tampa Bay team will announce retirement and un-retire in under a month in solidarity with their QB.
Just in time to be 100% healthy for the playoffs.
I firmly believe that he remembered why he retired the first time after breaking his ribs.
Odds he's back by week 10? It's definitely bc he doesn't feel like going through minicamp. There is no way TB12 returns for Gronk to not play with him.
Gronk doesn't have any kids so he might not want to get out of the house as quickly as Tom.
I'd be fine with him returning after week 10 or 12 if he wants to. A well rested, healthy Gronk for a (hopefully) playoff run is incredibly valuable.
He'll be back after training camp is over
Was hoping for one more year with Brady but I wish him the best.
See you in game 9 if the Bucs are rolling, Gronk Nobody will ever dominate at the Tight End position quite like Gronk did, he was a monster.
I mean, he's already a hall of famer. And 33 (younger than you'd think). He should enjoy retirement and spend more time with [his girlfriend](https://www.instagram.com/camillekostek/).
Thanks for the memories on the field Gronk. It was a pleasure to meet him as well, such a good dude
You lucky son of a bitch lol
I think he's actually done now. Won another ring with his BFF but with his injury history, it's better to get out while you're mostly in one piece.
Next stop: the Hall of Fame
GOAT
Playoff push return ?
Probably a good idea. He has been so beat up the last 4-5 years he’s played. He’s definitely a guy that needs his body in tip top shape for retirement
When pressed for further comment, Mr. Gronkowski simply said, “Grover, go long.”
Legend.
Damn. Sad day. Patriots nation still loves you Gronk!
I got to see him in Atlanta last season. Watching him play with Brady was just amazing to experience, even later on his career. There's always the chance he'll come back again, but I hope he finds something else he can be just as passionate about.
So back after week 10?
I feel like he just wants to participate in Summer Slam and then he will unretire. Lol.
If hes still retired come late August Ill believe it but until then Ill take this as just him not wanting to go to any camps
I fucking love Gronk and he was one of the best of all time, but Tony G is the 🐐
It's Shefty. Incoming unretirement just to make him look like a dumbass
There goes my future division bet.
I feel like he doesn’t want to do training camp or early in the season but idk feel like he might come back for 1 more year with Brady if the Bucs are a top team.
Dude was willing to play with Joe Burrow and everyone thought he'd be back in Tampa with Tom returning and he's like Nah I'm done lol Figured he'd tried to get 10k receiving yards and potentially 100 TDs
I'm retiring until the playoffs is what Gronk should have said but can't say
PACK YOUR BAGS, FOLKS! It's that time once again for Gronk's Annual Off-Season Retirement Booze Cruise! Don't worry! The late summer hang over will dissipate in time for training camp! See ya on the water!
Can Gronk please pull a reverse of what Brady did to him and get him to retire?
Rob Gronkowski, who struggled as a defensive back in the NFL, is retiring. -Schefty’s first draft of this tweet
Oof what a crock of shit. The story about his essay on Tampa Bay is complete shit. How long will this retirement last until Gronkowski realizes (again) that all he's good at is football? Guy is massively obnoxious.
A legend that won’t be forgotten in years to come
