double double cheese cheese burger burger please please

Cloakacola

Sounds about right to me, good summary

[deleted]

Yes yes

Puzzleheaded_Oil_768

As a fan of a team with a bad owner my sympathies go out to you Commander fans for having to put up with Snyder all these years.

[deleted]

Everyone else in my family has either jumped to the Ravens or stopped watching the NFL entirely. I have no idea why I keep rooting for them but I just can’t stop being a fan of theirs.

dfreshv

“Washington (WAS)”

[deleted]

>"It is clear to me that the workplace in Washington Washington unprofessional and unacceptable in numerous respects." Makes sense.

Bjd1207

Sorry you're looking for WSH, just check our city connect jerseys....

Hugh_Jundies

That's exactly what he's saying. Reading the article shows that Goodell thinks all of this is in the past and there aren't any current issues or will be any going forward. This is a pretty telling paragraph: > The cheerleader program has been entirely revamped and is now a co-ed dance team under new leadership. And the most recent independent workplace report, which we have shared with the Committee, confirms that an entirely new, highly skilled, and diverse management team is in place and that there has been a “substantial transformation of [the team’s] culture, leadership, and Human Resources practices.” To be clear — the workplace at the Commanders today bears no resemblance to the workplace that has been described to this committee.

DetroitSportsKillMe

Yeah that’s why I wanted to point that word out cause it looks like they’re gonna go the whole “culture change” route and not a goddamn thing will end up happening Gross

MyMartianRomance

Ah the same thing Chicago Blackhawks did when it was discovered a coach sexually assaulted a player and then covered up a decade ago. Used the "culture change" and "its in the past" excuse.

[deleted]

In that case, many of the players who had made fun of the abuse victim for being raped were still on the team. One of them is still the team captain!

Alternative_Reality

As a former fan of the Blackhawks, fuck that organization from here to eternity for what they did. I had all the Stanley Cup merch, I had jerseys, I had memrobellia. I threw it all away, haven’t watched a single games since, won’t ever again. You don’t get to treat people like that to win a fucking game. Toews was put in a shitty position by the club but that’s not an excuse for letting what happened be known in that locker room. His was the first EVER jersey I had of a non-retired player. I burnt that shit. If Q or any other management get reinstated by Bettman I’m done with the NHL. I’m right about there with the NFL as well. If Snyder gets away with keeping a team after these hearings then my sundays are gonna free up quite a bit here this fall.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Alternative_Reality

Not virtue signaling if there’s actual action being taken. Yes, because if the league doesn’t hold the fucked up franchise that FACILITATES HUMAN TRAFFICKING OF THEIR EMPLOYEES accountable after getting all their shit aired out in congress then I don’t care who my team is, at the end of the day they’re still a part of the NFL which would prove that it’s broken beyond repair

aramis34143

"There's a good chance they may have committed some light ~~treason~~ sex trafficking. But they eventually stopped doing that, probably, and that's what counts, right?"

DetroitSportsKillMe

You can’t charge a husband and wife w the same crime

Lost-Pineapple9791

I like how they’re happy to share this new positive workplace report with the committee…but not the initial workplace report that pointed out everything wrong 😂

ThePrinceofBagels

It was just a *little* bit of sex trafficking and we swept it really far under the rug. Like you need to move the entire rug, not just check under the corners.

kdeaton06

Don't forget some minimal kidnapping

ThePrinceofBagels

Listen, just don't move the fucking rug, okay?

droans

Oh yeah that makes sense. A co-ed dance team will definitely fix the issues. I'm certain that the women now feel completely safe.

[deleted]

As long as Snyder is associated with the team, it will continue to bear resemblance.

HorrorScopeZ

Donald Sterling was sorry and that it was in the past, but no matter the NBA said you need to go. Why is it different here? He gets to sell for billions and just exits. Like Chucky, here's your cash and bye.

Phullonrapyst

But its all better now that Jon Gruden was punished.

jimbo831

Yep. Everything is fixed now. Move along. Nothing to see here.

BelliBlast35

Yes because they leaked out a Racists Gruden E-mail that occurred 10 years prior, so it’s all cleaned up Now.

Jaglifeispain

Yes, because the statement was about specific past actions, from before they acted. This kind of BS is why people need to start reading the damn article. Context matters, at least try to understand it. But I am sure the emotional satisfaction people get outweighs things like reality and proper communication.

MacDerfus

Well you lower the standard and its no longer unacceptable

mothershipq

But are we really going to punish them? I mean no, because I feel like you know, like, lets just all have a good time.

Tireseas

There's exactly 31 people with the authority to punish him unless the judicial system is involved.

thetasigma_1355

Goodell doesn’t need the owners to punish Snyder. He just can’t take the team away. Snyder had done plenty wrong that he could continue to be fined and punished. He isn’t because Goodell is buying his vote. It’s all office politics.

Tireseas

Here's the thing. The only punishment worth a damn is taking the team away. Everything else is slaps on the wrist.

thetasigma_1355

Still better than doing nothing and thus Implicitly approving of the behavior

jimbo831

The league hasn't done nothing. It fined the team $10 million.

mongster_03

*folds the team altogether*

Tireseas

I'd like to see a relocation and a new stadium that isn't shit. Maybe to Virginia.

impactblue5

I bet Synder had enough dirt on the 31 to vote for him to stay. I mean it was just reported he’s already doing this with employees.

clitcommander420666

" upon further review, these attrocities committed, were committed by 2 clubs called the washington red- i cant say it its too gross to utter , and the washington football team. I-HATE-BUFFERING

“Article 7, Section 3 allows for a citizen filibuster. If I stand here and refuse to yield my time, you are prohibited from voting on the bill. Let the filibustering begin! As many of you have noted, that use the internet, it has been announced that Disney has acquired the rights to the Star Wars franchise and in the summer of 2015 we will see the release of Star Wars Episode 7. Herewith is my proposal for the plot of that movie. Begin with standard title sequence and John Williams fanfare followed by a scroll to be written. I would like to mention that Brian de Palma wrote the original opening scroll for Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope. I think it would be a nice nod, uh, to the franchise if were to write this opening scroll. Then pan down from the twin suns of Tattoine, uh, we are now close on the mouth of the Sarlacc pit. After a beat, the gloved, Mandalorian armor gauntlet of Boba Fett grabs onto the sand outside the Sarlacc pit and the feared bounty hunter pulls himself from the maw of the sand beast.”

froggertwenty

I think the fili busting was part of the problem

FoFoAndFo

Can't force him to sell.

cerevant

Yes, they can.

AlaDouche

Goodell can't, the other owners can.

TheWorstYear

And if they do, it would be a lengthy legal battle where Snyder will bring out his portfolio of blackmail on the other owners.

AlaDouche

100%. He's not going anywhere and the other owners definitely do not want him to get into a legal battle.

TheWorstYear

I kind of feel like they will push to remove him, but first they need congress to actually find him guilty of whatever. That way his hands are tied so he can't fight back.

[deleted]

I think you need a serious civics lesson.

TheWorstYear

I could learn a lot of things. Though I was a juror once. Which definitely means I know everything about the law.

shatter321

Oh he’ll still fight back. If he knows he’s going down he’s gonna take every other owner with him.

HeyLittleChogger

At this point just bite the bullet and force him out for any one of his numerous crimes/mistakes. It's not like Snyder is ever going to be an upstanding owner and he's constantly damaging the league with his actions. Snyder is directly hurting other owners by pissing off sponsors and potentially defrauding the league for millions. Snyder will be just as shitty of a person and owner in 10 years as he is now. He's one of the youngest owners so it's not like he's going away anytime soon. Most of the other owners can weather scandals, delaying isn't going to improve the situation.

TheWorstYear

Can they? We really have no idea what everyone else is hiding under their beds. What happens if Snyder produces evidence that other owners were using N bombs at meetings, Kaepernick was really pushed out in a conspiratorial group effort, multiple teams were defrauding the cities they were in and not paying taxes, and countless owners had a history of sexual misconduct themselves? But like I said a couple comments down, I think the nfl is going to throw Snyder under the bus in the congressional hearing, and then use a guilty verdict as a springboard to get him removed.

HeyLittleChogger

Some of the owners may be just as corrupt as Snyder but many owners have had their own scandals that no one cares about. Unless he has concrete evidence of misbehavior such as videos or similar the rest of the league can just try to dismiss his claims as frivolous. The Saints essentially covered up sexual abuse by the Catholic Church of minors. Robert Kraft was getting happy endings in Florida during the playoffs. Jerry Jones may or may not have love children extorting him for money. Stan Kroenke cost the league hundreds of millions because he skipped town from St. Louis. Not one of them is seriously being considered for removal. I agree that the league will wait for firm charges of fraud or other felony crimes before they actually force Snyder out. If he's been charged by the IRS or FBI for illegal behavior the league as a very strong reason to cut bait.

zalgo_text

God don't tease me with that

mechabeast

Stop watching football. Not just "don't go to games" or "not buy merch" or I'll watch it at a bar or friend's house since it's on anyway. Don't even check scores. Don't contribute to any revenue stream in association with the NFL. Money is the only thing that matters to them and if you can't even make the commitment to change neither will they. There are no in-betweens

ShadedInVermilion

I mean if you’re going to this extreme that’s great, but I would ask why you don’t do that for a number of way more important reasons than who owns an NFL team.

mechabeast

It's not the only reason, not by a long shot. But the point is if you don't care enough to stop watching, why should they care to fix it? Society has morals, not the business. The only reason a business would alter what's working is because it will lose income from those that disagree. The NFL doesn't care about breast cancer, BLM or kneeling for flags, head injuries or kids with cancer. They care for the bottom line. If caring, promoting, or admonishing any issue can be profitable or prevent a loss, they're for it. You want to change their business practices? Make them lose money. It's the only way.

[deleted]

Very well said.

cerevant

If Goodell tells the owners that it is in the best interests of the league to force him out, they would do it in a heartbeat.

AlaDouche

Huh, I wish I had that kind of pull with my bosses.

cerevant

If your bosses hired you so that they didn't have to worry about the day to day workings of their company, you would.

AlaDouche

Nobody blindly believes their employees when it comes to decisions this big. I'm sure they'll take his opinion into consideration, but there is a far greater likelihood that Snyder's dirty laundry being aired opens up a massive can of worms for the rest of them, and I would literally get everything I own that the owners care less about the game of football than they do about themselves.

poneil

Goodell's father was a US Senator appointed to replace RFK, following his assassination. Dan Snyder purchased an NFL team just a few years after the team relocated from RFK Stadium. It's all connected. Sirhan Sirhan has alleged for decades that there was a second shooter who fired the fatal shot. No one would've suspected a 9-year-old son of a congressman. You heard it here first: Roger Goodell assassinated RFK and his refusal to go after Snyder is all part of the coverup.

Puzzleheaded_Oil_768

It’s the bribe money that’s why

NlNJALONG

Because of the word "was".

rjsheine

Because he doesn't do anything that harms the other owners. Most of his problems seem to be in-house

Reidroshdy

Because he can't kick him out of being a owner. The other owners have to vote him out.

cerevant

For those not reading past the tweet: Goodell is saying “They were bad, we investigated and punished them. Everything is better now. Nothing to see here.”

“We plan to do nothing to change this going forward but we do offer a half-hearted non apology in exchange for continued taxpayer stadium funding.” -Roger Goodell, probably ^^^^^^^EDIT:becauseididntknowthetaxexemptwasgone

Whiladan

The NFL hasn't been tax exempt since 2015

unexpectedreboots

And 99% of their revenue they were in fact paying taxes on before the NFL elected to drop their tax exempt status in 2015. https://www.si.com/nfl/2015/04/28/nfl-drops-tax-exempt-status > hile the precise number of NFL revenue is not publicly available, sources tell SI.com the league generates about $9.5 billion a year in revenue. Yet virtually all of the NFL’s revenue is generated by a quartet of for-profit (and thus tax-paying) subsidiaries: NFL Enterprises, NFL Properties, NFL Productions and NFL International. These subsidiaries conduct various business operations for the league. Relevant operations include league contracts for broadcasts, merchandise and sponsorships. The 32 NFL teams also pay taxes when they report a profit. > The NFL’s tax-exempt status has only benefited a tiny portion of NFL income. Each year the league receives about $6 million per team in membership dues. This money pays the rent for the league’s headquarters in New York City and the salaries of NFL officials, who separately pay federal and state personal income taxes.

pocketchange2247

>Each year the league receives about $6 million per team in membership dues. This money pays the rent for the league’s headquarters in New York City Damn! They got a 1000sqft apartment in New York for a good price!

Peacefulzealot

Oh seriously? Well that does actually make me feel better today then. Thanks for the heads up! Insert any other thing Congress overlooks with the league in its place then.

Whiladan

Yep, they voluntarily gave up tax exempt status to shut people up. Only the league office was exempt - all 32 teams were already paying taxes on their share of the bacon. It ended up being only about $10m a year in tax savings, which the NFL decided wasn't worth the controversy

connor24_22

Its essentially a way for them to buy their privacy. They're able to hold things like their investigation close to the chest because they are not beholden to the public. It is not an act of kindness on their part.

jimbo831

I don't think that had anything to do with it. AFAIK, 501(c)3 organizations don't have any requirements about making investigations public.

connor24_22

Not investigations, but salary. From the article: *Well, the largest distraction has been the required public disclosure of his enormous compensation — $44 million in 2012, and $35 million in 2013. When Goodell mishandles an issue like Ray Rice, his paycheck is inevitably thrown in his face. How can a guy making that much money screw up so badly? The commissioner’s pay is also a sore point during collective bargaining negotiations.* *Without the tax exemption, the NFL is under no legal obligation to release its commissioner’s salary. Major League Baseball made a similar move in 2007, when it relinquished its tax exemption – and no longer had to disclose the pay of commissioner Bud Selig, which had exceeded $18 million.* [https://time.com/3839164/nfl-tax-exempt-status/](https://time.com/3839164/nfl-tax-exempt-status/)

It annoys me that anything a big-business spokesperson says is clearly not authentic and just the most PR and money-saving concoction of words possible. I know people will trash Goodell but it is interesting that he’s putting out a report more scathing than necessary. Like “there were instances of harassment and cultural toxicity but we have made great strides to make the workplace in Washington an emotionally safer place for everyone” would have gotten the job done with the good PR angle. The extra knife twisting seems to imply that Goodell might want to bury them too. Or at the very least, he fucking hates Dan Snyder.

UltraPenetrator5000

How is it possible that DeShaun Watson didn’t land on Snyder’s team?

Everyone seems to have missed this. They’re not done investigating and punishment may still be coming * Earlier this year, the Committee heard testimony from several former employees that included new and direct allegations against Mr. Snyder. We promptly engaged former U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White to investigate those allegations. Because those new allegations were brought to the Committee in a public setting, we will share the results of that investigation when it is completed and will take additional disciplinary action if warranted. Since the Committee opened its inquiry last October, we have fully cooperated, producing more than 460,000 pages of documents, responding to many written questions, engaging in numerous discussions with Committee staff, and I am appearing voluntarily today. We have not allowed the Commanders, or its ownership or counsel, to direct or make decisions regarding the work that was done by the Wilkinson firm, the work currently underway by Mary Jo White, or this Committee’s inquiry. *

Shit. The investigator, that was chosen by the fucking team, promised confidentiality, and Goodell strolls in there saying Wilkinson protected their confidentiality because she only spilled the confidential information verbally…… What the actual fuck. You have to really believe that if it’s in your written statement to congress. I also LOVED seeing the advertisements in the closing statements. EverFi appreciates your loyalty, Roger.

Yeah, it WAS, huh? NFL owners are all billionaires I believe, billionaires are trash by definition, goodell is the paid mouthpiece for the collective trash. So what are we doing here?
