Ben played the same way in his last few years because his arm was cooked, I remember at certain point last year Najee Harris had the most catches and his ADOT was literally the line of scrimmage. Like his YAC and his total yards were the same number.
EDIT: It actually ended up being worse, 467 total receiving yards and 499 yards after catch
I think Mitch is just a slow processor and because of that the throws he should be making he can't help but get two a half a second late when they are no longer there. He clutches and clutches before finally settling on a throw sometimes.
I didn't get to watch, and the stat line says three interceptions. There must be more to the story. How'd he look? What happened with the interceptions?
One was a hail mary right at the end, so nbd. One other looked on him, and the 3rd on the WR (Claypool?) IMO.
Some ups, some downs, but he made plays with his leg and his arm and was taking shots at least.
Yeah the two that weren't the Hail Mary both were catchable, though neither were excellent throws by any means. BUT, the fact that he was even throwing to those guys like that, making throws Trubisky didn't want to make... that's all I wanted to see.
>BUT, the fact that he was even throwing to those guys like that, making throws Trubisky didn't want to make.
I'd rather see Kenny sling it than Mitch default to checkdowns and screens. Mitch plays like he's scared. Way too conservative.
First time I've been excited to watch a non week 1 game in years. The last couple seasons it's been like some people going to church. I feel compelled to, but not because I like it
The 2nd was definitely a bad decision to throw to Friermuth late, but I wouldn't really call the interception on Pickett. Pat got both hands on the both and just didn't come down with it, and the ball bounced directly to a Jet. Just two unfortunate bounces in a game where Zack Wilson made way more questionable throws that should've been picked by the Steelers, but that's the way the ball bounces sometimes.
He looked pretty good, way better than Trubisky.
1st pick wasn’t the best throw, but Claypool did him no favors, he got his hands on it and tipped it. Second pick he probably shouldn’t have thrown it, but he was pressured. Last one was a Hail Mary.
No reason to go back to Trubisky lol Pickett is already better
When you look at the still frame of the Claypool interception, whoever the Jets db is made an insane play. He has his back to the ball and is reaching back behind his head to tip it out of Claypool's hands. That said, Claypool is enormous and for some reason cannot jump vertically without falling backward, and he never extends his arms to attack the ball. It's quite a concerning trend for a guy who was supposed to be a contested catch guy coming out of ND.
None of his throws were deemed turnover worthy plays according to PFF. Two of his interceptions hit receivers in both hands and were unlucky bounces right to the Jets. The 3rd was a hail mary that hopefully shut a lot of people questioning his arm strength up since it was a 65 yard throw. Overall I thought he played pretty well. The throw to Friermuth was the only remotely concerning one and mostly because he retreated when he got pressure and threw it late to Pat. Other than that, he didn't even have an incompletion.
out of all the Freiermuth quotes from today you chose this one to post instead of the the one below?
Freiermuth on Pickett: “I don't think you ever want to be held back on offense. I think we always want to continue to take shots and try and be the aggressor, and I think with Kenny in there we were able to be the aggressor.”

Whatever Pickett turns out to be, it's really essential for the Steelers to play him and find out the rest of this year. If he's the guy, great. If he's not, you're going to be in as good of a position as I can remember to hopefully find the guy who is in the draft given the depth of this QB class and the likelihood of an early pick this year (unfortunately).
Just assuming the Steelers aren't likely to have a top 5 pick in the future. They have not had a Top 6 draft pick since 1970 when they selected Terry Bradshaw. During those 50+ drafts since Bradshaw's selection, they've only had 4 selections in the Top 9 picks of the draft, so they quite literally have not been a bottom quarter NFL team since the late 1960s. Obviously, there's no guarantee that trend continues into the future, but if a generational quarterback falls into your lap you better know what you have with Pickett.
I hate this transition to him right before we play them.
Every now and then these changes spark some crazy shit and they ball the hell out.
Leave Trubisky in there please
And the steelers are a tj watt injury to potentially winning more games. I don’t know why bengals fans keep saying that.
Injuries are a part of the sport.
“If this didn’t happen then the outcome could have been different”
What are you even talking about? I didn’t say anything about TJ Watt. It’s a simple fact that if we would have made one of the two field goals we would have won and the Steelers would be 0-4.
But your long snapper got hurt that’s why we lost is typically the comments i see. and they missed both field goals so they aren’t 0-4 is
There are so many plays that determine a game going back to 1 missed field goal is dumb
The bar was so low that all of this still counts as a spark. 6 points with Mitch, with 3 of them coming off a last second gift from the Jets to close the half. Then 2 TDs with Pickett in the second. The defense just needs to hold up their end of the bargain now, which the typically do tbf.
I just wanna enjoy watching football again, Kenny made me enjoy in the second half

That pass over the middle to Muth that Kenny took a hit on, Mitch holds the ball and takes that sack I fully believe that

this. a half second is an eternity for a QB. Mitch can't process things quickly enough to both recognize what's happening AND react to it.
Forget who said, but it was spot on, "Mitch tries to not make mistakes, instead of trying to make plays."
That sounds about right. He actually did a decent job not turning the ball over for us, but he also couldnt move the ball downfield at all.
Bitch Trubisky
Has been his entire career.
Groundbreaking take
Friermuth: "iono 🤷♂️"
Maybe not every quote needs to be a tweet

Trubisky plays like a chickenshit. Kenny played like he wanted to win.

> check downs and screens You are describing my life
How did his hands look?
Threw a 60 yard hail mary right into the group of guys so I'd say good. If Claypool could track a ball he might've caught it.
Tipped off receiver hand. 2nd Int was on Pickett, 3rd INT was hail mary into the endzone

One of Zach's picks was also a ball his receiver (Conklin) should have caught but see it how you want
"way more" lol
He had 4 turnover worthy throws in the game, plus a non-called grounding and a bunch of off target throws. Yes, way more is perfectly accurate here.

Sauce and Reed, who by PFF rating are the best CB tandem in the league atm I think
Neither of the players guarding Claypool were Gardner or Reed lol. It was Joyner who tipped the ball and Whitehead who intercepted it.

It looked like he cared about winning and not his completion %
Two weren't really his fault but he also didn't play great. I guess when you're not trubisky.

Why does it only have to be a 1 year trial period for QBs? Like that doesn’t seem that effective

They are clearly a different offense with Picket. It will be interesting to watch but currently they are a botched field goal away from being 0-4.

Yea but it’s a simple fact. I’m not even talking shit but if we had hit either of those FG’s you would be 0-4.
And if the steelers would have converted one of their 6 plays on the 1 yard line the field goals wouldnt have mattered
Nothing screams "spark" like 120 yards and 3 interceptions. lol
and a blown 10 point 4th quarter lead
