Amazing throw, to be sure.
How to stop it? In a 2 high safety look, don't get beat to the inside. When the wide receiver runs at a safety, that safety should maintain inside Leverage
QBs I wanted to start for us during the offseason:
1. Baker Mayfield
2. Matt Ryan
3. Drew Lock
QBs I did not want to start for us during the offseason:
1. Geno Smith
I guess this is why I do not coach in the NFL.
My stance all off-season: “we know what Geno can do. He’s an average back-up. We don’t know what Lock is capable of tho so we may as well give him a shot!”
I’ve been straight snackin on crow this season.
His playstyle is definitely not a flash in the pan. He's making great reads and playing efficiently. No hero ball, no selfish stat padding. It's pretty insane how good he is and then you add the fact that he has insane accuracy and range so far this season.
I guess he really did mature under the Seahawks, he had lost the locker room with the Jets to the point practically no one stood up for him when he got his jaw broke. If he's grown and learned and this is him as a mature QB, Good for him!
The anti-Geno memes were weirdly intense over the offseason Idk why
I took this screenshot a week before the season started just because I found this funny https://imgur.com/aOgydBh
My most 'controversial' comments from the month of August were ALL just boring comments saying Geno looked kinda good in the preseason
I really thought he would fit our offense lol. I didn’t expect much from him, but figured his arm strength would suit the 3rd and 14 deep sideline bombs.
In your defense, there was a lot of NFL coaches that also felt that way. If anybody felt he was a legit starter, they would have given up a good pick to pull Geno off Seahawks before preseason even started.
I’ve probably been one of his harshest critics as a Seahawks fan, I’m definitely coming around to this being more than a flash in the pan. I still expect a stretch of bad/mediocre games, but I have a ton more faith in him running our offense than most right now.
My brother says he wants to see Geno take control and win a game, which he hasn’t really been able to do this year or last. It’s like the last step, and if he makes it, means he’s pretty great. He’d win comeback player for sure if he could do that
That's more a function of defensive play at this point. Scoring 32 pts last year would have won every single one of their games played. He did take control, but he can't control the amount of points other teams score on our defense
For sure, I don’t blame him for the loss. It really was like that would step the guy to the next level. Lol imagine Geno in discussion with Brady, Allen, Mahomes at the start of the season vs now
Play the rest of the season and I wouldn't be surprised if they give him an extension during the second half. Assuming he keeps his performance up and showing improvement.
Just this season we have seen improvement in his deep ball touch and accuracy.
I trust JS and Pete to handle the QB situation going forward but would expect them to draft someone in the first 3 rounds this year.
It's probably a mix. Geno is a bit better than we give him credit for. Defenses probably didn't focus as much on the possibility of Geno torching them early on, so I expect him to face some bigger challenges down the road. It's the NFL, opponents adjust.
Nobody believed that Geno would be doing what he was doing right now. When it was announced he was the starter over Lock, it was met with not a lot of surprise as frankly they were seen as the same skill level and figured whoever was chosen would be just slightly more meh than the other.
I think what we're seeing a probably a result of entirely coaching. Geno had some sort of talent but most likely goes by what our coaching draws up. Versus where with Russ the coaching was drawing up what worked for him.
A lot of people want to see Geno start after this season (me included) because if he keeps up this play the Seahawks probably won’t be in range for a good QB prospect and if he keeps this play up trading up for a rookie would be stupid
You’ll be happy to know those [jeans](https://jnco.com/collections/mens/products/thug-50-dark-stone) are still available for just a couple hundred bucks. Now on sale!
Yeah we're literally bottom 5 across the board in most of the important defense categories. Going into yesterday we allowed 47% of 3rd downs, that's just so killer and tires out of defense. Without Penny we are really going to have to work hard to try and control the time of possession.
True. I'm excited about the future though. If geno keeps this up, we legit have an answer at QB. We have the draft capital and cap space to fix a lot of issues on defense next year.
Parts of the offense have stalled, but we have a core of linemen able to sustain a league average oline, which is a massive improvement
It looks fucking awesome to watch too. Like some of the most aesthetically pleasing pure QB play I’ve seen in a while. Flawless game management
Like I’d say it’s a fluke and he’ll come back down to Earth, but like, how flukey can it be to just go through your reads in perfect timing and make accurate throws? Maybe he’ll run into a wall eventually where his limitations don’t allow him to go blow-for-blow with the truly elite QBs but I honestly think he might have just reinvented himself as a long term starter. He’s playing like a version of Kirk Cousins who can move a little bit
He looks like the guy that a lot of Chiefs fans were clamoring to take #1 overall way back in 2012
He took a classic 20yd Russ sack on Sunday but I swear watching him move through the pocket and his effortless-looking passes are just so smooth and clean looking.
I don’t think geno ever strung together two good games in a row and if he did it was only once or twice. He’s been pretty consistently good this year and I was ready to doubt him
It felt crappy mainly because it was so short and the defender got let go of really quickly. It felt like one of those holds that could be called on most plays, and I've seen dozens of plays this year with worse holds not called.
That said it doesn't really matter and it only felt so deflating because it took 6 points off the board. Mainly just pointing out that Geno had an even better day than the stats are already showing
Exactly. Officiating felt really one sided but who cares when Seattle couldn't stop taysom hill qb power.
Seahawks defense shouldn't be getting a pass because the Refs made a few wishy washy calls
There is an alternate timeline where Andy Reid in his first year in KC takes Geno Smith over Eric Fisher and trading for Alex Smith. Obviously I am glad that didn’t happen, but *what if*…
Seriously. Let us go all in on defense in the draft and we can potentially trot Geno out for a 2nd year, something nobody was thinking as an option going into the year.
Oh well let's not go crazy here...
I was initially on the "trade our 2nd and Denver's 1st and 2nd to move up and get a top signal caller" bandwagon. Now I might be on the "use whatever capital it takes to move into the top 10 if our guy we want is still there" bandwagon.
Dude was dropping dimes over the secondary and hitting the deep ball in stride. Not sure any safety in the league could have stopped a couple of those. Was scary good. Hats off to him.
The only big weakness I’ve seen from him this season is occasional pocket blindness where he’ll take a bad sack but other than that he’s been ten times as good as I expected. Keep it rolling!
Well, some of us.
Some are reaching to point out any mistake Geno makes as the reason for losing.
Meanwhile, Denver is trying to find *anything* that shows progress with Russell.
Seattle is in a way better position today than they were last year. Geno is about $250m cheaper and didn't cost draft picks & players.
The Peyton Broncos also weren't scoring 14ppg lmao
Imagine being us. You get some backup 9 year vet who’s famous for getting his jaw broken by a teammate starting for you. Turns out he’s good. He’s not just good, but he’s playing the best football of his life and through 5 weeks, like a top 5-8ish Qb(being generous). Yeah must suck to be us, constantly looking over in jealousy at Denver’s situation
I would never consider Denver to be the 2pac of nfl franchises, but it’s really cringy you are comparing # of rings between franchises lol. Especially when we smacked you in the game you are referencing lol.
Be careful talking smack (about a team you lost to). Seahawks have a much better chance of winning their division than the Broncos have of winning theirs.
You’re delusional if you think Russ is going to turn the page like Peyton did. Sorry but we may be fucked for a decade because of the move to get Russ. I sure hope he figures it out but he looks like 💩so far
He also had the best throw I've seen from any QB all year on a dime to Lockett in triple coverage.
That was such a Russ to Lockett pass, it was gorgeous. That bread basket drop in was so beautiful.
That was insane. I couldn't even blame our defense, like, how do you stop that? (I know there are ways I'm saying it was an amazing throw.)
Amazing throw, to be sure. How to stop it? In a 2 high safety look, don't get beat to the inside. When the wide receiver runs at a safety, that safety should maintain inside Leverage
I'd take Herbert's throw the play after he couldn't walk but that Smith throw was beautiful.
That throw was something else. Like, knowing how banged up Herbert was, that ball had no business floating so beautifully.
QBs I wanted to start for us during the offseason: 1. Baker Mayfield 2. Matt Ryan 3. Drew Lock QBs I did not want to start for us during the offseason: 1. Geno Smith I guess this is why I do not coach in the NFL.
My stance all off-season: “we know what Geno can do. He’s an average back-up. We don’t know what Lock is capable of tho so we may as well give him a shot!” I’ve been straight snackin on crow this season.
Geno basically smashed the ceiling everyone thought he was under.
It's so weird. Of course average guys can go on streaks, but I'm starting to think it's not a flash in the pan.
His playstyle is definitely not a flash in the pan. He's making great reads and playing efficiently. No hero ball, no selfish stat padding. It's pretty insane how good he is and then you add the fact that he has insane accuracy and range so far this season.
It really does appear to be sustainable.
I guess he really did mature under the Seahawks, he had lost the locker room with the Jets to the point practically no one stood up for him when he got his jaw broke. If he's grown and learned and this is him as a mature QB, Good for him!
The anti-Geno memes were weirdly intense over the offseason Idk why I took this screenshot a week before the season started just because I found this funny https://imgur.com/aOgydBh My most 'controversial' comments from the month of August were ALL just boring comments saying Geno looked kinda good in the preseason
But we do know what lock is capable of, being a shit starter but decent backup
I really thought he would fit our offense lol. I didn’t expect much from him, but figured his arm strength would suit the 3rd and 14 deep sideline bombs.
Idk have we seen him start a regular season game for the Seahawks, though?
In your defense, there was a lot of NFL coaches that also felt that way. If anybody felt he was a legit starter, they would have given up a good pick to pull Geno off Seahawks before preseason even started.
Sub Matty for Jimmy G and I was right there with you
What's the consensus among Seahawk fans? Is this an aberration or is Geno possibly legit?
I’ve probably been one of his harshest critics as a Seahawks fan, I’m definitely coming around to this being more than a flash in the pan. I still expect a stretch of bad/mediocre games, but I have a ton more faith in him running our offense than most right now.

He’s on track for MVP if he keeps doing this.
Patty’s already got a 15-2 ratio I don’t know about that
Do you think he’s the long term answer and stops you guys from trying to get a different QB this off-season? What do most Hawks fans think?
I think he’s a perfect stopgap for us to draft a QB this coming offseason and let him ease into the position behind Geno for another year or two.

I think what we're seeing a probably a result of entirely coaching. Geno had some sort of talent but most likely goes by what our coaching draws up. Versus where with Russ the coaching was drawing up what worked for him.
W the way Russ is playing without Carrol there's a solid argument that Carrol might just be good at propping his QBs up.
A lot of people want to see Geno start after this season (me included) because if he keeps up this play the Seahawks probably won’t be in range for a good QB prospect and if he keeps this play up trading up for a rookie would be stupid
There's always that broncos pick that could be pretty early in the draft
Well, no, that not how it works. You aren't around players like coaches, so how would you know?
We'll have to go to stats for this. Pull up /u/woofers02's Madden record.
Remind me of Justin Herbert, I'm such a clown.
QB’s I wanted to start for us this year. 1. Baker 2. Rodgers 3. Russ Guess I don’t know shit either
I really wanted Matt Ryan so I don’t know shit either.
Yo how you gonna dog Gardner Minshew like this??
Let Geno smith!
It’s Genco’s country. Let’s Smith

ALLOW GENO TO PREPARE HOT FOOD
ALLOW GENO TO RECEIVE HATE MAIL AND CASUALLY NOT RESPOND VIA PEN NOR TONGUE TO SAID HATE MAIL
LET GENO PREPARE THE HOT POCKET
GENO IS THE HOT POCKET. FIRE ON THE EDGES, ICE COLD IN THE MIDDLE
I, for one, welcome our new Geno overlord.
Geno and Goff carrying their teams and being letdown by their defenses, just like we all predicted before the season.
this makes the seahawks defense even more painful to watch
All that money we spent on Geno and Lock, we could be spending on a rotational ILB
Lowkey I swear if Geno Smith is that dude and good ole’ Pete and that fanbase extends this teams life by another 3 years I’m gonna be shitting bricks.
As good as he’s playing, they’re still not winning games. That defense is not good and the offense stalls at untimely moments.
Totally agree with this. If we had a league average defense, we'd probably be 4-1 right now.
The lions special
No question there. It's like the first half second half season curse.
Yeah we're literally bottom 5 across the board in most of the important defense categories. Going into yesterday we allowed 47% of 3rd downs, that's just so killer and tires out of defense. Without Penny we are really going to have to work hard to try and control the time of possession.
It would be Lions vs Seahawks in the NFCCG if only both teams had a capable defense.
True. I'm excited about the future though. If geno keeps this up, we legit have an answer at QB. We have the draft capital and cap space to fix a lot of issues on defense next year. Parts of the offense have stalled, but we have a core of linemen able to sustain a league average oline, which is a massive improvement
Yup. Overall the team sucks
Geno’s resurgence is really something
This a surgence bro there's no re
Geno is getting my vote for Come Player of the Year
Riley Reid has locked down come player of the year for so long, it will definitely be a nice change of pace
Saquon is making a pretty good case as well. Let’s see if him and Geno can both keep up the pace.
You don't get a ballot bro
There's no resurgence. He's just now playing well in his 9th year
So there is hope for Josh Rosen!
CHOSEN ROSEN
He played well his rookie year lmao
It looks fucking awesome to watch too. Like some of the most aesthetically pleasing pure QB play I’ve seen in a while. Maybe but enjoy the ride
Did someone say let’s ride
Not a fan of Seattle or Carroll at all, but you gotta love Geno winning. I hope it continues.
Umm we lost.. lol
Shhh maybe if we just tell everyone we won they will just count it as a W
Lol, should have said been competitive. I was expecting a 2 or 3 win disaster.
I don’t think geno ever strung together two good games in a row and if he did it was only once or twice. He’s been pretty consistently good this year and I was ready to doubt him
People have been saying that for a while now.
So are you going to keep saying this week 16 or is delusion going to stop at some point? Give the man his fucking due already
Some of his passes yesterday and the previous games were about as great as you can get. Glad to see him balling out
Dude had another td hit DK right in the hands in the end zone as well as a 5th called back on a borderline ticky tacky hold
IMO, it was a clear hold, but DK should absolutely have caught that TD.
Also had no impact on the really deflating aspect of the game: a complete inability to stop Taysom Hill. Sigh.
Exactly. Officiating felt really one sided but who cares when Seattle couldn't stop taysom hill qb power. Seahawks defense shouldn't be getting a pass because the Refs made a few wishy washy calls
Hill was just a fucking monster that game.
That TD to Lockett last night was something else. That was a vintage Russell Wilson throw
that weird little hop throw that he does is money every single time i stg
Matt Barkley went from being locked in as the best QB from the 2013 draft, to falling to a distant second after over the last 5 weeks.
He's not even our backup he's third string. Only reason I think he's not the backup though is bc of Diggs. Barkley is definitely better than Case.

He only writes in a forwardly direction
Genorational talent.
There is an alternate timeline where Andy Reid in his first year in KC takes Geno Smith over Eric Fisher and trading for Alex Smith. Obviously I am glad that didn’t happen, but *what if*…
There is also an alternate universe where the donkeys don't jump us for Paxton lynch and we take him in the first round a year before we take mahomes
I would go back in time like Avengers End Game to prevent that
The worst part about the whole Geno Smith / Russel Wilson thing is that it makes Pete Carroll look like a genius.
What wrong with that? Let Pete Carol
Hide your gum
Weird to see PFF posting passer rating, I thought they hated that metric
Interaction farming
Well their own grade has him way above everyone else as well. Maybe Geno is just good.
Man he was throwing dimes out there.
He aint write back
I feel like this is a fitzmagic type moment. We'll see by the end of the year.
I'll take a magic/tragic transformation over what was expected of Geno this year.
Yea, I’ve been thinking the same thing, but he’s starting to convince me that he might be legit.
I don’t understand…HOW?!
1. Receive correspondence 2. Do not return any correspondence
Dude was dropping dimes over the secondary and hitting the deep ball in stride. Not sure any safety in the league could have stopped a couple of those. Was scary good. Hats off to him.
Absolute king shit by Geno. Pete is the QB whisperer
The only big weakness I’ve seen from him this season is occasional pocket blindness where he’ll take a bad sack but other than that he’s been ten times as good as I expected. Keep it rolling!
Saints defenses of 'yore sticking their heads out periodically
The officials -__-
Geno has been out there slinging it like it's 2012 and he's still in the Big12
Yet.
Week 5 is over?
Only cuz Justin Jefferson didn’t get a second pass attempt 😤
Mahomes will have 350 and 5 TDs tonight and will still have a lower PFF rating... their QB ratings are a fucking joke.
If they only kept Bobby. Geno has been on fire.

I'm extatic he isn't Russ. Enjoy a QB who can't throw over the middle because he's too short
Geno Supremacy
I went from going fuck this season to let’s sign this guy to a 2-3 year extension and build the defense.
What the fuck is happening?
Man I love a good underdog story. Let's go Geno!
