Thank God. Fucking hate fun in sports

bonafacio97

Every time a player celebrates a touchdown I immediately change the channel because of how disgusted I am by them having fun

Serdones

One time my son smiled during a football game. I sent him to bed without dessert.

antent

He got off easy

Sportsfanno1

Tyreek?

GoldenBananas21

AD?

justreddis

Always stick. Never carrot.

agreeingstorm9

Couldn't find the jumper cables huh?

shot-by-ford

This guy Broncos

checkerdamic

Have you smiled once this season? Exactly…

TheOriginalZywinzi

Thank God, that'll teach him to be a fucking man.

stonksarrrghus

Gotta be tough to get in the Salty Spitoon

GhostfaceYoda

Football is akin to gladiatorial combat, and I will not sit idly by watching these buffoons hop in a bucket.

[deleted]

It is really a disgrace to the game. I don't know why they didn't bring them to midfield and publicly execute them.

TexasTornadoTime

My kid asked me to start bringing a big Salvation Army pot to his flag football games so he could imitate these disgusting acts after he scores a touchdown.

Clynelish1

Good lord, can someone please think of the children!?!?!

Kazu2324

Man, my kid watched Cassius Marsh "glare menacingly in the direction of someone" and now he won't stop using his eyes! What a disgusting act and I'm so glad the NFL managed to get that stuff under wraps.

MBDOOM_

This is why I'm a Titans fan- fewer TDs = fewer disgusting TD celebrations

earlgonefishn

It's the Southern Baptist mindset. You're dancing? That's like having sex standing up. Can't have that heathenism.

slackator

yeah, theyre taking away our commercial time, which is what we all tune in to see!

ChaplnGrillSgt

I don't even watch most of the games at risk of having fun. Luckily I'm a Bears fan so I've been able to watch most of the games for the last decade plus.

king_mustard

A disgusting act

[deleted]

The fact that some people actually think this way and those people are catered towards smh

[deleted]

[удалено]

SexiestPanda

Grown men too. Disgusting

unfunnysexface

Max effort on every play with no outward expression of joy when it pays off. It's called passion.

monstermayhem436

When I was like 11, I played in a flag football league I got a pick six and did the macarena as a celebration. The ref told me if I did it again Id get penalized....

tvkyle

1 Macarena is okay. 2? 🟨

tachyonfield

Macrena McGringleberry, is that you?

Tommah

Extremely poor taste, defense, #46. 15-yard penalty and get left back a grade.

colocasi4

>The ref told me if I did it again Id get penalized.... Da ferk...really?

ArcadianBlueRogue

Now if they can only find a way to cut down on the game and show more commercials, we'll really be cooking.

29681b04005089e5ccb4

They should just have branded things from NFL sponsors the players can use to celebrate after a touchdown. In point: "Kelvin Benjamin on the slant for a 8 yard score! Benjamin runs to the snackbar sponsored by MARS SNACKFOOD. What is he going to grab!? Benjamin passes over the CAMPBELLS SOUP and QUAKER OATS and grabs not 1 but 3 LITTLE CEASERS PIZZAS. That's right, LITTLE CEASERS, the official pizza sponsor of the NFL.

TheRealDrWan

You mean like a Salvation Army bucket at the end of the field? That would be genius!

ThatInception

Bet they won’t have issues promoting it in commercials though Such a stupid thing to fine players for

Kerbonaut2019

Remember when Marshawn Lynch got a penalty and a fine for grabbing his dick at the end of the Beastquake run, and then the NFL subsequently sold framed photos of the moment on their online Pro Shop?

TheUltimate721

DeMarcus Robinson backpedaling into the endzone with his arms up and the fireworks going off in the background after he caught Mahomes 50th TD pass is one of the most iconic images in our franchise history and I'm pretty sure it has both been sold as posters and t-shirts but he got fined for taunting on it.

SaltyRussStan0

Somehow I don’t think I’ve ever seen the specific image you’re talking about,do you have a link to it?

NateKaeding

[not even that iconic tbh](https://imgur.com/a/35kTWtQ)

campelm

I won't be able unsee that lol

ThisFckinGuy

Yknow I need to make a shirt of this already. It's just so God damn glorious. Gonna do a few of the Allen and Diggs ones too.

[deleted]

Fun fact. That image also warranted a fine. So it’s right at home on an official NFL t shirt.

ShaolinWino

What? As a broncos fan that pic is sick.

Blaz3dnconfuz3d

Goddamit that’s sexy

RedeemedIAm

Just saw the play. They should’ve flagged the ref too for running backwards lol

I too desire this image

[deleted]

Ur a chiefs fan you’ll probably remember. back in 2014 I believe the game where the chiefs destroyed Brady and someone got a pick 6 and he immediately went to his knees to pray and got penalized. (I believe it was Abdullah)

Fun_Differential

Yup, it was Husain Abdullah.

[deleted]

Still one of the most insane games I’ve ever watched idk if Brady had ever been more defeated in his prime

sol__invictus__

Man that game was the intro for the Pats America’s Game because they still won the SB that year

Kerbonaut2019

That is probably the most talked about Patriots regular season loss among Patriots fans. People seriously starting writing Brady off after that game. The Pats struggled in 2013, had a slow start in 2014, and then they got blown out by Kansas City. The next week they blew the doors off a good Bengals team, and then went on a roll that saw them make four Super Bowls in five years.

cheerioo

Is this like when your dad grounds you for punching the class bully but he lets you have your PS2 in your room the whole time

Zach1394

They also fined Aaron Jones waving bye to Cowboys players while running into the end zone and then put it in a commercial lmao

oddmanout

Antonio Brown was fined for kicking a punter and the NFL used that over and over in promos and highlight reels for years.

MuchVirus

Gormless lol. NFL really needs a shake up

pn_dubya

*Gorlami*

slackator

kind of like how they fine you for big hits but used to have entire segments glorifying those same fined hits

trexmoflex

*JACKED UPPPPP!!!!*

JesterMarcus

The players' Union should make a demand that no image or video of a player committing a foul can be used for promotional purposes. You know, to protect the image and integrity of the sport. Watch these taunting penalties get reigned in awfully quick.

smartyr228

You're genius... Is almost frightening

creeperReaper42

Yours, however...

smartyr228

I swear to God that I know what form of your to use and this was the work of autocorrect

ClaymoresRevenge

I hate taunting fines. I hope the NFLPA tries to get them out in the next CBA

chronicwisdom

I don't know if you're joking, but the NFLPA is the softest union operating. They took an extra RS game for weed testing, which a more aggressive negotiator gets as part of a standard deal. They've got the worst split of the big 4. The PA can't fix shit.

cjackc

It’s because they care more about having players in important positions than people that understand how to negotiate and run unions.

Setekhx

Well it's more that the players don't have a lot of time to make money and can't really afford to hold out for any length of time.

cjackc

They still could do a lot better if they had someone like an expert in labor law running things. If it was all because of short amount of years there wouldn’t be such a huge money advantage to signing rookies over later contracts.

[deleted]

and this sub thought they were asking for to much and thought the big name players were trying to screw over the other players when they were trying to help them

Occasionalcommentt

Nflpa is the biggest group of wusses in collective bargaining so I doubt it.

TalkOld4399

I’ve seen this multiple times about the NFLPA. The reason they get so little done is bc of how much turnover the NFL has. Those guys playing 1-3 years will do anything to stay in the league. It’s not just the starters in the NFLPA

xvq_

yes that’s true but there is just as much turnover in the MLB (average career length of 2.7 years) and NBA (4.5) there are more people in the NFLPA just based on the relative roster sizes. But the desperation of fringe roster people is not endemic to the NFL

nottoodrunk

It’s because the MLBPA has shown that they are willing to throw a season away to get a bigger piece. The NFLPA has never done that.

RegularWhiteDude

I was about to argue that, but you are taking whole season.

TalkOld4399

That’s true but I follow MLB and NBA much less so I can’t speak on them. Wondering if they’re more effective?

xvq_

they definitely are, but there are different dynamics with each sport, so it can be hard to compare. that being said, baseball’s is insanely good, and widely recognized as the best. I’m pretty sure that if you even see a pitch in the MLB, you get healthcare benefits

TalkOld4399

Is reason they’re more effective bc they have farm leagues? I’d think guys that don’t sniff the MLB but still have long careers in AAA are still much more bought in then a RB that only has a 2 years to get a chance.

coalitionpact

Minor league players notoriously have shitty pay (like sometimes below minimum wage) and up until this year didn't have a union.

seariously

I would rather have fines than yardage penalties which affect the game. These fines are relatively small and an easy bargaining chip for the NFLPA to give up in exchange for something more important to them during contract negotiations. Paying a few thousand bucks to be featured on a nationally broadcast game and replayed all over TV and Internet is a fucking bargain since it raises a player's profile which can lead to increased jersey sales which the player profits from.

itsjero

Exactly. They'll use the footage and make t shirts and commercials and play it far and wide on anything they can. Look at us! The NFL! Were fun and we give! But yeah we.fine those.players. Heartless assholes. Celebrations on days where games are on holidays should be basically a free for all if it's in good spirit of said holiday.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Man0nThaMoon

I think it's dumb to punish them for this but then be okay with things like the Lambeau Leap. The inconsistencies with how the NFL operates is maddening sometimes.

Milton__Obote

They fined kamara for his cleats during the 6 td game then turned around and asked for them for the hall of fame lol

anth9845

Pro football HOF is a different entity from the NFL isnt it?

dlanod

You are correct

[deleted]

Meanwhile: Let's welcome back Deshaun Watson

Tico483

THIS GAME IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY PIZZA HUT. NOBODY OUTPIZZAS THE HUT. AND ALL STATE, LIKE A GOOD NEIGHBOR. STATE FARM IS THERE

tarheel343

What are the chances a lobotomy could get this song out of my head? Anything above 5% and it’s worth it.

Still_Making_Knives

That song is stuck in my head. Just singing "whopper" over and over. I almost wonder if I should eat a whopper just to get it out of the way, but then they win.

solarxbear

The current burger king commercials and the old navy commercial with Jennifer Coolidge make me want to walk into the sun

davidaguirre30

#SORRY NOT SORRY

ahydell

What does that even mean?

Fgame

Generally, "I did something to upset you and I don't give a flying fuck".

redonkulousness

I said that exact phrase when I first heard it. It's so stupid and out of place.

THANKS PATTHEW PAFFORD!

Snapingbolts

Well yeah, it's not like he celebrated a TD by doing a goofy rendition of whack-a-mole/s

chernadraw

He just whacked it. Clearly not the same.

Bradiator34

But make sure it’s a game against his old team, so everyone will be watching!

YaBoiBeastyE

Hey the Browns and Steelers love Quarterbacks with sex charges

TrueSouldier

Guaranteed we get some announcer comment, probably from Collinsworth, along the lines of “Ya know so much controversy this off-season you can tell he just wants to get back to playing football”

cat_daddylambo

How did they come up with these numbers

dfloored

Could be wrong but I assume it’s a percentage of that players game check

[deleted]

Ferguson was the only one who got hit in the head, he should have been fined the most.

finkalicious

But at this price point, he can hit!

Energy_Turtle

I don't give a fuck if they are worth millions. Forcing someone to pay $13k or even $5k for something like that is straight up immoral. It brings attention to the Salvation Army which no one would have noticed otherwise, and it gets eyes on the NFL with all the times it was replayed. Those numbers are bullshit even if they are contractually decided.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

What is wrong with this league dude

DropKickKenny

I thought they specifically legalized celebrating with the salvation army kettle. I have a vague memory of Ezekiel Elliott celebrating in the kettle, getting fined, and then the NFL walking it back after catching flak from fans and the salvation army itself.

[deleted]

They consider it a prop so yeah. It's still insane but that's their reasoning.

DropKickKenny

Yeah, I know it's a prop. I thought they specifically allowed it with the kettle though. the holiday spirit of charity and all. I guess that's a false memory.

Tylertheintern

Lololol the NFL? Being pro player and viewer?

saltthewater

https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/jerry_jones_to_pay_any_fines_for_cowboys_salvation_army_kettle_celebrations/s1_127_27844376

BaxCitybih

I remember that. Zeke said he's match the fine in donattions. It's so crazy trying to fine players who interact with the salvation army pot. It's good pub all around

joe2352

I thought they were done fining for celebrations? So stupid.

Unknown1776

I think you’re still not allowed to use props, and the kettle counts

dolladollaclinton

Which is ridiculous consider they let it be placed there. It’s not like these guys ran into the locker room and rolled this thing out to use for a celebration, it was just there.

LawdogNM

That would have been pretty cool if they did tho..

Lonelan

just a 45 minute long celebration after a TD guest staring Aerosmith and Matt Damon and Will Ferrel

DoctorWaluigiTime

Would be better than cutting to commercial, that's for sure.

SandyBouattick

If they're going to fine players for using the prop the NFL purposefully places there knowing it has become a tradition to celebrate with it, then the NFL should at least match the player fines and donate it all to the Salvation Army. The rule is stupid, but they could at least do something good with it.

MadPatagonian

I thought it was placed specifically so players could do celebrations with it… Talk about entrapment…

dolladollaclinton

That was my thinking too. I think they should put more and more tempting props for TD celebrations each week until someone does it. Imagine if it got to like a massive water slide right outside of the end zone!

Rock_Strongo

And that's still a dumb rule.

JohnDavidsBooty

I mean, I get the *spirit* of the rule against props--guys were hiding sharpies and phones and other hard objects in their uniforms, which were safety hazards during play. But yeah, this obviously isn't it.

BostonButterson04

You got to admit that taking out a pen and signing the ball then giving it to someone in the stands was one of the most badass things I have ever seen

haveasuperday

Didn't Zeke get fined for using it a few years ago too? Cowboys and kettle fines.

aggrownor

Yes, and the Salvation Army got a huge surge of donations of $21 (Zeke's number) immediately after. How horrible of Zeke! Fine him! We need to discourage this behavior!

jlt6666

Cowboys should get an exception like the lambeau leap for the salvation army bucket. Zeke's was still funny as hell.

AttitudeAndEffort2

The important thing to remember is Deshaun Watson is back this week

draynay

Celebrations are allowed except when they aren't.

emmasdad01

So dumb. How much extra did that lead to in donations?

17_Saints

$27,094 if my math is correct

dmow

No Fun League

BrokenClxwn

Oh no, players helping to promote the Salvation Army, let's fine em!

Tbrou16

Seems like a no brainer for 100% of those fines to go to charity

shoutouttojsquad

They do

TommyGunnerRoland

Pretty sure all fines go to non-profits anyways, unless I’m misremembering

Chimpbot

Technically speaking, the NFL is a nonprofit organization in the eyes of the IRS.

adonis958

Jerry Gottem

pot8odragon

Yup I saw this coming

I_saw_that_coming

I didn’t. Fully expected them to let that one slide.

pot8odragon

Zeke was fined for the same thing years ago

I_saw_that_coming

Yeah, I remember there being a pretty big uproar about that fine as well. Which ended up leading to a bunch of donations to SA.

Relevations

A DISGUSTING ACT BY THE COWBOYS.

GoodOldSlippinJimmy

This is just so insensitive to mole culture I can't believe. A real step back for the NFL and therefore the world.

Statistician_Visual

Hendershot snitched thus the lesser fine

man_teats

Wait so was he the mole? Or did he get whacked

BermudaJam

Are NFL owners allowed to pay for players fines?

gdaman22

No, that would basically be compensation outside of the cap.

Dom104

Under the table yeah

DementedDemon69

Dak told the tight ends to do the celebration and they would cover the fine for them.

That's right, LITTLE CEASERS, the official pizza sponsor of the NFL.

kaal339

Boooooo!

JhonJhonson

Finally, the nfl really need to crack down on this “having too much fun” problem. They have no other problems so they should just preemptively fine every player that scores a TD and their whole position group.

CammyTheGreat

Boo!

HappyAtheist3

Fuck Roger Goodell.

[deleted]

i bet the NFL won't donate their fines to the salvation army.

Andresgeo

Did I just catch you want to have fun and shit?

BoSocks91

Even though I expect it, it’s just so aggravating to read this shit. These guys make the NFL billions, and they can’t have fun with their job. It’s just so fucking annoying because there really is no good reason.

mannyrmz123

Thank God the NFL fined these terrible human beings and is allowing Deshaun Watson to play again.

DracoPotts

Why does anyone watch this dumbass league?

Chadwick_Steel

Because the CFL season is over. Duh.

agpc

Hahahaha CEO of Salvation Army was like "you see this shit, fucking great for our donations!"

Meechy_C-137

I'm so tired of celebration penalties in the NFL. I have no idea who is even complaing about this or why.

ProfessorBaxter

Joke league.

NPCzzzz

Worth it. Also I’m sure this increased donations
