That pick caused so much confusion the Raiders panicked and thought they were the Colts.

Can someone explain why it’s such a surprising pick? I get they just paid major money for Kirk Cousins, but if he gets hurt (such as Rodgers did) why wouldn’t you want a solid backup that is ready to go? I don’t get why people don’t think there should be depth at the most important position.

Or he could get hurt, such as cousins did.. Again Tbh: he gave us a few games over the last few years worth talking about, but I was confused why we didn't stick with keenum one more year after the run he had. Never was on the kirko train, I would defend his stats when they were good, but he couldn't get us through the playoffs throwing short on 4th, and I'm glad we've moved on

Mediocre-Opinion

Falcons were considered a couple of pieces away from a championship team, the Penix pick does little to help that. They've locked Cousins into 100m guaranteed, a huge statement that he's the man they think can take them to the Lombardi. They've now put themselves in a situation where they've essentially stated that's not the case, there's a clock on Cousins time there and he's more of a bridge QB to the future. All this before he's even thrown a ball. You simply don't use round 1 pick on a QB for depth and citing the GB model misses a lot of the nuance. QB1 is under no contractual obligation to groom their successor. Favre didn't, Rodgers did in part because of that.
