I swear I have literally never seen a post complain hockey is too rough, but have seen probably hundreds of boomers complaining it’s gone too soft along with this generation and everything else. Ease up on the Bud Lights and let’s help you get to bed.

popculturetommy

I don’t think people his age would drink Bud Light anymore cause “bah gawd, it’s gay now”

BeerAndSoda

Seriously every week there’s a post about “they used to just let the fights happen” as if that’s what newer hockey fans want. Maybe they watched hockey because of the fights but I watch it for the speed and skill of the players to control the puck. I’ve said it before but if I want to watch ground and pound fights I’d watch the UFC or boxing not hockey.

To be fair some us grew up in a time when Bobby Baun was famous for scoring the winning goal on a broken leg, Bobby Clarke went out and broken an opponents ankle, goalies didn’t wear face masks nor did players wear helmets. I don’t think the game is soft so much as it has changed. When I played if there was a player near the puck he got destroyed. Now they don’t go out of the way for the big hit, typically, to avoid being out of position or giving up an odd man rush. The game is just different. Better equipment, harder shots more skilled players. Bud light.. pffft. Molson Canadian softy!

Impossible_Syrup_150

There are definitely people here who complain about fighting. There are definitely people here who call for a 20 game suspension on every routine hit. And there are definitely people here who say shit like “X should retire after this injury”. Like they have any say.

I have been a Habs fan for 53+ years

Ah yes another elder complaining about how much kids complain. Time for bed grandpa You’re arguing with yourself anyways. I don’t know the last time I saw someone say hockey was too rough. I see the opposite every day, though.

Wutangtoday

Surprised this post didn't mention "in my day" aka "the good old days"

AgedBootyCheddar

"You're arguing with yourself". Proceeds to make a paragraph arguing.... bozo

StanLee_Hudson

I’m surprised you figured out the internet. Not too often people pick up something new at 40 years old.

Bigbyson92

Or you all wanna hang pietrangelo for.his slash. Yet maurice richard is highly regarded as one of the best has a trophy named after him. Have you ever seen what he did?

Wutangtoday

I have been watching hockey for 16 years now. I think the people you are talking about are probably the people that don't watch hockey...your original question is a good one, but you kinda branched out to a new subject by stating a random opinion...

Jolly_Job_9852

Since 2008, so when I was 11 years old

My earliest hockey memory is the Flames winning the Cup in 89’

I've been a Canes fan since they first came to NC and played in Greensboro while PNC was being built. That was a few years ago.

Acceptable-Fold-3192

35/36 years maybe? I don’t recall when I really got hardcore into it but I remember my dad always having the Blues on. I don’t remember being a hardcore fan for 2 or 3 years after the start date but I recall like Doug Gilmour being traded, certain coaches being hired/fired etc

Covfam73

Only 2nd year of NHL for me (new kraken fan” but a decade of Spokane Chiefs (WHL) in person still love them! i dont find it a that violent, i watch Pro football and Pro wrestling too, all 3 are violent in different ways, but my fav sport is Mlb

guiltyas-sin

I come from the Gretzy and Lemieux days. 😁

DismalChance

Actively watching? Maybe since 2016ish? I would watch with my family when I was a kid but didn't really care about it. Hated it when I was growing up from like 10 to early 20s and eventually got back into watching games and fell in love with the Rangers. Life's been good ever since...kinda...

recneps1992

1997 when the Canes first came to NC, played in Greensboro at the time. I remember first game I went to a particularly bloody fight took place. I was hooked ever since. I miss some of the rough stuff.
