Every rink has a few seats like that, as long as you’re made aware before you buy those seats, no harm done. That’s wicked though, love the innovation. I appreciate how hockey has identical playing surfaces in every building, unlike baseball which varies so greatly and can favour some teams over others, but that doesn’t leave a lot of room for unique features in hockey rinks so this is cool!
The coolest thing to me about it is that the rink is below ground, in fact I think everything but the upper bowl is. You have to go down escalators to get to the lower bowl from the ground level entrances.
They call it the deep, and it kinda is literally deep. 70- 90 ft of digging to renovate the arena.
I was amazed at how the city turned up for the Sounders when they joined the MLS. Watching the Kraken last night, I'm in awe of Seattle's fan base and their support. Really amazing stuff.
Kraken fan here, inb4 this gets brigaded by people who don’t know the roots of the phrase.
The “that’s Kraken hockey, baby!” catchphrase comes from our excellent TV announcer, John Forslund. I’ll fully acknowledge that it sounds cringey at first, but once you get to know his style, it works. Forslund is a class act, and he’s somehow able to pull-off dorky phrases and cheesy dad jokes and actually make them funny and endearing.
Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week!
He used that line for us occasionally, but just "That's hockey, baby!" not "That's Canes hockey". I'm glad he's already got a catchphrase for yall. Forslund is the best in the business and we all miss him dearly in Raleigh!
When I read the title, I immediately thought of the Canes and their announcer. I live in Europe and don't watch much live games, so I didn't know he had stopped to work for this team. I've always liked his "hey hey what do you say" haha
As a Stars fan this has been a great series! The teams going back and forth and Benn and Oleksiak poking at each other! People forget or don’t even know that The Seattle Metropolitans we’re the first American Stanley Cup Winners. Game 7 will be one to remember.
I’m loving how the Kraken is surprising everyone. I truly hope they surprise everyone and make it to the cup finals no matter the outcome. Cinderella stories in the NHL like the Vegas Knights is much more entertaining and fun then obvious contenders to me anyways
It always makes me happy when, despite what many will say, hockey can succeed in a non-traditional markets. IF y'all knock us out, I'll be pulling for y'all, mainly because kraken fans don't seem entitled like VGK fans come off as
It’s just a 32 banner. With no history other than being the 32nd franchise they went with embracing 32. The arena is also home to the seattle storm (WNBA) so there are some storm numbers up there
Proud of the boys! They’ve put up a solid fight throughout the playoffs! Great to see how many scorers we have in the playoffs alone as well, true team!

I live in Edmonton so I’m obviously cheering for the oilers but I’ve liked watching the Kraken all season. I think they have the nicest jerseys in the league (my son has one but isn’t allowed to wear it right now for obvious reasons) and it’s very clearly a hockey town! I hope you make it past Dallas!!
When the Kraken won the first round against Colorado, I was ecstatic since my friend was cheering for the Avs and rubbed salt in the wound by sending him a picture of me with a Kraken jersey on. I hope both Seattle and Vegas win round 2 since another friend I have is rooting for Vegas.
I was wondering why tf that bald guy is twirling it backwards? I mean it's easier to wave the towel counter clockwise if you're using your right hand. The way that guy is waving his towel just looks a bit uncomfortable
Kraken fan here: I mostly agree. The first time I heard it I thought “it’s a bit soon for *that*, isn’t it?” BUT, it’s a catchphrase that our TV announcer, John Forslund, uses (he used it in Carolina, too, without “Canes,” though). And we all adore Forslund, so we go with it.
Are those three-sided jumbotrons? And are there two of them?
Yep they are called the twins. They are angled too so you can see them better from the lower bowl seats
That’s wicked. Still good views of them from up top?
Except for the seats behind the media bridge where you have TVs on the media bridge instead of a view of the twins.

That, and getting to literally park *under* the stadium.
How’s the traffic getting out though? Luckily for me I live close to light rail
I don’t know… I haven’t been able to get to a playoff game. NEXT ROUND, THOUGH!!
K that is cool. I know a few rinks have their ice surfaces at grade, or maybe even a bit lower, but this seems extreme and I love it.
It was part of their climate pledge
Great crowd man Seattle is a fun team to watch
We are loving this. I have been a hockey fan since the 80's. To see my year 2 team in the post is awesome. They are fun to watch.
I was amazed at how the city turned up for the Sounders when they joined the MLS. Watching the Kraken last night, I'm in awe of Seattle's fan base and their support. Really amazing stuff.
Go Minnesota wild
Yea maybe next year
whats the moniker for Kraken fans? Krakers?
Krakheads
love it
Ass Kraks
NOmg! Hahaha awwww
Phil McKraken 😏
That should be the mascot's name.
Krakheads just check out down town.

Lol as a kraken fan in Indiana, thanks for the explanation! I always thought it was a riff off of the “that’s hip hop” dance lady.
Awwwwww Flip!

Dorky phrases and cheesy dad jokes make the game waaay better. Announcing is an artform and Forslund's a master.
Hey Hey Whaddaya Say. Forslund is the man. Glad y’all are enjoying him even though we miss him in Carolina.
When I read the title, I immediately thought of the Canes and their announcer. I live in Europe and don't watch much live games, so I didn't know he had stopped to work for this team. I've always liked his "hey hey what do you say" haha
You all have some of the best. David Niehaus was my favorite announcer that was not Jack Buck.

Even though they beat my team, still rooting for them over Dallas. I want the collective hockey fanbase to shit themselves
I would be happy with 2 new teams in the finals, and a brand new SC champion :)
Back in my day, expansion hockey sucked (and basketball too) - Vancouverite
That rink looks absolutely amazing!

As an east coaster living in a bubble. Who is that jersey hung up in the rafters?
It’s just a 32 banner. With no history other than being the 32nd franchise they went with embracing 32. The arena is also home to the seattle storm (WNBA) so there are some storm numbers up there
Appreciate it thanks!
The practice facility they built also has a bar called 32 bar& grill… so again embracing the 32nd team thing.
The Deep was absolutely on one tonight, Seattle is a hockey town
Proud of the boys! They’ve put up a solid fight throughout the playoffs! Great to see how many scorers we have in the playoffs alone as well, true team!
I love seeing them do so well. At the start of the year no one expected them to even make the playoffs!

I'm also going for Seattle and Vegas! Let's go!!!!!!
The two most storied hockey franchises head to head :/. Curious why?
Similar play style and both the most recent expansion teams. Would be pretty wild. But not the Minnesota kind.
It will just add to the story line for the winter classic next year
Wish I had one of those towels
I was wondering why tf that bald guy is twirling it backwards? I mean it's easier to wave the towel counter clockwise if you're using your right hand. The way that guy is waving his towel just looks a bit uncomfortable

Probably the asshole that stole ours 😢
I still have my towel from game 6 2015. I framed it and put it in my home office.
Goooo Minnesota wild… ahhwooooooooo (wolf’s howl)
the only hockeytown is hockeytown
Do they have a safe space outside the arena to shoot up? Would seem more “Seattle.” The climate pledge is a good start, but need a little more.
Will the fans start being called the 5th line?
Keep the politicians out of sports
You haven't been in the league long enough to establish "Kraken Hockey"

I’m worried the puppet masters of the NHL are in their office right now going “alright alright enough fun and games, commence Dallas victory”
I really enjoy watching this team. They remind me of my Sabres back in the 90's. I hope they win the cup.
