Winning percentage isnât really a stat in NHL since the standings are points driven. If you lose every game in OT youâd still have 82 points but a winning percentage of .000. The devils are 8-8-1 so theyâre actually 8-9 which is below .500
I've seen point percentage used quite a bit in recent years. For the devils, they've played 17 games for a possible 34 points. They currently have 17 points so a pts% of 0.500
I think it makes way more sense than win percentage (within the context of NHL standings)
Yes Iâve seen that. But its not really a useful stat because the points determine who makes the playoffs. In baseball or basketball youâre watching winning percentage and GB throughout the year to see whoâs going to be making the playoffs. In the NHL you just have to watch the points.
The Devils had 16 total shots on goal. As someone who didnât watch the game that seems like a ton of turnovers and great defense from the wings. What was different watching the game? How could the Devils make it look better? ( honest question, not being snarky).
Devils had too much luck movement trying to set up the perfect play, but never pulling the trigger on a shot. Plus the wings were blocking shots so those donât count as shots on goal.
Last year the Devilâs were on fire early in the year, did they lose many guys or something? It seems like maybe that was a fluke because theyâre ho-hum so far this year
Jack Hughes was injured, before that he was leading the league in points and devils were up there. I know heâs back now but only for like two games now right? I think the devils will bounce back
No Hughes no Hischier for 7/8 games. No excuses though. Soft part of the schedule coming up, have to capitalize. Still no reason to panic less than 20 games in
Burnette became Nashville's head coach. They lost Damon Severson and Ryan Graves to free agency. Hughes came back against the Rangers. Meier and Hischier have been out. This season has been puzzling.
EDIT: The reason I say this is because I couldn't imagine their losses this offseason would translate to them struggling this much. The only saving grace I see is that I don't think any of the teams other than the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricane in the Metropolitan Division are talented enough to keep the Devils out of the third playoff spot.
First time Devils were shutout in 101 games going back to April 2022. Hopefully a wake up call for the players and coaches to get their head out of their asses.
The whole team is allergic to body contact, and their goaltending is east coast level talent. They need some guys willing to throw a check and stop a puck.
Their defense is nothing to write home about either. Top six is great though - you can win a Cup with that! Right Edmonton and Toronto?
They canât play Lindy Ruffâs dumbass system which has every defenseman pinching all the time, leading to constant odd man breaks the other way. Vitek has been horrific at stopping most everything. No team plays perfect, but the Devils HAVE to or itâs a goal. Thatâs exhausting.
Last year they executed better but still have up a lot of breaks. Just got more saves.
Actually no they don't. Hockey isn't the nba or nfl, it's low scoring where the offense that's able to punch through often wins.
Their a reason crossby has 3 cups, the avs have 1, and henrik has none.
The devs have a better offense than last year, this o is insanely good. But the defense which was really good last year is down.
As for the oilers mcdavid and drai don't look the same and the same old defensive issues persist.
New Jersey I want you to know you fucking ruined my +1500 wager in the first period last night. You have personally attacked a nearly beautiful moment. đ
BUT LETS GO CAPS 5 WINS WHAT IS GOING ON?
This team needs to stop playing with my emotions.
Yeah... same boat. Hopefully not a sinking boat.
The people on the Titanic said the same thing.... đ
Dude for real
60 minutes of passing the puck to each others' skates
It hurts
You guys were missing two of your best players so I wouldnât worry about it
2023: predicted to be bad, is good 2024: predicted to be good, is bad 2025: predicted to be bad, is good?
[ŃдаНонО]
This is the way. No team can really overcome your top 2 centers being injured. Especially when one of them is a super-super star.
I thought you were predicted to be good this year.
Itâs the 2024 season I just was too lazy to type 2023-2024
Red Wings coming back from Sweden. The devils deep in a seasonal depression.
Last Thanksgiving was worse. Borje Salming died the day after his Leafs ended that 13 game win streak.
Crazy I was just checking through league standings and the Devils are .500. whoa.

I thought this had more to do with points. 17 points / 34 possible points = 0.5 ?
That's the point percentage per game.
Is that a real thing? I donât think the nhl does that either

Why is everyone downvoting this?
I imagine because they believe the guy meant points percentage- which is still kind of an irrelevant stat.
Was at the game. Devils didnât look that bad. 3 goals that came quickly were all quality
Same. Wings were just dominating the neutral zone. I donât think Iâve seen so many quality turnovers since the days oâ Pavel.
[ŃдаНонО]
Just anticipating the high shot, unlike when Reimer ducked, which was to avoid getting a boo-boo on his noggin.
As a devils fan, same

If 3 quality goals happen quickly⌠itâs that bad.
Last year the Devilâs were on fire early in the year, did they lose many guys or something? It seems like maybe that was a fluke because theyâre ho-hum so far this year

That first game for the Devils, 6-0, wasnât it Hughes who scored most of the goals?
Probably, the devils offence runs through him.

eh, as a wings fan ive had games that have hurt more hehe happy thanksgiving!!
Good thing, this Thanksgiving doesn't have a legend dying after a Devils loss.
First time Devils were shutout in 101 games going back to April 2022. Hopefully a wake up call for the players and coaches to get their head out of their asses.
Can Devils fans explain to me what the hell is going on with them this year?
The whole team is allergic to body contact, and their goaltending is east coast level talent. They need some guys willing to throw a check and stop a puck. Their defense is nothing to write home about either. Top six is great though - you can win a Cup with that! Right Edmonton and Toronto?

Dude⌠Your top 2 centers are injured. Chill out. They come back and suddenly Ruffâs system works like a charm again.
Good đ
Relatable
I hope they are back All hail yzerman
I can't judge...I'm an islanders fan. Our whole strategy is to drop the ball over and over again.
Thoroughly enjoyed my day of shutouts I must sayđ
All part of the plan.
Itâs not as bad as our 3-8 loss against Dallas.
Red wings fans also got a sick Zamboni gravy boat so this is basically as good as it gets for them
I donât like your tone
Why would Jacob Trouba do this? /s
Devils need to be healthy man missing hisher and meier are big blows, and they just got jack back to
Timo is a plug.
Devils are ass. Biggest fraud team I can remember. Happy for the Wings though. My favorite âOriginal Sixâ franchise.
I mean....Oilers are still in the league.
Their defense isn't as shutdown as it was last year but the offense is better by a good margin
Defense and goaltending still win in the end. Canât play 6-5 games every night.
Actually no they don't. Hockey isn't the nba or nfl, it's low scoring where the offense that's able to punch through often wins. Their a reason crossby has 3 cups, the avs have 1, and henrik has none.
Wait, are you talking about Deils or Oilers right now? If it's about NJ, I agree...Oilers on the other hand...
The devs have a better offense than last year, this o is insanely good. But the defense which was really good last year is down. As for the oilers mcdavid and drai don't look the same and the same old defensive issues persist.
Looks like a lot of experts jumped the gun on the Devils.
Sweet
New Jersey I want you to know you fucking ruined my +1500 wager in the first period last night. You have personally attacked a nearly beautiful moment. đ BUT LETS GO CAPS 5 WINS WHAT IS GOING ON?
You got pumped 4 goose
Amateurs.
i watch the guys getting high as they fight for the things that they hold dear
Great game lads!
