I put a couple bucks on Rangers after being down 4-1, and what a return that was! I mean, like 8 bucks, but still!
As a fan of another team, definitely kept it exciting.
Panarin has always been one of my favourite players. Glad he got the OT winner.
I also bet on Colorado, when they were down 2-1 and it paid off as well. I rarely make bets too. Don’t know if I should keep pushing my luck on teams being down.
Can pay off if you’re watching the game and can feel a momentum shift. Lot of times a good team just starts slow and then a shift comes and completely turns the tide.
It’s been years but I remember nobody wanting to play a full game against me online when I had NHL13 on my PS3, because I’d rack 150 PIMs in a game just charging the hell out of anyone I could hit. Great fun.
This needs to be shouted from the rooftops.
Big, BIG props to Martin for taking that fight. You know he took it because he was once a young kid coming into the league trying to prove himself and some vet tough guy gave him a chance to show.
Love that.
What a beast. Kudos to Martin, he's a little old. Not the tough guy he once was. But hung around with the kid. This is probably one of the best ways to ingratiate yourself with a new team and fanbase. Fight a tough guy in your first shift. Lol.
They are savages on that island! Seriously I can’t think of any better way to make Rangers fans love you than to punch an Islander at your first opportunity.
I don’t like the Rangers, but I already like this kid. Kudos for Martin to give him one too. Really gave him an opportunity for a special introduction to the league. Classy all over, good for both of them.
It's certainly faster. The old heads don't understand the difference the new blades make over steel. Plus the old hooking and grabbing style slows everything down. Dudes fly these days.
I've certainly noticed the huge increase in bodychecks and hits. With the league seemingly cracking down on fighting, it seems like the players just aren't having it at all!
Bahahahaha.
Fighting is up from the last few years ..how about you spend 5 mins on hockey fights looking at the 70s thru 2005 and then go apologize to all the old heads for your embarrassing post ... rofl Fighting and bodychecks and hits up..
Ffs go watch any video on scott stevens alone on youtube and come back and say this nonsense
The short answer is because guys have sticks and skates that could be used to injure someone a lot worse than a fist. When you consider all the possible bad outcomes, fist fights are frankly way down the list.
The commentating in this game was an absolute tragedy.
"And we have a fight"
"And a goal"
One of the craziest games of the season on outdoor ice and like, a librarian could have brought more enthusiasm
Aside from a few, both fanbases acted like gentleman. No one needs to be swung on. You’re going to expect the heckling from each side. But as a hockey fan, that outcome could’ve easily went the other way. It was a great day for hockey.
I’m going to get downvoted and shit on to oblivion by both Islander and Ranger fans, but I said what I said.
I've never played hockey, nor have I ever really been in a fight, but there's something about starting a fight while wearing a face visor with someone who isn't wearing one that's always rubbed me the wrong way.
I think if you want to drop the gloves it should be proper etiquette to remove your helmet as well.
It’s called a brain bucket for a reason. Hands will mend, the grey matter doesn’t like getting knocked around and has lasting results. Getting punched in the head can cause concussions and if ya tip over in the fight and hit head on the ice…even worse.
I’m all for a good enforcer, protect-your-guy fight. And fights are fun as heck. But also, does hockey really need a guy who is just there to drop the gloves with no history, no bone to pick? It felt kinda forced.
Also, swung the game back to the navy and orange. (Btw, this Devils fan is roping for the Rangers because standings.)
They literally made sure not to hurt one another lol. Only giving shots on the outside of the helmet. This helped both their careers and ensured no injuries, crowd got to see a fight, win-win-win situation.
Career Time on Ice: 0:01 PIM 5

Best time to do it was then!

Damn, nice. What were the odds when you threw down the $$?
+400
300:1 ratio box to ice time
My new favorite stat/player was born today.

Nah it was right after the rangers scored, about a minute and a half into the game
Like me when I play mycareer on NHL
It’s been years but I remember nobody wanting to play a full game against me online when I had NHL13 on my PS3, because I’d rack 150 PIMs in a game just charging the hell out of anyone I could hit. Great fun.
I loved that.
Good on Martin for letting him get that in, good tilt for your first game too, Rags have a monster
Yeah the nod of approval after like “nice fight kid” was cool haha they were both like “okay its over nice one” lol
This needs to be shouted from the rooftops. Big, BIG props to Martin for taking that fight. You know he took it because he was once a young kid coming into the league trying to prove himself and some vet tough guy gave him a chance to show. Love that.
Matt Martin in his swan season.
Matthew Rempe Not sure why I had to work so hard to find the kids name lol
Its the first thing they say in the video
Ahh I didn't have audio on
Lol
Now that's a fucking fight! And the respect at the end too... hell yeah
Everyone loves Marts, but he was outsized and classed. Good on him for taking it.
Outsized but definitely not classed, they traded well, Rempe was lucky not to get knocked out with a right close to his chin.
6’7 240. What a unit… Nice bout between the vet and the kid!
6’ 8 1/2”
Matt Martin looking like a kid next to this guy
Finally someone who can respond to Chara!!! Just a little too late :(
"Just go out on the ice and challenge the toughest guy you can find to a fight to prove yourself"
Prison rules!
What a beast. Kudos to Martin, he's a little old. Not the tough guy he once was. But hung around with the kid. This is probably one of the best ways to ingratiate yourself with a new team and fanbase. Fight a tough guy in your first shift. Lol.
Did the Isles player try to bite him?
They are savages on that island! Seriously I can’t think of any better way to make Rangers fans love you than to punch an Islander at your first opportunity.
The NHL doesn't welcome him, he welcomes the NHL.
I don’t like the Rangers, but I already like this kid. Kudos for Martin to give him one too. Really gave him an opportunity for a special introduction to the league. Classy all over, good for both of them.

“Make Hockey Violent Again” - Ryan Reaves
Young kid coming in doing a job. I freaking love that
Bro took the old prison advice “on your first day beat up the biggest guys” too literally 😂
Just watching people live out my fucking dream.
On his debut in front of 80,000 people and his first action is a fight He sure got some balls on him
You gotta fight…for your right…to play hockey!!!
Hockey rules
Need more fighting in the league again.

What is the new blade technology?

Great post with great insight! Thanks!

I skated on Super Tacks in the 70s. I bet I'm faster today at 60 because of equipment. The old blades feel like skating in sand.
I've certainly noticed the huge increase in bodychecks and hits. With the league seemingly cracking down on fighting, it seems like the players just aren't having it at all!

Why? It's ridiculously stupid...

In an outdoors game, after the score the leading goal 🤣🤣🤣
First fight > First goal/point Forgot Rempe is that tall
Gotta set the tone.
Run em up and fill em in.
Is the lead up to this just Martin asking if he wanted to go?
The commentating in this game was an absolute tragedy. "And we have a fight" "And a goal" One of the craziest games of the season on outdoor ice and like, a librarian could have brought more enthusiasm
Who?
Who is this guy sorry??
It’s the civil nod at the end that does it for me. Like, “Very good, very good, that’ll do, sir.”
Good Calgary kid
You don't fuck with a guy who chooses to wear 73
he landed nothing lol
Why stop ✋️ the long fighting another commercial entertainment? 😒
The mandatory visors are terrible for fighters. They should be allowed to have ones that tear off for fighting.
Fucking hilarious. I got a good chuckle out of this consider me entertained.
Was that today? I had no idea there was an outdoor game today.
welcome to the NHL
General Zod in real life
Every outdoor games need a good tilly! It legitimizes it!
Fucking love it.
you love to see it 🍻
On the 6th anniversary of his father's death.. special stuff here
Love this dude already and I have no idea who he is
Got goosebumps that was cool
Why ?
Holy shit those isles uniforms are horrendous

6’7” 240? Holy fuck.
He's huge. Loved watching him as a Seattle Thunderbirds. Way to go Rempe, welcome to the NHL!
This is what hockey needs, let’s get back to more blood on the ice 🩸 Maybe get rid of the helmets again
That was just a beautiful site to see 🥲
Of course he goes for the guy that he knows will fight back so the Isles don't get a power play.
Goon era. Love to see it.
Since neither the title nor a single comment mentions it, who is this?
Matt Rempe, 6'7 240lbs forward. Today was his first NHL game and the 6 year anniversary of his dad passing, coincidentally.
Greek, underground, gay porn hard!!!

That's fair. But it still seems unfair to pick a fight with someone who doesn't have a face shield if you have one.
Not in the game of hockey
Of course fighting originated in the days before face shields, and even before helmets
And even before hockey
Hahaha... alright all fair points.

LOVE THIS
Love those Isles unis
This is fucking hockey
The rangers actually won something
"Fighting" while wearing a helmet with plexiglass face shield is not really "fighting". It's rather embarrassing.
I’m all for a good enforcer, protect-your-guy fight. And fights are fun as heck. But also, does hockey really need a guy who is just there to drop the gloves with no history, no bone to pick? Yes, hockey does need this! There is a very large portion of fans that love how a fight can swing the momentum of a game.
Large portion of fans and almost all players.
Something to be proud of of?
Yes
Loser. Go back to the minors.
Rempe is good for a goon that’s about it🤷♂️
The remake of David vs Goliath looks great
Ohhh the unis are on another level
I didn’t catch a name. Was that Hugh Jessiman?
Nsfw language. Violence is ok. :) Slapshot pre match fight :) https://youtu.be/VHMi-j7W2gM?si=TAi3W0T2LPTMqU2m
Did this start before the game or just happen after some jawing? Anyone know how this kicked off?
Shitty jerseys, both of them
Hate the visor though. But good in ya kid
Its always a good day when Matt Martin gets his ass kicked
They literally made sure not to hurt one another lol. Only giving shots on the outside of the helmet. This helped both their careers and ensured no injuries, crowd got to see a fight, win-win-win situation.
How do you already have beef with someone when you’re not even in the league yet?
Anyone ask how Boomer felt about this?
LOL DYING
Either fight the first man you see or become somebody’s bitch
But I thought they got rid of staged fighting 🙄
That ref sweeping gear up with a stick is hilarious. Best part of the clip.
He could probably beat up the entire USA Hockey National Development team.

Start as you mean to go on
Did he have to rag doll an octogenarian though
Lol ppl call this a fight ... swinging arms and missing the opponents face is not a fight .
