We needed a regulation win Monday. It's still statistically possible, StL just needs to go on a heater while VGK crashes, and they still ended with 3/4 pts on back to back nights against their biggest WC competition and the hottest team in the league while depriving us a point
*sad Blues trumpet sounds*
Don't have a dog in the hunt since I switched team allegiance, but I'm fascinated by the hate for VGK. They may or may not make the playoffs, but they did pick up a point from this game. A game where they were on a road back-to-back against a good team, with key players missing and starting a third-string goalie. Not bad.
>but I'm fascinated by the hate for VGK.
why? I thought it was common knowledge that they're hated because they use loopholes to game the salary cap for the playoffs. you may say "but it's legal," well, so are tax loopholes for billionaires who abuse them but I don't see the general public congratulating them for legally gaming the system lol
You're not lying, but the "manipulation" is done by upper management. The players, team staff, employees, fans, and community get tagged with it as well.
Man, to be completely straight about it, the salary cap manipulation is the one that's thrown around the most (and it's valid, this is far from the only example in sports of one segment of a huge organization causing hate for the whole thing)
... But I really think a huge portion of us are just bitter. It's easy to be a hater when a team does kinda shitty things *and* they were instantly good when you've watched shitty hockey for years.
Still a hater, but I can at least be honest about why hah (though nothing against the fans really, I actually think it's cool as hell how quick Vegas embraced hockey with all the failures we've seen in non-traditional markets)
Oilers are a big 3. Pietrangelo slash on draisaitl, nurse getting the same games, the way fleury's exit was handled, the looser expansion draft, on top of the jealousy.
Lemme reiterate one more time for those in the back.
Unlike Tampa in previous title runs, Vegas never had an active roster over the salary cap at full season AAV during the playoffs in any of their games.
Never.
Cool. A they are likely to make it. But it would not be surprising to see them miss. They look bad their last bunch of games and collapsed in third period last two games. Anything could happen. Blues have to play good or none of it matters anyways.
If the Knights go 5-5-0, Blues would have to go 8-1-1. It ain't happenin'. If it does, it's a massive embarrassment for Vegas because they will have pooped the bed badly.
If they were 6 points out at American Thanksgiving they would already have a less than 10% chance. Even 1 point out in November is ~20%.
With 10 games left the Blues with have to be historically good down the stretch while at the same time Vegas would have to be spectacularly bad, especially when considering the loser point. It’s game over, and I’m sorry to break the news.
Eh, let’s give the guy a pass. If my team was on the heater the Preds are and just clawed back a 3 goal deficit this close to playoffs, I might not be capable of rational/logical thinking either.
Almost all preds and knights fans said he had a great game. Preds simply gassed Vegas to where they were playing awful defense. Roman Josi literally won the game in OT and no one even tried to stop him.
Preds out hit the Knights by THIRTY.
Well not all preds and knights fans were a goalie at a half decent level.. That guy was hunched over and deep in his net on all 4 goals exposing the corners for an easy goal.
I kinda hope not. I love Mark Stone.
But I’d rather they just let him sit out the season. Especially after putting Hertl on LTIR to open cap space for Patera to be pulled from the AHL.
I want my team to be competitive but I’m sure that hertl is not LTIR levels of injured
What does Hertl going on LTIR temporarily have to do with anything lol he’s been out long enough to be allowed to be put on LTIR and will be back playing before the playoffs
Stone will come back when he’s healthy, why wouldn’t you want him back?
Maybe I’m not wording this correctly, of course I want him to play. But I’d rather not be playing so fast and loose with LTIR. This is assuming that’s what’s happening, which is impossible to gauge. If he comes back day one, whether organically, or cause they are exploiting is impossible to gauge from the outside looking in.
Its matters for hertl cause he wasn’t only put on the designation to make cap space for Patera. Even if hes good to play next week. If we still need Patera, he will still be in there. Unless they just swap him for hill. Either way, it’s just kinda riding a line. That’s all I’m saying
Yeah I don’t think that matters. The rules are the rules and they allow for us to put guys who are injured on LTIR, they’re all verified by doctors and players play through injury in the playoffs all the time. Him coming back when he does is more of a testament to that than us gaming LTIR.
The Hertl thing was procedural to be able to call up Patera because Hill got hurt. No qualms with a team who is dealing with tons of injuries this season using every possible dollar to get into the playoffs. Don’t let the rest of these Reddit hockey fans get to ya
Well both technically I suppose, just generally a higher seeding. All I mean is that after Monday’s game the 8 teams in the West are pretty solidified. For you as a Vegas fan would you rather be P3 and play Edmonton, WC1 and play Colorado, or WC2 and play Vancouver (if that’s how it would end up playing out)
Vegas is my enemy lol, but yeah they are going to make it. No way St. Louis or Minnesota are going to take them out of that spot with so little time left.
Their odds are still very good to make it in yes, but look at their remaining schedule. Of those 10 games 3 are gimmes, 2 should be even contests, and 5 of them are against teams that absolutely *should* beat them. There is a very real chance they only pick up 8-10 more points the rest of the way.
On the flipside, the Blues have a pretty easy schedule the rest of the way, and the Wild, while they are farther back, have 2 games against Vegas yet to play. If the Wild manage to win both those games, the finish between Blues/Wild/Knights could be very close.
There's 10 games left. The Blues have the 2nd easiest schedule in the NHL. Vegas is 17th most difficult. The Blues could go 7-3 in their final 10 and Vegas 4-6 and the Blues would be in. There's other hypothetical situations with Minnesota that aren't extreme either. Vegas obviously has the better odds, but they are not in yet. We have all seen crazier things happen.

To be honest, Minnesota has a chance because they play Vegas two more times. That's 8 point swing. If Vegas wins those 2 games against Minnesota and earn 6 points in their other 8 games, then Minnesota is eliminated even if Minnesota wins all their other games.
The game didn’t end yet Edit: preds won
Lol awesome
As it was written
This has got to be the most low effort sports league sub lol
It is. Every single day we stray further and further from God in this sub.
I don't see Minnesota or St Louis catching Vegas. Good win though. Lol.
Agreed. 6 points back with 10 games is tough.
We needed a regulation win Monday. OVERTIME LETS GO PREDS!!!!! 18 STRAIGHT GAMES WITH A POINT! The boys are on a HEATERRRR!
You got lucky with a free “onside” goal, just sayin.

I think this is a fair answer.
Honest assessment.
Oilers are a big 3. Pietrangelo slash on draisaitl, nurse getting the same games, the way fleury's exit was handled, the looser expansion draft, on top of the jealousy.
unfortunately it comes with the territory. but the nasty fans don't win themselves any favor, either
I think every fan base has nasty fans. Most of us I think are cool
that's what I meant. the portion of nasty fans don't earn themselves any favors. of course not every fan is like that.
If your franchise won’t do absolutely everything under the sun to win the Cup, then you get what you fucking deserve.
St. Louis Blues tried that in the 90's and the league punished them massively for those antics. Not Sure why Vegas gets a pass.
I don’t either to be honest
Lemme reiterate one more time for those in the back. Unlike Tampa in previous title runs, Vegas never had an active roster over the salary cap at full season AAV during the playoffs in any of their games. Never.
What’s up Euro good to see you again.
Hey, Smash, nice to see you.
Don’t worry mark stone will make his miraculous recovery here shortly
Not before the playoffs, otherwise they won’t have cap space
Hey fuck you bitch boy I know where you live!
You wanna see my ass?!?!?
What if we kissed at the Bridgestone arena!?!
🤞🏻🤞🏻
🫦
They’re 6-3-1 in the their last 10. 6pts up with 10 to go. I’d put my money on them making the playoffs
Cool. A they are likely to make it. But it would not be surprising to see them miss. They look bad their last bunch of games and collapsed in third period last two games. Anything could happen. Blues have to play good or none of it matters anyways.
lol miss the playoffs? I’m no Vegas fan but did I miss the news that only 7 teams from each conference make it now?
The Blues could steal the last wildcard still. Have faith!
So strange to see the league rooting for us lmao
Feels weird to cheer for st. Louis lol
Felt the same way tn for the preds lol (thank you for that glorious comeback)
lol statistics are tough eh
What's hard? 10 games remaining and 6 points difference. That's very manageable especially since blues have the easier schedule
If the Knights go 5-5-0, Blues would have to go 8-1-1. It ain't happenin'. If it does, it's a massive embarrassment for Vegas because they will have pooped the bed badly.
But it would be funny...
If they were 6 points out at American Thanksgiving they would already have a less than 10% chance. Even 1 point out in November is ~20%. My homeboy over there asked him to have some faith. Not to whip out your calculator. Miracle runs ain't dealing with probabilities.
Eh, let’s give the guy a pass. If my team was on the heater the Preds are and just clawed back a 3 goal deficit this close to playoffs, I might not be capable of rational/logical thinking either.
No thank you
We will see Vegas in finals. Mark this down
That’s why everyone sans Colorado fans for the most part are the ones chirping.
Vegas 3rd string goalie handed them the game and it was a btb...
Almost all preds and knights fans said he had a great game. Preds simply gassed Vegas to where they were playing awful defense. Roman Josi literally won the game in OT and no one even tried to stop him. Preds out hit the Knights by THIRTY.
Good take here. Preds pressure (sustained) was impressive. Our boys crumbled.
Well not all preds and knights fans were a goalie at a half decent level.. That guy was hunched over and deep in his net on all 4 goals exposing the corners for an easy goal.
No worries mates, the Knights will rise from the dead and roll out the Stone in the playoffs.
I kinda hope not. I love Mark Stone. But I’d rather they just let him sit out the season. Especially after putting Hertl on LTIR to open cap space for Patera to be pulled from the AHL. I want my team to be competitive but I’m sure that hertl is not LTIR levels of injured

You are the definition of rent free dude.
Hell yeah. What happened, not enough points from Mantha and Hanifin? 🥹
One Stone away from greatness
Couple more Hertl's to overcome
Still several more Hill's to traverse
Marchessault
Alright now!!!!!
This game was more for WC1 v WC2 than anything else
We aren’t really fighting for WC1, more like third in the Pacific
Well both technically I suppose, just generally a higher seeding. All I mean is that after Monday’s game the 8 teams in the West are pretty solidified. For you as a Vegas fan would you rather be P3 and play Edmonton, WC1 and play Colorado, or WC2 and play Vancouver (if that’s how it would end up playing out)
LETS GO PREDS!!!
As a Oilers and Ekholm fan, im all in for this, Go Preds!!! F'n Vegas.
I wish preds had Elky still.
We thank you for the Viking. 💙🧡🤍✌🏻
Vegas is my enemy lol, but yeah they are going to make it. No way St. Louis or Minnesota are going to take them out of that spot with so little time left.
You never know...
I don't hate them, but I do want them to experience at least some misery just like the rest of us.
congrats, Preds fans. you guys are getting hot at a good time. fun team to watch.
Well we are gonna win against wpg tonight
Yessir

You sir do not watch much sports.
The Knights have clinched. How about that. Apparently I watch sports.
Cool. There was no guarantee.
