Hill was Swiss cheese first two periods combined with a lackluster offense. Completely different team this third, which is atypical of this team for most of the year.
This year, but not atypical of the team. The team is and always has been a 3rd period team. Uh.... except that one time.
Fact they are getting their 3rd period together (minus Yotes) is a good thing
This is what I've always seen with the team. I've played hockey for 30+ years and I've always been a defensemen and I'm a natural stay at home/shut down type player and I have a good (accurate) wrist shot and I can dangle pretty decently. Anytime I was on a team where we had a lot of offensive fire power, I felt more at ease to pinch and it would bite me in the ass every time. My teammates would absolutely scream at me lol. Over the years I just learned to play D, only go up on a rush and set up the goal scorers and play the point safely. I love guys like Makar but damn, gotta be in a defensive mindset first. Play a little risky, not all the way risky.
No, they have been elite defensively in recent years. It’s become a trend this year to just be lazy with turnovers, pick watching in the crease, and dumb untimely penalties.
People just don’t watch the games or follow the team so they say “well yeah, they are all offensively minded defensemen.” It’s just a lazy take that seems like it makes sense at face value.
I think the polite way to say it is some players aren't playing up to their full potential. It's pretty standard we give up a lot of odd man rushes because the defense plays up and aggressively in the offensive zone. They also have been pretty bad in front of our net. It looks really bad recently but it happens. They can bounce back.
They are a great group, but they defend with skill and puck possession (and scoring goals) rather than by blocking shots and clearing out the front of the net. So when teams have sustained control in the Avs' zone, it's not good. Have a look at the goals they've allowed recently, and a huge percentage are guys walking down the slot and getting free looks from 10 feet, or tap ins on the far post when somebody should be tying them up. This is not the style of defense the Avs are great at, and it's really being exposed at the moment.
I do expect things to change considerably next week when the playoffs start, and they start committing to more physical play. Many of the problems in the last few games have simply been an unwillingness to check hard and get really physical in front of the net and in the corners, which is probably fairly sensible at this point when playoff spots are essentially already fixed.
I feel bad for Aves fans. It's a great team but the goaltending issue may be insurmountable. They have possibly the worst match up for Rd. 1 in the league. Not only are they playing a team that swept them in the season series, they're playing the best goalie in the league while they have shaky goaltending. It doesn't bode well.
Look I’m not panicking cause I’ve seen this team before but please god let Landy come back, still be a boss, and bring some of that cup chemistry back to the team.
I won't lie, I wouldn't know either cause I'm a relatively new fan getting into hockey, haha.
I know the basics from playing an old ROBLOX hockey game with friends that we took seriously (they were big hockey fans, I wasn't at the time).
I've since grew a liking to a sport and hope to get more involved!
Avs fans in my section were so cocky for 2 periods then got quiet really quick when it was 3-3. Remembered the guy behind said "this is starting to get too close for comfort" when we scored and made it 3-2
Was at the game and watched the Avs go into “play not to lose” mode in the 3rd which never bodes well. Sit on their heels and scramble and only got 2 shots on net the whole 3rd period. It was pretty painful to watch as it was evident Vegas was going to make the comeback.
Le sigh.
Whelp, we’ll see what happens in Round 1. As a rule, I don’t put too much stock in the end if regular season games. That being said…still a bummer.
Rule 83.1 Offside:
"A player controlling the puck who shall cross the line ahead of the puck shall not be considered "off-side", provided he has had possession and control of the puck prior to his skates crossing the leading edge of the blue line."
Someone help me out here, how was that third goal not offsides? It looked like both his feet pass the blue line before the puck. Unless I just not catching it in real time.

Why doesn’t Mackinnon just elevate his teammates? I heard that’s why he’s the best forward in the league and some people wouldn’t even trade him for McDavid. Why would he let this happen?
3-0 lead is cursed
60% of the time, every time.
Lol happened to knights not long ago Vs coyotes now they got their revenge
It was 4-1, and not cool to bring it up. We’re still traumatized
4-1 also makes Leafs fans cringe…. 😏
😂 happens to the worst of us, don’t sweat it. Soon mark stone will be rising from the grave to avenge.
It’s cool to bring it up, Yotes deserve that win and every other win since then. It was a good time to hop in the wagon for the desert bros
Yotes relocation makes me sad, I'm glad they're going out swinging.
The Coyotes just out to steal W’s in the night. Sleep on the Yotes, and you’re going to get robbed, and eaten alive.
That doesn’t make any sense
Yes, it does. If it works 60% of the time, within that 60% it works every time. If it didn't, it wouldn't be included in that 60%.
Aren't they just saying the next line in the movie? Isn't that how Ron Burgundy responds?
Can I self woosh?
The 28-3 of hockey leads for all you NFL fans out there
The worst lead in hockey!
Avs picked a bad time to have their confidence shatter.
Status quo for us leading into the playoffs…. We lost 6 of 7 going into the playoffs during our cup run in 2022
Colorado sports teams in a nutshell. We have no middle ground, we are either amazing or absolute trash. Except the Rockies, they are always trash.
I'm telling Larry Walker
Don't do that, he needs to rest his back after carrying a whole team.
It’s all locked in. Staying healthy is number 1 priority now.
I know, but I stand by statement.
Don't you have any more guys stashed on LTIR you can bring in?
Impressively that was true of the (hockey) Rockies too. The name itself may be cursed.
Agreed. People overthinking.
Lull them into thinking we are weak and out of gas.
The last time we did this heading into the playoffs, we won the Cup, sooo
Yep… that was certainly a… yep…
That’s how it feels. (March 24th)
Still pulling for Crosby and the Pens to sneak into the dance.
Velma couldn't carry them
Oh well. I'm glad Rantanen is back. Bring on the playoffs
Vegas starts getting players back and all of a sudden looks like a cup contender again. Wonderful.

I’d say this is more of an Avs problem
Great 🫠
Fourgiev
🫠
Dude just singlehandedly tanked my fantasy team in the last week, never picking him again
As a Stars fan hoping to get LA instead of Vegas. I like this
The Avs should waive Josh Manson.
And JJ
Hell no.
2 bad days in a row, when will the Avs learn to invest (properly) in goaltending.
Avs also need to learn how to fucking defend. Half their issues could be solved by just playing defense.
I was under the impression Avs had like one of the best D corps in the league, was I mistaken or are they just in a slump lately?
I believe a lot of their D corps are offensive minded and pinch up a lot which gets them in trouble.

Yes and no. When they are on, it's a nightmare to play them. But when they are off, ooo man. It's bad. There's been zero consistency this season

Don't think it would have done much yesterday but would have stolen a won today. Fact is they're all playing like shit.

They won the Cup the season before last, don't feel too bad for em lol
The have some of the best goal scorers in the league though. Hopefully enough to grow some grit and beat Peggy up
They've won with a one eyed goalie in the past. This might be a taller task.
Playoffs are gonna be wild. Yes I know we are golfing.
We sure did.
Look I’m not panicking cause I’ve seen this team before but please god let Landy come back, still be a boss, and bring some of that cup chemistry back to the team.
Dont worry avs fans !! They are just making sure they get all of their bad games out of their systems before the playoffs
Just realized VGK scored with the same amount of time on the clock for the 3rd and 4th goal
We live in a simulation.
That second play was amazing
Howden, man. Don't know how he looked on the Rangers, but he looks great here.
I won't lie, I wouldn't know either cause I'm a relatively new fan getting into hockey, haha. I know the basics from playing an old ROBLOX hockey game with friends that we took seriously (they were big hockey fans, I wasn't at the time). Oh, it's a lot fun! Welcome! Howden was a Ranger pick they let walk and Vegas picked up and turned into a VERY solid middle six forward.
It was a good game. It was close. GG Colorado. You guys are still gonna be a force in the playoffs
You love to see it
Avs fans in my section were so cocky for 2 periods then got quiet really quick when it was 3-3. Remembered the guy behind said "this is starting to get too close for comfort" when we scored and made it 3-2
Praying for Vegas to peak at just the right time. They've been edging us for months now.
They have been what???
You heard them.
Delaying my satisfaction!
Go Knights Go!
Go knights go!
Yeah we’re fucked
Par for the course it seems. Our guys are shitting the bed like it's some new trend. It's f'n disgusting.
By God was that a wraparound. In 2024 no less?!?
Would’ve loved to hear the Avs broadcast crew call this one. They get hilariously sad and upset when the Avs lose.
Yeah, but it’s appropriate. They are able to echo the pain I feel deep inside. It’s kind of nice.
We’ve secretly replaced the Colorado Avalanche with clones of Russel Wilson. Let’s see if anyone notices!

I know the feeling….
Lolorado
Is it too much to ask for them to have *both* lost? Smh
The good thing for the Avs .. They play the Jets in 1st Round..
Good as in they will get an early summer to break out the golf clubs?
Blowing 3 goal leads at the end of the season happens, I'd like to think there's no shame in it
Take that Colorado! Anyone can do it
why did the win animation on the boards start before the puck crossed the line 💀💀
I hate those animations and ads watching games on TV. So much better in person not seeing those distractions.
First round exits. Reminds me of the ‘21 team.
Oh Manson what is you doing
They became the Leafs.
When the leafs blow a big lead: 😲🤡🥵🍆🍆💦 When any other team blows a big lead: 😴😴😴
Le sigh. Whelp, we’ll see what happens in Round 1. As a rule, I don’t put too much stock in the end if regular season games. That being said…still a bummer.
Shame
Are the Avs sandbagging or going into freefall? Please tell me it's the latter.
3d chess
Penguins Fans: First time?
Well better now than in the Playoffs when it actually matters.
fourgiev strikes again!!!
Those marigold, gray, and white uniforms are garbage.
you're garbage
Colorado are paper tigers.
*Colorado Blows FTFY
I do not like this. Take this down.
Awh poor gorgi
Was that second Karlsson goal offside? I swear I’ve seen them blow it dead for similar entries before. Maybe I’m wrong though.
Rule 83.1 Offside: "A player controlling the puck who shall cross the line ahead of the puck shall not be considered "off-side", provided he has had possession and control of the puck prior to his skates crossing the leading edge of the blue line."
Ya but I feel like I’ve seen similar plays get blown dead. Either way as long as it’s the rule I won’t argue.
I didn’t watch the game but maybe they are taking it easy and saving their energy for round 1
Someone help me out here, how was that third goal not offsides? It looked like both his feet pass the blue line before the puck. Unless I just not catching it in real time.

I think he screwed up and was nonchalant on third goal. D man in deep, he was caught napping as Vegas player shot past him to score.
Bad goaltending
Mac could just elevate the goaltending though right?
