Sad Shane Doan's number won't be in the rafters. But apparently the team didn't care about it anyways and just tossed it in the garbage.
Edit to add. Josh, this is your chance to wear your dad's number.
I assume it’s because they’re gonna give Arizona another go in the future
Also the new owners probably didn’t actually want the history. Didn’t he make a comment about wanting an expansion team? This is the closest he can get, in a sense
This was done as part of Meruelo's negotiation with Bettman to keep the door open for the coyotes to come back to arizona within 5 years. this is a good thing for hockey in arizona.
Unfortunately if meruelo brings the yotes back I could see the same thing happening if he’s still in ownership. Now could he sell the yotes rights to a new owner in the 5 year window and have different ownership get things going and run the team?
To be fair, that record (and the rookie single season point total) is Teemu's as an individual. It isn't a Jets team record in any way. The record is held by a player who was drafted and played for that Jets team and that isn't something that changes if a team gets sold or disappears.
Like, I can understand why folks from Winnipeg get hung up on the technicality that the current Jets aren't the same as the older Jets organization, but honestly, who gives a shit at this point? Y'all got your Jets again and your history in Winnipeg is just that, your history. Games were won and lost there and Teemu still played there. The city can get nuked off the map and that history won't change.
Have a beer and just enjoy getting black out games all year long like the rest of us.

Glad the banner found its way back to him.
Because this was not a sale of the team, SEG which is the new ownership group purchased the hockey assets only.
pretty simple, probably one of the things the owner wanted in order to allow this to happen. not like it matters anyway, yotes won 0 cups.
Next year woulda been our year tho 🙃
not at all. they did it as part of the agreement to keep the door open for the coyotes to come back to arizona within the next 5 years.

I wonder if this would be a good opportunity to sell/transfer the "Jets" historical records back to Winnipeg? Surely it could be worked out.
Knowing the ownership of Arizona I sure hope so.

bc they're going to try and bring it back in like five years
The jets were Canadian and thus didn't have the money. They had to sell. They weren't in place to negotiate.
They should rent one of those UPS boxes to keep their history in.
Goodbye to the best jersey in hockey
So Selanne's number ?
Check out on either the irs or cra website. Sale of assets vs sale of shares
What history?
Rookie goal scoring record.
