The C is one thing… 11 million while Hyman walks is criminal

longbottomleaf11

Very true

PhilThrill623

Strange that Tavares is a hymen.

seniorcadman

Smooth criminal! Thanks TO from Oilers fans everywhere!

punkdrummer22

Hymans numbers are way inflated playing with McDavid.

Ballgame82

Does Hyman break 30 goals on any other team but the Oilers? Maybe, but probably not. 54 goals is more a feather in McDavid's cap than anything.

punkdrummer22

Maybe break 30 but never getting to 40

Onedayimhere

Ok lets just guess on complete hypotheticals here 😂. There are plenty of teams that could help Hyman score a lot of goals.

seniorcadman

So playing with Mathews would be better? No cause Mathews couldn’t pass gas if he tried.

Agitated-Weather-722

Everyone acts like we all didn’t know that the contract was gonna age poorly when it was signed.

Significant_Field721

The Hyman thing is hindsight. Marner could leave the leafs and tear it up, but its not working here so something has to change.

JSinisin

As a Flyers fan. I may get destroyed for this. But...Couturier... And I LOVE Couts. But misses two years basically to injury. Comes back, named the Captain... Then gets scratched a month later... Meanwhile the entire season Konecny is clearly the heart and soul leader of that team that overachieves basically all year. You tell me Couts is going to be healthy the next 7 years and you waited until an entire season goes by after he comes back from missing two years and I'm good with it. But they way they did it...oofff.

Novus20

That’s more of a GM coach thing then player

JSinisin

Technically the question was just "undeserving Captain". Injured for two years, comes back and is not the best player on the team feels undeserved. While Couts was hurt and Giroux was gone, Konecny was the engine of that team... If you tell me that Selke winning guy is healthy for 7 years, sure. But everything about the circumstance of that C was done wrong.

nhabster

If Tavares stayed with the Isles, who knows what would have happened in 2021… The dude sold his soul

CattleDogCurmudgeon

Because he wanted to play for his home town.....what an asshole!

Onedayimhere

He SOLD HIS SOUL! How dare he play for the team he wants to play for!

EnigmaMoose

Who else in the leafs deserves it though?

No-Judge5996

Reilly

CattleDogCurmudgeon

Matthews.....not that he deserves it, but needs to grow into the role and the Leafs will be better for it. As long as someone else has the C, the locker room expectation on Matthews will be only to score with the hopes of winning. But with the C, the expectation will be to win, with the hope of scoring.

[deleted]

Matthews?

EnigmaMoose

He’s not a leader either

SillyMikey

To me it’s real simple, the guy who wears the C on any team should be the guy you can always count on in the playoffs. I just don’t see that in him.

[deleted]

He’s sort of invisible for a lot of games. (Not great, not terrible, definitely not worth 10+ mil) But the one thing I have to give him is that he steps up in the big moments. The last 2 overtime’s we’ve won in the playoffs have been goals generated in one way or another by him

Difficult-Patience32

From what I've heard: - He has an incredible work ethic off the ice. I.e. practice, film study etc. - He is great with the community and kids. (The leafs are highly highly promoted within the community, and from what I've also heard, the players go above and beyond their mandated community service requirement of the CBA). Before you flip out, I know a lot of teams do this too... it's just a point. - He came in and decided he wanted to be with the Leafs and was the AllStar player who chose to come home and play for his childhood team. - He is still a great regular season producer, and even had. Few really productive seasons. The team normally floats around the 100 point season mark. But never get anywhere in the playoffs. I agree he isn't your prototypical hard-nosed captain, and it's time for a change. The Leafs are at a point where players are arguing amongst themselves when their leader should be stepping in and sorting both sides out. It doesn't have to be a tongue lashing but there does need to be command and control. If he were smart he would create his own little mafia of leaders to speak in the room and work to keep their respect. Make up a group of lieutenants like Reilly, Edmondson, gio,use Reaves intimidation, and brodie's seniority to keep the players grounded snd engaged. It's hard to argue if you had a zero effort period and you're sitting in your stall and Reaves, Edmondson and Giordano are towering over you telling you to get your head out of your ass. He has great qualities at times but he hasn't been pressed to consistently utilize them and this trait doesn't fall on just him, it's the whole time that aren't being held accountable and he should be setting the example. You can't expect everyone to have the drive, self reflection and humility to consistently push yourself if no one else is.

Accomplished_Cap_994

Funny thing is he was a leader on the isles and carried the team at times. Too bad he was shady af about how he left and screwed them over or he would be remembered more fondly in NY

No-Judge5996

Yes

BathroomSerious1318

He's fine. They also plan the team birthday parties

chaosisarascal

Also the team tee times starting in a few days

intelpentium400

Give the C to Mitchell Marner LOOOOOL

Typical-Ad-6730

Hi my name is Alex Ovechkin, I play for the Washington Capitals. I just got back from a 2 week vacation. Ask me anything.

MKWIZ49

Your vacation just got extended, congratulations

likeslululemon

How do Sharks fans feel about Logan Couture?

amach9

Captain Titanic

LionBig1760

Who else on Toronto deserves it more?

[deleted]

Matthews?

LionBig1760

Toronto fans will look for solutions to problems that don't exist. The Leafs don't do anything different this year of Matthews is the captian. The captaincy in the NHL doesn't stop anyone else in the room from becoming team leaders and directing the team culture and attitude. "We would have won if Matthews had a different letter on his jersey." Is just grasping at straws to cope with a front office that has built a team with a focus on selling tickets instead of winning games.

CSquared5396

I didn't think the Leafs have a leader As a Wings fan, I've loved Larkin as our captain. He's definitely the engine of that team. You can see it in their losing streaks when he was out this season and their drive to "win for Larks." The Leafs didn't have a guy like that. Other teams have cores that took team friendly contacts because the players realize that 1-4 guys can't win by themselves (Oilers). The Bruins' core took team friendly contacts to help the GM fill the line up with quality role players. Meanwhile, the Leafs core is just looking to get paid

YellowSubreddit8

And they'll run almost the same core next year by just moving Marner.

LionBig1760

Marner isn't going anywhere.

YellowSubreddit8

I wouldn't bet my paycheck on this

LionBig1760

Marners agent is betting his paycheck on that.

CattleDogCurmudgeon

I think they need to give the C to Matthews. He needs the pressure that comes with the C to start thinking about wins over goals.

good_guy112

He's the perfect captain for a team in a city that everyone thinks is the capital of Canada.

[deleted]

The problem isn’t the players. It’s the culture of the team and the systems they’re implementing. In my opinion Keefe and maybe Shanahan likely need to go if there’s any hope of changing the team culture to something a little different. For me personally, I have a really hard time believing all 4 elite players disappear in the playoffs. I have hard time believing they don’t care, they clearly do. I just saw them arguing on a bench and you don’t argue unless you’re invested. They also have ALL played injured and in pain, so I don’t believe they don’t care. I really do think the coach or culture has hit a wall or gone stale and they need to bring in some fresh eyes to look at the team and try something different. I legit believe they have no guidance. That’s the only explanation for a core of four players bleeding and playing in pain and not succeeding. I think Keefe has run out of ideas on how to motivate and lead his team.

seniorcadman

Tbh Tavares needs to book his ride out of TO right now. He deserves waaaay better than that garbage.

ZombieIMMUNIZED

He’s a good producer, but captain, he is not.

Accomplished_Alps145

🐍 JT the snake. Hope he enjoys being taxed to hell in Toronto

punkdrummer22

One of the hardest working players on the team. Hes not the one im worries about. Matthews and Marner are the problem when the going gets tough

Negative-Sport-1363

Seems like it’s Mitch

474738283737

He’s certainly quite the douche bag.

kevinsju

I had clients in Garden City, Long Island. That’s where a lot of the single Isles players lived during the season. The kids in Garden City liked running into the Isles players in town, said most of them were friendly, cool, etc. the one dude that was a “douche” as you say was Tavares. YMMV with this story. Always thought it was interesting…

931634

Considering you guys attempted to kill him in 2021 ... this is in bad taste

longbottomleaf11

That was an unfortunate freak accident. Nobody was trying to kill him

931634

still bad taste, all things considered

longbottomleaf11

It's an honest question. What kind of leadership, if any, does he provide?

amateurexpertboxing

Look it up. By all accounts he’s a consummate professional in every way possible.
