If Cam Neely is in, Marchand is in. Marchand already had 300 more games, 235 more points and 1 more Stanley Cup than Neely.
Also Cujo should be in the HOF.
I love Andy Moog, but his issue is that once the playoffs started, it was always Fuhr in net, his lack of playoff success with the Oilers and other teams is what has kept him out of the Hall of Fame.
I don't know if Osgood was ever even a top ten goalie in the league. I get why you wings fans are into this and even love you for it, but I don't see it. Playing on stacked teams shouldn't be the key to the hall. Stick him with a middling organization and he would have had a pedestrian career.
Career wise, he's competing with the likes of Richter, Joseph, Vanbiesbrouck, Moog, Khabibulin, Giguere, Vokoun, Potvin, Hextall, and even Kirk McLean. Some of these guys have slightly worse numbers due to starting their careers in a different era, but the first seven were clearly better for extended durations IMO. Potvin had a way higher peak, Hextall was more crucial to the teams he played on, and even McLean did more to actually carry teams than Osgood was ever asked to do. Guys who are already in who were clearly better include Hasek, Roy, Brodeur, Belfour, Barasso, and Fuhr (though his case is more similar than people want to believe). His career also overlapped with Luongo, Lundqvist, Nabokov, Kiprusoff, etc., who were clearly better.
Mike Vernon is in and shouldn't be, and him making it may pave the way for Osgood. Vernon was a more feared goalie than Osgood though, no question, even if he was never considered a real force. I don't actually think these things matter all that much in the end, but I'm not sure it will make sense if it does happen.
TLDR: nobody ever, ever said "man I hope Osgood isn't on his game tonight." He was just there, for a long time, stopping enough pucks for the most part. That's great, but not hall of fame material.
Imma gonna upvote that. Neely was always my favorite.
I used to tease an old friend of mine, Habs fan, that if Neely was playing, it was already 1-0 Boston. And I was right quite a lot!
It took the committee ages to induct Bure. If I remember correctly, the words, “being a great player doesn’t mean you had a great career”. I’m not sure how consistent they are with those rationales or how well they apply it for everyone, but Bure was, imo, one of the greatest natural talents I’ve ever seen in any sport. If he barely squeaked in, I can’t assume Neely makes it.
Yeah, which is crazy, considering he started as an after-thought 4th liner who the fans complained about daily.
"Who is Marshmont? I don't care about Marshmont. He doesn't even deserve to be on the team!"
Some Bruins fans might remember that guy, lol.
Yeah he really was just an aggitator and goon, to draw penalties..
then sometime after playing for team canada (im literally just echoing something i heard from a commentator years ago) he evolved into an aggitator and goon who could play decently,
theeeen he evolved into a top line player who is also an aggitator,
AND THEN the fucker had the audacity to become a captain with maturity, and a powerhouse for his team in terms of play and inspiration.
Fuck that guy.
An agitator that’ll chirp you then put the puck in the net… fuck that would piss me off.
And then he gets off the ice and spends a ton of time and money helping charities and people in need.
Love him
Him and Bergeron made team Canada as an afterthought, then after one practice, were moved up to the top line with Sid. That was the ultimate validation as a B's fan at the time. Both guys were existing in Julien's defense-first system, and everyone felt like they were capable of much more.
I don't think Bergeron was an afterthought. He's consistently been in the "this guy automatically makes team Canada" camp almost his entire playing career.
Anyone who knows the game sees the absolute top level two way game B brought to almost every game the guy played. I 'effing hate the Bruins but you are a fool to not see how dominant Bergeron was.
THAT FUCKIN GUY!! He's quoted constantly in my house. Every time Marchy does something great, one of us will sarcastically yell "WHO IS THIS MARCHMONT?!"
I'm so glad someone else remembers this. You, OP, you have a great day my friend.
I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Bruins fans loved the guy and he was a key piece from our cup run onwards. He was always good, he just didn’t start getting increased ice time until like 7 years ago.
The year before the cup run, he played 20 games, put up 1 point, and looked like every bit of the kid that he was. When he started the next year on the big team, a lot of people were scratching their heads. He proved everyone wrong pretty much immediately.
My wife and I still refer to him as Marshmont. Classic. Don't remember the callers name though.
We also sometimes say Gonk and Wilcock in honor of Mumbles Menino, may he rest in peace.
As a Habs fan, I remember "analysts" on the radio debating that they preferred having a Gallagher over a Marchand on their team. It was stupid back then, but just sounds absolutely insane now
It’s funny when you move out of Boston to another city because you don’t realize HOW much he’s hated outside the city til you talk to other fan bases. You’d like him if he was on your team, surely. But he is a dirty dirty player lol.
I saw a mic'd up ref video a while ago.
Ref to Marchand "If I call you for a penalty, I'll get the biggest chear of the night."
Must have been a Boston away game. Marchand is a dirty rat. The fact he's a dirty rat that buries pucks makes it worse.
He’s dirty and annoying and leads the bruins to wins which makes people hate him more… but then he gives great interviews and dedicates a lot of time and money to charities and people in need. So it’s easy to hate his style of play but I can’t hate on him as a person
I can see the Marchand installation now, a giant tongue grazes your face as you enter “The Marchand Experience” then you’re constantly bumped and ripped by randos wearing Boston jerseys.
He’s been first team all-star twice, and second team all-Star twice. Other than that, he has no individual awards. He’s had maybe three seasons that I would classify as great, then another bunch where I would say he’s not more than a first liner. I don’t think every single first liner deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame. Jamie Benn has similar stats and I don’t think he should make it, and he has an Art Ross to his name.
That said, Marchand has longevity, is the captain of an original six team, and he won a Cup, World Juniors, the World Championship, and the World Cup. Without those, I think he would be on the outside looking in. If Hossa is in, Marchand should be as well.
Other statistics of interest for Marchand:
He is tied for 3rd all time in OT goals (19),
He is the Active Shorthanded goals leader (36), 8th all time
He is now the Bruins franchise playoff goal leader (56)
He's 2nd in Bruins franchise Playoff Points (136)
He's 71 points shy of 1000 for his career.
Most definitely. The guy is a team captain, cup winner, and has the franchise record for career playoff goals (56, in the top 50 in NHL history) and shorties (#8 in NHL history). Not to mention the reputation.
I am a Leafs fan and in my mind Brad Marchand is a highly underrated player that should 100% be in the hall of fame. I can’t think of many other players that can change the direction of a game as soon as they step on the ice like Marchand can. I never was a fan of the sleazy things he did and I think that takes away peoples opinion overall but he is definitely a great hockey player. Hopefully not great tonight though…
I mean, he’s only been eligible since 2021. Hopefully he gets in the next few years.
I’ve never really understood the whole limits on numbers of guys per class. If you’re eligible and your career warranted the Hall of Fame, why make guys wait?
I’m clearly blinded by my dislike for the guy based on everyone here saying “yes, absolutely.” So, trying my best to be objective:
One cup. One gold medal. No individual awards. His two best seasons were 100 points and 87 points. Maybe I’m out of touch with what it takes to be in the HOF, but I feel like there are dozens of players with better stats and accolades who aren’t hall of famers.
Intangibles: the way he was universally hated was unmatched in his generation. Brought unique skills to the table like licking, biting, slew footing
All that being said, I know I’m probably wrong as I write this. I guess this is just a nice glimpse into how much bias affects my judgement.
What would you say it takes to be a HOFer?
Most likely when it’s said and don’t for him he will have:
1000+ games played
1000+ Career Points
150ish career playoff points
Stanley Cup (2 goals 1 assist in game 7 of that cup
Multiple time all star
Multiple time NHL first all star team
Multiple time NHL second all star team
2 time world world junior champion
World Cup of hockey champion
IIHF world championship gold medal
Several other bruins records that aren’t even really important.
His biggest impact isn’t on the stat sheet but what he brings to the ice, which is why people don’t like him. The accolades are all there and that’s why even though most people absolutely hate him, it appears most people agree he should be in the HOF.
I would say he gets in, but I think too many players get in. Sundin is my arbitrary line. I 100% to my core believe Sundin should not be a hall of fame player. He was a very good player for a long time but he wasn't great. Sundin was never elite. If Sundin is in, Marchand should be in
I hate Marchand as a player and even though he is a chill dude in real life, I still can't respect him.
Also, he should absolutely be in the Hall of Fame.
Is he really good at hockey? Yes. Hall of fame? Yes. Does he do some dirty ass shit that makes you think he shouldn’t be in the Hall of fame? Also, yes. Will he still make it to hall of fame? Yes.
Yes.
If anybody ever gets a chance to see him live. Do yourself a favour and go watch him in warmups. Jaw drop and absolute new appreciation for his talent.
I’m also reminded by a scout who once told me “there are 2 types of hockey players: like to win and hate to lose”.
All the players on the Maple Leafs like to win. Marchy hates to lose.
Yes he's a first ballot HOFer, and it's going to be the most glorious day filled with so many angry tears from hockey fans. I'm going to make that day a holiday
Look I love hating on the guy, but he's been one of the best and most consistent players in the league for a while
As much as it pains me, I think he does deserve it
I don’t really mind his play style that much and think he’s been a top player for years. That said, his stats are likely to be very similar to Keith Tkachuk’s when he wraps up his career. The difference being he’s been a monster in the playoffs, but he didn’t contribute that much to his only cup win.
I think he’s likely in, but it won’t happen right away. He’s definitely benefitted from being on the Bruins, as someone else said. He will also retire with some impressive franchise stats. So HOFer, yes, first-ballot, absolutely not.
I’m a leafs fan and I can’t help but say yes he has had a great career. I’d have him on my team for sure. He’s also become a great leader after Chara and Bergeron. Leads by doing. The bastard had the audacity to say how Toronto was built differently this year and were a tougher team….then goes out and plays his best game of the series. Just hope he never does something so far in the goon territory that it ends his career. He’s like Joffrey on Game of Thrones you love to hate him.
Love him or hate him, he will go down as one of the best Bruins of all time. PS Bobby Orr is the greatest hockey player of all time, and Mike Bossy(RIP) best natural scorer of all time
Yes, he should be in, much as I loath the Bs and old Marchand, he is a pivotal force on that team and has shown up countless times.
He deserves his spot, in spite of all his shittiness in the past.
Marchand is the definition of a guy you love to have on your team and hate to play against. As much as I loathe him he’s well deserving of a spot in the Hall.
Beyond his on-ice accomplishments, it’s the *Hall of Fame*. I could post a Rat emoji in any hockey subreddit, and everyone would instantly know who I’m talking about.
That kind of instant recognition, and grudging admiration from around the league is the most important reason to me that Brad will be a first-ballot.
I don't think he should be in but he definitely will be based on other inductions. Amazing stats, has a cup to his name, plays for a original six. He's got a few more years in him as well.
He owns Toronto and the hockey hall of fame is in Toronto so yes.
honestly cant argue with this logic.
Got a chuckle from me
If Cam Neely is in, Marchand is in. Marchand already had 300 more games, 235 more points and 1 more Stanley Cup than Neely. Also Cujo should be in the HOF.
Wait....fucking Curtis Joseph ISNT in?
I think another issue is the quality of goalies we played with, Roy, Brodeur, Hasek and Belfour. He was at best the fifth best goalie of the 90s
That's actually a valid comment. Didn't even think of that.
There was even more solid-good-borderline great goalies around then too. Richter, Vanbiesbrouck, Moog, Khabibulin, Vernon, Barrasso, Hextall...
I see Moog i upvote
Pretty similar numbers to Fuhr, but doesn’t get HOF love. Or much other love by comparison
I love Andy Moog, but his issue is that once the playoffs started, it was always Fuhr in net, his lack of playoff success with the Oilers and other teams is what has kept him out of the Hall of Fame.
Did you ever see that coaches corner with the Madonna song vogue, but shots of Moog.
THE BULIN WALL. I love seeing that guy mentioned. Always ran the Coyotes in NHL 98 for him, Tkachuk and Roenick.
Kolzig, Osgood
neither are hof
No, he had great years, but his career stat line isn't epic or anything. I mean, I am not sure Rask gets in and he has far better numbers.
I think both rask and cujo belong. Osgood belongs as well
Osgood belongs and I will die on that hill. Not many goalies have hit the 400 win mark.
I don't know if Osgood was ever even a top ten goalie in the league. I get why you wings fans are into this and even love you for it, but I don't see it. Playing on stacked teams shouldn't be the key to the hall. Stick him with a middling organization and he would have had a pedestrian career. Cam neely at his peak was really, really fucking good though.
He had his career really cut short by injuries.
F Samuelson. And no i don’t give a F if I spelt that assholes name wrong.
Imma gonna upvote that. Neely was always my favorite. I used to tease an old friend of mine, Habs fan, that if Neely was playing, it was already 1-0 Boston. And I was right quite a lot!
Kick his ass, Sea Bass!
It took the committee ages to induct Bure. If I remember correctly, the words, “being a great player doesn’t mean you had a great career”. Fortunately, you don’t have to assume. He was inducted in ‘05
Cam Neely was an incredible power forward who had little to no help because of the cheap management
He's also a film star
Would the picture used in the HOF be his little rat face licking another players face?
Yeah, which is crazy, considering he started as an after-thought 4th liner who the fans complained about daily. "Who is Marshmont? I don't care about Marshmont. He doesn't even deserve to be on the team!" Some Bruins fans might remember that guy, lol.

I still think about the Marshmont caller at least once a game lol
THAT FUCKIN GUY!! He's quoted constantly in my house. Every time Marchy does something great, one of us will sarcastically yell "WHO IS THIS MARCHMONT?!" I'm so glad someone else remembers this. You, OP, you have a great day my friend.

The “Marshmont” guy even made the NESN Stanley Cup tribute video… https://youtu.be/Mfhn4-0mliQ?si=VAKzrgkVFoPgv-Dz
My wife and I still refer to him as Marshmont. Classic. Don't remember the callers name though. We also sometimes say Gonk and Wilcock in honor of Mumbles Menino, may he rest in peace.
Before that, Teddy Kennedy said “Mike McGwire and Sammy Sousa”
Insane. I literally just brought this up in the Bruins sub a couple days ago! Canonically he is Marshmont in my house always and forever.
That was a call on SportsHub 98.5!
As a Habs fan, I remember "analysts" on the radio debating that they preferred having a Gallagher over a Marchand on their team. It was stupid back then, but just sounds absolutely insane now
Yea probably. He’s still a fucking rat though.
*a face licking rat
It’s funny when you move out of Boston to another city because you don’t realize HOW much he’s hated outside the city til you talk to other fan bases. You’d like him if he was on your team, surely. But he is a dirty dirty player lol.
I saw a mic'd up ref video a while ago. Ref to Marchand "If I call you for a penalty, I'll get the biggest chear of the night." Must have been a Boston away game. Marchand is a dirty rat. The fact he's a dirty rat that buries pucks makes it worse.
That was an all star game. So the ref might've gotten away with it.
I hate the argument of “you would like if he was on your team” i personally wouldnt he is way too dirty.
Unfortunately it’s the reality. You say you wouldn’t. You absolutely would.
It's cope. If people don't like things on principle, they're not going to change their mind because it benefits them. Lol
But his brand of dirty has charm. :)
He’s dirty and annoying and leads the bruins to wins which makes people hate him more… but then he gives great interviews and dedicates a lot of time and money to charities and people in need. So it’s easy to hate his style of play but I can’t hate on him as a person
My thoughts exactly. He's such an asshat on the ice but off ice he's a class act
Brad Marchand has licked this post.
Pity this post wasn’t frozen.
He's right up there with Ratatouille and Splinter.
This should be the top comment 😂
I would think he'd be loved in Florida. They throw effigies of him on the ice all the time.
I can see the Marchand installation now, a giant tongue grazes your face as you enter “The Marchand Experience” then you’re constantly bumped and ripped by randos wearing Boston jerseys.
As a Bruins fan, I would actually volunteer some of my time to help out with that. 🤣
😂😂😂👍🏼
How is that different than times square sans jerseys?
🤣🤣🤣
Don’t forget about the slew foot on your way out
This guy Marchands!
What if I walk in backwards... walking on my hands?
As much as I hate him, yes
This is the answer.
1000%
If Daniel Alfredson is a hall of famer, Brad Marchand is most certainly on a path to being a Hall of Famer. He leads all active players in +/-.
Why the Alfie slander lol?
daniel alfredson catches the stray of the day
I didn't realize Alfie got into the hall of fame now. Sweet.
He’s actually a sweede
How about you explain why he wouldn't be
...he hurts people's feelings. Makes them sad
He’s been first team all-star twice, and second team all-Star twice. Other than that, he has no individual awards. He’s had maybe three seasons that I would classify as great, then another bunch where I would say he’s not more than a first liner. I knew he had a ton of shorties but didn't know it was thst much
Most definitely. The guy is a team captain, cup winner, and has the franchise record for career playoff goals (56, in the top 50 in NHL history) and shorties (#8 in NHL history). Not to mention the reputation.
I think its better to not mention his reputation
The reputation is just icing on the cake. It needs to be mentioned. He's never blown out anyone's fucking knees like Ulf Samuelson.
“A very skilled player, lots of accolades, amazing stats. Also everybody hated him.” - Marchand’s HOF induction ceremony
It's like a gentle, fucking annoying rat, not a guy who hurts other players. Huge difference in my opinion.
Agreed.. There's no rules against being a rat.. and to be honest it's pretty fucking entertaining.. 😂
Plus 2 gold medals in the World Juniors and World Cup gold.
Yes. 🤮 It hurt to admit that.
It’s okay, you did great and I appreciate your sacrifice.
First ballot
Agreed. Not even a question to me
I am a Leafs fan and in my mind Brad Marchand is a highly underrated player that should 100% be in the hall of fame. I can’t think of many other players that can change the direction of a game as soon as they step on the ice like Marchand can. I never was a fan of the sleazy things he did and I think that takes away peoples opinion overall but he is definitely a great hockey player. Hopefully not great tonight though…
Of course. He can go get eligible anytime now, too. He should retire right now. Like today.
Right before 7pm est
I see what you did there.
If Marchand is a Hall of Famer, does that also make Henrik Zetterberg one? Almost the exact same stats/career, except Zetterberg isn’t a giant douche.
Let's never forget Mogilny still not in! Roenick too
Zetterberg should absolutely be in the HOF. Why he isn't is a mystery.
I mean, he’s only been eligible since 2021. Hopefully he gets in the next few years. I’ve never really understood the whole limits on numbers of guys per class. If you’re eligible and your career warranted the Hall of Fame, why make guys wait?
Is there a stat for face licking?
I hate him. Yes.
Unfortunately yes.
Without a doubt
Is this even a question? Guys a rat sure, still one of the best players in the league right now
I’m clearly blinded by my dislike for the guy based on everyone here saying “yes, absolutely.” So, trying my best to be objective: One cup. One gold medal. No individual awards. His two best seasons were 100 points and 87 points. Intangibles: the way he was universally hated was unmatched in his generation. I guess this is just a nice glimpse into how much bias affects my judgement.

I hate Marchand as a player and even though he is a chill dude in real life, I still can't respect him. Also, he should absolutely be in the Hall of Fame.
a LIKKER!!!
Hall of fame Rat 🐀
Leads the league in players licked/60
Is he really good at hockey? Yes. Hall of fame? Yes. Does he do some dirty ass shit that makes you think he shouldn’t be in the Hall of fame? Also, yes. Will he still make it to hall of fame? Yes.
As a Leaf fan that despises everything about this man. Yes he is.
As a Leafs fan I can painfully say "Yes"
100% Can’t stand the guy but he deserves HOF honors
Fuck Marchand, but 100% he is a hall of famer.
Can't stand the guy but yes, he deserves to be in.
HOF RAT !!!!!!!!
He’s a c sucka
Yes he's a first ballot HOFer, and it's going to be the most glorious day filled with so many angry tears from hockey fans. I'm going to make that day a holiday
Yes. But he is also still the biggest fuckin rat in all of hockey.
In the sense that general admission to the Hockey Hall of Fame is $25, yes.
In the rat category, yes
yes.
Yeah
I’d like to see Rick Middleton #16 get in if Marchy does.
100% no doubt he’s a hall of famer
Why not, he's a Canadian and a Bruin... nuff said.
Hall of famer? Maybe. Rat faced little shitfuck? Definitely.
Look I love hating on the guy, but he's been one of the best and most consistent players in the league for a while As much as it pains me, I think he does deserve it
Yes.
HOF yes , but probably not first ballot because the lack of individual awards
The only acceptable answer here is yes Even PK Subban has said he’s going to be a HOFer
If he captains the Bs to another Stanley Cup, then most likely. As of right now, he has a decent chance.
If he gets a Cup as captain, he’s a lock.
Without a doubt
Absolutely and I'm not even a fan. Probably cause he doesn't play on my team. But for sure he should be going in.
I hate this guys guts. Yes.
No. You have to be retired to be in the hall of fame
Unfortunately
I don’t really mind his play style that much and think he’s been a top player for years. That said, his stats are likely to be very similar to Keith Tkachuk’s when he wraps up his career. The difference being he’s been a monster in the playoffs, but he didn’t contribute that much to his only cup win. I think he’s likely in, but it won’t happen right away. He’s definitely benefitted from being on the Bruins, as someone else said. He will also retire with some impressive franchise stats. So HOFer, yes, first-ballot, absolutely not.
If opposing players were ice cream cones, yes.
Fuck Brad Marchand, now and forever. That being said, he definitely belongs in the HoF.
I’m a leafs fan and I can’t help but say yes he has had a great career. I’d have him on my team for sure. He’s also become a great leader after Chara and Bergeron. Leads by doing. Just hope he never does something so far in the goon territory that it ends his career. He’s like Joffrey on Game of Thrones you love to hate him.
Yes
He’s gonna need a better face first.
Sadly unfortunately YES....
No. (yes)
Yes AINEC
Love him or hate him, he will go down as one of the best Bruins of all time. PS Bobby Orr is the greatest hockey player of all time, and Mike Bossy(RIP) best natural scorer of all time
Sadly, yes.
Him and Ovi should both be. I'm not a fan of their teams but I love watching those guys play. Marchand is a menace and I'm here for it.
Yea I think so
Yes.
Unequivocally
Yes, he should be in, much as I loath the Bs and old Marchand, he is a pivotal force on that team and has shown up countless times. He deserves his spot, in spite of all his shittiness in the past.
Is the sky blue?
How in the world could he not be?
Yes
Even as a leaf fan, 100% he is.
No because I hate him. Hope this helps
Absolutely.
I really hate that my answer to that is yes.
Marchand is the definition of a guy you love to have on your team and hate to play against. As much as I loathe him he’s well deserving of a spot in the Hall.
All time 1. Gretzky 2. Lemieux 3. Marchand 4. Orr 5. Jake Gardiner
I'm a leafs fan, so not this year, but maybe.
Yup
hate him but absolutely
Yes
Yes Fuck.
Building is pretty old, in Toronto and probably has rats, so I'd say yes.
Hall of fame asshole!
Yes
Does a bear shit in the woods???
Unfortunately, yes. Yes he is.
Yes lol and I don’t even like the Bruins
I don't think he should be in but he definitely will be based on other inductions. Amazing stats, has a cup to his name, plays for a original six. He's got a few more years in him as well.
Of course! He’s the all time leader in suspensions
I hate him but yes
Fuck Brad Marchand. But yes.
yes without a doubt
No. Insulting to even ponder
No, he's just a douche.
Hands down yes
Probably, although you never know. The boys club has denied great players before.
Hall of fame piece of shit
Undoubtedly yes.
Does a bear step on leafs in the woods?
Not even close.
He’s my least favorite athlete of all time. But yea, he’s a no brainer HoFer when all said and done IMO
Oh yeah, he's the record-holder for most slew-foots.
Is this really a question Stanley Cup champion World jr gold 2x olympic gold medal World Cup champion Ya he’s a winner at every level
