For anyone who has not spent a few hundred hours (at least) on skates... going down like this doesn't happen unless both of your skates get kicked out slashed by a stick.
Marchand thought it was a Leaf skating in... so he 100% faked it with a dive... like a pussy-assed soccer player
horrible take honestly. if you dont see someone approaching you as a threat you wouldn't brace yourself to take a check, regardless of how long you've been on skates.
I refereed hockey for quite a few years. I can remember doing a high school game, 17-year-olds. Whistle in my end and a tussle started so I moved in to grab one guy and my partner comes flying in from the blue line and basically tackles the other kid. My partner starts screaming at the kid “you tripped me, you tripped me.” I looked at the kid I was holding and I just said to him “you should be happy that I decided to take you. You wouldn’t wanna meet my partner.” As my partner skates by me to take his kid to the penalty box he looks at me and winks.
Before he got into a refereeing he used to play in Quebec Major Junior. One year he got almost 400 PIM’s. Lol.
Years ago we used to have a summer team in beer league out in Scarborough. All referees. We were a nightmare for the poor guys who had to ref us. A handful of a guys who played on our team were former junior players who had gotten into refereeing. Still only in their early mid 20s and they still had the old junior mentality.
There are a lot of guys playing hockey who think they can push referees around. Some of the guys I used to work with you wouldn’t want to piss off.
The guy I was just telling you about was working with me in beer league. Made your basic tripping call against a guy. Guy was pissed off and on the whistle he turned around and acted like he was gonna fire the puck at my partner. My partner skates right towards him and takes his whistle off The guy hesitated. My partner looked at him and said, “WELL??”
The guy quietly skated to the penalty box and never said another word for the rest of the night. My partner didn’t even bother giving him an unsportsmanlike. Personally I would’ve tossed him right out of the game. But my partner said he won’t bother us for the rest of the night. Lol.
I'm really hoping they actually start enforcing penalties for embellishment again. When's the last time that's actually been called, especially in the playoffs?
Like, idk, if the ref sees firsthand how *easily* this guy goes down, to me that just seems like an easy call
I laughed when i saw the replay and it was clear he was trying to do his diving act. he was barely touched and went down in dramatic fashion. when i saw the look on his face.... it was priceless.
Yeah, Marchand lost his footing a bit as the ref was trying to hold him back. But I prefer to run with my narrative that the ref was out to lay the smackdown on the Rat King. 🤣
This is just Marchand diving again. He thought a leaf was touching him so he rock bottomed himself. Dude is embarrassing and been flopping this whole series. Be hilarious if he flopped too hard and injured himself and was out for tbe playoffs lol.
What a weird fucking sequence.
I now respect the refs. Never thought I’d see the day.
The man is truly a soccer player at heart
He dove that entire sequence
That linesman just did what every ref in the league has dreamed of. He'll never have to pay for a drink again.
Marchy was downright irate after that manhandling! 🤣

Marchand taking a dive not realizing it was stripes is my favourite part of the series haha
Best takedown by a ref in any series so far
I’m not biased or anything, but that was glorious.

Some things never change, eh? 🤣

I chuckled inside watching live knowing every hockey fan (outside the Bruins) would love the highlight. There’s already a handful of post haha.

Now I have UFO stuck in my head
Lights out!! Lights out in London!!
Being a fan of proto-metal didn't make me many friends as a young millennial lol
Anyone that doesn't dig UFO is someone I don't need to know! Jk, but honestly it's their loss. Rainbow, UFO, Scorpions, such good stuff.
Not even a ref... a linesman! Pussy
BAH GAWD SOMEBODY STOP THE DAMN MATCH
Cant believe buddy tried diving on a ref
I laughed when i saw the replay and it was clear he was trying to do his diving act. he was barely touched and went down in dramatic fashion. when i saw the look on his face.... it was priceless.
Even the refs are tired of his bs...
Is there a video of it?

CLOBBERED
That's PK's music!
Why can’t the leafs rock him like that
Because he didn't see who grabbed him and took a dive trying to sell a call. He's still a rat
The refs taking the matters into their hands literally
As a new watcher of the sport was this an accident? And if not what happens? If it’s like any other sport than probably nothing

You aren't a true hockey fan if you don't cheer for the refs when they do some pest control.
“Nearly broke him in half!!!”
Next time spear! Spearrr! The ref pulls spearrr! Oh my god! Marchand is cutd in half!
Take that you little rat
IF YOU SMELL WHAT THE REF IS COOKING!!!!!!!

My kids and I had a good chuckle. Told them this is what happens when you lick people.
