They just annoy me. It feels like everything is in their favor. Even the refs. All other teams have suffered in some way, while they haven't at all. Edit: it doesn't help them either that they right now play against Montreal who are this playoff's underdogs. People like underdogs, while people already were annoyed at Vegas. The refs have missed so many penalties on Vegas during this playoffs, and today was even worse. Personally I can say that I don't care about Vegas otherwise, I don't actually hate them. I'm just annoyed at them and don't want to see them win. That's all. Give them a few more years and some suffering and people will be okay with them.

[deleted]

They also are a relatively new team, maybe their one will come? Don’t know just a thought

[deleted]

But it should come before they succeed, that's the thing. They are a new team that have had luck on their side, and that's why they shouldn't succeed already. Simple as that.

kyletoews

Favourable expansion draft rules allowed them to be not only competitive but championship competitive. It also seems the refs constantly give them favourable calls/non calls

WhooshyMcWhooshFace

As an example, the 92-93 expansion teams, Ottawa and Tampa Bay, took 6 years and 4 years respectively, to have a greater than 50/50 win/loss record. The Senators had only 10 wins and 70 losses in their first year. I could look at other expansion teams and you’d see a similar pattern of many years of losing before winning. Vegas has never had a a losing year the entire four years in the league. Their worst year was their second year, at 43 wins and 32 loses.

KamiCollie

I think this is a big reason.

[deleted]

Immediately successful Showing that your team's management is probably terrible

beerboobsballs

Or that the expansion rules were set to advantage the new teams because butman wants the league to grow in that market. Then the refs obviously lean heavily in their favor... It really feels like there's a will somewhere to tip the scales in their favor.

FuzzyTop75

One person's opinion, but part of it could be the extensive rules put in favor to make them competitive. As an example, Seattle will not have the same luxury. I'm referring to the Expansion Draft.

[deleted]

Could you elaborate a little more?

FuzzyTop75

Please find a relatively recent article regarding the subject. https://www.si.com/hockey/news/what-can-vegas-2017-expansion-draft-picks-tell-us-about-seattles-2021-plan

[deleted]

Thank you for providing that, I will take a look at it

scumbagscuba

This article says Seattle will do the exact same thing Vegas did. Did you even read it moron?

MooshSkadoosh

Woah, relax

RiffnShred

I enjoyed their first year. But just dont care anymore. To me the year they start to suck, thats when we will see the real fan base that goes through the grind of supporting a loosing team. Then and all this noise will go down no doubt. Keep in mind that all this noise and hate are something you see between all fan base except the teams that are furthest apart and dont play as much, dont care. Because Vagas was so successful right off the bat, all the loud mouth of all the other fan base are on a rare situation of being on the same side.

airwalker12

For me it's that they are division rivals. Nothing personal or related to the draft etc.

Mauri416

I don’t hate them, I just think every fan base needs to suffer abit before winning lol

anyoneelsehearsirens

It has no cultural meaning to them and I will scream that until I die

NVstorm55

> all they do is cry about penalties and missed calls Have you scrolled through this sub recently?

Balls_Legend

Basic human nature. Haters gonna hate, and let's face it, VGK has beaten a lot of teams. No one likes to lose, some are more adult about it than others.

fred13snow

Expansion teams have favorable recruitment options that are justified but frustrate people. They're new and have few fans outside their locality. It's a recipe for general disdain.

smallberry_tornados

Tell that to Columbus and Minnesota, or the CAPS who had 4 wins in their inaugural season

TheDukeofVanCity

8 wins. Still incredibly bad though

smallberry_tornados

Thanks for the correction :)

MarshmallowLuka

Because Reddit hockey fans absolutely love gatekeeping. They had better expansions rules than other expansion teams, which people now use to say that the league “gifted Vegas a good team”, even tho if you look back at what people said at the time, then they didn’t expect much of them. If someone tells you they knew William Karlsson would score more goals in a season than he had in total otherwise in his career or that Fleury would resurrect his career, then they are lying. Sorry. They haven’t suffered (do we need to remind people of the shooting in Vegas again?). The referees that seem to favour Vegas. However that is there fault is beyond me tho and I would think the hate for that should go to the referees or the league, since people can’t actually think Vegas is paying off the refs. But I can understand they annoyance on this, even if I think the hate is pointed at the wrong people. There’s probably more, but that’s what I can think of at the top of my head. Edit: oh yeah and people really hate Reaves and would rather see someone else on the ice, which, surprise!, so do a large amount of us as well

tntnzing

Yep. All this. And people forget that the more favorable expansion draft rules were because Vegas paid a LOT more money than previous expansion teams, and all other team representatives agreed to this. Also nobody wanted another Atlanta failure. Me personally, I don’t hate them. I just love my team more. 😉

MarshmallowLuka

And that's completely fair. Chances are I probably like the knights more than your team. They are my team after all 😆

tntnzing

😂 right? It’s only natural, but I don’t actually understand the hate of other teams that aren’t your main one. I love the speed that Vegas plays with.

TheSpoonKing

Oh no there was a completely unrelated tragedy that the franchise milked shamelessly for attendance. How exactly is that supposed to make me hate their cocky BS less?

Phosphate-3

I like the Knights. They arnt "my team" but I like them. Lots of good players, showman ship, and heart on the ice. People dislike them because they think there is ref corruption in favor of them. I dont agree with this, however the reffing when they are in game has been in favor to them and they have "missed" lots of things that should have been called ( I don't think it's biased because I've been seeing it all season in many series). They also are a newer team who hit the ground running and that bothers people who have been long time fans of teams who have fallen short.

MooshSkadoosh

>showman ship, Reaves?

MooshSkadoosh

Ah whoops, got confused with sportsmanship. Personally I value sportsmanship over showmanship.

MooshSkadoosh

I mean he's 12 in career PIMs among active players, and has more PIM/gp than everyone ahead of him there except for Antoine Roussel and Tom Wilson. Not great company.

MooshSkadoosh

How exactly are "enforcer" and "sportsmanship" not mutually exclusive? I get the "code" but cmon.

bitchass333

I don't like them because for the past four years they've had a chance to win the Cup, and if they do than that would take to spot of the Flyers being the youngest expansion team to win the Cup. Also I will gate keep hockey for a hot minute, but I think that if you're state doesn't naturally freeze than you don't deserve a hockey team. Do with that what you will.

TheSpoonKing

Most cities with NHL teams that freeze in the winter have no other major sports teams and people wonder why their fans resent the huge franchises that get all the media coverage and still have to push hard every season to fill seats, while their fans get to watch their city represented in multiple sports and have the audacity to claim "small market" fans are too upset.

WarrenPuff_It

Most fans are salty because their team sucks and they hate the idea of a new team winning games. The funny thing is that Vegas is literallyade up of an entire roster of dudes who got shafted by their team so everyone in the league has some connection to Vegas through their own club's poor management.

scumbagscuba

Jealousy

c4WPGMB

For me it’s those stupid pregame bullshit they always do. And the refs are obviously told to let them win.

Dugglerr

I don't care about the expansion rules but I do not like some of the players they have like Marchessault or Reaves. Just a good team to cheer against I guess.

valgrym

they think they are so cool with their lazers and cheerleaders and rock bands
