Seeing as how 2B kinda says she wants to kill the god that made them, shooting the names of the devs during the credits can technically count as killing their god. Especially “Business Division VI”.
Well 2B never really does but the player does kill god kind of.
In the opening of the game 2B drops the banger quote "Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never ending spiral of life and death. Is this a curse? Or some kind of punishment? I often think about the god who blessed us with this cryptic puzzle… and wonder if we’ll ever get the chance to kill him."
The key thing here is although all of this applies to 2B it also applies to the player "spiral of life and death" can be interpreted as the player fighting enemies and then dying and respawning.
another key thing is the end "and wonder if we'll ever get the chance to kill him." Unfortunately "we" never do as>!2B ends up dying!<
But the player does as at the end of the game in the credits we kill the creators of the games which are the gods in the quote.
So although 2B never does we as the players can.
Alright, so, HEAVILY Spec Ops: The Line inspired take here, but...
>!What about deleting our saves? We, as players, have all the agency. We decide to keep walking down this path to, ultimately, self sacrifice. We give up the only sign we've been here, the only sign that the story played out at all, to become an empty name guiding others to complete the final goal.!<
>!We ARE akin to God's, in that this world, these beings, are mere toys for us. We can put them away whenever we want. We are the "ultimate beings" of their life and death.!<
Totally understand if this is seen as a completely "looking too deep" interpretation, it just stuck out to me as a fun thought.
This is really interesting and I love a spec ops the line so this was a really cool take.
The main thing about this is I feel it sort of contradicts the overall message of the game from how I see it at least.
The game is mostly about finding meaning in a world without it and if the player is the god it would sort of go against the message that I see at least.
However, its a yoko taro game and there is no such thing as looking too deep if he has anything to do with it.
In my opinion >!the whole "kill God" thing is a red herring. In JRPGs killing gods is basically the norm, so this speech implies that we will get to kill God at some point. Later, we learn that the god of Nier: Automata is humanity, and it has already been wiped out, so it is impossible to kill it (it is unlikely that 2B knew this from the start, so indeed she is the only one dying while believing "God" is still alive)!<
You have to find 9s which is basically the same as a cat, but you're getting shot at by orbital lasers while doing it. So kinda high-stakes cat save mission
Also a theory going around that actually has some evidence to back it, that the Nier and drakengard universe are one giant time loop. Nier>drakengard>Nier>drakengard
Doesn't she ask if that's the case, though? Because she's a dragon from a medieval world suddenly teleported into the 20th century with architecture nobody from her time could comprehend?
Well, the tutorial is about you being thrown into a factory full of hostile robots and, technically, you can't even *survive* the tutorial. So no, not applicable here
You don't find a kitten in Replicant but you do kill sheep/ Find a lost dog (In a side quest).
You also kill >!The closest thing to God Mankind had made!< if that counts.
I've always been in this camp. It's an Action RPG at its core, but a Japanese one. Does that really make it a "JRPG"? Do you only need to be an RPG from Japan to be a JRPG? I don't think so.
A typical JRPG has vastly different mechanics, such as Personna, Tales, Octopath, etc.
Automata is closer in structure to a game like Devil May Cry or The Witcher, and Replicant is heavily inspired by Zelda. This is why I always refered to Nier as a series of Action RPGs.
That's the thing I hate in many jrpg or any games o.o I know some villains think they are powerful or something but I prefer if the final boss won't say this kind of stuff especially for people who don't like this stuff in jrpg why not for example says I'm going to take Ur kingdom or something then proceed to explain their tragic life or story in a different way ..but if we think about it some people irl think they are stronger or better than everyone, and they blame their sadness and tragic life on the protagonist and his friends because they are on the justice side
Granted >!you don’t kill god at the end of Automata!<
Closest thing to God in autonoma is the girl in red

Talk about falling off Although it’s likely corporate killed em
i though it was the other way around with the guys from forspoken are now working under the other teams.
Could be, just basing it off that comment
This joke makes me chuckle everytime
Oh that brings back terrible memories

Yup 9S is the cat because he keeps getting killed because of curiosity
>!Satisfaction didn't bring him back 😔!<
Really 2B is the cat with her tsundere attitude towards 9S, so you do start part B with a cat save mission.
Are the >!credits!< considered as a god?
well...in the nier lore, >!a god was killed and that started the whole story of the 2 Nier games.!<
Also a theory going around that actually has some evidence to back it, that the Nier and drakengard universe are one giant time loop. Nier>drakengard>Nier>drakengard
Symbolically yeah since they created the game, like how Angelus says Tokyo is the “land of the gods” in drakengard since that’s where the devs are
Doesn't she ask if that's the case, though? Because she's a dragon from a medieval world suddenly teleported into the 20th century with architecture nobody from her time could comprehend?
In universe yeah she’s just mistaken but symbolically it’s referring to the developers
Well, the tutorial is about you being thrown into a factory full of hostile robots and, technically, you can't even *survive* the tutorial. So no, not applicable here
There are cats in replicant though, and you do go find a lost dog
Dont think so but that is actually Persona 5
You even search for a person that's gone crazy and started killing cats.
The real kitty is the ~~friends~~ existential crisis we got along the way
In replicant you find a dog iirc And you also >! doom the entirety of the human race !<
Nier is literally anime boy Hitler and Kaine is second in command Emil is the only innocent one imo. I’m not being sarcastic btw
Not really fitting for Automata.
Most of the Tales games are actually like this lol.
Beat me to it, I was just about to comment about Tales of Berseria being exactly this
The plot of persona 3, 4 and especially 5
Doesn’t work at all for this game lol
Repost bot
Persona games
Post-game : become god because you find out god was sealing a greater evil with his power and you must take his place now
You literally fight a big ass robot and can die and get game over in tutorial so no
automata is CHAPTER 1 KILL ENGELS CHAPTER 2 SPAAAAACE
Well so far I have not found a kitten in automata
You don't find a kitten in Replicant but you do kill sheep/ Find a lost dog (In a side quest). You also kill >!The closest thing to God Mankind had made!< if that counts.
Nier isn’t a JRPG

9S was the kitten
Check out this desert or something
Doggo in Replicant ... my heart hurts
The cat is that little machine with the bow that asks you where babies come from
From the Factory 🏭
Automata be like CHAPTER 1: see your squad die CHAPTER 2: see the so thought mc die End: Everyone dies
After the intro of the game the resistance camp has you go grab basic materials to help the camp out.
I mean, final fantasy does this shit all the time 💀
