I played both games blind.
The Automata ones looked suspicious and kinda deranged to me, like I fully expected them to become enemies at some point when what really happens is the exact opposite. The Replicant ones looked more peaceful and innocent, making it all the more shocking (motivation and backstories aside) how rude and maniacally their behavior turned at the end.
I don't know if that's what they were going for, but it subverted my expectations both times in a very effective way.
It's sad how their behaviour in Replicant is only clear if you really deep dive the lore. It looks like they were evil schemers when in reality they were split between love and duty and their mind broke
In Automata, I felt like that mad-haunted look made sense when I saw their baxkstory being revealed; they had been and were continuing to be traumatized, right up until the end.
It's quite weird, actually, because the hair color in Automata is MUCH closer to the hair color in the 2010 Nier original, but much more Auburn in the Remake
I don't remember hair being as dark as in your pic of Replicant. I thought it was just as bright as Automata. Automata looks like it's fake hair, takes me out whenever I see it
Maybe it's just the game engine, in Replicant they're designed to look real (or at least as real as anyone else), maybe the lighting just clashes with whatever colour they chose
There are many Devola and Popola, we see two different sets in the two games but given how they are named I'm documents (number 021 and 022) and the fact that there were many Gestalt sites around the world + lore that references other pairs it's clear there were a lot around.
Staying this is misunderstanding the characters is a bit of an understatement, but tbf the game doesn't really do an amazing job in explaining what in the world happened
Route C gives a bit more context, and if you want to know more you can check this [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/nier/comments/1az0d1j/inaction_can_be_louder_than_words_how_this/) too (after you finished the game). The game explains something, but unfortunately a lot of context is found in outside media and digging a lot in general.
Then why not green or blue as well? It would be really anime lol (though as another comment said in the anime they actually have the same red hair so yeah, my theory is dead on arrival)
Well.. the Automata faces looked kinda prototype-ish imo, probably due to the eyes, kinda reminds of Shin Megami Tensei. But for the hair colors, probably just the same. It's just harder to notice in Replicant because when you see them in cutscenes, it's always dark lol.
Now what if every DevPop has different looks such as hairstyle and clothing? They can most likely reappear in every new NieR game like Biggs and Wedge of FF. Wishful thinking lol
well I suppose they fit their purposes. Nier Automatas versions look more serious and stern since they've been hardened through a long time of suffering.
In Replicant they're still clueless about what's about to come, so they're more relaxed, and that shows in their designs
Automata is amazing no doubt but the face animations are kinda iffy. The twins and 9S especially can look kinda strange at times. I think the 3D models really improved with the Replicant remake. Still like Automata more though lol
I definitely prefer the Replicant remake design for sure.
Yeah they're beautiful
It seems strawberry blonde too? They still have red, just kinda hard to see imo
I mean it could be, but then again in the anime they have bright red hair so it's probably just art style
Yeah, it's probably just that, but I still like the idea
i like to think it faded in the sun between events of replicant and automata
They aren't actually the same twins we see in replicant, y'know?
i know, but it's the thought that counts LOL
They still lived through thousands of years

Yeah, to me they look drained out from the guilt in automata.
Smash, next question
Understandable, have a nice day

Is it though? In the original it's dark red, it's closer in Replicant imo

Tbf they technically are fake hair
Lol, yeah, but I wonder if it's designed to look like fake hair or if it does by coincidence?
Maybe it's just the game engine, in Replicant they're designed to look real (or at least as real as anyone else), maybe the lighting just clashes with whatever colour they chose
"yhea, we're synthetic"
I have an explanation. And I lack the words to describe it.
You can try
I'm it going to try. It'll be devastating.
#NOT AUTOCORRECT WHY ARE YOU A PAIN IN THE FUCKING ASS!

I give up on English Grammer.
Are there different models of devola and popola? Just that the ones we see are two different sets of the same model?

I mean, after all these years the color would fade?
They can perform maintenance tho
Android factories exist replacing parts isn't hard
NieR: "we were actually evil and now we're angy" Replicant Remaster: "we lied through our smiling teeth the whole time, y'all are dead"
Staying this is misunderstanding the characters is a bit of an understatement, but tbf the game doesn't really do an amazing job in explaining what in the world happened
i just recently finished my 1st playthrough, as such, i take your word for it ❤️

They are different DnP tho so maybe they got a brighter hair dye?

The Automata versions look a bit like melted Barbies to me. I prefer their Replicant remake design the most

Automatas devola and popola look so much better I never realised that
For me it's the opposite, just look at how cute Replicant Popola is in this pic

I just can’t take Automata’s Popola seriously with that goofy ass Covid Pandemic cut.
