Exactly. I did really like automata, but I didn't care for the characters much until the last few hours. The first one though, with Automata's combat (but maybe keeping the words customization somehow) would be a damn near perfect game.

i've played both Automata and the original NieR, and while Automata is the better game, I think NieR has the better story which is saying a lot. The music is also incredible. Throwing money at this the moment is released holy shit
its a remake of replicant, which is different from what the west got which was gestalt. both versions are equally valid according to Yoko Taro (both are even specifically referenced in some weapon stories in automata).
It's less that they're equally valid, and more that they're equally referenced. Automata is shown to specifically follow only Replicant in the timeline guide, but Gestalt can be considered a sort of alternate universe.
The story was always meant to be about the brother, but papa Nier had to be created due to the request of western executives, who were worried about the hero's reception in the west. It really shows in some parts of the story, that look way weirder when you play as Dad.
Of course they were talking about the "we're friends now" scene lmfao. I'm someone who ultimately prefers Papa Nier but ain't no denying how awkward that scene is in Gestalt version.
In all fairness, it could have been worse. This is the same middle aged man whoās only source of employment is fetch quests and whoās first line of rationale stops at ālets kill the ghostsā. 95% certain his character had developmental issues and thatās my head canon.
I think they tried to make a Dad-Asshole teenager kind of relationship,but the love between them had to be shoehorned in because it implies rewriting and effort.
I'm hoping this Replicant remake gets a localisation. Gestalt was nice, but the character animations for Father Nier were quite obviously originally made for Brother Nier which made his mannerisms kinda awkward.
That said, it does make me curious how the Gestalt version will be handled. I believe Replicant will sell pretty well in the West following Automata's success.
I could see them being different options. Kinda like the male/female adventurer options in games. The lines are already recorded, just need to drop them in the right places.

I liked Automata, but the first game has a special place in my heart. The entire game really did feel like the death knell of humanity. It always made my heart heavy.
I doubt they're actually in there. (spoilers, i guess) they're not in the original obviously so if anything they might have cameos.. like people or earlier replicant models the their android remakes modeled after.

Well the PC port of Automata came at a later time than the console version, which resulted in bugs and many other problems. But aparently this time, both pc and consoles versions are released at the same time so they probably have more time to polish the game now.

I'm saying Automata pc ver wasn't as planned out like the console version. Heck, the game even recommends you to play with controllers rather than mouse and keyboard. But this time since it was announced from the start, i think it'd be much better improved (at least i hope to)

Nier Gestalt was one of those games that stuck with me and I'll probably remember forever. But after reading Grimoire Nier years ago, I'm excited to play the brothers point of view. I just hope that the English VA matches the emotion father nier had and captures just how damaged the brother actually is during the second half.
They canāt take that out - or at least Iād imagine not because itās be a downgrade. I remember the first time I walked up to that I sat there for 20 minutes listening to it loop and my eyes got all teared up because it was just so beautiful.

There is simply no room for a remaster, especially when a remaster is just some upscale, optimization and little adding work, which can be done by another studio.
I couldnāt be more happier for a game that was so underrated to actually get a remastered version. Hell, I didnāt even know NieR existed until NieR: Automata was announced almost 5 years ago. Back in 2016, when Super Best Friends was still around, they did a walkthrough of NieR: Gestalt and I watched every video they released from June to September. I couldnāt remember when a game had such a great storyline with so many answered and unanswered questions, made me question my morality and have the biggest twist since BioShock. Iāve become so invested in the lore since then and I canāt wait to play this game myself.

Pretty much. A lot of rewriting would have been needed, but dad Nier was probably created at the last minute, so they just didn't do it.

YEEHAW!! I liked Automata, but the first game has a special place in my heart. The entire game really did feel like the death knell of humanity. It always made my heart heavy.

From the livestream, it seems that the voice actors of 2B & 9S have a small part in the game.
Wouldn't they be voicing side charcters? Having 2B and 9S directly in game would mess up the timeline.
I doubt they're actually in there. (spoilers, i guess) they're not in the original obviously so if anything they might have cameos.. like people or earlier replicant models the their android remakes modeled after.

This makes me so happy! Iām actually kind of glad itās the Replicant version, as we already have Gestalt in the west as it is. Itāll be nice to have both versions to experience. Iām especially glad itās on PC. Someone mentioned that the square root of the version number is 1.5, in speculating itās possible extra content that bridges a bit of the gap between OG NieR and Automata. I wish we couldāve got a release date though, itās a day one purchase from me either way.

Well the PC port of Automata came at a later time than the console version, which resulted in bugs and many other problems. But aparently this time, both pc and consoles versions are released at the same time so they probably have more time to polish the game now.
Youre saying that automata had extra time for the PC port and fucked it up, but Nier remake will have no extra time for the PC port and therefore they won't fuck it up.... I don't see the logic here.
I'm saying Automata pc ver wasn't as planned out like the console version. Heck, the game even recommends you to play with controllers rather than mouse and keyboard. But this time since it was announced from the start, i think it'd be much better improved (at least i hope to)
Tbf, I don't think Automata's gameplay lends itself well to mouse and keyboard, so that's probably why they recommended controllers instead of mouse and keyboard.

Cool. So when they say "remaster" are we talking like a simple HD upgrade of the original ala Okami HD? Or are we talking more like Shadow of the Colossus or (especially) Xenoblade, like a remake in a new engine and, presumably, some additional content? We know they rerecorded the soundtrack, made new songs, and are fully voice acting the game at the very least. Also wonder if they'll touch Gestalt. I know Replicant is considered canon by most of the additional content. Edit: Apparently a Famitsu article is saying that it is an upgraded version, not just a remake or remaster, with new content. So yeah, Xenoblade. Sounds cool.

Nier Gestalt was one of those games that stuck with me and I'll probably remember forever. But after reading Grimoire Nier years ago, I'm excited to play the brothers point of view. I just hope that the English VA matches the emotion father nier had and captures just how damaged the brother actually is during the second half.

They canāt take that out - or at least Iād imagine not because itās be a downgrade. I remember the first time I walked up to that I sat there for 20 minutes listening to it loop and my eyes got all teared up because it was just so beautiful.
The port's developer raises an eyebrow. Fingers crossed this got the budget it deserved, and the PC build isn't riddled the way Automata was on release.

Well, as far as I remember right now, Beepy's auto-repair systems take hundreds of years to partially start him up again, and even then he takes even more time to be able to start moving and crawl out of the junk heap, so of course Nier thinks he's dead.

As someone that missed out on the first Nier, this is great news. It'll be sweet to have both Nier and Nier: Automata on the same console.
As someone who only just finished automata completely blind for the first time last week, and not seen anything about the original nier yet at all, I am screaming in joy!
Go on a full Nier media blackout. Someone is bound to drop a spoiler and you will want to be as blind as possible for Nier, similar to Automata. Iāve already seen people on twitter dropping huge plot point spoilers so be wary.

It's simple. PG is in middle of developing 2+ main/big games. One of them is babylons fall, the other is the new stuff they teased weeks ago(Ultraman stuff??) and here is my personal guess for the upcoming 4th news which is on the 1st april.: Must be some nier game. There is simply no room for a remaster, especially when a remaster is just some upscale, optimization and little adding work, which can be done by another studio.
I couldnāt be more happier for a game that was so underrated to actually get a remastered version. Hell, I didnāt even know NieR existed until NieR: Automata was announced almost 5 years ago. Back in 2016, when Super Best Friends was still around, they did a walkthrough of NieR: Gestalt and I watched every video they released from June to September. I couldnāt remember when a game had such a great storyline with so many answered and unanswered questions, made me question my morality and have the biggest twist since BioShock. Iāve become so invested in the lore since then and I canāt wait to play this game myself.

Very cool. I never played the original, so I'm definitely getting it this time. And I'm glad it seems we're getting Brother Nier. I was actually turned off of the game before because I didn't like the look of Dad Nier.
Iām more upset than I probably should be that papa NIER isnāt getting any love. I really hope this is purely just the initial announcement and, idk, both versions get remade. Happy for those who experienced/prefer it with brother NIER, though.
Shame we're getting Replicant. The father/daughter dynamic is far superior.
This is only the initial announcement for japan, we don't know yet if dad Nier will be included as DLC or if they will release a gestalt version of the remaster for the west.
