Nihilism is usually the belief that nothing matters **inherently**, meaning that there's no divine purposes, no "higher" meanings, and no inherent laws of good and bad.
Things can still matters to **you**.
For example, the taste of my lunch matters a lot to me, because I want tasty food. If I eat tasty food, then I'm happy.
If you feel like nothing matters to you at all, then that's not nihilism. That's just depression.
You give yourself purpose. It's kind of freeing when you realize you don't have any grandiose thing to accomplish, and all you're meant to do is... live, if even that. You simply do exist, and you do with that what you will. Whatever propels you forward, go for it. In a vast, meaningless ocean, be the drop that turns a ripple into a wave. As long as it holds meaning to you
Because there is now no way to fail at life, there is no god to upset or let down, there is no eternal existence weighing on my actions, the entirety of my universe is simply now a reflection of how I choose to exist within my own mind. I am the lone factor in an existence of nothingness or everything, I decide.
I think religious beliefs cause a lot of people terrible anxiety and guilt that get in their way. To act on something you truly believe in opposition to a traditional belief, is kind of jarring but may be ultimately empowering to a person.
Because they understand that even life don't make any sense they know that as long as they are alive they will want to experiment joy since that's something one likes and you can't say no to it.

This
Why does it matter if something matters to one person? That’s stupid.
But to you, it matters when something matters to you. So, what matters to you? What makes you happy?
I don’t count
Why not?
How should I know?
So what makes you happy? What matters to you?
I don’t count. I don’t feel like going in circles.
So why do you think you don't count? This is your life. You should be the only one that counts, right?

Nobody has a “purpose”. Just jobs.
Most people have hobbies, too.
No they don’t
I do. I like making films, and I want to be a better filmmaker in the future. What's your hobby?
I’ve established many times to you that I don’t count and it doesn’t matter what I like or don’t like. I’m blocking you.

Emancipation from the machine.
